This episode we have Eric (Chaos), David (Windrunner), Grace (thegatorgirl), and Verónica (Cheyenne Sedai).
Please note we recorded this last June, so newer things like the interlude or the new Shallan chapters aren't mentioned here. But I hope if you read those, you get a kick out of some of our comments :)

Like his ideal of becoming the law might be wrong, but he like forced it through somehow or lost the true meaning of it. So like the true 5th for the stormbreaker could be realization of what law is meant to do for them. Lightweavers it’s knowing your true self so that through your lies you will not lose yourself. For Kaladin, the understanding that HE is worth saving might be a big thing. I think the 5th might be more specific to the individual, but categorically might be the self actualization.

  • @tallbeing
    @tallbeing 21 день назад +1

My sole theory of which I've convinced myself is that Dalinar's Champion is going to be Adolin (why spend so long with someone who is apparently the world's greatest duelist, then have the fate of the world rest on a duel which he isn't a part of?) and Odium's is going to be Nale. Nale's insanity seems to work in a similar way to how Odium takes Moash's emotions, and I can see the opposite effect happening if (T)Odium makes a deal with Nale to *give* him his emotions back in exchange for being his Champion. I think it also ties into Adolin's arc of being a heroic character in a world full of Radiants, and why the bond between humans and spren is so important---A person who has taken the time to get to know his spren, despite her being a deadeye, and ultimately healing her, against a Radiant that is of the highest ideal and a freaking HERALD of his own order, but has lost sight of the meaning of the bond in the first place. And I think that idea of asking *why* the Radiants even exist will be a central plot point for Adolin that ties into Ba-Ado-Mishram and the real reason for the Recreance.

    • @MDoorpsy
      @MDoorpsy 7 дней назад

Whoever his champion ends up being, one thing I'm betting on is that they will lose. Dalinar will be forced to become Odium's vanguard that he sends out to start conquering the cosmere. Stormfather will die as a result, but will use up the last of his power to create a new herald to replace Jezrien, who will be Kaladin, who will have lost his powers after Ishar manages to make Syl physical, nearly killing her if not for Kaladin swearing the fifth ideal, which allows her to fully manifest as a physical spren, but at the cost of her magical connection to Kaladin.
My reasoning is that things are going too well for the heroes, and new Odium needs a major win to cement himself as the new big bad for the second half of the series. Dalinar losing and being forced to become what Odium always wanted him to be would be the cruelest thing for Brandon to do in this moment. And since we already know the second half is supposed to focus more on the heralds, it makes sense to have our primary antagonist act as a through line for the series, becoming a herald, taking on their burden in order to truly understand them enough to help them with their mental health.

In regards to the 5th Ideal thing, I think that a lot of people forget who the patron of the Windrunners is. Jezrien, the Herald of Kings. He is lauded as being the prime example of what a leader should be. I think rather than the 5th Ideal focusing on protection specifically, perhaps the Windrunner 5th Ideal is about teaching others to protect themselves, or enabling them to stand strong, etc. Something along those lines makes a TON of sense. Another thing pointing to this is that Windrunners are the fastest to cultivate Squires. Leadership in some form HAS to be involved in the 5th ideal.

  • @MrDrewsopher
    @MrDrewsopher 15 дней назад

Let it be known: my prediction for Kay's 5th ideal is something along the lines of "I deserve to be protected" or "I will accept that sometimes I need to rely on others' protection"

I'll probably be updating this as I continue to listen, but
I like the idea of SOMETHING happening to Dalinar. Which would cause Adolin to become the new head of the Kholin Household, bookending the fact that in book 1 Dalinar was looking to "retire" and making Adolin the new head of the Kholin Household.
The loophole could be, what if no one wins the contest of champions? Maybe the Oathpact will be reformed midway through the Contest of Champions causing the agreement to not be fulfilled forcing Dalinar to leave Roshar? I don't know.
My Aluminum Foiled hat theory (that I've said before) is that Cultivation's Vessel is going to shatter herself. All based off of a Wyndle Quote along the lines of "She (cultivation) was never the same after he (Honor) died." I think Cultivation is her futuresight (or whatever it's called. And I think cultivation has the best futuresight) to setup her plan before shattering herself. Also, I think Cultivation is training Teravangian to use Odium's power wrong to get him out of the way. And the second half of the Stormlight Archive will be everyone trying to figure out what the plan is, while trying to defeat Odium. Am I wrong? Absolutely.

I'm somewhat confident that the 5th ideal for windrunners is to do no harm, not even to protect. Like a hypocratic oath for the windrunners. And yeah that's a huge "nerf" but the power Kal would get in return would be so strong that it would actually make protecting easier. The 4th ideal is the same, he swears that there's some he can't protect and he gets better at protecting

Ok sometimes yall get so deep in the Conspiracy Sauce i have to just Laugh. Following Sandersons narrative structure i think we can EASILY count out some characters.
CHARACTERS that DEFINATELY survive this novel:
All the back-half book 6-10 leads
Shallan - Her story might conclude, but she wont die someone has to be a Ghostblood type out there.
Navani - The Only non- Dalinar Bondsmith. Also if Stormlight stops working, She and Urithiru are the last source of Stormlight.
Venli - Shes too boring to kill.
Rock - He gets a Novella.
Cultivation - Probably the real antagonist in the back half.
CHARACTERS that Might not survive this Novel:
Adolin - His death would be very tragic, but hes the only non-radiant protagonist. Id vote on him surviving but he could make a sacrifice and Maya could persist.
Slyphrena - Her exit will likely be tied to Kaladins Fate, but i think its entirely possible the Daughter survives the next apocalypse again.
El - Another one off antagonist may be possible.
    Characters that HAVE to LEAVE/Ascend/Disappear:
Kaladin - Hes not going to be a lead in the Second half, in order for the story to have room for other protagonists he has to either become a Herald/God/Storm or Die.
Dalinar - My man has to ascend to Godhood/Herald, Literally taking up his brothers cause. Also "Unity" has room to be the major antagonist of the whole cosmere.
Szeth - He will swear his final oath, Either Save a King or kill a King, and complete his narrative journey. Hes too murdery to survive.
Nightblood - God Killing Sword? In a narrative about fueding with gods, it cannot persist. Also Szeth cant be trusted with this thing beyond this book.
Moash/Vyre - Even if he DOES get a redemption arc, my guy is donezo, has to answer for his crimes and failures
Toadium - Taravangian has been built up to the Foil of Dalinar for all of the First half of stormlight, Unless he Completely wins this book, He is gone. No way we repeat the same defeat Odium arc as the first half.
    Feel free to argue.

I want to see a full fledged war campaign where that innovation allows for the smaller Urithiru aligned force to out maneuver the larger force of Odium's Singers and Fused and actually create something resembling an even balance of power with both sides working to out maneuver each other.

Just gonna add my two cents here because I find the whole Syladin debate very entertaining: I would prefer for Kaladin to not get another love interest (I feel like at this point there isn't enough time to introduce yet another love interest or have Kaladin develop something romantic with a previously introduced character without it feeling unsatisfying or forced/rushed), but instead I want him and Syl to remain platonic and, if they both make it out alive, stay together as platonic life partners/soulmates. I can definitely see how Syladin could become a thing, especially in the context of Syl being pulled into the physical realm and Kaladin having to comfort her and help her through such an emotional and traumatic time, but again, I just don't think there's enough time to work towards something like that. Some seeds would have already needed to be planted throughout the previous books but so far we haven't been given a single hint that their relationship is developing towards something more than platonic. I don't think every main character needs a love interest anyway, and Kaladin is interesting enough of a character as he is. Kaladin and Syl obviously share something very special; they strongly depend on each other emotionally, care about each other a lot, and know each other on a very intimate level considering they are literal soulmates, and perhaps having such a profound bond with someone is enough for Kaladin.

    • @valentinasheludko7498
      @valentinasheludko7498 23 дня назад +1

I agree with you! I wouldn't mind if Syladin happened, but I honestly don't think Brandon would do them together. But I agree with your arguments. We have one book left from the first arc. If a new love interest appears, I sincerely don’t understand when it will be possible to create an adequate relationship. Kaladin has a mission and many problems. I don't think every main character needs a love interest anyway too. "Some seeds would have already needed to be planted throughout the previous books" - In a kind of defense of Syladin, I’ll just say that in RoW Kaladin and Syl have many common scenes, Syl develops and learns more like independent character, and most importantly, she does not raise the issue of relationships, does not try to set Kaladin up with a new girl (unlike Adolin). Lyn is an ex-girlfriend, that's all. And about other hints, if you read the first Wind and Truth (Kals pov) chapter, there are hints and seeds there that may hint at Syladin. But this is only one chapter, and later in the book everything may come to naught between them. We need more chapters to see if Brandon does anything with them or not.

@@valentinasheludko7498 Hi! I appreciate your reply :) I think you make some good points, something definitely shifted in Kaladin and Syl's relationship since Syl went through her own personal crisis in Rhythm of War. Like some sort of mutual understanding that wasn't there previously. It does seem like Syl is becoming her own person more, and not just Kaladin's spren who's kind of just there to support him and act as a tool for him to use. And yes, I have read the first Kaladin pov chapters of Wind and Truth and I did note that Kaladin takes notice of Syl a lot, like commenting on her appearance (her smile, her hair, her clothing etc.) and her behavior (how she doesn't really understand physical touch and that she might have offered a hug if she was a human, which kind of gave me the impression that that was something he desired from her, being able to hug her). Kaladin seems to be more aware of her presence and treats her like more of a person, by inquiring about her thoughts and feelings for example. I also think it's the first time that Syl is referred to as Kaladin's friend. I can see how these things could be viewed as hints for a potential romance, but just like you I also sincerely doubt that Brandon would pair these two together, so maybe that's partially why I'm having a hard time looking at their interactions as anything other than platonic. I guess we'll just have to wait and see ;)

My take for Kaladins 5th Ideal is that it will be easier to swear because it is something less about him, and more about being a Windrunner in general. And the reason he will find it easier is because he has heen working towards it for a while without knowing it.
And because of that, I believe that it will:
    1. Be involved in some manner in the resolution of Moashes story arc, I believe most likely by Kaladin preventing Moashes suicide and beggining his redemption arc. The two have been foils of each other for the entirety of the series, and I can't see a satisfying ending for either that does not involve the other.
    2. Involve Lirin and Nonviolence in some manner. People have criticised this before but I genuinely think that pacifism in some manner embodies "Protection" very well. I'm not entirely sure how these work together, but that's my gut feeling.
By involving these threads, Kaladin can both on a personal level get there quickly, and naratively it makes sense if the culmination of all of his story arcs solidifies around the 5th ideal. Thereby allowing him to die/take a less prominent role in the back half.

For the Windrunner 5th Ideal I think it will be something along the lines of protecting people with violence. It’s been a cornerstone of Kaladin’s internal struggles and it pairs nicely with the Skybreaker 5th Ideal, they determine what the law should be and the Windrunner determines who lives and who dies. Exactly how Brandon will word it I have no idea, but I would be surprised if it’s not something along those lines.

I think there's a real possibility that the contest of champions is the conclusion of part 1 and that it will be a philosophical contest instead of a physical one. Dalinar chooses himself because he isn't going to send someone else to fight his battle and Taravangian chooses Nale. The contest will then be a call back to their original debate on leadership and punishment and will be some protected exercise across all of the nations of Roshar to settle the debate for good. To win, Dalinar must truly "unite them".

I refuse to accept syladin. I do think Dalinar is top of the list to die. Kaladin, however, I’m not sure. I think his arc has been leading him towards a mentor role, but he’s also got the most to lose at this point. Also, there’s the line in book one about “everyone but him always dies”, and boy, if syl died tht would really drive that home. I do think he’s grown away from that though, and I doubt tht brandon would do that to him.
I’m pro chana davar at this point. And I think there’s a chance szeth winds up as one of the champions, since it’s his book, but idk which. I could see dalinar changing his mind, but it’s more likely that his relationship with taravangian gets exploited.

As we all know, the more complicated theories are, the more likely they are to be correct...

34:00 I accept that leading an army will mean losses among my people. - Not nice.
38:00 Protection is inherently contradictory. They are a fighting force. Hence they kill to protect. Eventually they'll have to find a way to decide whom to protect. The Skybreakers are much more open in dealing with that. They accept that the answer is arbitrary.
48:30 Weirdly? Dalinar is taking an army into battle. What possible reason could he have for taking a swordmaster with him? This does not need at explanation.
52:00 What makes you think that Jasnah would have any interest in fighting the Ghostbloods? Harmony is a close partner of Hoid. Jasnah is very political. She will not be receptive to the idea of getting into a quasi-war with Scadrial. She'll tell Shallan to make peace.
54:00 The Lost Radiants chose the Recreance rather than setting her free and you suppose that Shallan just gets her and releases her?
59:00 You are raising a question. Would BAM actually want to return to Roshar? It would imply reentering Travangian's service.
1:09:00 Dalinar would not exactly stay dead. Something needs to happen in SA#6 - SA#10. Fused Dalinar will be on a roaring rampage through the Cosmere. He's the reason the Ghostbloods are losing the connection to so many worlds.
1:13:00 The leadership among the Radiants would fall to Navani if Dalinar is taken out.
1:15:00 Dalinar has a second son.
1:15:30 About what? And when? For a battle you need to move an army. You have ten days. We need to make our collective minds up. Either the contest is a small part of the book, maybe it even does not happen, or it is most of the book.
1:24:00 One of the Unmade has changed sides and bonded Dalinar.
1:45:30 There has to be something left for the next 5 books.
2:06:00 If unity is at stake, the Stormfather will lie. As would a Bondsmith. Just as Dalinar did concerning the death of Torol Sadeas. Dalinar and the Stormfather are about promises, not truth.
2:13:00 Shadesmar is a war zone.
2:14:00 The oathgates are useless to the Ghostbloods, unless they come to an understanding with the Radiants.
2:15:30 The contract assumes that there's a winner. It does not specify what happens if both contestants die.

Syladin happens with plenty of babies for generations to come. Syladin become some "super Highspren" once Syladin normal lifespan ends and their adventure continues in the Cognitive.
Dalinar and Navani sacrifice themselves to forever seal TOdium on Roshar and freeing Braize. They have no regrets and pass into legends of Roshar.
Ashyn and Braize gets repopulated with humans on Ashyn and Parshendi on Braize.
Roshar becomes a DMZ where humans and Parshendi adventure into but at great risk.
Todium tempts and traps humans and Parshendi who venture onto Roshar into his great cosmere army. But not everyone gets captured and are difficult to hunt and enslave.
Fused are all consumed by Todium to replenish his own Voidlight after nearly succumbing to the last Champion conflict which Dalinar won but a phyrric victory giving Roshar to Todium.
Cultivation is finally forced into action but has to flee after Dalinar's victory and death. Cultivation "launches" Urithiru into Orbit of Roshar "killing" Navani and also generating a "field" that now traps Todium on Roshar. But fast "bullet" or "needle" ships can punch through the planetary blockade. Shadesmar is a mess around Roshar now.
Somehow StormFather and Roshar are melded and Storms are now constantly cycling around randomly all over Roshar ... StormFather is driven "mad" ? by Dalinar's death ?
Children of Syladin stabilize Rosharan weather locally due to their blood. Hence are heavily exploited by Todium to protect the vestiges of civilization on Roshar. Without Syladin's descendants Parshendi and humanity cannot survive Rosharan weather. Only Greatshells and axehounds and other wild native species will survive on Roshar now.
Todium cannot leave and has to issue "automatic" orders to his legions to venture forth into the Cosmere. Some of Todium's army have found loopholes due to Autonomy's meddling to break free from Todium "orders" and "control".
Shallan and Adolin part ways, Adolin becomes the God Emperor of Dead-Eyes with Maya as his Queen. Shallan gains her old Shardblade back and now Dual-Armors and Dual-Wields and also Dual-Bodies. Shallan and Radiant are now looking like twin-sisters and travel on adventures all over Shadesmar.

That plus the challenge between Honor's champion and Odium's champion, I feel like there is a significant suggestion that Warlight becomes a thing, inferring cooperation between the light of Odium and Honor.

It is interesting that the rewrite of the SotD sequel chapters changed violet tinted investiture to blue.

@@obviousalias132 was it the black blue of warlight or just changed from an inference of voidlight to stormlight?

What if BAM returns and has PTSD and is scared of her own shadow. Would that be major let down.

I still think Taravangian’s Champion is gonna be Gavilar resurrected as a Fused. He’s a good enough fighter to contend with the Blackthorn in a fight, he would definitely rattle Dalinar and throw him off his game, and he’d be willing to go along with Taravangian’s nonsense. No other character fits those criteria as far as I can tell. There is the question of how Gavilar would still be around, but I’m sure Sanderson could find some way to justify it.

i disagree, first because of the way death has been shown to work in the Cosmere, i think Gavilar's is permanent, and second, i don't think that Gavilar is anywhere near the warrior that Dalinar was/is and i think Gavilar himself has always known that and any kind of martial clash between the two would almost always result in Dalinar's victory, and third, there's still no indication that the contest of champions itself will be a martial one, and i think that's going to ultimately be a major factor in Dalinar's defeat (yes i also ascribe to the theory that Dalinar is going to lose this and become the Fused Blackthorn rampaging the Cosmere in service of TaravOdium even though that's the last thing i want to happen to him)
as for who Odium's champion will be, i can't really commit to any particular possibility, it could be El who we've only gotten a brief glimpse of making him all intriguing and mysterious as a candidate, after his blinding and the way the story has played out for him i don't really see Moash fitting well as a champion, the baby champion Gavinor has been advanced as a possibility but i find the arguments for that fanciful and lacking, Adolin and Shallan have also been posited but i kind of view those candidacies in the same light as Gavinor just not enough to be even mildly convincing to me with what we know, another suggestion has been Taravangian himself in his own guise pretending to have been saved by Odium but i'm not sure if he'd really be allowed to with Shardic Intent shenanigans, but the most interesting suggestion that i've actually seen honestly, is the Herald Ishar, given the nature of his insanity i think it would be very easy to manipulate him into the role and would make for an Unchained Bondsmith v Bondsmith matchup, which if this is the route Sando goes, makes me think that Kal and Szeth's attempts to help the Herald will either not be sufficient, or possibly directly contribute to him becoming Odium's champion
all that said, i'm absolutely salivating to get my hands on the book as soon as humanly possible and devour it whole

The only way Gavilar returns is as a Warbreaker Style, Animated statue of himself. Compelled using breaths. He is literally entombed the same way as Kalads Phantoms. So its the only viable possibility. We know there is no cognitive shadow of him because he wasnt invested enough on his death.

I wonder if the 5th ideal is always the ideal that tips the strengths of these oaths into their weakness/sin/antithesis. Perhaps that was what caused the Radiants to fall.
Just like all these shards of Adonalsium have push TOO far into their good strengths, maybe the Orders will do so as well.

Something David said made me think. Ishar is pulling Spren out of the cognitive realm. I don't think he's trying to short cut to 5th ideal. I think he's trying to make artificial basic radiants.
The Spren have to enter the physical realm, they just lose themselves for a time.
If he can pull them through and then use his honorblade to force a connection and nahel bond can he get radiants with powers that haven't sworn oaths?
