Oh the suspense! I was waiting for you to install Ubuntu studio on top of Lubuntu to see and acknowledge the end result. Oh well maybe some other time. GREAT VIDEO EITHER WAY!
Lol! That’ll be happening soon. The next video to drop is about configuring Lubuntu and is full of tips and tricks for Ubuntu and Lubuntu users. Cheers!
I am using Lubuntu for almost 3 years. No booting issues like I had with Ubuntu and no some other issues I had with Ubuntu. And a Hash rate while mining monero is 30+% compare to Ubuntu.
It works, follow instructions exactly i installed lubuntu on an old macbook 2010 pro, with no hard drive, used an old 30 gig flash drive, 8 gig swap. Will probably get a bigger flashdrive
Very nice and informative video. I'm wondering why you need a separate EFI/boot partition in addition to the Lubuntu partition. If I just wanted to dedicate the whole drive to the Lubuntu install, could I just select the "Erase Disk" Option? If I wanted save a partition for MacOS, could I pre-partition the drive in two, install Lubuntu in one by selecting "Replace Partition" and install MacOS in the other later? Thanks!
@mohsscale4220 Thanks for your comment and question. Dual booting with macOS is a great option and it just so happens I am working on some videos about that very topic. Stay tuned!
hello! Just discovered this video:great! just a queastion: is it necessary to create athe smaller partition for ubuntu and the last onbe for the media files? Can I just make the ubuntu partition? Thanks a lot!
@marcobesana5826 It isn't necessary. I just like to safeguard my files in case I want to change distros. If you select 'Erase Disk' at the Partition stage (ruclips.net/video/AD8-6JsfseA/видео.htmlsi=Cl6iwNIEiWrN_FH0&t=565), you can bypass the partitioning I do in the video. Cheers!
i'm running mint on the same macbook. It also ran on deepin 5 for a couple of years. only difficulty might be installing a legacy driver for the nvidia card in order to attach an external monitor.
Cool, Mint is great but I haven't tried Deepin. I don't usually bother with Nvidia drivers on audio laptops as I normally use AVL-MXE with a real-time kernel (or Liquorix) which isn't compatible with Nvidia drivers. But from what I've read, Ubuntu Studio's low latency kernel works with Nvidia drivers. I'm yet to fully test it out myself though.
@@StaempunkTV when i first tried to install linux on the machine in an attempt to extend its useful lifespan, i remember installing Zorin OS and Elementary OS. Both had screen glitches. i was a complete Linux noob at the time and Deepin worked out of the box. I'm sure many other distros might have worked as well. I think we've been running linux mint in the Mate flavour for the last couple of years. does the job.
I've had 3 of 4 different MacBooks and MacBook Pros and every time I install Linux, the system feels buggy, no Wi-Fi, no graphics. Feels like a waste of time.
@FiSH Pale Ryder I hear you. I've found success with antiX where everything works but it takes some time to set up, MX Linux works out of the box as does Ubuntu Studio. I haven't tried many other distros to offer an opinion on them. In part 2 of this series I show how to get the MacBook's broadcom WiFi working and also the backlit keyboard among other things. Lubuntu is great on my MacBook, super fast and stable. Hope you find a great Linux distro for your Macs!
@@StaempunkTV Thanks for your help. I did some research and came across this terminal command that fixed my issue instantly and started seeing the WIFI SSID without the need for a restart: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source
is there clicking as a background sound in this video? sounds like my harddrive is about to die and is driving me fucking nuts..... trying to put lubuntu on an old macbook and this video is unwatchable...
Looking forward to Part 2

Bonjour ( Hello from France), Thank you for this video :)
This was so helpful - thank you so much!

@protienslv Lubuntu is a winner for sure!

Interesting. Will you show us how you work on Ubuntu studio's recording software? Thanks as always.
Absolutely, that video’s coming out soon. Cheers!

Cool, I tried Ubuntu MATE on the MacBook but it was too resource heavy hence I went with Lubuntu which flies on it.
how come you didnt throw MX on it . thought it would be faster
I was going to install AVL-MXE on it but have found Lubuntu amazing performance-wise.
lxqt is great for older machines

@inerlogic Yeah sorry about that. It's the background music you're hearing. I don't put background music in my videos anymore.
