      Hi, this one is specifically for Ollie. When you built your Cannondale hill climb bike you put in C Bear bearings. After you mentioned that you'd had problems with creaky bottom brackets. Was this from the C Bear BB or the original Cannondale/SRAM BB30 model? Thanks

    Decal removal tip: Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the decals before and while removing them. More glue will stay on the decals.

  • @sklem3765

    A hair dryer will soften up a lot of decal glue so that it peels off. Use the acetone to finish the job.

    • @sebberg3362
      @sebberg3362 4 года назад +2

      yup, that was what I was about to say. It all depends on the sticker glue and paint composition, but the heat-gun (or a hair dryer) has worked well for me. over use of solvents may weaken your gel coat. I always rinse after using them.

      The heat gun produces enough heat to strip paint or damage rubber compounds. So be very careful.

    Your 10 speed Campy cassette should fit any modern Campy freehub body. I recently upgraded my 10 speed Campy Daytona groupset to Chorus 12 speed and the cassette was a straight swap. The freehub is the same for 9, 10, 11, and 12 speed Campy cassettes.

    I’ve been a sign writer for longer than I care to remember, in fact longer than I can remember (I think 30 years 🤔)...the hair drier suggestion for warming the decals is a great one...I personally use a wallpaper steamer to remove vinyl livery, but a hair drier for small decals is perfect...to remove the adhesive Autosmart have a product called Tardis which is a glue and tar remover...hope this helps.

    Regarding the decal removal: WD-40, Si’s weapon of choice, or similar, bike-specific products like MO-94 work wonders. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and the oil will solve the oil-based glue of the decals. Just make sure to thoroughly clean your wheel afterwards, especially if you use rim brakes. Isopropyl alcohol works for that and removes all oil and residue

    The easiest way to remove the stickers from the ALUMINUM WHEEL ONLY is using a flat wooden toothpick and a hair dryer. The sticker glue is chemical and water resistant, but not heat resistant. This job is ZEN training, but it's worth it. Use a dryer on a low temperature to heat the first 3-5 cm / 1-2 inch of the stickers and gently pry an even fragment with a toothpick, it must be the entire beginning, even. Then we blow warm air from a distance of about 10cm / 3in and slowly pull the sticker upwards at a 90 degree. It can't be too warm, it can't be too fast. If there is glue on the rim, it is too hot and you need to move the dryer slightly away. If there is too much glue, it means that the sticker is torn off too quickly. The remnants of the glue can be removed with acetone or a liquid to remove the sticker from car windows - the shit that in some countries have to stick to the windshield of the car :) IMPORTANT: Be careful of overheating, the rim must not burn your hands, it should be pleasantly warm. !!! DO NOT USE THIS METHOD WITH CARBON RIMS !!! The tire will last a lot, but I recommend taking it off while cleaning. Cheers!

      I used hairdryer but acetone struggled to remove glue residue.... Enter WD40!! There is literally nothing it can't do. Sprayed WD40 on glue residue, left for about a minute then wiped off. Might need to spray stubborn areas a couple of times but it works for sure 😁

    To remove stickers and any remaining residue. Remove wheels from bicycle and let the summer sun heat each side of the wheels for a bit then peel away stickers. Any remaining residue can be removed with a clean soft rag and lighter fluid. This doesn't harm paint, plastic, or rubber. Doesn't work in the U.K....no sun.

      Yes. Campagnolo are much nicer than Shimano as they don't deliberately make all of your old kit obsolete as often. However, this raises the point that you can run a 11-speed set up on your existing wheels if you still like them, so you can save money on that?

    So this was my experience with removing the horrific lurid decals from my Mavic Cosmic Wheels:
    1. Hairdryer is perfect BUT when you peel off the decal pull firmly and fast. The first wheel I was over-cautious and all the glue stayed on the rim. Second wheel with the recommended approach I had zero glue remaining.
    2. To remove glue left on the rim I tried the method In the comments using acetone. This was a complete pain consuming a lot of time and acetone.
    3. As a better way to remove glue from the rim I just used my thumb to rub the glue off. This might not suit everyone I guess depending on the strength of your thumb and how tough your skin is but for me it was much more effective and time efficient than using acetone.
    4. As a final touch I used some automotive black bumper treatment to bring back the colour as the wheels are a couple of years old.
    I am super happy with the result which has improved and updated the look of my 2016 Cervelo R5 no end.
    Good luck 👍

    1:57 the best numbers I've seen for derailleur gears is 98% efficiency, the best I've seen for internal gears were in the 80% range.
    Every other shortcoming could easily be sorted like putting the gears in the bottom bracket rather than the hub which would make wheel changes easier and quicker if anything.

    @6:47 Some retaining rings are, in effect, hollow allen bolts (mine is, at least). If this applies to you, there’s often a 10mm allen retaining ’bolt’ and an 8mm allen extractor bolt underneath it. Sizes may vary but the idea remains the same: keep the 10mm ’bolt’ fully threaded in, pass the 8mm allen key through the 10mm hole and undo the 8mm allen bolt. As the 8mm bolt unwinds, it is ’stopped’ by the 10mm allen retaining bolt/ring and further unwinding pushes the crank out.

    Do Di2 batteries require a break-in period? When I first started using my new Ultegra Di2 equipped Ribble, it seemed like I would use about 20% of the battery on every 30 or so mile ride, based on the display on my Garmin head unit. After a few months of riding however, the battery has stayed at fully charged for the last 4 rides. I was wondering if this is a matter of conditioning the battery, or is it just a quirk?

    Great show, always enjoy watching and learning form it.
    I find myself a 2004 pinarello marvel frame, it has a semi-vertical dropout and adjustment screw.
    Would it be possible to run it in single speed without using the chain tensioner?
    Cheers

      I think they suggested making sure the chain length was correct and even using "half-links in last week's show.

    • @lextm119
      @lextm119 4 года назад

      @@chuckmccracken4136 nice, I've already plan on using the half-link chain, but the length of the drop out where the axle sits isn't long(around 20mm), and its pointing in 45° rather than horizontal, that's where I concern the most.
      Thanks for answering 👍🏻

    Heat gun and a chopstick is what I used to remove wheel decals. Then rubbing alcohol.

    2:00 that's actually not true 100%. The Rohloff 18 speed hub has less rolling resistance than the best groupsets out there in certain gears. Look it up, it's true. CYCLINGABOUT made a video on the 2020 Kona Worldtraveller-S.

    • @janusz0
      @janusz0 4 года назад

      It’s Pinion that makes the massive 18 speed bottom bracket gearbox, Rohloff make the most efficient hub gear.
      As a cycletourist, I’m very happy with a Rohloff. If you used it for cyclocross or CC mtbing, it would be fine when there’s gravel in wet clay, but you’d want derailleurs for cleaner surfaces. Would you want to turn up for races with two bike and wheel systems, or keep to one type?

      @@janusz0 I forgot it's 14, not 18-speed. Still that's more than enough gears for me

    • @CyberdyneSystemsSkynet
      @CyberdyneSystemsSkynet 4 года назад

      don't even need to ask them, yes. Almost all good bikes are made in Taiwan, pinkbike has lots of articles on it. There is a pic somewhere of Scott and Trek frames being boxed up for shipping in a Giant factory. Lower end stuff even shares molds and carbon stock for some parts (think Addict/Defy/Emonda). I think they also determined Giant was making the lower end Colnago stuff too.
