I recommend against putting the shoes in the dryer. The prolonged heat from the dryer can break down the adhesive that holds the rubber parts onto the canvas.
One thing I’ve learnt about dye is hand wash it first with soap and water to avoid dying your washer, let it completely air dry, repeat until you don’t get dye runoff and then wash it in the washer on cold but air dry. The cold keeps the dye from bleeding but using a dryer can ruin the shoes
THANK YOU! I died my Vans without looking it up before hand and ruined them cause the rubber definitely turned green too. I has. A pair of converse I’m gonna dye next so thanks for this!!
When the shoe turned into a dark green color which is cool by the way the shoe kind of looks like that comme des garçons converse shoe but without the heart on it
I tried this method on some white converse after doing the Vaseline and dying the shoes I could see the Vaseline bubble floating to the top. I was worried but I thought they would still be okay but after the hour I took them out and the soles were tinted pink. I’ve spent a bit of time with nail polish remover and it has lighten them a bit but it’s still pretty noticeable I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue with the Vaseline..? And if so how can I make them go back to white?
Stitching thread is made of a different material from canvas that doesn’t take the colour as well. Certain synthetic fabrics/threads will not take as much colour on as a more cotton based option
Well put together video but I think this guy capping for views. No way the Vaseline would prevent the sole from getting dyed. I tried exactly what he did. Soles got dyed. Should have followed but the Rit website suggested. Which is vinyl tape or electrical tape.
Van you use the RIT dye on canvas sneakers that are already a colour ? I bought a pair of Superga (new unused) on eBay that looked a nice orange colour but turned up they were cantaloupe melon orange. I want to dye them a darker orange.
I dyed my converse cream and I used Vaseline on the rubber part but it’s still turned them green. There is no white whatsoever lol I tried using rubbing alcohol but that doesn’t work.
I also used Vaseline on my soles. Although it did keep almost all or the soles from absorbing the dye there are still some spots where it somehow got through.
@@Craftletics the stitching is almost always polyester, and the RIT dye used wont bond to synthetics, only the cotton canvas. (there are dyes for synthetics).

I have some light nude green converse that I want to dye teal. Do I try to strip the color from them? I’m not really sure what I should do, any help is appreciated!!
Don't listen to this guy. I legit tried this method and ruined my Converse 'all star' , the Vaseline method is a big scam, it just doesn't work. I applied two coats of Vaseline but still the midsole got dyed. Instead use an electric insulation tape . One observation from my experience is the heat of the water would ruin your shoes rubber midsole & the glue that sticks it to the canvas fabric . Just don't trust these RUclipsrs with such stuff. You never know if they could be showing you an entirely different shoe because they have the freedom of editing the video and it's not live. Trust not this method!
Aww man I'm sorry you had a negative experience using the vaseline method. I've tried it twice and it worked both times for me .Im glad electric tape worked for you thanks for sharing your experience.😄

what about using a hairdryer on just the canvas ?

You can clean the soles with pure acetone too. Thanks for this tutorial.
Wow! Great job keeping the dye off the soles and end product mint nice work.

Damn the execution was PERFECT
I took your advice and threw them in the dryer, they dried faster but niw I need a new dryer
Thx I’ve been watching due videos for a while now, but this video gave me the confidence to do it

hi, out of curiosity how has the dyed rubber held up ?
Thorough my Guyy! 👍🏽👍🏽
The Vaseline did not keep the dye off the soles for me. Nothing will get the dye off now. I’ve tried everything.
How did you keep the stitching on the shoes white?
I want to dye my Converse soles, not the canvas. Anyone know what kind of dye for that?
How do the stitchings not change color
Stitching thread is made of a different material from canvas that doesn’t take the colour as well. Certain synthetic fabrics/threads will not take as much colour on as a more cotton based option
Yea them Saucey gotta hit the button and subscribe
Anybody have any ideas on how to set the dye in without the Rit fix it?
so could you dry the converse with a hairdryer instead of the clothes dryer ?
Trying on some docs. Big ups on the stankonia mashup tee.
3 stacks is the GOAT🙌🏻
These were dope!
Love the video wanna try this one question, did the extremely hot water not melt some of the vasaline on the canvas?
Hello , nope didn't melt at all
The petroleum jelly didn’t work. The rubber of my shoes are dyed.
Great video. For a Ralph Lauren fabric footwear, how do you prevent the polo logo from the dye?
THANK YOU ❤
Baby! 🥰
I've been wanting to dye my Converse black, but I kinda want the stitching(like on the sides and stuff) to stay white. Is there a way to do that?
Hi I accidentally dyed bits of the rubber part of the shoes. Is there anything I can do to take off the dye and turn them white again?
Try acetone or a mr.clean magic eraser
Amazing. Petroleum jelly actually stops it from dye getting on the shoe? Does it work on fabric too, or just rubber? Can you dye leather shoes?
The vaseline don't work for me, the white parts are brown now, what you recommend to turn it white again.
You can try Kiwi Shoe Whitiner.
try a magic eraser :)
For me I painted my soles with rubber paint (white)
@@daynes13 have you tried a magic eraser on shoe sole rubber before? Does it work?
Same problem here. The Vaseline didn't protect the soles at all.
How are the stitches white even after dying it?
Because the thread used for the stitches is polyester and that specific rit dye doesn’t dye polyester
I THINK ITS WAX LIKE..
I liked the pun

I want to dye them a darker orange.
Yeah!
how come the stitches still white?
they’re probably polyester and fit doesn’t dye polyester
nice work, the bag of rocks idea to weigh down the shoes was smart. The RIT site says to mix salt in with the dye.. Did you use salt?
Thanks so much and nope didn't use any salt

Hair peroxide will remove it
@@perrysaker1526 hair peroxide? like developer?
What about the inside beds? Does the Rit fix it help keep the color from bleeding onto your socks, etc, as well?
Yes it does
depends on how acidic ur foot sweat is. (Man that sounds so weird xD)
whats the dye fixative for???
It’s to make sure the dye doesn’t go away and stays the same color for a long time
They clean but I would only do this for a color you can’t buy. The lube was a nice trick
Black to cream, is it possible?
That could work with alittle bleach and dye but the only issue is we don't want the bleach to start eating at the soles
If I want the robber sole also dye to the same colour, should I just leave out Vaseline? will the whole shoe have same even colour after dye?
Yes. It's a different material so it will dye a different hue and may or may not fade.
How did the dye not touch the threading???
I think the threading is made from a material that can't be dyed for some reason.
@@Craftletics the stitching is almost always polyester, and the RIT dye used wont bond to synthetics, only the cotton canvas. (there are dyes for synthetics).
@@quebraregra yeah exactly
Rite dye cannot dye polyester. The thread is made of polyester.
Can I ask what’s the name of the tiny press you used?

I have some light nude green converse that I want to dye teal. Do I try to strip the color from them? I’m not really sure what I should do, any help is appreciated!!
depends on what color. if it's something close in hue it may be fine
Why did the stitches maintain its color?
The stitching is probably polyester, which is harder to dye. This type of dye will not dye polyester!
Ok but how is the stitching still white? lol
different material, rit makes two different dyes for natural and for synthetic materials
I don't think that explains it. Mine turned blue. A lighter blue than the canvas, but still...not white.
How did you remove the converse logo to be able to put your own on?
I think he used a non name brand canvas shoe.
Now how to turn them white again so you can change the color again, jk
What about us poor people who have no pot?
welp i forgot to buy this 9:30
