    I added a cheap old set of Fox 40's from around 2010 to my bike, replacing the Killah MTB forks it came with. HUGE difference even on 2010 forks.
    Just make sure the steering tube is no shorter that 17.5cm, then you can use a direct mount stem. Needs to be longer for normal stem.
    You can also buy a new full length steerer tube, cheap from China and press it in easily if you have access to a press or know someone with a car workshop.
    I hope this helps you :)

      How were you able to find a used fork with a steerer tube that long? I've been looking and cant find anything longer than 6 inches

    Nice job with the information you put together, a few points we have learned you might want to consider.
    1) the lower bearing on SurRon is a motorcycle roller bearing and much stronger than MTB headset bearings and not recommend to replace. The upper can be replaced with a cane creek to reduce head tube length which is needed for many forks.
    2) lower bearing comes off pretty easy on most forks especially DNM
    3) inverted forks have the advantage of less unsprung weight and all MX bikes use them, the also tend to have less flex
    4) larger diameter Stanchion tubes does not necessarily equal more strength it’s the overall engineering that determines it.
    5) fox and marzocchi unfortunately do not support the SurRon market and will void your warranty if they know it was installed on SurRon.
    6) 21” front needs an 18” rear to match the traction which is an expensive combo and every person I’ve ever seen do that immediately wants power upgrades to hide the huge weight gain of 18/21 so be prepared to spend $1000’s going down that road. For a wallet friendly upgrade with better performance the 16/19 is a better option if you are staying on stock power.
    Nice green bike in the thumbnail image looks familiar :)

      Thank you for the tips! Some of these will certainly be going into my fork swap video. Seems like you know your way around the Sur Ron. Can you get away with smaller stanchions on an inverted fork without sacrificing strength?

    Depends hugely on how you ride if you need to replace the forks with something else. I dont do jumps and ride in the forest. I weigh about 200 pounds and have never bottomed out the DNM forks.
    Ofcourse the comfort will be improved with more expensive forks but for me there is no need.

    • @toxicosam
      @toxicosam Год назад

      the DNM that came with the sur ron back in 2020 was pretty good. its a DNM USD-8S and i think they upgraded them for the sur ron because ive seen a aftermarket DNM usd-8s and they are not working AT ALL like the one i have on my sur ron. they probably upgraded the coil or something to fit the weight of the sur ron.

    I'm building a Talaria MX4 SM with 17"X2.50 custom wheels. Not that I need a new fork but what would be a good choice for street riding? Perhaps the Fox 40? I think SuRonster uses a Marzocchi Bomber.

    Are the bomber 58's longer or shorter than the stock forks? If so will it cause any handling issues like with casting changes to the steering. It looks like it's 6" shorter?

    • @mbzoomer3799
      @mbzoomer3799  2 года назад +1

      From what little I can find on the spec sheets, it looks like the bomber 58 is about 1cm longer. Only way to really know is to measure them which I will do in a future video when I receive my fork. I intend to get a larger front wheel and possibly a progressive rear suspension link if needed

    Any chance you could give a detailed list of all part(s)/part numbers for needed to do this fork upgrade? Thanks!

    • @mbzoomer3799
      @mbzoomer3799  2 года назад +1

      I don't have part numbers for anything since a lot was locally sourced, but here's what you need:
      *Fox 40 fork (27.5in model) or other compatible fork
      *Headset spacers, 1 and 1/4 inch
      *Fork grease
      It's a pretty straightforward job. You just take the old fork off and you can reuse some of the spacers and steerer tube cap. The new fork should come with everything you need.
      If you purchase a used fork, then you will probably need a new triple crown and steerer tube. Check out this video for how to do that: ruclips.net/video/YslROHKUtTA/видео.html it's also got links to the triple crown assembly I used in the description.
