Hi man, I was wondering can I just buy a crown race to fit my Fox 40’s? I’ve ordered the 29 inch 2022 version. So instead of having to take the crown race washer off my old forks, I could just buy a new one so I only need to install the new one on my Fox forks? If so, do you know what size crown race I would need exactly? I appreciate the help in advance
Hey bud... Awesome Video..!! I'm installing a set of Fox 40's on my 2021 Surron this weekend. I want to purchase the cane creek set, but I cant find them in stock anywhere for the surron. What other brands do you recommend...? Thank you in advance, keep up the great posts...!
Hello bud, thank you for this very helpful video. Can you please educate me as to why it must have a MTB style / Cane Creek headset, and not the tapered bearings that come as standard on the surron ? Having spoken with a couple people locally and reading on forums online, some people suggest just sticking with the original tapered bearings when doing the Fox40 upgrade. I am in the middle of this upgrade right now and the tapered bearings seem to tighten up and operate as they should. So just wondered if it absolutely essential to swap these bearings and why that would be. Thanks !
You can stick with the tapered bearing if you have the drop upper clamp. If you have 27.5 fork with flat upper clamp, you have to at least change the upper bearing to reduce headtube length as the fox 40 stanchions are not long enough for that stack height. And no you can't just slide the fork legs up like a moto. They need to stay in the exact place they came. Watch my Marzocchi install video and I may explain it better there.
you stated that you need to change the headset to a mountain bike style headset. do you have any recommendations for a headset that will work with the fox 40s?
Hi, great video. I just went to fit my Suron front wheel but there is a 1.2mm gap between the hub spacer and the Fox40 fork leg. So 0.6mm each side of hub. Brand new bike brand new forks. Did you have the same issue?
What type of triple clamp bearings were those? I noticed you didn’t use a drop clamp ? Did you have 8 inches of travel from the dust cover on the fork seals to the bottom of the bottom triple clamp ?
Yes had 205mm of stanchion between clamp and seal. We have a cane creek zero stack headset in this one, which is shorter stack height compared to the stock tapered style moto headset. 2021+ 29” fork doesn’t need drop clamp with either headset. The 27.5 will need drop clamp with the stock headset.
For us newbies can we get an exact parts list I'm receiving my sur Ron tomorrow and my shocks should be here mid next week But I can't find by looking it up all the parts I'll need
You basically just need the fork(27.5 fox 40). Then the best thing would be to get an upper drop clamp so you don't have to run the mtb style headset. In this situation we had flat clamp so we ran mtb style headset.

Both can work. But the 29" fork is better option in my opinion. If going 27.5 then you have lack of tire clearance if you wanted to go bigger and you would have to change the headset to a bicycle style headset to reduce the stack.
I have the same problem during the rotor installation at my new Fox Factory. Wish I fixed it soon but don't know where I can buy this stuff like 5mm Spacer Set. Could you please send an Link from this SPACER ? Big Thx in advance ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Apparently everyone is complaining about the stock roller bearing setup. I'm sure there are better quality ones that will work just fine, but we are a bike shop so that's what's available and seems to be what people are using.
Definitely cut that tube too short. Wouldn't be surprised if you bottom out now the bottom triple tree is going to contact the duat covers. You have reduced the travel by raising the stantions in the clamps.
No there is no problem the stanchions, they are as low as they can go. Cutting the steerer tube has nothing to do with that. That's why we run the mtb style upper cup. The ideal thing would be to run a drop clamp on the top. In this situation there was about 207mm of stanchion showing from top of seal to lower clamp. These forks are only 203mm travel.
Awesome videos. Giving me some ideas for upgrades to my surron in the future.
Thanks for setting me up with fox 40...
..Cleveland LBX
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for your efforts.
Nice job! Whats the spec on the new fox? 27.5 or 29? Is it with the boost? Offset?
Awesome video, Can you tell me which cane creek headset to use?
sexy fox !! nice ride!!! keep it up bro!!
How much better is this fork compared to the old one?

Very informational video, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Reach out if you have any questions!
Can you use a stem lock instead of a star nut? I like the way you work man.
Yes, Warp9 sells one.
Can you give me the link to the exact headset I need from cane creek

Definitely. My sons mate trashed his bottom bearing in a crash. Its not rated to ride hard.

You can now use a drop crown instead made by Risse Racing.

Did you have the same issue?
No issue on any of the ones I have done. But 1.2mm shouldn't be enough to cause a problem
what you due with the factory fork from the sur run 😊
This was a customers. Idk what they did with the stock fork.
Good Stuff!! How much was the complete install? Main differences in performance? Thanks
Unfortunitaly we don't have the answer to either question as it was a customers and we just did the install. The fork's MSRP is like $1,800.
Shouldn't be much differents since the ones that where took off where fox 40s

@@thepedaltech will it need a drop clamp with the cane creek headset on the 27.5”
@@EnableSUBSCRIBE No it will barely have enough room. If you want a taller front end, I would get the drop clamp.
Where did you get the rotor spacer from?
Look up problem solvers boost adapter. It’s a mtb bike part
The Fox fork is for 27.5 tyre?
Me to I want to know
Sarebbe utile sapere come calza da 27.5 e 29

@@thepedaltech thank you for the reply! 1 more thing can I cut it to make it close to the 27.5?
Not sure what your asking. You can cut the steerer tube if that is what you are talking about, but it will be the same on the 27.5 and 29.
That is definitely new headset music.
I use hand tools on everything to avoid stripping threads.
Wich spacer set was that?
The rotor spacer was from a Problem Solvers boost conversion kit.

Used this one Works great
Hey will this forks fit with 3.75” flow wheels ???
Honestly not sure. We haven't had a customer that has tried it yet.
What psi do you run on the forks?
Not sure what they are running for PSI. It was a customers. I'm sure its up there tho being that they aren't light weight.
I run 90 to 100 psi 210lbs rider.
Why would you not use proper roller taper bearings and fit cheap ass bicycle roller bearings ?
Apparently everyone is complaining about the stock roller bearing setup. I'm sure there are better quality ones that will work just fine, but we are a bike shop so that's what's available and seems to be what people are using.
@@thepedaltech there's nothing atal wrong with taper bearings if there set right but ha ho each to there own
Exactly , the taper roller bearings are better than anything the bicycle market has ever came up with
is that the bike from Zay Solis
Yeah

fox 40 to fox 40 ..... why? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Old ones were blown out. and he did trade work for the new ones. maybe he wanted orange also. who knows.
Ditch that bottom bearing. Its junk. My sons mate 1 stack and the bearing shredded. Tapererd for the win
what size forks are they 27.5 or the 29s Fox 40s
These ones are 27.5". You could put 29" and it would just push the front end up higher. Throw the original geometry off a bit.
