    Two "cousins" fighting each other: to think that the Rafale could have been the Eurofighter itself, if France kept their commitment with the other major EU countries involved at the time in the project: running by memory, the "Rafale" precursor idea was one of the possible candidate to the Eurofighter place, but France wanted it - as the actual, indipendently produced Rafale - also able to operate as a carrier plane, a feature not so primary to the other EU countries (mainly, Italy, Germany and Spain, as none of them needed a navalized version)...
    ... so France pulled off the continental project and pursued their internal development, also to be able to have an "in house" fighter to be independent to external factors.
    Kinda risky economically, but (as an airplane enthusiast as me) a great way to see two very nice ones instead of only one 😋

    • @Foxtrop13
      @Foxtrop13 27 дней назад +36

      Dassault had been making deltas for half a century at that time, the EU kept f*cking the eurofighter up so they went and make their own plane

    • @CapitanoAraym
      @CapitanoAraym 27 дней назад +13

      @@Foxtrop13 🙂 Definitely Dassault has an awesome heritage of deltas... and even if the collaboration didn't actually work, I'm pretty sure that some of the french ideas still survived in the final Eurofighter.
      I think that none of the two is "messed up", in the end: the main difference I think is just about the production of the actual plane itself.
      For the Eurofighter, each main partecipant country produce only "a set" of parts, and then they are assembed together, as a shared result... France, I think, was against this production organization, and wantend to have a whole production line (mostly, probably, to keep the whole Dassault fully functional, and not as only a contractor of some systems)

    • @electric_boogaloo496
      @electric_boogaloo496 27 дней назад +9

      The French also have been very entrepreneurial in selling weapons and tech to neutral and non-ally nations. Heck, they were selling nuclear reactors to Saddam that Iran and Israel teamed up to airstrike.
      They would want their ability to produce their aircraft less restricted by other countries' approval of France's customers.

    • @zrav1522
      @zrav1522 26 дней назад +3

      That's a sanitized version of events. Apart from the diverging requirements, France "left" the coalition because it wanted to be firmly in the driver seat of the project, not share know-how, get most of the industry workshare, but have the other nations pay the bill. France pursues the so called strategic autonomy and is very protective of its industries. This makes defence collaborations difficult, which can be seen, again, in currently faltering projects.

    • @CapitanoAraym
      @CapitanoAraym 26 дней назад +3

      ... I just do not like start "internet dramas", respecting the "positive aura" that I feel when watching GS videos, so I probably searched the "best" paraphrasals I could find. ☺

      @@G-2Ub the F-22 could take out almost anything in the sky not just because it’s stealthy. It’s because you are an experienced and the top best pilot can fly the 5th gen fighters. But it also depends on how agile, fast and strength. Like F/A-18 super Hornet is a good jet to take out Sukoi Flankers but the SU-30SM Is made to K*ll the Super Hornet especially in a dogfight. The best way against a SU-30SM is an F-22. But it could also be both the jet and the pilot so he does kinda have a point. But In my opinion, depending on the jet like example JF-17 vs F-16 it’s definitely the pilot

    The delta planform on both aircraft means that the undersides of the outboard wing sections aren't in the way of the wingtip vortices from the inboard wing sections, which then curl back around inject energy into the airflow on topsides of the outboard sections. This delays the stall to much higher AoA, which means they can take out a ton of lift, but, not having the wingtip vortices blocked leads to a ton of induced drag at high AoA.
    This contributes to the tight one-circles down to the deck we see here, and but also leaves the aircraft with a severe energy deficit when they hit the deck. In a 2-circle fight, both aircraft are good at generating overshoot because they can slow down so quickly, but, for the same reason, both are good at preventing overshoot. However, whoever loses the overshoot fight ends up carrying a lot of AoA (with the corresponding drag) to stay airborne, and can't do much to prevent the other party from shooting away into another 2-circle.

      Rafale should have gotten a wide turn and accumulate energy to kill the EF now a floating feather. The rafale misread the energy differential and should not have tried to stay close

    Both beautiful aircraft, love how the Rafale has faster rounds coming out. That's what can kill you. Like I've said in the past, it's the only thing I don't like about the Euro fighter. It's slow rate of fire. Awesome video and both excellent looking and performing aircraft. Loved it.

    I can't help but wonder -
    In that 2nd fight, around the 8-minute mark, if you were a navy airman, or an air force pilot, or what have you, I expect that you'd have done the exact same thing in a simulator, as you did here. However, if you were in a dogfight against a real enemy, I wonder, would you have tried to see if you could pitch down, in lieu of pitching up? I mean, if you can't pitch up anymore, just roll the aircraft 180 degrees and pitch down, instead.
    That might be the kind of desperate thing a pilot might do in a dogfight, rather than ejecting (possibly over hostile terrain).
    Anyway, I would LOVE to have seen how that fight might have gone, if you persisted after losing the ability to pitch up (by pitching down and then rolling, or rolling and then pitching down, whenever you needed to 'pitch up,' as it were)...

      That would be nice. Personally i would like to see a Mirage III, would love the Mirage IIIS but that's a special version from Switzerland. Got almost all electronics ripped out and replaced with american Tech.

      @MrArmybiker how about the Israeli Kfirs or the Nesher both old school aircraft built by Dassault Mirage for modern French aircraft the Raffle and the Mirage 2000

    • @MrArmybiker
      @MrArmybiker 4 дня назад +1

      @@tarocasinday8850 Sadly i don't know very much about these but they look like they would fit the requirements quite well.
      The Mirage IIIS i would love to see because i'm Swiss and the switch from french to american electronics back then was a massive scandal. But the plane according to the Airforce reports performed amazing (as it finally was finished). They also where the first to fit these (don't know how they are called in english) small wings in front of the main Wing wich did quite some improvement. So, from that perspective it would be perfect to see a Mirage III and the IIIS, so i could compare them. But that's a personal interest and not possible to make since IIIS surely isn't in this Sim.
      Switzerland does have to make some changes to everything. As we bought the F/A18C.... the first thing we did was replacing the engines because we wanted more power.
      And that brings me to Country specific changes in general. How much does something like that matter?
      And honestly, now after i saw the Kfirs and Nesher.... i wanna see them too 😂 But, the Nesher, probably would fit better i think. It looks quite Simmilar to an Mirage IIIRS but thats not a fighter (doesn't even have radar if i remember correctly). So many beautifull planes still to see...
