I had a 1994 F150. It was a F150 4x4 Ext Cab 302 5 spd. Bought it new & when I sold it, it had 780,000 miles was the best pickup I have ever owned. Mine had both cats deleted, cold air intake, & new muffler. Mileage went from 15mpg to 22 mpg. I ran it on full synthetic oil, synthetic diff fluid front & back, synthetic trans fluid. Even synthetic fluid in the transfer case. I live in Northern Alberta where in the winter can get down to -40. I finally got rid of the truck after 13 years. The body was getting like Swiss cheese. Man, I miss that old truck.

    • @_Frank_the_Tank
      @_Frank_the_Tank 3 года назад

The front tank wasn't an option on reg cab/short bed 4x4s, simply because there isn't any room for it. The transfer case and front drive shaft take up about 2/3s of the space, would of ended up with a extremely small tank if they tried to wedge one in there. You could get the dual tanks on a 2wd reg cab/short bed, but again because of space the front tank is smaller/shorter then it is on a long bed or extended cab truck.

I have three different sizes of the exhaust pipe expanders. Best method for me was to insert the tool further in the pipe. After it is in the pipe, expand it as much as you can within reason and shape the outside with a hammer. Expand more, loosen and turn it slightly to get the metal pads on a different part of the pipe. Keep opening it up and hammering it. Eventually, you may need to make some relief cuts, but they should atlest be an inch or so long if you have the space. Four cuts around with reshaping with the hammer will open it up. Tack weld each relief cut in the beginning of the cut and the end. Do this while the tool is still expanded. Shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes each. You can do a series of tacks to close the gaps and sand them smooth to fit inside the pipe and sand the inside with a tootsie roll sanding roll to clean the inside.

Awesome! I've got a 94 F150 myself. gonna be doing an exhaust on it here soon. It's only a 300ci I-6, but I've got an idea. Up here in Michigan, we don't have any emissions testing. so, I picked up a dual-in, single out 2.5" Magnaflow 14" body I'm gonna use as basically a y-pipe and a resonator, then step it up to 3" to a Jones performance two-chamber muffler, basically almost identical to a Flowmaster 40 series, and run a 3.5" dump right before the rear axle. it should have that nice classic Flowmaster style rumble but I think the Magnaflow will tone it down enough to be pretty tame for every day driving.

Well talk about timing, looks like the cats are failing on my mom's 5.4 super duty and instead of buying that real expensive y-pipe with OE cats I was going to replace them with legal high flow cats so looks like this video came out exactly when I needed it to.
I think you made the right choice going with shorty's, on my '89 f350 460 I put long tubes on it before I eventually ended up deciding to go a turbo route (not done yet) and the long tube collectors are right in line with the radius arm brackets. My long tubes actually tuck up very tightly in the frame rail but it did require a longer run before it was able to be merged back into a single 3". I currently don't have cats because my truck is 32 years old and I live in a place where emissions testing doesn't happen but I definitely understand going with shorty's to get your merge closer to the engine so that you can put on a single cat that works more efficiently than having to potentially add two cats because of the run before they merge. Also I kinda figure any tubular manifold/header will outperform a cast log manifold.

Looks pretty good. You do great work. I've always heard that equal length headers are tuned for a specific rpm. Regular headers might lose peak torque at one rpm, but the different length primaries are tuned for a broader range and equal out over the powerband.
I've always been more of a gm guy, but I'm a gearhead above all else, so it's nice to see varying content. The different sized collector pipes are strange. Maybe Ford did that to broaden the powerband a little. Keep that torque curve super flat.
I've got an Edelbrock intake manifold for a 2.8L v6. The driver's side intake runners are almost square and the passenger's side runners are practically twice as tall as they are wide. It's not quite that exaggerated, but there is a definite size difference. I think that was to flatten the torque curve as well. The engine needs low end, so the smaller runners help power with off-idle port velocity and as they are running out of breath, the larger ones pick up the slack with higher flow up in the powerband. Their dyno result graphics show a super flat torque curve.
Can't wait to see (and hear) the rest of the system.

F250 switched in 1998. 1997 F250 still had this body.

Think I'd like to find 250 in this series. I can't afford any of the newer trucks.

All single cab short bed f-150's that was 4x4 only had a rear tank because the front tank would clear the transfer case

They look great but they are a nightmare to work on. The cab mounts are shot we can see

Where did you get the mandrel bend kit? I think I could possibly pull something like this off. Albeit MIG’ed instead of TIG. Very nice work!

Off topic ? A while ago for PWN you did awd Chevy truck well doing research trying to see if it’s possible to turn off awd in 2012 Denali Yukon ? I haven’t looked to see if mechanical or electric it’s just for burn outs before making passes at the track. I can tune out any limp modes I hope if it’s electrical driven. With Hp tuners obviously if it’s mechanical not gonna happen. Love the channel I’m one of Kyle’s Patreon’s at GRG sorry for the wired question. God Bless !

I'm not positive how the transfer case works on the 2012, but I'd be willing to bet its not just something you can turn on and off with a tune, its likely a mechanical part of the transfer case

@@LawrenceTolman yeah I was going for a more manual approach or electronic but that would be nice if I could do it with my laptop lol . I’m going to take a look at it again if it has an acuator I’m assuming it would be possible. But might have to tell the computer it’s fine for it to be off cause I’m pretty sure it would put him into limp mode . But that’s the fun of it lol thank
You keep up the awesome content .

How do you plan on what bends you will need? The 4th gen ram has a restrictive y pipe and idk what bends to get besides a new merge collector
