  • Thurmond is currently one of the centerpieces of the New River Gorge National Park, sitting on a large bend in the New River. The town is about 14 miles north of Beckley, and is mostly a ghost town now, with a population hovering around 5. They're trying to turn it into a tourist destination, even if no one wants to live there anymore. Enjoy this tour around town, with some views from across the river, all pictures are from December 19, 2022.
