1 thing i want to argue: YOU DO NOT NEED TO LIE The whole point of the "humanity" system isn't to lie, it's to comfort the people. Sometimes you need to lie and other times the truth is ok. P only gets humanity points when demonstrating human like traits. So enjoying the arts and comforting people gains points. This is actually a thing in the book, Pinocchio realizes that his nose doesn't always grow and asked the blue fairy why. The blue fairy points out that there are different types of lies ("running lies" i think she mentions?)
I'm not sure about 'running' lies, but comforting someone by telling them something that isn't true but can't be disproven is called a 'white' lie (presumably because it does no harm to anyone and therefore isn't morally 'bad' as lies go), but it *is* still a lie - it is factually not true, and the person telling it is fully aware of that, even if no one else is.
@@FenharelLoser yes I wanted The Golden Lie but certain things I Spoke the honest truth for and noticed P got a tone of humanity for it, I was a bit confused but now seeing your comment I'm certain thata what happened to me so my theory was not wrong

I do have something to add to Giangio's segment. One theory that someone else had put foreword and that I think has weight is that Peracelsus was in fact Manus' father. I was wondering if Harry would cover this game. A souls-like, Indie-developed over a period of years, heavily entrenched in source material allusions and direct nods game like Lies of P only comes around once in a lifetime. From when P wakes up to when his/Carlo's soul leaves his body, this is an intense game from start to finish. And this does not apply to the gameplay alone; the larger story of "humans going beyond natural limits, leading to their own destruction" may be a common dark fantasy thread, but Collodi's Adventures of Pinocchio already lends itself well to exploration of the darker parts of children's souls and human existence as a whole. In a way, Pinocchio was the original "android, of equal or superior human intelligence, struggling between its programmed purpose and what it means to live a HUMAN life". I say this having encountered a Halloween story in the game Twisted Wonderland which explores the same legend, albeit focusing on the Land of Fun/Pleasure Island and the popular characters of the Cat and the Fox, named Gideon and Foul Fellow in Disney's animated villain library. I'd suggest giving this event "Stage in Playful Land: Miraculous Puppets and the Phantom Amusement Park" a look for more Pinocchio related intrigue with more lighthearted fun before the (no less dire) stakes come up. After all, Pleasure Island is the place where lawless fun abounds... but very few can pay the ultimate price of losing everything that makes an individual themselves.
I love watching your story explained video essays Looking forward to you branching your content further 😊 (And I also love to compare your takes/ opinions with Gingy, in the rare cases where you two cover the same games)
Regarding Paracelsus, to understand who he really is, you have to go back to the Old Krat tales. Centuries before the events of the game, an "angel" fall from the sky, this being that the inhabitants of Krat considered has a god, came to earth to give humans the gift of immortality. But the things didn't go well and many people died from the petrification disease, in order to stop that, the inhabitants killed the angel who became the god thorns by death, only his arms remained, this is the arm is the object known as the arm of God. But after this event, some people among humans became immortals, since then these immortals are roaming the world, in order to resurrect this God, Paracelsus is one of this "Eternals", long ago he was an alchemist, he then found the secret to immortality and left the order, a few decades before the events of the game, he gave the alchemists the arm of God, to see if they can with their exepirements do something that can help the Organization to reach its goal, bring the one wing angel back to life.
I've actually been trying to play it for months, but it makes me physically ill from the motion blur (which you can't turn off). Hahaha. So, I don't know... maybe.

Thank you so much for the video - I have huge interest for this game but I also know that I would never be able to play it due to its difficulty. So I’m just enjoying sitting here and listening to the story ❤
I think you should've mentioned Geppeto's final sayings in both the 'good' and 'best' ending. I don't remember quite well since it's been a year, but in the 'good' ending, Geppeto calls P 'a useless puppet' or something similar before he dies. But in the 'best' ending, after P sheds a tear, Geppeto realizes that P was more than a puppet and akin to human. This makes him regret his choices and say 'Sorry, my son' or something similar before he dies.
Here's my theory: Petrification disease slowly turns the body to Kroud, trapping the soul inside and crystallizing it as Ergo (like a bug trapped in amber), thus rendering the sufferer "immortal" in a sense. This obviously is a bit of a drawback, hence why the angel was killed. But it could be that the angel's soul could be preserved as crystallized ergo as well, maybe stored in Golden Ergo, or in the Arm of God, and the alchemists interest in reviving the dead started as them trying to bring the angel back. That also could be why they were intrigued by the puppets: puppets seemingly can have personality based on the ergo inside of them, allowing for another route of "resurrection", as the other method (seemingly) causes a lot of mutations and such Edit: guess Harry agrees with me. What I'm not so clear on is why Ergo seemingly causes petrification disease. By that logic, most war vets should be suffering from the disease, since all people release their ergo on death, yet the disease was first observed in Krat during its golden age. More likely, I think the petrification disease is due to exposure to Kroud (which might be some sort of alien organism instead of actual crystal, hence why petrification disease is contagious), NOT ergo.
Fun fact if you go back later to the puppet where you get the ring for the man you can see she has written in her blood "I love you Julian" I'm not 100% sure when it apears but I think it's when you meet the real Sophia I don't know if you have to have high humanity and pick the "give her peace" option though.
"Decapitating a part of nameless puppets head doesnt weaken it it makes it stronger" All i saw was it turning in Yone from LoL who is also my nightmare
I got stuck on the lady of Illusion for a week. After overcoming her, every other boss bar sister were 1 or two tries max. Her, she took me another week to overcome, and after doing so, I'm such a better fighter in game for it.
Idk why I never realized before, but yeah after you defeat Fuoco the areas after that don't really have puppets. There's the puppet junkyard and then Gipettos workshop that has them. The puppets in the station late game are carcass infested shells of one's you destroyed. Didn't really put it together until now that when you kill Fuoco, you are stopping the production of puppets
You mention that Paracelsus cannot pick the gold fruit, and your theory is a divine reason. However, there's lines that suggest that the tree is actually the body of a Listener, another woman with the powers Sophia has, twisted by the alchemists into this form to create the gold fruit. So MY theory is that some degree of sentience remains, recognizes Paracelsus, hates what he and his fellow alchemists did to her, and opposes him in the only way it can, burning him on contact.
I think adalina is a play on cain and able with one sibling being jealous and harming the other and even afer confessing her sins all she ask for is an apple to eat.

That also could be why they were intrigued by the puppets: puppets seemingly can have personality based on the ergo inside of them, allowing for another route of "resurrection", as the other method (seemingly) causes a lot of mutations and such
Edit: guess Harry agrees with me.
Badass video, I wish we had more lore, I can't wait for the dlc n part 2 if they make ond
Glad I wasnt the only one who had difficulty with the Mad Clown Puppet
"Decapitating a part of nameless puppets head doesnt weaken it it makes it stronger"
All i saw was it turning in Yone from LoL who is also my nightmare
I got stuck on the lady of Illusion for a week. After overcoming her, every other boss bar sister were 1 or two tries max. Her, she took me another week to overcome, and after doing so, I'm such a better fighter in game for it.
That fight I was forced to learn how to perfect block
Oh harry...yes just tell me every damn story you can write a script for
Idk why I never realized before, but yeah after you defeat Fuoco the areas after that don't really have puppets. There's the puppet junkyard and then Gipettos workshop that has them. The puppets in the station late game are carcass infested shells of one's you destroyed.
Didn't really put it together until now that when you kill Fuoco, you are stopping the production of puppets
Nice to see u do a game I loved and played the bs outta great video and a great game
Let's go housekeeping!
Damn I just played the game but now that I am hearing and understanding the game story I am kinda sad for Romeo and Carlo
Is the music at the end of the video from the soundtrack? If so then it's amazing
Man I remember when you said you were working on this and it felt so long ago now 😅
I was just waiting for the phrase "would you kindly" to pop up
I was waiting for this 😂😂😂😅
You mention that Paracelsus cannot pick the gold fruit, and your theory is a divine reason.
I know how you feel when fighting the mad clown puppet
I think adalina is a play on cain and able with one sibling being jealous and harming the other and even afer confessing her sins all she ask for is an apple to eat.
Since it looks like there’s a possibility there’s something for the wizard of oz, it would be interesting if they did something similar with the little mermaid as well
Well the game certainly has an aesthetic. If I didn't suck at Souls games I would probably play it.
Hell yes!!!!
