For people who don't know: The film being used by the CIA as an interrogation tool is a reference to DBD killers like The Doctor (who was part of MK Ultra) and The Dredge (who was created by Dr. Otto Stamper in a way very reminiscent of Augustine Lieber's manipulations of Frank Stone and the Cedar Hills population). The Black Vale is a cult that worships the Entity and often works to "create" the best killers and survivors to help feed it. The cult has had a hand in many killers and survivors ending up in the Fog, including the Doctor, The Dredge, The Blight, The Twins, and Nicolas Cage (yes, the actor was set to play the Blight in a film produced by Otto Stamper's descendant, which ironically makes his lore very reminiscent of this game). The Imperiatti is not as thoroughly explored, but Felix Richter and Elodie Rakoto were the children of Imperiatti members who were taken by the Entity into the Entity's realm (often referred to as the Fog). Dead by Daylight does not have much time travel involved, but the Entity is able to crossover between universes and timelines, allowing multiple versions of the same people to end up trapped in the Fog. This has allowed the Entity to take survivors and killers from both the original Resident Evil timeline and the Remake timeline. One character in particular, Haddie Kaur, is basically the protagonist of Dead by Daylight as much of the lore explores her and her variants exploring overlaps (sites of murder where the barrier between the Entity and the world is weaker) and fighting monsters of the Fog. Augustine, with her many variants, feels like a dark version of Haddie combined with Otto Stamper, another character who worshipped the Entity only to ultimately be killed by one of the killers he mentored, Herman Carter aka The Doctor. Based on what I've seen from other people's playthroughs, these are the DBD characters that the Casting of Frank Stone characters most closely resemble: Bonnie Rivera = Thalita Lyra/Carmina Mora (cool older sister who tries to save her younger brother); also Jeff for being a counterculture musician with a troubled home life Jaime Rivera = Julian (a side character whose death / disappearance is the inciting incident before another character gets taken); also shades of Renato Lyra for being a younger brother to another character. Robert Green = Feng Min (a survivor of tragedy who is implied to have survivor's guilt / be making bad decisions because of said guilt) Sam Green = Elodie Rakoto/Haddie Kaur (crusader against the Entity, trying to save more lives, a member of the Imperiatti) Linda Castle = Mikaela Reid/Kate Denson (an artist who channeled their visions of the Entity into their work; also had previous run-ins with the Entity before being taken by it) Madi Rivera-Platt = Haddie Kaur/Zarina Kassir/Mikaela Reid (death of a parent leads them down a path headed for the Entity, also she dreams of the Entity's realm) Bruno Stanford III = Ace Visconti (sleazy scammer/gambler who bit off more than he could chew) Chris Gordon = Nea Karlsson/Meg Thomas (rebellious teen who breaks into abandoned buildings and inevitably finds out why that's a bad idea when they get taken by the Entity) Frank Stone = The Doctor (mentally unstable and violent person whose worst aspects were used by The Black Vale / The Entity); monster form resembles the Unknown/the Dredge for how he absorbs aspects of his victims Augustine Lieber = Otto Stamper (rich, powerful, manipulative person who thought their worship of the Entity made them invincible/untouchable)
he also missed out on what the entity feeds off, she feeds off emotions and the trials are a way for her to constantly gain a mix of emotions to eat. She will also give them trinkets linked to emotional evens to get a stronger feeding from her killers. she is also capable of entering a world whenever she wants to take or even having a hand in manipulating people like Adiris, Carmina and Johnna to be killers or break their mind so thell be fit for the realm.
@@GamingHarryYT was trying to give more context on the trails and why they are a thing, which she dose feed off emotions. I would argue consume and feeding can mean different things especially with a cosmic being. And I wouldn't consider the black vale to be the most reliable narrators, they worship it but they don't seem to really be all that knowledgeable of it deep down. They have also done things that seemed to mess with the entity's plans like nearly killing Carmina who the entity had been manipulating for decades. superb video though
In this case MASSIVE air quotes around “save everyone” as the implication of the save everyone ending is that they end up in the “Dead by Daylight” games which is an endless cycle of death and suffering
More over, whether or not you save everyone you can in the 2024 timeline is likely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. The entity has already taken over, and in the world of DBD, it is capable of bringing its victims back over, and over again regardless of if they escape or not (I only just learned this, but those who die during a trial simply forget what happened - and while someone could argue ignorance is bliss, it is still an unfortunate fate even if they aren't always aware of it). So while I've seen many argue that getting everyone killed is actually the better thing to do, since that means they won't be stuck in an endless loop of trials for the rest of eternity, that sadly is probably not the case. The only exception might be whoever is consumed by Frank Stone when he comes out of the projector (pro tip for anybody who may not know - you CAN save both Sam, and Linda here. Just don't help Stan. He will die five minutes later regardless, and there is nothing you can do at any point to stop this from happening), but that's obviously not any better of a fate, since they are still alive within him, and will live the rest of eternity in agony. Overall, the ending of this game can be summed up as, "there are fates worse than death."
@ItsHaisho The Entity still can take them even if they die because Bill was taken after he died in Left 4 Dead also it's the multiverse so there is one place out there where this never happens and everyone is fine but many universes they are all taken
@@ItsHaisho I actually somewhat disagree that the survivors are taken even if they die. If that was the implication, the game would have had them appear at the campfire no matter what, such as what happens if two survivors make it to the end. Since that doesn't happen, I'm lead to believe that because they died early, the Entity figured that they wouldn't make very good meals and abandoned them to their fate. Same for if you get Chris back to the past and Sam to escape through the Horologium. Although, in their cases it's probably more that the Entity can't reach them.
@justmyluck624 The entity may have just chosen to bring in whoever replaces them if they die (Claudette, Meg, et.), instead. Just like how in DBD it's not the same people every time. It cycles through them
The the premise of the game DBD is that this dark entity is collecting monsters and serial killers from across the multiverse to play one big game of murder tag
The Casting of Frank Stone is a fire title for a number of reasons. 1) Frank Stone worked at a steel mill 2) he became a “character” in the Murder Mill film
It's got several underlying meanings. those two included, but you can also look at it as Augustine is trying to "cast" a Frank Stone she can rebirth to bring the Entity to her world, as she mentions she "needed to find the film where his essence was most whole/pure"
@@extrashotofespresso_ You gotta remember that back in the day people don't nearly have as good skincare products and stuff either. You try to tough it out like them in the backwaters forever and you're gonna look like your grandma or grandpa at your forties. Sam is the one guy who didn't fit in because he looks insanely young considering his stress and trauma and everything.
Another hint that Jaime is the baby at the start is that he plays the killer’s victim in Murder Mill, thematically connecting real events to the movie.
@@somebigboyletters702 The prologue is 2024 Sams universe, so the infant Jaime there is not the same Jaime as the teenager we see in the game - but it is stil Jaime. Ie, it doesnt matter if he lives or dies. The 2024 version of Linda is the same as the one from 1980, we only ever play one Linda. But we play two different versions of Sam throughout the game.
the theory of Chris being Augustine is very possible. Indeed why is she sucked up in the portal? Also, while introducing Augustine says: "you name is what you are, that is important to remember." and "I CALL myself Augustine Lieber.' and not "I am Augustine". i find that a weird thing to say if it is someone's name.
Never mind the theories about Chris and Augustine and the Entity, I wanna know the timeline of events concerning the 10pm screening of Murder Mill where everyone started attacking one another! Did everyone suddenly start going mad or was there a Patient Zero who suddenly snapped? When did the Police get called; before or after the Employee got stamped to death? What exploded? Why did the recording end with the Reporter repeatedly yelling "OH, GOD!"? I WANT ANSWERS!
I was gonna comment this, it was a theory I had as well and his video just reminded me of the "I CALL myself Augustine Lieber" Also a small thread but when Sam Green catches them early on she refers to herself as "Tammy Lee Dixon" showing that shes got a proclivity towards pseudonyms
@rellikx7519 exactly. Also in the end, IF Chris makes it to the campfire, she says that Augustine looks familiar. Could be that she reconized her from the store but that is a strech. Also, where is Chris in the 2024 timeline? At the end augustine completed the movie, because if she is Chris she already had a strip of it.
I was trying to understand that as well! When they didn’t cast someone in his role I was like what? lol. Good catch. I caught the play on words though, that he was “cast” in iron forever.
I think it has more to do with the molten metal definition of casting. You pour molten metal into a cast to make a shape. The story is about molding (or casting) Frank into a killer. I don't think the Entity is treating it like tryouts, the dude is just being designed to be a killer. Also, it's a fun little thing to think about that she "casts" the film onto a screen to bring Frank back in his "killer" form.
I had no idea this game was related to Dead by Daylight, so when you started to talk about an Entity, hooks and trials I was so confused and wondered how the devs managed to get away with such similarities
Something I theorized was that Augustine Lieber is actually the second Chris that is created if she stays in 2024 and goes back in time later. Being after being pulled through time, seeing everything in the present, and going back in time to find that she's essentially been duplicated is a very easy backstory for Augustine's pursuit of knowledge. It also explains why the archive Linda finds includes not just information about Frank, but also the other "survivors" and places of interest to Chris and her friends.
My personal take on the Christine theory: yes, she is definitely Augustine! But she originates in the timeline we see in 1980. She moves to Cedar Hills, all the stuff we see happens and they split up the film, but after that, what we don't see, is Christine being fundamentally changed by what she experienced in the mill, the portal, and her chance encounter with her future self. Perhaps she manages to find the Black Vale through her own occult research, or maybe they contact her similar to how Sam was contacted. But either way, that version of Chris joins the Black Vale and gains training and knowledge about the entity and how Frank fits in, but they need her to help assemble the necessary pieces. Since they have the technology to travel through the different timelines, Chris is able to obtain several lifetimes worth of knowledge, and I think some of those timelines involve Chris NOT moving to Cedar Hill and therefore never meeting that version's Linda, Jaime or Bonnie; hence the versions of the movie (presumably the one Maddie has) featuring Bonnie in the role we saw Chris playing in the"flashback." Instead she goes to university to be a psychologist, deliberately putting herself in the position to mentally groom Frank into a murderer. And then just repeat the cycle over and over, collecting all the occult stuff, the different versions of the movie, as well as orchestrating the entire 1963 scenario with the mill murders culminating in Jaime's kidnapping and the shootout with Sam.
Y'know, I admire your dedication to your theory, but Deadline did an interview with some of the producers, and when they were asked about the whole "Chris is Augustine" theory, one of them basically just said "no."
Murder Mill seems to be Augustine's plan B after her original plan was foiled by Sam. However that would question on how much she was involved on everything that happens in the game. Even though there are multiverse shenanigans, it is still a huge coincidence that Chris happens to come from out of town and would have a big interest in making a film at the steel mill which would help Augustine bring the entity into her world. Either Augustine has some crazy luck or she has planned for Chris to move out to Cedar Hills.
The Hidden Object Guru has a really convincing theory that Chris might actually be a variant of Lieber herself. We know Augustine Lieber isn’t her real name. After all, the Horologium’s purpose is to pull in other Liebers to collect more footage of Frank Stone. So why does it suddenly suck in Chris? Plus it makes thematic sense since they’re both fixated on making the movie.
Epic of Gilgamesh could be a nod to House of Ashes, since it is the oldest epic story on record, originating from Mesopotamia like Naram-Sin, Pazuzu and Lamashtu, and the bat-alien creatures/resulting vampire stories.
There is a key part of the story where Gilgamesh descends to the Underworld to liberate his buddy Enkidu. Augustine directly cited Enkidu in her notes to be Frank’s inspiration, which makes her the cruel and unusual manipulator Ishtar. You see, Ishtar took out her spite for her advances being rejected by Gilgamesh by making his bestie die of illness. Also, the two bring wood back from a grand Cedar Forest after defeating the terrible monster Humbaba.
I was a bit too but when I read up a bit more on the wiki of dead by daylight, combined with the context of the game it seems to be implied that Augustine, across the multiverse, is trying to perform a ritual to summon the 'entity' to do so she needs 'killers' and 'victims'. This version of her seems to 'create' frank stone but the ritual isn't able to be completed thanks to Sherriff Green, however it seems she's able to resurrect Frank by assembling his captured essence across the film strips collected across the multiverse. Ultimately it seems regardless of who lives/dies, Augustine herself is sacrificed by the killer to the entity, which (trapping the 'victims' in a 'trial' which is ultimately the game Dead by Daylight. This trial seems to possibly exist outside of space and time which would explain why the original quartet of victims in DbD are 'never seen nor heard from again' despite possibly escaping their killers?
@@scvrlett18That’s only if the other two Survivors don’t make it to the campfire. By the end of the game you can have the core four (Madi, Linda, Sam and Chris if she stayed in 2024) all there, and whoever didn’t make it is replaced by the silhouette of the OG four Survivors from Dead by Daylight.
@DuelaDent52 fair enough I only made it with Linda and the cop so makes sense why I seen that but point still stands they didn't throw out the og survivors they are present in this game
I don’t play or know much about DBD but I think this is a great way to introduce new characters to it and I hope Supermassive Games does more stuff like this!
I personally believe Chris was also the old lady in the trinkets shop. Would explain why she happened to bring them the exact camera to capture Frank stone. If they never had that camera they never would’ve been able to stop him.
The worst part of all this is that The Entity is a small fish in a big pond. For all its power, its still hiding from far more powerful beings that could snuff it out. The trials are it trying to grow strong
There are other entities that are of a similar or even higher caliber than the entity. Like the unknown, the dredge (to some extent), pyramid head and Myers (since it was implied he forced his way into the realm without being taken). Sadako and Vecna are also really strong too.
So pretty much, this about Augustine trying to find her prefect champion for the trials. Makes me wonder if there is others just jumping around timelines and universes searching for their champion for the trials as well. Sounds like a big underworld gambling ring for the elites and we all just the pawns 😆
Thank you so much for doing a story explained video on this game! I love these types of games, and you do such a great job of explaining them! Keep up the great work!
Aaaaaaaah i have to wait because of the spoilers BUT I WILL BE BACK ! Thank you for the great video in general, i had a blast discovering your channel this summer !
I find Stan to be suspicious as well. For some reason both him and the old lady at the curiosity shop used the line "longer than a minute shorter than a lifetime" there's also shockingly little information about him and he just disappears randomly and when he comes back he's yelling about almost dying but to what?
We were gonna see what was chasing him, but that was cut from the game because Supermassive has a tendency to pick publishers that don't exactly treat them the kindest.
This game is really good. Maybe even my favorite from this developer. I personally have a few criticisms, however. First, I wish they had given us more crossover with the different timelines, but I doubt they wanted the scope of this game to be too insane. 😅 Secondly, we didn't get a motive for why Augustine wants to bring this horrible entity into existence or how she even knows about it. Also, its weird that she is shown to be working alone, but again, they probably didn't want the scope of the game to be too large. And third, I was most disappointed that Stanford didn't play a bigger role in the plot. He's the only character that has no connection to any other timeline, which is strange. I kept waiting for it to be revealed that he was Augustine's son or something or maybe a member of the cult. Anyway, great video. Thank you for breaking the story down. 👌
I think Augustine has employees as is written in a note when Madi is arriving to the mansion. However and most interesting is that she heavily insisted on all her employee personnel to be laid off while she had visitors. Her manager of housekeeping said he would only be one call away. Why would she not want them there is the question?
@michaeldones2320 Yes, she has a housekeeping staff, but I was talking about people working with her on the occult. I'm assuming she told her house staff to leave because they are not involved in her plan of bringing the entity to life.
I agree that I enjoy this game. Idk if it's my favorite, but it def doesn't deserve to be called the worst one yet. Tbf, I came in from a unique position of knowing the basics of the lore, but not knowing all of it, so I wasn't totally lost. And yeah, more timeline crossover would've been neat. We get 60s Sam coming to 2024, so that's cool, but I think 2024 Linda could've had a little more interaction with Chris. Hell, maybe there could be an option to have a 2024 character go to 1980 in place of Chris, like Madison.
Christine does remark during the ending if she makes it to the campfire in some endings, that she, Christine, feels like Augustine looks familiar to her, like that she is a mirror of herself
I thought she was just connecting the dots between the lady in the curiosity store and Augustine. After all, she only met the curiosity seller earlier that day, if we look at it from her perspective. If the Chris is indeed Augustine, then the comment about familiarity is much more interesting and intriguing.
Worth pointing out as well: The Imperiatti mentioned are also referenced in the main Dead by Daylight game. Two of the survivors, Felix and Élodie, are the children of members of the Imperiatti. It is noted in their lore that Felix and Elodie were part of a group of five such kids, calling themselves the Pariahs. Perhaps at some point, if Chen has a child, they will enter the fog too.
I will always love and appreciate your videos on games like these because you take the time to tell the story in depth and explain the branching choices and how they affect the story as a whole. Sometimes people only tell the story they got, but you record all segments and show what could have been and I just want you to know it makes the videos so much more enjoyable.
For fans of horror games, whether single player or asymmetric multiplayer (in DBD's case), this is probably one of the biggest horror crossover games ever. Being a SuperMassive Games fan, I admit to being intrigued when I saw people like HiddenObjectGuru speculating stuff from the trailers and BTS stuff. Since people remember the villains/killers of horror movies better than the heroes, in most cases, I mostly stick to watching/memorizing the basics of killer lore concerning Dead by Daylight and Behavior. This game may be focused on doling out DBD easter eggs, from the gameplay to the collectibles, but I believe fans of Until Dawn finally have the spiritual successor game they deserve, ultra nice since the Until Dawn remake/rerelease is less than a month away now. Thanks for covering this anticipated, ambitious, and rather intriguing game.
For those who aren’t aware, in the DBD universe, the Entity is a god-like creature with the ability to cause realities and time to crash in on eachother, seeking the lost and evil throughout history in order to sustain itself through the ritual.
@@bayern1445 I'm not sure it's trying to pose as "divine", it doesn't require some type of worship (apart from the hook things which is very ritualistic. In fact, the entity is very cruel to some of it's killer, and more so to those who fought back like the trapper (the hooks on his body are some form of submission to the entity)
thank you so much for the time that obviously you take in making this videos , theres people out there doing the same but you will be my favorite always , love how you narrate seriuously hope you are doing great 😉
18:24 "She's placed somewhere rather inconvenient." I don't know why that made me laugh so hard. 🤣🤣 That's such an interesting way to describe her predicament. Thank you. I needed a good chuckle today.
I like the resident every vibes the opening mansion scenes give off. Maybe it’s just me but a giant mysterious puzzle mansion is cool to me. Great video Harry!
Hey harry! Always glad to see when you upload, big fan of the content and the story explained/lore and order series in general! Glad to see another great video come up!
Linda Castle has to be a reference to William Castle a gimmick horror director from the late 50's (directed The Tingler, House on Haunted Hill, and 13 Ghosts), right? The scene at 19:56 of the chamber is straight out of the 90's 13 Ghosts remake and the whole theme of movies transporting souls through time-space is very in keeping with Castle's Gimmick-y "4D" film experiences.
I definitely think Chris and Augustine are connected. Possibly in the 1980 timeline, Augustine existed but never fully committed to the cult of the entity but like the other Augustine’s she still has a drive to explore forbidden knowledge. She has children and eventually Chris is born and has an interest in the macabre. She learns about Frank and the part of her that is a past Augustine awakens. That would explain why she was so obsessed overnight with Frank and why she had no issues with filming a crime scene. The portal opens for her because she is a descendant of Augustine and has collected some of the essence of Frank and so her time in that world is over. Of course there are some overlap with Old Augustine who had traveled there. I think Augustine is replacing other versions of herself with the horoglorium (?) so that she can be in any timeline in perpetuity.
Supermassive Games needs to make a horror anthology game with many stories from a good show like Black Mirror, Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside or The Twilight Zone. They need to have like 5 good stories that can be played and when you pass each of the 5 stories you can unlock other stories that also have multiple endings.
Always love your videos. You uncovered so much that I missed! I can say I had the same idea about the Chris/Augustine connection but only after seeing the endings where Chris doesn’t go back to the past and makes it to the end with at least one other person. At the campfire, Chris says Augustine seemed so “familiar.” She looks dazed.
I screamed lord "whaaaaaat?" As you said "then the game ends." This was thrilling and i wanted to know more. I think you are right with Augustiner being Chris. Was my guess too. Awesome video like always! 😊

Maybe the 2024 film didn't release Frank because they didn't find his lair? In the 1980 timeline, Frank only appeared after they started filming the hand so it would make sense that maybe they didn't find it in the 2024 timeline?
Wait, with the alternate timelines with minor or massive differences, is this a way to explain the different skins for the survivors? They aren't just cosmetic, they are technically canon to another universe?
Yup! The tomes sometimes touch on this. It’s also why there can be multiple of the same Survivor in one match, they’re all different versions of each other.
Its something people never really think about. Of course they'd have to, or everyone is just living together while xenomorphs, the t virus, demons and whatever other horror shinanigans contained to one universe, which sounds like hell XD
It's also assumed there's two different version of the same killer, the normal one and the version who got infected by whatever Blight is injecting himself with.
Something i really hope happens is we get more games like this with other killers from dead by daylight. Since many of the killers have origins we could playout the story of their origins in a different game.
This is kinda unrelated but I have a cool idea where at the end of DBD’s lifespan they could do an event where depending on if more survivors or more killers win a certain amount of matches as a community they could have an ending to the game with like a cutscene or final battle or something that’s good or bad depending on the outcome. Don’t know why I thought of it but just thought it was a cool idea lmao
Never played dead by daylight. After paying $40 the game was very worth the money if you like graphics, an animated story, relaxing and pressing a button, changing the scenes of a movie on the fly and feeling like you’re in a scary movie. Now I will say I feel the game was very short; it lacked substance when you walked around to look for things and I feel like this game was an introduction for a character for another game. I had some friends say it’s a new character for the next dead by daylight game. I’ve never played that game but I bought frank stone because I bought the quarry. The quarry is definitely longer than frank stone. Frank stone seems like really cool tv show short and sweet but I felt they could’ve added more gameplay or scenes for the money. I bought the game Friday or Saturday. And it Monday and I just beat the game and watched this explanation video. I’m going to play a few more times but it’s a very short game for those expecting tog et. A week or two out of this game. I might get that playing the story mode a few times seeing the different outcomes but I played this game two hours today and three yesterday and barely 1 on Saturday and I’m sure I bought the game on Saturday
@@nathanthomson777 All survivors just sitting in a campfire? That's not an ending, that's just backstory for the characters to appear in DBD. This needs an actual ending where all questions are answered and all the characters fates are resolved. Who are Ted, and more importantly, Augustine? What happened to Jaime, Chris and Robert? How are they gonna escape the entity? How did several timelines intertwined? How different characters from different timelines converged together? Many questions.
There was a Deadline article where they interviewed the producers of this game, they confirmed that a sequel won't happen, but that Supermassive is currently discussing with BHVR to make another DBD tie-in.
as none of those characters was in DBD currently i just assumed the only cannon ending to this was everyone dead no one survives because you still see dwight, claudette and jake andi i think meg at the campfire
I believe the shifting of the rooms in the mansion is not only caused by the changing of the TV but the Mansion itself is shifting between different versions of the mansion from different world each with a different interior structure
Also, it’s not mentioned here, but I think it’s implied the old sheriff (the one who took credit for stopping Frank Stone) is either part of the Black Vale too or was paid off by Lieber to not look any farther into the goings on at the Mill.
You got a bit of stuff wrong about Entity, it doesn't really consume matter or worlds, but instead feeds off of emotions. Entity itself is just an amalgam of them and trials exist to create as much of them as possible. It also doesn't *have* to be summoned to kidnap someone from a world, it kinda just snatches whoever from wherever as long as they might be of use to it.
No, the Entity DOES consume worlds whole if it’s able to, it just doesn’t do it every time it pulls people into its realm. The Champion was a special case since he was cooked up by the Black Vale to specifically draw the Entity’s attention and was assembled from hundreds of different Franks.
....after two VERY VERY long attempts to watch 6-7 hour plays through of this slog of a game....this is exactly what I needed .This game was too slow and I don't play DBD so I don't think it was made for people like me. Good to see an easy to follow recap. Thank you.
Honestly I think this is too slow for DBD players as well we just find the lore building really intriguing. But for a Supermassive/Dark Pictures (or The Quarry/Until Dawn) type game this makes a lot of sense. They still haven’t mastered the ability to go back and change your decisions imo but this does do it the best with “the cutting room floor”)
I strongly agree about the theory of Augustine Lieber being Christine Gordon from different timelines. But I dont see any concrete evidence to support this because of several confusing scenes 😂 For example; 1 moment we saw Chris going back to the portal through the massive movie screen. That leads to a timeline with 2 Christine Gordons existing in a single timeline. And then near the end we saw Old Augustine opening the lid of the Horologium portal with her younger self coming out of it. And then we also know that the Chris that Madi sent back through the Horologium portal, went back to the same timeline that she originated from. And the most hinting conversations they had when they introduced themselves; "I CALL myself Augustine Lieber" and not " I AM Augustine Lieber " but then again maybe this theory is just flatout wrong in every way 😂
The cassette recorder in this game that you play the psychiatrists notes about Frank Stone is extra weird. In real life, that's the design of the Curtis Mathes VCR that my parents bought in 1978. I have spend several minutes trying to dig up a manufacturer or model number, with no luck. It was early enough in the life of the VHS standard that only 2-hour and 4-hour modes existed. When 6-hour recording speed was introduced, attempting to play a 6-hour tape on the machine would cause 150% speed playback.

Idk how it is to play this game myself but I really enjoy watching Let's Plays of Supermassive Games and this was no exception. Even with just surface level of knowledge of DBD I thought they did a great job of creating an origin story for the game's events.
For people who don't know:
The film being used by the CIA as an interrogation tool is a reference to DBD killers like The Doctor (who was part of MK Ultra) and The Dredge (who was created by Dr.
Based on what I've seen from other people's playthroughs, these are the DBD characters that the Casting of Frank Stone characters most closely resemble:
Bonnie Rivera = Thalita Lyra/Carmina Mora (cool older sister who tries to save her younger brother); also Jeff for being a counterculture musician with a troubled home life
Jaime Rivera = Julian (a side character whose death / disappearance is the inciting incident before another character gets taken); also shades of Renato Lyra for being a younger brother to another character.
Robert Green = Feng Min (a survivor of tragedy who is implied to have survivor's guilt / be making bad decisions because of said guilt)
Sam Green = Elodie Rakoto/Haddie Kaur (crusader against the Entity, trying to save more lives, a member of the Imperiatti)
Linda Castle = Mikaela Reid/Kate Denson (an artist who channeled their visions of the Entity into their work; also had previous run-ins with the Entity before being taken by it)
Madi Rivera-Platt = Haddie Kaur/Zarina Kassir/Mikaela Reid (death of a parent leads them down a path headed for the Entity, also she dreams of the Entity's realm)
Bruno Stanford III = Ace Visconti (sleazy scammer/gambler who bit off more than he could chew)
Chris Gordon = Nea Karlsson/Meg Thomas (rebellious teen who breaks into abandoned buildings and inevitably finds out why that's a bad idea when they get taken by the Entity)

Augustine Lieber = Otto Stamper (rich, powerful, manipulative person who thought their worship of the Entity made them invincible/untouchable)
Pinning this because I know diddly squat about DbD lore 😂
he also missed out on what the entity feeds off, she feeds off emotions and the trials are a way for her to constantly gain a mix of emotions to eat.

@@GamingHarryYT Yes, it feeds off emotions to get enough power to consume worlds, iirc.
@@SgtTankDempseyBill got taken right before he died.
They always describe it as tag, but it’s more like Cops and Robbers.
And feed on the emotions
And the entity getting trolled by one mysterious guy
Squid game!
Yeah more a interdimentional parasitic plant using symbiotic killers to harvest emotions for it to live. It's pretty cool implications wise
The Casting of Frank Stone is a fire title for a number of reasons. 1) Frank Stone worked at a steel mill 2) he became a “character” in the Murder Mill film
i also feel like it’s a slight wordplay on “casting stones” ! really good title
It's got several underlying meanings. those two included, but you can also look at it as Augustine is trying to "cast" a Frank Stone she can rebirth to bring the Entity to her world, as she mentions she "needed to find the film where his essence was most whole/pure"
You can also view it as Frank Stone is being casted like liquid metal into a mould with the "ingredients" being the pieces of his victims.
It can also refer to casting a spell through a ritual!
It Can also means Frank being casted by the entity to see if he's worthy to join the killer crew.

the theory of Chris being Augustine is very possible.
Why did the recording end with the Reporter repeatedly yelling "OH, GOD!"?

I was gonna comment this, it was a theory I had as well and his video just reminded me of the "I CALL myself Augustine Lieber" Also a small thread but when Sam Green catches them early on she refers to herself as "Tammy Lee Dixon" showing that shes got a proclivity towards pseudonyms
@@rellikx7519 Fine work, mate
@rellikx7519 exactly. Also in the end, IF Chris makes it to the campfire, she says that Augustine looks familiar. Could be that she reconized her from the store but that is a strech. Also, where is Chris in the 2024 timeline? At the end augustine completed the movie, because if she is Chris she already had a strip of it.
Idk I think the end credit scene debunks that
Omg i only now understand the name of the game "the casting of frank stone" it was his tryouts to see wether he would be accepted as killer or not
I was trying to understand that as well!
Also, it's a fun little thing to think about that she "casts" the film onto a screen to bring Frank back in his "killer" form.
its all 3 of these meanings at once, hope this helps! ❤

To be honest I wasn't expecting such a complex plot, great job Supermassive Games, and good job to you Harry.
@@DuelaDent52ok you’ve nailed it with the horologium bringing the liebers

Look, this is the only way Frank Stone could get endlessly looped by Ellen Ripley.
It comes down to how it's used. Lately, it's just a way to revisit moments from better movies or have actors from those movies make a cameo.
Epic of Gilgamesh could be a nod to House of Ashes, since it is the oldest epic story on record, originating from Mesopotamia like Naram-Sin, Pazuzu and Lamashtu, and the bat-alien creatures/resulting vampire stories.
also, the Akkadian demon thing Augustine had in her ‘private reliquary’
There is a key part of the story where Gilgamesh descends to the Underworld to liberate his buddy Enkidu. Augustine directly cited Enkidu in her notes to be Frank’s inspiration, which makes her the cruel and unusual manipulator Ishtar. You see, Ishtar took out her spite for her advances being rejected by Gilgamesh by making his bestie die of illness. Also, the two bring wood back from a grand Cedar Forest after defeating the terrible monster Humbaba.
I been wanting story explained about this game because honestly confused about it. Glad it’s one of the best who can explain video games
@itsdantaylor at the end of the game there is 2 figures blacked out around the firepit and it's quite clear it's meg with her pig tails and Dwight

Hell yeah man, been waiting for this one.
same here man im going to enjoy this game so much :D

I find it funny how the entity is trying so hard to larp as divine

👍
Supermassive Games needs to make a horror anthology game with many stories from a good show like Black Mirror, Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside or The Twilight Zone. Wait, with the alternate timelines with minor or massive differences, is this a way to explain the different skins for the survivors? They aren't just cosmetic, they are technically canon to another universe?

Something i really hope happens is we get more games like this with other killers from dead by daylight. Since many of the killers have origins we could playout the story of their origins in a different game.
This is kinda unrelated but I have a cool idea where at the end of DBD’s lifespan they could do an event where depending on if more survivors or more killers win a certain amount of matches as a community they could have an ending to the game with like a cutscene or final battle or something that’s good or bad depending on the outcome. How different characters from different timelines converged together?
Many questions.
@@JRRR92that is 100% an ending. Not all endings need to be happy and absolute.
There was a Deadline article where they interviewed the producers of this game, they confirmed that a sequel won't happen, but that Supermassive is currently discussing with BHVR to make another DBD tie-in.
Not hating, all this content and your narration is very good listening to fall asleep to at bedtime.
as none of those characters was in DBD currently i just assumed the only cannon ending to this was everyone dead no one survives because you still see dwight, claudette and jake andi i think meg at the campfire
This is great. Thanks for all your hard work.
Still gotta give this man credit for his Alan Wake 2 law and order. I've fallen asleep to that video countless times
Thanks for the video.
I was so scared you wouldn’t do this one but pleasantly surprised you did!
I have actually been waiting for your video when i saw this released.
The Chris theory also makes sense because there was the one timeline where Bonnie was in the movie, presumably a timeline without Chris
Been hoping for a vid like this after i beat this game🤩🤩 great video
I believe the shifting of the rooms in the mansion is not only caused by the changing of the TV but the Mansion itself is shifting between different versions of the mansion from different world each with a different interior structure
Also, it’s not mentioned here, but I think it’s implied the old sheriff (the one who took credit for stopping Frank Stone) is either part of the Black Vale too or was paid off by Lieber to not look any farther into the goings on at the Mill.
Man, the theory about Chris and Augustine is mind blowing. Nice one!
The wiki states it does eat worlds lol.
Your analysis is awesome. Thank you. I also thought that Chris could be Augustine.
I was just watching the playthrough of insym and your upload notification pops 🎉 this week is going to be great 🥳
Been waiting for this!!!!!!
It would be fantastic if they ended up making games like this about all the killers and the survivors and better portray their backgrounds.
....after two VERY VERY long attempts to watch 6-7 hour plays through of this slog of a game....this is exactly what I needed .This game was too slow and I don't play DBD so I don't think it was made for people like me.
But I dont see any concrete evidence to support this because of several confusing scenes 😂
For example; 1 moment we saw Chris going back to the portal through the massive movie screen.
And the most hinting conversations they had when they introduced themselves;
"I CALL myself Augustine Lieber" and not " I AM Augustine Lieber "
but then again maybe this theory is just flatout wrong in every way 😂
Cant wait for the sequel where the Punisher hunts down all the DBD monsters, The Casting of Frank Castle
Love it when a lore and order drops
Was waiting for this
36:24 OMG, today is Friday the 13th of september!!!! spooky lol
This is a fascinating cross over, like damn thats cool
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday I was just watching a playthrough of this game on horror bro channel and I was thinking man I can't wait for Henry to do and explain video on this game and today I wake up to this video🎉🎉🎉 thank you for the videos Man this is another great one in the books, again you did a great job love your content and can't wait to see more videos🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My favorite explanation channel
Idk how it is to play this game myself but I really enjoy watching Let's Plays of Supermassive Games and this was no exception. Even with just surface level of knowledge of DBD I thought they did a great job of creating an origin story for the game's events.
