      Hey, the HH.Holmes recap you did contains a tiny error - he was suspected for the death of Mr. Holton but Mrs. Holton survived well passed Holmes's execution, living in the stores area
      Thoughts....not actually sure if both Holtons lived passed Holmes' execution but I know for sure Mrs. Holton survived and was the person Holmes bought a pharmacy from as she was the owner and doctor

    The rumbling and slamming against the door does not start until after the Curator rips out the page with the name of the serial killing, leading me to believe the Curator took matters into his own hands and let the serial killer live instead of letting him die, upsetting something or someone, the curator's "higher ups". The Curator often remarks he is jealous of us being able to make choices and interfere, whereas he is only allowed to observe.

    I had a theory that Munday had a partner helping him, and I'm surprised you didn't touch on this. So I noticed that in the saw trap in the spa, Ryan survived by letting Monica die. We see his mannequin still standing, nothing seemed to happen to him. I think he somehow became Munday's partner, dressing up in an identical outfit to help him out in the hotel. I also noticed that while Du'Met was chasing the girls outside with an axe, he wasn't holding the axe when he walked into the curing house where Mark and Charlie hid. Mark also tells Charlie that he wonders if Du'Met has a partner. He didn't have the axe inside the lighthouse either. But when the cop arrived on the dock, Du'Met appeared out of nowhere holding the axe again, where he held on to the boat, then was killed by the propeller. I think the hand we see grabbing the mask on the shore was Ryan, who continues the cycle after Munday had died. I also think they had a second hotel to continue the murders, and that's the hotel where the girl who "won" the contest at the end gets invited to.

    Adding two things I noticed: Munday's "dead" body was identified through dental records and our Munday/killer doesn't speak at all which made me think he pulled his teeth out to leave them in the warehouse fire. I have always pictured The Curator as Death. As he says several times: "I’m not here to help, just take into record what you are doing" Essentially he’s just there to see if people is going to die or not based on actions we make in the games. Maybe this is his way to give us the power of life and death. He wrote a fictional story and wants us to complete it by making decisions. If you look closely enough when you are playing these games then you can actually see him several times in the background. This indicates that these games/story’s are probably not real and we’re just being tested. There’s so much we know about the story’s of these games but we know nothing about The Curator and he probably wants it to stay that way. We will see in time tho. Sorry for the long comment but I needed to rant a bit lol. Hopefully I have open some eyes to what he could possibly be and we could theorize further. Great video as always Harry!

      I'm almost certain The Curator is the personification of Death, there's too many hints that he is that line up without much room for doubt, what I'm curious about is who the player is? I assume God as we do have the power to "interfere" and give characters in the stories/real world the strength to survive or not, but that almost seems too easy especially since one of their future releases by the title (O'Death) is probably going to revolve around the mystery of who he is. Maybe we're another entity that Death, tired of being an observer, is trying to empower with the abilities of God that he can control & thus have more of an influence on the world? Which would be bad lol
      He's the best character in these games to me. There's genuine intrigue to him, dunno if he's a good guy, bad guy or impartial as he says? It does feel like this is gunna crescendo at some point though & we'll have to make a choice of whether to trust him or not.

    My personal theory: The Curator is Death. We, the player and his “visitor”, are Destiny. Destiny can sway the events of the story based on how certain characters have a different destiny with their actions. Death is just there to record and see it. The one at the door I’m not positive of, but I think it might be Fate. Fate has no “sway”. There is one path, one story. I believe that Destiny, Death, and Fate must all battle for the outcome of one of the upcoming games/seasons.

Holmes, i.e. the popular media portrayal that grew over many years of questionable new coverage and not the guy whose only confirmed kills were 9 total: family members, a friend and his family and claimed in court nearly 30, many of which were confirmed alive at that time.

    As someone that is a mortician, it’s hilarious how misinformed people are about formaldehyde. First, it’s a gas not a liquid, so after a period of time of being in an open container like a bathtub, all of the formaldehyde would gas off. Second, formaldehyde does not preserve you forever. It’s strong enough to preserve tissue long enough for a funeral, but it is physically impossible to preserve every inch of tissue of the human body. It doesn’t prevent flies or maggots or decomposition either.
    Edit: wanted to add on that it’s as funny as the lack of research that went into mortuary assistant

      Formaldehyde can be diluted into a liquid thats probably what’s in the game and it can also if strong enough causes precipitation of of proteins which results in cell death so in theory it can prevent maggots and the eggs of flies from surviving probably not the flies itself as they’d be able to just go away from it but I’d agree with on the fact that all of this in the game is very far fetched but I liked the idea nonetheless 😂

    Minor Curator theory -- the Curator is the Ferryman. His rules are that he cannot personally intervene. I'm unsure as to why the player can, but that's a theory for another day. Throughout the series, we're tasked with collecting certain items for previews of what could happen, as well as him allotting us the opportunities for 'hints'. However, this final addition he tasks us with a request he's never made before. He offers reward for the Ferryman's tokens. This might suggest that ( like the tarot cards held a personal connection previously ) these have more of a connection to the Curator than the player might at first glance think. At the end, it shows names crossed off a list on a page in front of him. First is H.H. Holmes ( and his given name ). The second is Munday, which is crossed out. However, his door is accosted before he can cross out Du'met's. While it might be as suggested, that this is a response to his 'failure' to have more people die in the anthology, I would offer this suggestion instead. The loud bang at the door was both a reminder and a threat -- the Curator is NOT to intervene -- meaning he's not permitted to cross out the alias ( and thus end his life ). The Curator is shown visibly displeased at the end, but is he displeased that so little have died during the series... or that Du'met survived, and he's powerless to put an end to the piles of work the Devil in Him continues to provide?

It turns out that Nov 17th, 1895 was the day Holmes was arrested, and also one of the channel moderators’ birthdays. Games usually release on Fridays, like movies, so more people can experience them. So, they allowed one day leeway time; they were spot on for the release date.

    idk if you've seen The Girl From Nowhere but it follows a girl who is basically a judge who eggs on ordinary people with such dark and deadly desires. She actually gets to sort of "control" the situation without actually making people do the bad acts herself. She kinda weeds the darkness out into the open for proper analysis and then these people are punished (either dying horribly or just suffering for life). The Curator reminds me of the girl. But he actually can't do anything and can only sit there and hold his tongue while he watches us make a decision. He has been pretty annoyed with players on a few occasions and has shown resentment towards certain choices.

    Thank you for this video, Harry.
    I appreciated the little details in this game. Like the check in/out log book, immediately you could tell the handwriting under the check out date was always different than the signatures and check in date, but the check out date handwriting always matched, so obviously those people weren't checking out.
    What I can't figure out is if this is suppose to have supernatural elements. Because of the little details that were put in the game, I can't accept that anything is coincidence. Holmes' birth name was Herman Webster Mudgett; Munday's full name was Hector Waylon Munday. Both have the initials HWM. Did the creators of this game do that to hint that Hector is the reincarnation of Holmes? And, during one scene where Munday falls off the roof, after a minute he gets back up like nothing happened, not even a limp, not to mention how he survived that last confrontation on the boat. The game is called The Devil In Me, maybe Munday does have the devil in him, making him invulnerable?
    I know it's just a video game, not to be taken so seriously, but it's a story being told, too.

Keeping that in mind, I think The Devil In Me is incorporating some details from the Phantom of the Opera (classic Lon Chaney film and musical adaptation). For people thinking he might be reincarnation of Holmes because Holmes birth name and munday's full names are similar : i think this is just devs trying to tell us that no matter what, there always would be a devil who is lurking in the dark waiting for a chance to act. According to me, even the last scene in which the killer stayed alive despite being struck by an anchor, was an implication that even tho we were able to kill one killer, the other will show up. Cuz this is just how world works. There are so many bad people in this world not just one.
    I know this kills the drama behind existence of "multiple killers" so don't take my comment seriously lmao
    I also like other theories about killers, like the guy, rayn, who killed his sister in the saw test might be helping munday. Cuz Munday saw him as the perfect candidate to assist him in the whole murder spree since he spared himself not his sister.

    Before I realised Munday was actively trying to keep Kate alive so he could use her to blackmail Mark into making the call and continuing the cycle, Kate's impenetrable plot armour had me climbing the walls during my darkest timeline run. She always lived, no matter how many stupid decisions I made or how badly I failed her QTEs. I even had a bug where the screwdriver, which I had made a point of not giving her, magically appeared in her possession after The Curator's intermission, saving her in the glass room. I was starting to suspect that Supermassive had a crush on Jesse Buckley and didn't want to kill her character. At that point it had become a personal goal to kill Kate and not just because it was the goal of the run. Finally, I decided not to make the call when the time came.
    If I could say one thing to Supermassive, it would be this: "Don't make your players roll for outcomes you are not prepared to follow through on and avoid plunging your characters into pearl unless you are willing to follow through with the failstate". I'm not wrong here am I? In a game like the Dark Pictures Anthology, having a character who is impossible to kill instead kills any and all tension in a scene. A finale-only death worked with Sam in Until Dawn because she only appeared in a handful of scenes, but since Kate is arguably The Devil In Me's main character, her plot armour is much more obvious.

    • @Cha_Cha_Chai
      @Cha_Cha_Chai Год назад +60

      The Quarry suffered the same shortcomings with a good chunk of its characters. The current generation of games don’t feel as open to possibilities as Until Dawn did. Deaths seem almost fixed to the narrative rather than oopsies that can occur to derail it.

    • @RidireOiche
      @RidireOiche Год назад +31

      @@Cha_Cha_Chai You make an excellent point, as the games have gotten longer the branching paths do seem more restrictive than previous games, with fixed points in the narrative the story crisscrosses like checkpoints that reign in the feeling of choice. Supermassive did manage to keep the suspense and tension surrounding the entire group in Little Hope. How the group dynamics and narrative were handled made it feel natural and the danger feel balanced, to the point where you wouldn't notice until it was pointed out that Andrew couldn't die before the finale. Throughout that game, Supermassive expertly positioned Andrew near but never directly in the path of the danger; he was always our avatar assisting others or on the periphery of danger, never the target of the pearl as Kate becomes repeatedly throughout the events of this game.

    I think the Curator is perhaps is a ferryman like Charon in Greek mythology. Ferrying people between the land of the living & the death. After all he asks us to collect obols & he's acting as a mere observer to our choices. However, he is occidentally asking us if we want tips & perhaps the power he serves is annoyed that he's indirectly helping or offering us tips when all he's supposed to do is observe not interfere. I have 3 ideas as to why he is doing this: 1. He's job is to test humanity & it's will to survive through the player finishing his fictional stories. 2. He is testing us through these fictional stories to determine if we are good enough to take his place as the Curator or become a higher power. 3. He's acting a judge as we are dead & these stories are a test to determine if we should be allowed to continue to live or pass on to the land of the dead

    • @nyxen8712
      @nyxen8712 Год назад +7

      I really like these theories. Another theory to add just on the spot. What if the curator is testing us to take over the role of death, or a higher up, and using these tests to determine if we can handle it. When the curator essentially let's du met live and the other force gets angry, maybe it's the other force realizing something is off and going on, and this is the curators way of either taking control and sending the message that death is replaceable, or that the Curator, although scared and hesitant, is a messenger of change. Heck, maybe the curator is training us to take over for him so that he may become death himself, so he can make the choices, and letting dy met live is him taking a stand against death as a taunt.

    I would have preferred if the game focused more on the actual hh Holmes as the villain. I know these games have all been modern focused but I had just listened to the last podcast on the left episodes about Holmes prior to purchase. The intro of the game was more unsettling than its entirety.

    I actually do find these games to be Better than a lot of Movies. Unlike a lot of films they are actually using unique and different ideas. Hollywood could take a lesson or 2 from these Video game writers.

    I feel like the stories in the whole collection of dark pictures anthology games could have been fleshed out a lot better starting from the very first of the series on man of Medan whose ending was just insulting. I just feel a lot of times plot twists are either not working because they're too dumb or simplistic.
    To even my own surprise I'd say until dawn the game that started this whole anthology although not being part of it to this day had the best story. Very simple and generic premise but very well executed with strong moments, good mystery vibes and atmosphere and some reveals that really hit the spot.

    This video is amazing.
    My playthrough of the Devil in Me left a LOT of questions and holes. So many that I thought this game was downright the weakest in the Anthology because nothing made sense! Now, with the full picture, I can see how well thought out the story really was! I just wish it could be that cohesive no matter how you played.
    Kate's 'emotion rock' or whatever, was still pretty random, tho

    After playing it, the game itself was ok, but the amount of glitches was absolutely incredible. Pathfinding would break, Mark's camera would start floating inside of his head if I used it im certain scenarios, and I also had to reset the game at one point because I got off a platform the wrong way and got stuck in a pile of trash.

    I just commented this on the House of Ashes video as well, but the newspaper that talks about Bush has a headline about Sherman being executed. Now I want to see how many other connections can be made between the games.

      Man of medan:The shirt that says salem direct reference to little hope because salem/and little hope is about witch craft.
      Little hope: i forget exactly what it is,but something you find relates to army or vampires which house of ashes is about and the premonition of The girl falling off the rope.
      House of Ashes: You find the animatronic with the cig locked in a cell here first,(i honestly thought it was a reference to until dawn where the construction worker is a wendigo) then the premonition of charlie on fire.
      Devil in me:When using kate before glass trap,when finding the fileson the tables theres a magazine about mars and space. Then the premonition of the people in space.
