Same here, the idea of a world filled with anomalies, not just some big bad is so fascinating. There's something captivating about knowing that there's a bureau that might be containing both a fridge which must be looked at, at all times with drawings which cant be removed or destroyed in one room; and an eldritch god that can bestow abstract abilities a few rooms down the hall. Plus, the idea of the oldest house itself and the bizarre nature of it's layout as an anomalous site is also so cool

Small correction Polaris wasn’t awakened by Dr. Darling she was always awake and communicating with Jesse.
Leading her around and keeping her safe, and is specifically the reason Jesse was initially able to escape the FBC.
Dylan’s hatred of Polaris stems from the fact that she couldn’t or wouldn’t help him as well.
Polaris and The Hiss are one and the same essentially two sides of the same coin.
Resonance Based Dimensional intelligences, where they differ is that The Hiss seeks to make everything else into a part of The Hiss.
While Polaris seeks out individuals that resonate with her and seeks to harmonize with them.
Which puts the two of them at odds because Polaris can’t find her individuals to seek her song with if they’re all mirrored copies.
And so Polaris opposes The Hiss, drowning out its resonance with her own, and allowing more individuals to arise that might add their tune to her chorus.
Basically the Hiss is an Ear Worm that you can’t help singing, which causes everyone else to start singing it too and get it stuck in their heads as well.
While Polaris is a gentle cacophony of sound and noice, annoying and off putting to some, unnoticeable to most, and to precious few calming and protective.

    Some more things of interest:
    - The Oldest House does not play well with modern technology. All throughout the game, the entire building has a very 50's vibe to it. This is likely because the House was discovered (and "settled") during the 50's.
    - Ahti is thought to be a part of the Board. He keeps calling Jesse his "assistant", so it's possible that he sees the position of "Director" as a subordinate of the Board - and by extension, him.
    - Trench' corruption was not instantly. It took a long while. There are messages in the game where Trench exclaims his growing suspicion of Darling, even going as far as to consider cutting Darling off from researching the slide projector. As a small in-game detail, the Research department has A LOT more cameras in it than any other department.
    - Dylan isn't as affected by the Hiss because he voluntarily allowed himself to be infected. The dreamscape part near the end, that's what all the people who are infected see: a continuous nightmare as the Hiss breaks down their mind. Dylan, allowing the Hiss in voluntarily, doesn't need to be in a looped nightmare - his infection is already complete.
    - Polaris (and by extension Hedron) were fighting off the Hiss in Slidescape-36 already, when the Bureau investigated it. It's why only Trench is affected, and not the others: The Hiss was being suppressed by Polaris.
    - Hedron IS NOT Polaris. Polaris is very similar to the Hiss: a resonance based, extra-dimensional life form. It infected Jesse, Dylan, and Hedron, similarly to how the Hiss infects people. It just happens that Polaris is benevolent, unlike the Hiss. Hedron is thus only a conduit for Polaris. The resonance emitted from Hedron, originates from Polaris. That's why the end of the game works: Hedron is destroyed, and thus Polaris' resonance in the Bureau disappears. Jesse then finds Polaris' resonance/infection inside of herself, and uses that to feed the HRA's instead. It's why Jesse is immune to the Hiss - Polaris protects her. In a way, Jesse became the new Hedron - a conduit for the Polaris resonance/infection. Polaris herself is probably still in Slidescape-36, although as an extra-dimensional being, it's unlikely she'd be confined to a singular dimension.

One of the very first things Ahti says is "there will be wörk for the äx" should Jesse fail the interview. Ahti is completely independent of the Board or any other mystical forces at play. There's also the theory that the Oldest House is his House, since there's some mythos about the real life Nordic god Ahti translating to "The Man of the House."

Control is one of those games that you have no idea how to feel about going through its plot. Is it scary? Unnerving? Humourous? Thrilling? Maybe a mosh-pit of feelings, and that's what makes it such a good SCP game. It doesn't take itself too seriously by running wild with sidequests, but is able to create a cohesive and interesting story when storytelling matters.

    • @Contevent
      @Contevent Год назад +22

I don't think you can make a "proper" game in the SCP universe, because it varies a lot depending on the author.
Is the SCP benevolent? Are they trying to control the world? Who has the power, the O5? O command as a whole? The Ethical Committee as ti is able to override the O5s? The Administrator, if he even exists?
What is the policy regarding the SCPs? Are they studying them in a cold uncaring way, or are they compassionate and truly wants to help protect them from themselves and the world around, like SCP 5031 or 2662?
What is the nature of D classes? Are they all irreedemable monsters or are they people who ended up on the bad side of the Foundation? Are they thrown at the SCPs to see what stick or are they trained and prepared as best as possible depending on their assignment? Are the monthly executions still canon or did we ditch that part a long time ago?
The games and videos about the SCP has the advantage of being low budget, and therefor focusing only on one specific aspect of the SCP world, often its military branch confronting itself to the supernatural. If you made a proper SCP game, you would have to rule on one canon, necessarily putting aside the majority of the interpretations.
And we don't even talk about SCP 001

I find it interesting that the Hiss (a violent, malevolent resonance) came from the burned slide. While it is highly likely that it was influenced in some way by Alan Wake, I believe that it's possible that the Hiss' nature was changed due to the burning of the slide. The slides acted as portals to the Slidescapes but they could also have the ability to influence the Slidescapes. Perhaps, the Hiss was a normal resonance until it was subjected to the burning of the slide which gave it a nature akin to that of fire (ravenous, consuming, desiring to take everything around it).

Phenomenal analysis and theory. I wanted to put the mind-blown emoji but I can't find it.
I wondered this also. I wondered if the Hiss is a distorted form of what it was meant to be or should have been. Maybe the portal was not destroyed in the flames, but, as you said, the portal was warped, therefore the Hiss was deformed.
If this is true, though, where would Hedron/Polaris fit?
I'm only on my second playthrough and ofcourse a lot of details escape the memory when first taking in such a wild stimulus and barrage of ideas and images, but I kind of feel like Polaris is literally the opposite of the Hiss. Naturally opposing forces that are connected to each other.
The hot to the cold. The north to the south.
If the Hiss is a resonance/frequency/sound, then a sound/frequency/resonance can be played in reverse, no?
If the Hiss is an accident, then a natural opposite seems less likely....unless Polaris is also an accident.
      Mind-blown, again.
Is the Hiss, really violent, though? I mean ofcourse it is, but could we give it the "Thanos lens" or even the "Joker lens"?
"He might be right. He kinda has a point."
I dunno, Dylan seemed pretty genuins when he said he liked the Hiss. The sense of unity. Only the Hiss could unite the world. Humans are already pretty pphukked anyway and it was the humans that tried grooming Dylan into a weapon.
Is it possible, the Hiss merely exposes the evil that is already within?

I love Remedy games and I loved control since it is the inception of the Remedyverse!
Love the cast, specially Casper's actor, hope he shows up in future games
Would like to make some other interpretations of certain points you talk about:
When it comes to Northmoore it appears that he didn't just got his powers out of control but rather lost control due to his lust for power, let me explain:
After he became the director he started spearheading the research and discovery of multiple items of power that he ended consuming just like Jesse does in the game, but he consumed way too much power that basically made him a living nuclear plant that needed to eject his excess of energy from his body or else he would explode, that's when they decided to use him for the reactor we see in game, the reason why it was of high priority to fix the reactor was because it got shut off so Northmoore was not able to continue ejecting his energy so eventually he would blow up
It is unknown if Northmoore is alive but at least we know he is not sentient at this point but maybe his power was too much for him that even after him being dead, his body still produces enough energy to power the oldest house
Another little detail in what Ash Jr says in a log, is that the oldest house probably existed even before men but it took a different disguise, sorta like appearing as a giant tree for early men, it implies that the oldest house is the base idea for the Ygrisil tree in norse mythology, currently it looks like a boring ass government building because that is what would be more familiar to the FBC when they found it
The service weapon is also very old, even before Northmoore, it is believed to have changed functionality and shape depending on the user, some of the most famous "shapes" are Excalibur and Mjolnir (more norse references)
The reason why Ash thinks the board is a hostile occupant of the oldest house is due to how they wanted the Bureau out of the foundation after giving Northmoore the service weapon and seeing how they started to investigate, so maybe there is a big secret still undiscovered there that would expose the board in some way they are still very powerful and we don't know how many of them are and if they are different beings between the board or if all of them are the same species as former (doubt it)

    • @brittany45
      @brittany45 Год назад

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the Board was the founding archetype of what is a "Deity" and whoever is bound to an Altered Item is a "Demigod/Blessed". If the Hiss existed *before* the burning of the Slides, then this can't be the first time they/it have tried a hostile takeover. Look at most mythology, the evil entity takes the form of a Hissing creature if you will (serpent, dragon, ect.) begats/created an Antichrist figure (satan, Loki, Dylan), while God (the Board) sends/orders an Angel (Polaris, Former if the previous Directors ever found it before it got the boot) to a chosen champion (Jesse) after the good guys (Trench, ostensively the FBC as a whole) is unable to resist/contain the corrupting threat.
As notes say, archetypes are power, and what archetype is more powerful than The Oldest Story.

I really hope more things come from these creators because I love the work that they do. Certain bits of their creativity is so well made. Also, I loved just using the force powers to mess up the office spaces. It's so therapeutic and the physics effects are so good.
