- I took some sample footage using the new Blackmagic Camera app on my way to work. Here are the settings I used:
iPhone 14 Pro Max
Apple ProRes 4444
1080p
24mm Lens
Cinematic Stabilization
No Color Grade
MY THOUGHTS
It’s amazing that you can record in ProRes 4444 from an iPhone. I’d love it if you could record in BRAW in the future. They don’t have a LOG profile like FilmicPro. I think this FREE app will challenge FilmicPro’s business new subscription-based model.
Was waiting to see the results. Thank you for uploading this! 🙏🙏🙏 Please upload a few more of these if possible! Regards!

@@ptfs Thank you 🙏! The image quality is amazing!
Hi, thanks for the video! What are your camera settings please? Thank you
You’re welcome! I set the shutter angle to 180 degrees, select the 24mm lens, and then adjust the ISO to the exposure level I want. I’m shooting in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’ll then choose ProRes and I’ve been shooting at HD resolution instead of 4K.
The ISO selector doesn’t work properly and exposure self adjusts itself when it needs to, no matter what you do. This app has a long way to go if it is to be used properly. There are reasons for manual controls, and international standards that have meaning and usefulness, so let’s stick with then, yeah?
Is there a way to shoot still images or does the app only shoot video? I love the app but can't figure out how to use it for stills.
@DellanaMetalArts I don’t think it can take stills. Sorry.
@@ptfs - It seems odd that a camera wouldn't be able to take stills, but I'm happy to know so I don't keep looking. Thank you! 😊
Is there a way to switch off sharpening in the app?
@olufemiabraham9157 Good question! I don’t see any settings to do that. I have heard that recording in Apple Log reduces the over sharpening, but that is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro models. I am shooting on the iPhone 14 Pro Max so I don’t see a way to do that on my device.
So wait are these files 12-bit 4444??
I don’t know the specs. I’m guessing they’re still 10 bit. But they do call it 4444 🤷🏼♂️
@@ptfs interesting, never heard of 10-bit ProRes 4444....did you try opening it in Resolve and seeing what the description says?
Yeah the website just says 10-bit based on which iPhone you are using.
I think its just the container that is 444 the bit depth rate is still 10. So choosing that you'll just get a heavier file
I opened it in Resolve on my iPad and it says 12-bit 🤷🏼♂️ The website doesn’t say that and Apple has never said their phones can record in 12-bit, but that’s what Resolve says.
To be honest i dont have a iphone
😂
I Have an iPhone 12 but cannot operate this app successfully without ND filters and cannot find one to fit the iPhone 12 ! Any ideas or comments welcome p-lease ?
@AugenblickAeriel Are you using shutter angle or shutter speed?
@@ptfs Shutter speed!
@AugenblickAerial I ran into a problem when I tried to lock in shutter angle and footage was instantly overexposed. When I used autoexposure it solved the problem. I didn’t notice a problem with motion blur yet though I might have just missed it.
Thanks for the info. I'll give it another try.

I can't understand why u took these locations. Sorry, but boring. In your video nothing happens. Nothing. How can I judge the quality of the app, when u take "photos"? And it is not necessary to take prores 444, much too much space on your phone and u only need it when you want to do a lot of colour-work in post. For your video 422 or even 420 would have been enough. I suggest you don't know what these specs mean.
