    Informative video. Royal Canin contains carrageenan in all of their wet pet foods. Advocates of RC say there is no proof carrageenan is carcinogenic, but it has been banned in the EU for this reason. The RC formulas sold in Europe are much different than the RC sold in the USA. RC dry food is very expensive considering it is mostly corn, wheat and rice. If you are feeding dry food, Blue is certainly a better choice than Royal Canin.

    Vets get a big commission from companies like hills science diet and royal canin. That's why vets always push it and try to sell as much as they can. Both RC and HS have tons of filler and by products.

    Can you specifically tell me which blue Buffalo food formula? I have 2 minis a 3 y.o and a 4 month old. I want to give them the best. I had a 12 y.o mini who died from pancreatitis. I want to prevent health issues gor my pups.

    Hi, could you please tell me if dietary needs are the same for toy and teacup schnauzers ? I’d really appreciate if you could help me on this one, as I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere.

    My Senior Mini Schnauzer is on Royal Canin SO Rx diet as she had crystals in her urine when I adopted her last year. It has CORN PRODUCTS in it!! I just ordered Farmers Dog for her. I hope I did the right thing for her.

      Isn’t it shocking how much filler and by product RC has in it? I was shocked and appalled, especially because of how expensive it is. I hope farmers dog works better for her.

    Do you use the regular adult chicken & brown rice formula? Not too much fat in it? Thank you!

    • @dukesschnauzers
      @dukesschnauzers  11 месяцев назад

      Yes I use the regular formula which has 14% fat. So far it has worked great for my crew! There is a weight management formula from Blue Buffalo which has a min fat of 9% and a max fat of 13%. Most adult food for dogs has 16% fat, so I feel good feeding the original formula with 14% fat, and their daily fish oils supplement. With that being said, depending on your dogs activity level, you may want to drop to the weight management formula is your dog is older and gains weight. As a general rule, younger dogs need more fat than older dogs.

      @@dukesschnauzers Thank you so much! We lost our last mini schnauzer to diabetes because we did not know about the diet they should be on. Kate is 8 months old. We want to do everything possible for her to be healthy. She is very active.

      We lost one of ours in '17 from diabetes. About 4 yrs. Before that he had an emergency surgery to remove 36 Bladder stones. From then on he was on royal canin urinary blend prescription canned food.He did pretty good on that. Then came the nightmare of diabetes. (Poor guy 😢) . From watching this video I can't help but think it was pancreatitis that eventually got the best of him. Since around the start of COVID I noticed the change in color of the royal canin. The Schnauzer we have now is 6 and not a day goes by that I don't think of am I feeding him right?, should I change his food. The price is out of control.$65 for a 10# bag of schnauzer formula. So now I'm strongly leaning towards switching. My boy has had some allergies and has a potbelly. It might be a sign for me.I just happened upon this video looking for breeders to tell my best friend about , who is also a Schnauzer breeder. I'm sorry for your loss. It's extremely hard. I've had dogs and horses my whole life and losing any of them is so hard. But those Schnauzers are something special. Take care

      I'm really concerned about the excess carbs as well as too much fat. We're studying the options to make the best choice possible. For now, we're switching over to the Blue Buffalo.

      I like either Nutro Ultra puppy or Blue Buffalo puppy food for their ingredients. You don’t have to be worried so much about the fat content for mini schnauzer puppies because they need the extra fat content in their youth.

    My puppy is 22 weeks, I got him at 15 weeks. I switched him to blue Buffalo but the vet recommended purina and he would vomit that up, so i switched to royal canin miniature schnauzer puppy... So as of now he's on half and half blue Buffalo and royal canin because it takes 5-7 days to do the switch. So now, after watching this video, idk what to do. Go back to blue Buffalo? And when should I switch Ace over to adult food?

    • @dukesschnauzers
      @dukesschnauzers  11 месяцев назад

      It’s really not abnormal for vets to suggest purina or Royal Canin, those in addition to hills is a default for them. I suggest puppy parents switch to adult food at 10 months to one year of age depending on their dogs activity level. Puppy food has more fat, so if your puppy is super super active, I suggest leaving them on it till 1 year. In regards to what food to use, the choice is totally up to you and what you and your vet feel is best for your pup. Did you vet suggest the Royal canin because of the lower fat %? We love blue buffalo in this house, and I personally wouldn’t consider going back to Royal Canin until they change their formula back and take out the corn in their food.

      @Duke's Schnauzers my vet suggested purina but I had already started blue Buffalo and they didn't recommend that. I switched to royal canin because of a video I watched from you. I'm just trying to do everything right. My Yorkie (he's passed on) had diabetes the last half of his life & I really wanna do everything in my power to avoid that if I can. Giving insulin shots is no fun & testing glucose was even worse 💔 I used wellness core for him. The hills prescription was not good for him.
