    Ever since the 2015 release of Hideo Kojima's METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, fans have endlessly speculated over its many secrets, misdirects, and possible interpretations. Yet its harshest critics, on the other hand, have alleged the game was left unfinished, and ultimately unfulfilling.
    A common complaint has been that TPP lacked cutscenes with the typical MGS substance, and that it's story feels elliptical. Even die-hard fans have convinced themselves of a coming secret 'Chapter Three', where every dot will be connected, and every stray plot-line conclusively tied up.
    But is it possible that underneath it all, MGSV is not only a completely finished game, but one with more detailed, rich, and nuanced cut-scenes than any entry before it?
    In this new series from Futurasound Productions, creator of the hit trilogy 'WTF Happens in MGSV', we return again to the polarizing and mysteriously hypnotic swan song that is MGSV:TPP - this time to take a deeper dive than ever, specifically into the cutscenes.
    What did Code Talker mean when he said 'Eyes on Kazuhira'? Is everything as it seems on Mother Base? Or is Kaz hiding some sort of nefarious secret...behind the drapery? Let's find out!

    I don’t really buy the whole “ocelot is weird in this game because he’s under hypnosis”. The truth tapes show us ocelot before he undergoes treatment and he’s indistinguishable from the character we see through the rest of the game. I more subscribe to the idea that this is ocelots true personality. This is the only game where he’s not trying to trick everybody by putting on some outlandish character. He’s just helping the Boss(es) so he can more or less be his actual self for once- a highly intelligent, level headed and loyal man.

MGV isn't that amazing. It's the best gameplay of MG series, but it's very shallow and hollow compared to other MG titles. Also the main gameplay loop are not designed for people with OCD. I just got stuck raiding camps endlessly trying to upgrade items to tackle main missions. And I never really did the main missions because I always felt under powered and not ready. Here it's another interpretation, what if Miller literally could not recognize Big Boss face. Taking into account that when you're in the ACC at night and zoom into the window you can see the reflection of you avatar instead, also Huey and the AI pod also don't seem to recognize him and in one point it's said that soldiers in the battlefield don't even know Big Bosses face only his reputation.
    So what I'm saying it's that Venom Snake real face during the game it's really the one we created as our avatar.

    • @Tcatracing
      @Tcatracing 3 года назад +38

      That;s a fun theory but it isn't true because Venom Clearly has Big Bosses facial features later in life
      unless you're going to suggest Solid Snake didn't know big bosses face, or that he knew Venom as his Big Boss, which is even less likely, though it would explain how he didn't know BB was his dad.

    • @RecluseBootsy
      @RecluseBootsy 3 года назад +23

      Fun theory, like the previous guy said but you're missing one crucial detail. Kaz is blind.
      The details of this theory just needs to shift to Venom's vocal pattern, since he rarely speaks as is and I full on agree.
      None of the Diamond Dogs knew what Big Boss actually looked like prior to being fultoned, the other enlisted men from GZ are all batshit crazy now too, so it isn't hard to pass him off without the facial reconstruction. All they need is the reputation and physical presence of the Phantom, like you said.
      It's only Huey, Kaz, and Ocelot who matter regarding their reactions toward Venom. Huey was dumbfounded and downright confused when he saw you, Kaz seems uneasy the whole time as well as undermines Venom's command every time, and Ocelot is technically your handler there to make sure the hypnogogia and ruse itself is effective. Even the AI Pod seemed confused that it was Snake.
      I'm thinking Kaz is the only one with a motive to overthrow you. A coup, of sorts. He stands by his idealism but he's also a traitor, but to what capacity on both counts? He threatened to shoot Venom out of the sky, he intentionally let the response teams get killed in the Metal Slug mission, he's been in recent contact with Zero, he's being kept from certain details of the Phantom project even if he's pieced it together on his own, and he's been uncomfortable on motherbase ever since he's arrived there.

      There's definitely a hidden depth to V. At a surface view it falls way short of the typical MGS storytelling format. But like most MGS fans do, it takes reviewing and combing for details and indepth analysis to really get the full picture. It doesn't help that most people didn't play Peace Walker, not being a numbered title in the series. I've come around from my original stance on V, that it was a bad story. It's just different, I think PW did it better, but that's just my opinion. As great as the gameplay is, it doesn't make up for the fractured story structure, and insufferable Pequod intros every single mission.

      @@jonatanperdomo432 I agree with this point. I think people's expectations may have - somewhat understandably - been for V to have fed them a MGS2/4-style set of bloated codec calls or cutscenes to explain the narrative for them.
      What V actually provided was a more nuanced, layered delivery of its story. The use of the cassette tapes typifies this. Futurasound/Jorin does a brilliant job at analysing the depth of MGSV.

    Also glad you brought up Silent Hill re: the way the Skulls move. I always thought of them as moving in a horror-creature way (perhaps specifically j-horror popularized that kind of jerky movement). As a horror fan I always enjoy the horror bits Kojima injects in to his games as they are usually quite excellent (which makes me think Silent Hills would've turned out pretty good :(
    I think their movement also resembles that of a marionette, which would make sense in representing the skulls, but also recalls psycho mantis controlling other people, especially the B&B corps in MGS4.
    Fwiw, I think "Voices" is a fantastic bit of horror gameplay. Slowly making your way towards and in to the Devil's House is one of the creepiest and unnerving sequences I've played.

    I can't wait to get into this topic. We all know Ocelot is a triple agent triple crossing everyone. Juggling agencies and handlers like he used to juggle those wheel guns.
    But Kaz... Oof, what a history. When I met the man, he was already dead in a cabin not too far from Shadow Moses. The only report I had was a... Phantom... of him by Liquid, it fooled his closest friends and set a baseline for the kind of man Miller was to his peers.
    By the time TPP came out, I felt like something was off with him the whole time. Telling Venom he's calling the shots but undermines him at every turn, refusing the prosthetics knowing where they come from, consistently opposes anything Ocelot suggests, flinches when Huey calls him a traitor too, and the nail in the coffin was Codetalker's cryptic warning. He had something to hide and it wasn't all laid out bare.
    The conversation with Zero isn't too damning. Spies gotta spy, liars gotta lie BUT what's Kaz's Endgame? His motivations? Where does his loyalty lie ultimately?

    My theory on the skull unit's guns is that it is indeed formed with metallic archaea, as well as being composed of metallic archaea. We already know it can be used to enrich uranium, corrode metal, used in improving machines à la Huey Emmerich, and be used to puppet humans. So it's not too far fetched to say that the weapons are composed of the metallic archaea. It could be possible that the mist is an inert form of the archaea that the skulls can manipulate.

    • @ASteelWheel

    Nothing and no one can or ever will convince me that Ocelot actually hypnotized himself to forget such crucial things. Ocelot is just being Ocelot, playing the role he is supposed to for that time. Not Adamska, not Revolver, not Ocelot, but aid to Venom.
    I'll never believe he hypnotized himself then.

  • @AvianSavara

    I've always been fairly certain that Ocelot was at least one of Miller's principal interogators / handlers (and the high likelyhood that he eventually becomes his assassin in 2005). Or that Miller was under his jurisdiction as Shalashaska. How else would he know so much about Miller than if he handled the matter personally. It is also not explicit in any game when the two met.
    I've always been puzzled by the change in Miller's eyes, along with Code Talker's cryptic warning about them. This is a fascinating mystery.
    There is much to indicate Skull Face spared Miller's life after the Skulls Unit ambush. This is ostensibly done to in order to draw Big Boss out from hiding and into the open. But in order to do so, he releases Miller into custody of Soviet forces, making him a visible and accessible target under Ocelot's purview. The exchange would likely mean he and Ocelot have a "gentleman's agreement", a game theory -style play between both spymasters and interrogators. Skull Face gets his wish, exposing "Big Boss" by using Miller as bait. Ocelot gains entrance into Diamond Dogs by only placing the Big boss' Phantom into harm's way, allowing Big Boss to escape Skull Face's notice. Later, Skull Face may have his doubts, but actually *seems* convinced he is facing the real Big boss when Venom and him meet at OKB Zero. Ocelot himself insists to Venom Snake how critical is is to play into Skull Face's plan by rescuing Miller, therefore further reinforcing Venom's confidence in him, Miller owing him one despite having every reason to hate him, and Skull Face being none the wiser about Big Boss. That's some good conning, con man.
    Skull Face likely had Miller injected with parasites not long before handing him off to Ocelot. The purpose and effects of that treatment could be anything from the medical intervention required to save the lone survivor of the ambush OR to use him as a trojan-horse style trap (just like he did with Paz) by implanting him with a strain of the vocal cord parasites, perhaps, in order to make him a transmission vector at Mother Base, OR an attempt to control him via the parasites in the event of his death (the second outbreak happens - after - his death, read only AFTER Huey makes absolutely sure he is dead and fiddling with the scanning equipment at MB, etc) Whatever actually happens, it seems Skull Face was using Miller in some way.
    Anyways... the ramblings of a madman!

    • @waltlock8805
