Wainwrights Coast to Coast walk PART ONE by Wiltshire Man

  • I backpacked and camped all 192 miles of the unofficial Wainwright coast to coast path.
The path starts on the Irish sea at St Bee's and ends 192 miles away at Robin hoods bay. It links 3 national parks and takes in some of the most scenic and rugged landscape this island has to offer.
The walk is graded as "Hard" and a good level of fitness is required and proper clothing too.
I walked the route in July and was very fortunate with the weather only experiencing on bout or rain and very heavy rain too.

The B role is good but some videos do tend to have to much. It's getting the balance right. I sometimes use drone shots in my videos. You've gotta have music to that

Genuinly, hand on heart, the best video ive watched in a very long time, brilliantly done. Having no music was a great idea, the sounds of the water, insects, birds, wind, footsteps, etc etc made it feel so much more natural, almost as if veiwers were actually there. I loved every second of it. I do admire your range of interests and general zest for life . keep them coming. Thanks for sharing and take care

    Wainwright’s Last Words:
‘I am the last person qualified to preach to others, but I offer to readers three injunctions for their future visits to Lakeland where I hope they will find the pleasures I found: to avoid accidents and always to watch where you are putting your feet; to be kind to animals and respect their dignity; and, third, to stop griping and to count your blessings every night at the close of every day.
    From a slippered retirement, goodbye.’
Wainwright in the Valleys of Lakeland, Introduction.

Just completed your video trilogy. I really enjoyed it and your perception and commentary. Wonderful scenery and the feet-on-the-ground experience was well conveyed. Thanks for letting us hear all the sounds. I like music but it is seldom relevant in most of the videos on RUclips. It was a good decision to preserve the soundtrack. There were many wonderful sounds. May this be a good example for other RUclipsrs. Congratulations on the completion. I hope and trust your shoes treated your feet well and that you are in better shape for having walked 192 miles. I am sure your soul is. You are a good man.

    Lovely video Sandy & commentary!
My home is in the NE Lakes just inside the National Park Boundary. I have wandered the Fell with my Collies almost daily over the years. They knew the ground better than me of course. Together we walked all of The Fells time and again & never grew tired of them. I was a MRT Member. We had planned to walk the Wainwright’s Coast to Coast path but sadly never did and never will together as both my Collies, Jack & Keld have now gone. Doing the walk without them would not seem right somehow.
Since I lost dear Keld (Meaning: A well fed by a Mountain Stream) Jan 23 2018 18:30, he died in my arms & I felt his final breath on my cheek, I have not really felt like walking The Fell again. It just isn’t the same. Their Ashes were scattered locally up on The Fell as mine will be. Scattering Keld’s ashes last year was the last time I set foot on The Fell even though I live here.
I will follow your walk with great interest as I also love The Dales which we also explored together for years.
Perhaps I may help with some local dialect:
Lakes - only one - Bassenthwaite.
All the others are either Waters, Tarns or Mere’s.
Examples: WinderMERE. Red TARN. Wast WATER. A clearing is a Thwaite & small rivers are Becks.
Anyway Sandy, I’m guessing you are back now so It would be pointless to wish you luck but am looking forward to watching all videos along the walk.
Thanks & all the best. Nick, Jack & Keld.

That was a touching comment Nick Thank You. I too am fond of my two little dogs, both terriers and old one's now but for me the walking must continue even though the dogs can't go far now, I still can.
Get yourself another collie. It won't be Keld but it will be it's own character just as Keld was his and you are yours.

Hi Sandy ! You were right when you identified the Isle of Mann from the clifftop. It was a very clear day, it's not usually that good. A great video and can't wait to see part 2. Glad to see you are taking it "easy" today after your long walk and return trip. All the best, Pete
