Coast to coast walk:- St Bee's to Robin Hood's bay. Walking Wainwright's coast to coast

- Following In the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright. This is my attempt at the coast to coast walk from the west coast of England and the shores of the Irish Sea , over to the east coast of England and the North Sea shore.
The route is 198 mile long (depending on which book you read) or 192 miles and starts at St Bee’s head and Ends up at the Bay hotel ( Wainwright’s bar) in Robin Hoods bay.
During this epic adventure I travel up and over the fells and waterways of the Lake District national park, across the Yorkshire dales and the North York moors. During which I encounter vistas and views that are truly awe inspiring. Now this walk comes at a cost! It’s an absolute slog in parts, but so worth it, it is untrue.
The route itself is not an official guided route. You could be tricked into thinking it is; due to the large amount of guide books and maps available. However. That is the joy of taking up this challenge, which some do in as little as 5 days ( absolute hero’s) through to 9 / 11 and my personal favourite 13, (which is how long it took me). This video is not a "how to" ; there are plenty of experts out there already who can give you a turn by turn. This is just a view on my attempt at walking across England.
The route takes you through Ennerdale Bridge, Rosthwaite/ Borrowdale , Grasmere, Patterdale, Shap, Kirkby Stephen, Ravenseat, Keld, Reeth, Richmond, Danby Wiske, Ingleby Arncliffe , Ingleby Cross, Blakey Ridge, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, Grosmont and Robin Hoods bay. During which you get a really good feel for English village life as it was; and when it’s not pouring with rain ( which I escaped) ! I can only describe them
As stunning!
This is not an easy walk by any stretch of the imagination. During this stroll you encounter your first obstacle in Dent Hill going all the way to the peak of Kidstey pike ( if you don’t beast yourself on either the Cape, Nethermost pike or Helvellyn- just for the giggles), but you are rewarded with views to die for. looking out over the expanse of the likes of Ennerdale water or Haweswater reservoir. If you are carrying your home with you, (camping) then there are some special wild camping areas to feast on such as Grisedale tarn and the magnificent Angle tarn. Remember though; wild camping is not legal in the uk. It is "tolerated" in the Lake District as long as you follow the countryside rules, leaving "no trace" as an absolute standard! there are plenty of B&b's and registered camp sites along the route so you shouldn't be too stuck as a coast to coaster. Even in peak times.
A personal favourite of mine was visiting the Nine standards Rigg. Full of mystery as no one really knows why it’s there. Don’t get lost on the moorland after the rigg mind! Some good navigational skills are required as there are 3 routes for different times of the year. If all else fails head in a general south direction…. So I’m told!
The myth that is Robin Hood is explored during the walk. Robin hoods grave is located on the route.... but I couldn't find it.
Blacksail YHA is a welcome relief as the most remote yha in England. Don’t walk past it as you will regret not taking the rest before Loft beck. There's steep ..... and then there's Loft Beck!.........you have been warned!
I’ve done a few short walks and longer guided affairs. But nothing like this distance on my own. I had an amazing time doing it. Life is about adventure so. My advice to you would be… Have the idea ……Get yourself out there and Get it done!

A great film of a great trip, as someone else has said one of the best I've seen.
This brought back a few memories, I walked this with a good friend 29 years ago, as a young man of 33. Unfortunatly, my good friend passed away a few years ago due to Cancer, and I plan to walk this again next year, in his memory.
Thank you for watching and your kind comments. I really enjoyed the adventure. The dedication at the end made the whole thing worthwhile. Once my feet tell me they are my friends again, I shall do another long trip. Thanks again
I just finished the walk last month at the age of 60. Already thinking about going again when I turn 70. Cheers.
Give me a shout when you do. I might join you!
I’ve watched a lot of C2C videos, and walking videos in general, and this is one of the best. Brilliant effort to complete the walk and a great video account of it. Thanks for sharing it.
Rob Hindle : Really glad you enjoyed the video. I had a great time on the walk. I shall be doing another in the next few weeks. I seem to have gotten the bug. I appreciate your comments.
Simply. Location. Music. Experience. Personality. Inspiration! Marvellous.
Such kind words. Thank you very much.
its so hard to tell you how good is your work and you are so under rated on YT i shared your stuff on each an every social media page/groups keep up good work you will be a champ one day on YT
That is extremely kind of you. It’s nice to have feedback and appreciation for things that you do. I’m just happy to get out there every now and again and document what I see. I’m glad my content has had a little impact. Thanks again.
Fantastic, thanks for taking us along.
Matt Mills: My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for putting this up. Well done. I agree with your sentiments. Just get out and do it. Life is over all too soon and best to do long hikes when you can.
Keith Millar: Thanks for watching. It’s that time of year again soon; so I will be out on another stroll as soon as I can.
Just loved this. Congratulations. Thanks for the inspiration~ we are going!
Belinda Farmer: really glad you enjoyed it. And that you got something from it. The walk is spectacular… however do watch some other content creators that shows what it’s like when not so good weather wise! I was fortunate. However I wish you all the best with your journey.
Oh Boy! I love the honesty, the fact that I can see another person of color doing it, makes me feel happy. Planning to give it a try next year. Watching all the videos to get an idea of what to expect. Great job on the video BTW enjoyable.
Wondertiff: thanks for watching. My advice!…. Don’t wait. Summer is round the corner. Just get it done. If you need any info/ pointers. Then just tap me up.
@@thecowboycamper1195 I’m a 47 year old Educator, wife & mother. 15 days off for an adventure is a luxury that I have to plan for way in advance and meticulously, I’ve started the planning. Looking forward to it.
All good reasons. Offer still stands. If you need any help then I’m only a message away. Btw. I was 50 when I did that walk. So it’s more than doable.
@@thecowboycamper1195 offer accepted 🥰
Excellent
Superb video. We walked the C2C in summer 2020 to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary (see Hunt on The Trails if you’re interested). What I absolutely love about your representation is that it captures the ‘feel’ of the walk without getting too technical about the logistics. Fabulous memories. Thanks for putting it together. Subbed.
Judith Hunt: such kind words! Thank you. I’m glad it has come across as a different type of walking video. By just documenting the experience I think I was able to enjoy it more. Will be doing another walk very soon. Will definitely take a look at your content. Thanks very much for taking time out to comment.
I really enjoyed this, very down to earth and natural. Well produced as well!
Thank you very much for sharing.
My pleasure. Glad you liked it. It was never my intention to do a turn by turn as it would have missed the point of this trip for me. So I’m glad it has landed the way it has. Thanks again.
Love your video and your personality. My wife and I finished this hike on September 4. Thanks for sharing your memories, which only heightened mine. Cheers!
Frumious: Thank you so much for your comments and such kind words. Well done yourselves for completing the walk. Glad this video went some way to reminding you of your experience.
I've just completed the Coast to Coast and been watching some videos to reminisce already!! Really likes your video and style of it along with the music. Thanks for sharing and helping me re-live it all. Great walk, memories for a lifetime.
@dawnthird2538 congratulations on completing this walk. I hope you enjoyed every minute of it. I certainly did mine! Thank you for watching and taking time out to contact. Really pleased this video went some way I to bringing back those memories for you.
Loved watching this. What an experience. It moved me. We start on 1 Sept. Eeek.
Rachael Garside: lovely to hear that my video has had an effect. Makes it all worth while so thank you. Your trip isnt that far off so fingers crossed for you and good luck!
A beautifully produced video with excellent editing and graphics.
I walked the C2C in 2016 and it was a really enjoyable adventure. Your video bright back so many (sometimes painful) memories. Thank you for posting.
Rbrc59: Kind words thank you. Really pleased that you enjoyed my version of the C2C.
This is so beautifully shot - thanks for sharing
Abbas Panjwani: Such kind words. Thank you for watching.
Walked the route Sept 22 over 14 days - organised walk with hotels and luggage transfer - still a challenge. Thanks for the video - so many memories. Loved it - video and the walk.
Glad to see that my trip brought back those memories for you. Thank you for watching. And taking time to comment.
Thank you for a lovely video - very interesting and some of your comments sparked many thoughts of my own. Shared experiences brings the best out in people - Bravo - wonderful and sadly missed by so many.
@MrJezster : Very kind of you to say! Thank you. Glad you enjoyed my little trip. Thank you for watching and taking time out to comment.
Absolutely class!!
I’ve wanted to do this for years & your video has just made me want to do it a bit more .
Many thanks ..
Gary: Glad you enjoyed the video. If it gives people a nudge to get out there and give things a go then it was worth it. I’m off again in a couple of weeks. I would really recommend the C2C. So I hope you do it.
One of the best ''coast-coast'' videos I have seen(and i've seen a lot), no drama's or over-exaggeration of the task ahead, really enjoyed the journey..........first-rate............ATB..........Stu.......👍👌

Would love a beginners guide as you mention. I will be doing this walk in early June and the longest walk I've done is an overnighter. Great video, thanks for the encouragement.
Touringolem: Thank you for watching. I really do recommend you having a go and doing this walk. You will really enjoy the experience. I’ve been a bit lazy and not done that beginners guide video but will pull my finger out and see what I can do. Thanks again.
As a meaningful account of this walk, your video can’t be bettered. Many times while watching I remembered the same feeling or recognized a place my foot had fallen and found your advice would have been helpful prior to our walk. Beautiful editing makes this very watchable. Thanks.
N L: Thank you. I’m glad my trip has evoked good memories for you. It’s a great walk as you know. I aim to do something similar in the near future. Many thanks for you comments and for watching.
This was amazing mate, start to finish. Fantastic effort. RIP to your friend. Well done mate, well done.
@adaminthewild8915 many thanks for watching and taking time to comment. It’s a while ago since this was uploaded. So I’m really pleased it’s still being watched. This trip definitely spurred me onto do more long distance walks.

Smashing video from beginning to end. I really want a go on that tractor too :). Absorbing, informative and so, so well put together. Thank you for sharing.
Warm words. Received with gratitude. Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed the content. I really enjoyed making it. More to come hopefully.
Very nice, well done and some great editing, I’ll be doing this with my daughter and I’ll definitely be stopping at some of places you stoped at along the route, cheers for the nice vid
Paul Hulley: Thank you for taking the time out to watch the video. I really recommend doing the walk. You won’t be disappointed.
Congratulation Cowboy, you completed the C2C Hike. I did my first West to East crossing in 1984, camping every night in 10 days, I returned again the following year to do it East to West also camping every night and also in 10 Days. My First Long Distance Hike was the Pennine Way (350 miles) in 15 days in the long hot summer of 1976.
Wow! A proper long distance walker! This was my first outing into that world. I have a few more planned. Maybe an easier one in the form of South Downs to wake me up and then I might give cape wrath a go. Thank you for commenting and taking the time to watch.
@@thecowboycamper1195 You could say I have a few Long Distance Hikes under my belt, after the South to North Pennine Way I did John OGroats to Lands End, then two C2C, next was the Norfolk Coastal Path, then my Longest one A Complete Circumnavigation of the UK Coastline and last year at 64 I redid the Norfolk Coastal Path again that being my nearest LDP to my Essex Homebase.
I have no words ! Truly inspirational.
@@thecowboycamper1195 Thank you its just a case of putting one foot in front of the other and enjoying the scenery, pity I didnt have a digital camera or go-pro in any of the hikes except last years Hike from Hunstanton to Great Yarmouth 9 days 180 miles approx backpacking and camping on the beaches.
That’s a crying shame as I’m sure there are loads of folk out there who would want to emulate those types of journey. This RUclips world isn’t all that bad you know lol
Another great vlog. Sorry the grumpy land owner turfed you off. Not what you need after a long walk. However, made up by your kind friend who took your pack and the lovely camper who returned your cap. Congratulations, and wise words.
Heather White: Again.. Thank you for taking time out to watch my videos. Glad you are enjoying them. The C2C was a great intro into long distance walking for me. Great weather and a great overall experience. Highly recommended.
Brilliant story my friend. A man after my own heart. Just do it, lifes too short. Done a few with a friend or 2 n done some solo. Lifes good when your out there.
Gary Thomas: I totally agree. We are our biggest enemies when it comes to just doing it. I’m trying to think less about stuff and just go and do it. Thanks for watching
Thanks so much for this, I loved every miniute. So well filmed and such a relaxing vibe and you have such a great attitude to life.

Great job, Cowboy! Congrats. And your weather was spectacular. Your video was a delight to watch, and brought back great memories of the C2C journey my wife and I experienced in 2018. Would love to do it again.
Cheers from California
Dan Williams: Thank you watching and taking time to post a comment. I truly enjoyed the experience. Glad my trip sparked some memories for you. Thank you again.
I planned to do this walk 2 years ago. A broken leg and cancer have delayed it but I will bloody do it one day.
Johnny Ramblefinely: thank you for taking time out to watch and comment. I hope you get to have a go at this when you are able.
Really enjoyed this and congrats on completing such an epic adventure! I recently decided to do some longer walks. Lining up the Mendip Way as a 'lets make sure i'm not deluding myself' tester and ultimately I hope to follow in your footsteps soon. All the best!
I did a number of ‘very’ short walks in comparison and just thought one morning…. Just do it ….. so I did! It was the covid lockdown. Non lockdown phase so I was very lucky really with regards to spots to camp and b &b retreats on route. I would suggest planning a little more than I did. But my advice remains the same. Sometimes you just don’t need to think about it. Just get it done.
Enjoyed this,brilliant 👍
Trails and Ales from Wales: Many thanks !
Really enjoyed it mate ..loved the tunes
JD Hiker: Epidemic sounds is where the music is from. There’s an extensive list to choose from. Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed it.

Well done, great effort and fantastic video, you captured some amazing scenery.
White Camel: Many thanks for watching. The scenery is fantastic and I was fortunate enough to have two weeks of absolute bliss re the weather. Can’t say the same for my south downs walk mind lol. Thanks again.
Excellent video one of best I've seen on long distance walking, I am planning on doing the Snowdonia way next year which is roughly 8 days 🤞but thanks for sharing your video 👍

Thank you for watching the video and taking the time to comment. Really appreciated. Your up and coming walk sounds really good so good luck with that!
Awesome I love this I’m planning to do the two moors way but struggle with door step mile, good luck on your travel’s
South west explorer: Thank you for watching. Totally understand the door step mile analogy. I think sometimes we can over plan things. In all honesty I didn’t plan this trip at all. I woke up one day said I’m doing this! And was out the next day. A bit of unknown is good for you. Get the two moors way done. You won’t regret it.
great video vlog really enjoyed this one. I will be tackling this adventure in the spring lets hope I get the weather you had new sub atb daz
dazbass007: Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video and that you are going to give it a go this year. Absolutely recommend you do. Also thank you for the sub. Really appreciated.
What a fantastic video Mr Cowboy!
I’ve watched many Coast to Coast films, including my own, and I have to say this is one of the best. Excellently put together and just a joy to watch.
I’m back for my second crossing in June so just checking out a few films to make sure I don’t miss anything.
Well done on completing the journey and thanks for sharing.
Pipe Hikes: very kind of you to say. Thank you for your comments and for watching. I will definitely give your channel a watch. Fair play for attempting it again. Although I can see why. I had an absolute blast. Good luck on that second attempt. I should either be on my next walk or have completed my next walk by then. Happy trails!
@@thecowboycamper1195 thank you. Yes I'd say there were a few tough times along the way, but in general I loved it. Offa's Dyke Path is another good one, though even tougher in my opinion. Best of luck for your next trail too, they get a bit addictive :)
You are correct. They are addictive. I did say after my C2C that I wasn’t going to do another. As my feet were the main complainers. However. After a week of not doing it. I decided it’s something I’m going to keep on doing.
@@thecowboycamper1195 I think I was exactly the same. C2C was my first ever multi-day trail, feet were a mess and was glad it was over but wasn’t long before I was planning the next 👍🏼
Lol. We are foolish! But it’s good for the soul.
Really enjoyed your video. Excellent editing. It would help if you kept the location captions on screen a tiny bit longer. When we have the good weather there’s no finer place to be than here in England.
Julie Brooke: glad you enjoyed the video. And thank you for the comments about the captions. I will consider that for the future. It’s always good to have feedback that will make improvements to the content. Hopefully the South Downs way walk which is now uploaded may be slightly more helpful captions wise. I’d be grateful for any comments you might have. Thank you again.
A good peace of advice at the end... So true.
Great blog I'm hoping to do the wark soon I'm just getting my kit together and waiting for that book to come out (the novice guide)
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment. It’s a great walking experience. So “get it done”
Brilliant video mate .
I'm going to give this a go next summer . Got loads of yorkshire moors to do this year .lion inn pub been there a few times back up that end this weekend doing a 60 mile hike wild camping . Love the north yorkshire moors
Carl Adams: Really happy to hear that you enjoyed my video. I would heartily suggest you give the C2C a go. Love the fact that you are out wild camping as well. I am currently as I write this walking the South Downs way so at some point I will put up some more content. Can’t promise it will be anywhere near the C2c though!
Really heart felt summary. Your idea of an idiots guide would be great from your point of view. It would be informative if you gave a review of your kit, including tent to what you wore. Well done. I'm intending to do my C2C in September.
Steve Price: Thank you for watching. I’ve been very lazy of late ( in fact over a year) and haven’t yet done that guide. I’m about to do the South Downs way in the next week or so. Might be an idea to pull my finger out and do something for that too. Happy to let you know what I took if that will help you. But what ever you take. Pack what you think you need and then halve it. Lol. Thanks again for watching.
@@thecowboycamper1195 I like the idea of half it. Have sent off for light weight tent, as recommended by Darren Curtis, which weighs a quarter of my current one. South Downs Way: Hard on the feet and if hot pack the suncream, as the sun reflects off the path. I perspired somewhat when I did it many years ago.
I think I’m due for a bit of rain when I do it so it will be wet feet! I’ve just looked at my gear and whilst it is much much less than my C2c. It still looks too much! Lol. I will stop pontificating soon and just get it done.
Really good cinematic video of your coast to coast. I did it in September 2021 and B&B’d it. I’m looking to backpack it this summer.
@DJVOutdoors . There’s no hard and fast rules in how you should do this type of walk. Fair play for looking to do it again! I’ve recently done the west highland way and the Hebridean way which were bothered epic adventures. All the best for the coming year.
Great trip well done. Im gonna have a crack at this in October.
Thank you. I landed lucky with the weather. It was absolutely gorgeous. Too hot to be fair! It’s an epic walk. Hard in places but I’m glad I did it. Strangely, it’s got me thinking about doing another long walk in the future! Not sure the feet will thank me though. Make sure you document it when you do. I will give it a watch.

I waited until the last day of trainng to reveal that. 1981 saw me back on the hiking holidays and that was my first of two C2C crossings. After that I walked with Ian Botham on his Aberdeen to Ipswich Charity Walk (1985) before doing John OGroats to Lands End 1987 followed in 1985 with the reverse route, both solo hikes. 1990 saw me once again hiking , this time the Complete Coastline of Great Brittian, non stop for 2 years. That’s quite a list of achievements! I’m not sure I could go anywhere near that. The Uk has some great hikes. I’ve got a trail book of the uk and will try and get through them all. Thanks again for watching.
Fabulous video. Hope to see it all in September. Is it necessary to take a compass & detailed maps? I've read that signposts especially in the Lakes district are few and far between.
Kay Byrnes: thank you for watching. I hope you will have the weather for it. As for detailed maps. If you get the A to Z map of the coast2coast. The route is clearly marked. I always take a map of some sort and compass. They never go wrong! I also use modern day navigation through my Earthmate app and garmin unit. The signs are about but very scarce in places as the route, whilst recognised is not an official route. Also when you get to the nine standards. The route is not very well marked or seen past the paved area.
So where are you now, bud? This was a great video! Your entire trip was a learning experience for me.
Angry Irishman: at the moment I’m not out and about. Got a few plans for this year. Just looking at creating time to get it done. Looking at doing another big walk later this year. Just haven’t decided which one I’m doing yet. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@thecowboycamper1195 I look forward to your next adventure.
Thank you.
Like you mate Top Fella !
Ray Fraser: Thank you for watching. Glad you like the content. And thank you for the sub.
That's a nice video you've put together and I loved your inspiration get it done comment at the end. I've done the C2C but it was 1992 and so this year is the 30th anniversary. So I'm considering it. I had a get it done adventure on the Spanish camino Frances, I'd had the guide book for three years and I suddenly thought, if I'm going to do it, best get off this sofa and fly out there. So I did. I had to bail at Burgos but I was happy to get that far. Left some miles to tick off another time. What's the tent that you were using?
Ian Ellis: thanks for watching and taking time to comment. I quite fancy doing a Camino in the future. The chap who had found my hat had explained the routes and it looks fascinating. The tent I have I bought specially for the C2C. ITS A Terra nova laser compact 1. All season. It’s a great tent.
What an amazing journey. Loved the video really well done. I leave on June 17 out of St. Bees. Any advice on Loft Beck, Greenup Edge and the climb out of Patterdale? I am also doing it solo but not wild camping, trying to give myself a little break.
Hi Jennifer Falagrady-Katona: Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m glad you liked the content. Good luck with your walk. I hope the weather is as good for you as it was for me. To answer your questions. Loft beck is really steep. In my view the worst climb out of the lot. Even though it’s not the longest climb. I was carrying too much weight at the time. So if you aren’t camping it might be a little easier on the joints. Green up edge, although a long climb up is well marked out path wise as I recall. It just takes time, which as a newbie to the C2C I didn’t take into consideration time wise. The climb out of patterdale is best done first thing when your energy is high. The reward is the Tarn at the top! And a great vista.
@@thecowboycamper1195 Thank you so much!! Really appreciate the tips. I suspected that loft beck would be difficult. I reckon that it is partly due to the fact it is about 9 miles into the day's journey and secondly it is a rocky beck which is just a slog. I don't know how you did it with a full pack, super strength :). I have looked to limit myself to less than 15lbs, looking more like 12 max for the essentials of mostly water, some clothes for the changing weather and a little food. My itinerary is not as aggressive as yours, but there is little I can due about some of the distances, so I will make sure I start early on the loft beck day and especially on the Kidsty Pike day. I also suspected it takes longer to get through some of these stages than we plan for. I will be staying in Grasmere as I suspect that even though Rosthwaite to Grasmere is about 9 miles it will be a tough 9 miles. I have baked in several rest days because I am not as young as you and have also considered the impact to the joints. Thank you again for all of your advice, I had to put this off in 2020 and again in 2021 both due to Covid, so ready to go this year but also being mindful to take all the advice I can get. Good luck on your next adventures and your video was really superb!
To save weight with regards to water I took a sawyer mini water filter and a reusable water bottle. There are plenty of fresh water streams on the walk except for the bit just after Orton so beware! A good compromise is the katadyn be free water filter. I have just purchased one for my next long distance walk but I haven’t used it yet but the reviews on it are really good. The most important thing though is to enjoy the experience. So take your time on it. Good luck!
Epic video, truly enjoyed that. Have you any other long distance hikes planned? Cheers
nellyrowe: It was a great experience so thanks for taking time to watch and comment. I do have some plans for later in the year. I’m just deciding which walk to do. Hopefully I will be busy this year travel wise. But we shall see.
This is by far the best walking video I have seen, well done sir. Really well produced. What editing software do you use?
Tomlinsons Cars: Really appreciate the comments. Thank you for watching. I use Final Cut Pro to edit.
Really enjoyed that TCC. Beautifully filmed and edited. When are you starting your Iceland adventure?
Hello lee. Glad you enjoyed the content. Iceland is on the cards make no mistake. Just figuring out the whys and wherefores.
Just finished this second of your videos, having watched your SDW one yesterday. Another quality watch. Random question, mate - what is the Patagonia sling bag you're using? Ta.
@seancashin6135 : glad you enjoyed the C2C vid. The sling bag is the Patagonia ultralight black hole. Not sure of the price right now. I bought it from Amazon 2yrs ago. It’s a great pouch.
@thecowboycamper1195 thank you
No problem
Wicked video, what video editing software do you use? Cheers in advance.
Nick Bruce: I use Final Cut Pro. I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination. Just trial and error. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.
Great video mate. What guide book did you use? Cheers
Hi Josh. Thanks for watching. I used two books. The coast to coast walk by Terry Marsh 1:25k (cicerone) and the A to Z coast to coast. Both really good.
@@thecowboycamper1195 thank you for the reply. Ok mate brilliant I will have a look at those. Thanks for your help
No problem. Enjoy the walk!
Brillian video. I really enjoyed it. From when you left St Bees and picked up a decent sized pebble when most people look for the smallest one possible. You seemed to really enjoy the walk and complete it fairly easily. Did you use a map and compass or online maps my friend ? Because Im considering walking the C to C and wouldnt be able to use a compass so would rely on purely a map. You did well not to get lost either as many people have done and then it just adds miles to your day.
Only unpleasant part was when the angry landowner woke you and other C to C walkers up at midnight and made you all camp somewhere else. Totally unnecessary behaviour from them. No human kindness Im sorry to say.
Other than that it looked a great walk and you clearly had a great time. Cheers for the video.
Thankyou for the tips on the walk too. They really come in handy having tips from you and other C to C walkers. Obviously it was slightly harder when you did the walk as Covid Lockdown meant lots of places were closed down. Would you consider doing the walk again as I presume that it would be an even better experience with everywhere open.
Andrew Smith: Thank you so much for watching and your kind comments. Yes I really enjoyed the experience. Especially as it was my first real solo long distance walk. I’ve got the bug now! I used the A to Z coast to coast map book which basically has the route marked out for you. I also used the cicerone books. As a back up I plotted the route on the Earth mate app linked to my Garmin in reach mini. So I was fairly well set. Regarding the late night wake up call….. it was that odd time between lock down and not lock down so I suppose I could see the reasoning behind the eviction. Just could have timed it better! I’ve been assured that it’s not always like that on the route. So don’t worry too much. Enjoy the walk if you do it. But pick a good weather window.
Andrew Smith: I would definitely consider doing it again. When I did it. I came across a number of 2nd , 3rd and fourth time arounders. I have a few more walks to do though before I do that one again.
@@thecowboycamper1195 Thankyou for your reply. You were also very brave doing the C2C as a first time long walk alone. Lots of other people go in groups so going solo is more brave as a first time long distance walk.I appreciate the tip I will definitely bring a good map. Possibly the Wainwrights Map. Definitely not a Compass as I cant understand them. I watched your other video Lickey Hills. I live near them and I have walked on the Lickey Hills and Waseley Hills many times. Have you heard of The North Worcestershire Path ? I have walked it many times. Its a mere 46 miles I believe. From near the Lickey Hills over Waseley Hills then over Clent Hills through Hagley and through Kinver and finished in Bewdley. Very picturesque indeed. Fully signposted too !!!
@@thecowboycamper1195 To come across people who have walked the C2C multiple times shows what an enjoyable experience it is. The Cleveland Way is a good walk so I hear. Well signposted and 109 miles.
I did it for the second time in September (2021) and not a drop of rain in two weeks though low cloud was a dampener on the high points.
I would love to know where you camped to get moved on, not happened to me in three decades.
Mike Breen: As I can remember it was somewhere along Stonethwaite beck. It wasn’t a great drama as if you remember it was that space in the covid regs where you could travel but there was a lot of unease and also most of the camping sites were closed. So it was totally understandable. I could have just done with being moved on a little earlier than 2355hrs though! Lol. Great effort you doing it for a second time! Thanks for watching.
@@thecowboycamper1195 I suppose there will have been some jumpy people around, but who comes out to check for campers at midnight?
Anyway, I only ever camp where there is definitely nobody going to bother me. I'm either legally set up or I am out the way where nobody will see me or somewhere where people clearly don't care or mind.
Are you planning a new hike this year? Any idea where yet? I can't decide where for the big one this year, possibly Spain as the UK is horribly crowded as people stay home to avoid the complications of flying in our covid world.
Anyway, happy trails my friend!
Mike Breen: I suppose there were a lot of variables. I was set up out of the way and on my own. But it was my first time out in years I suppose. And I followed the rules. Set up late to get gone early. Maybe the land owner just got tired of people on the land? Anyhow, I didn’t have a problem at any other point in my trip. With regards to a walk this year. I’m stuck between doing one down south or something like cape wrath. I’m keen to try a Spanish walk. I spoke about that with the chap who had recovered my hat on the video. Definitely something to consider.
@@thecowboycamper1195 Beware Spain...I went out last year to spend two week trying to follow the circuit Andalusia but ended up further east.
I got back three months later(!) and with a few grey hairs. Some truly frightening walking in places, especially essentially climbing a cliff with a backpack which was genuinely frightening.
Then getting into a ravine in the Sierra Nevada where I could not find my way out or find my way back and no trail, no walk.
In fact I was frightened several times.
Looking forward to going back, but no way am I doing that climb again.
No I did not get lost for three months, I just kept putting off my return for various reasons. My navigations skills are not that bad. 🙂
Thanks for the warning. I think I need a few more uk long walks first!
Well done...Great video..
Allan Cunningham: Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.
