You are so right about the mask. It has a short, child's nose and friendly eyebrows. It is too smooth as well. I agree with you about Daniel Harris. She was such a fantastic child actress. It seems that she became self conscious with age. She was exceptionally good in this. I really enjoy watching this one - don't care what the critics say.

The only part of Halloween 4 that bugs me is that stupid mask. Like you said Cody, the thing that irritates the F outta me is the inconsistency with Michael's mask. Love the franchise but damn it would be so much better if they would get the mask's right. Dr. Loomis has a lot of great lines in Halloween 4!
It's a shame Ellie Cornell didn't become a big star. She is a very talented actress and I think she gave the best performance of anybody in the film. I was furious when they killed her off in the first 15 minutes of Halloween V.
That mask ranges from looking worried to slightly startled. Loomis's facial scars also look different in practically every scene. His final scene is great though...he gives the impression of a man who's given over to total despair. He really feels broken.
My theory is this: we all love the MM mask for the spooky absence of any features or emotions, right? Still the first one was still a little weathered n evil-looking. That mask is so bad that they used the original mask from the first movie for the cover on the dvd. Well actually if ya took the "4" out of the title and saw it in the shop you'd think it was the original Halloween movie cause every image is from the first movie! LAAAAAZY!
What's really funny about cutting out Kelly's nude scenes, Kathleen Kinmont the actress, is no stranger to nudity. Fraternity Vacation, Sweet Justice, Bride of Re-Animator, Rush Week, The Art of Dying, Night of the Warrior, C.I.A. Code Name: Alexa, The Corporate Ladder, and Dead of Night all have nude scenes with her.
I love Halloween 4. George P Wilbur was great as Michael (the fourth best Michael Myers) Danielle Harris was adorable as Jamie and Donald Pleasence's Dr. Loomis was awesome! The only thing that i hate about H4, is the mask.
Cody Leach True. Poor Ben Tramer. The mask shouldn’t have been so brightly colored. It makes it look very silly. I’m not a fan of this sequel but I really like the atmosphere at the beginning title sequence with the fields and Halloween decorations. It feels like fall. Keep up the great reviews Cody! 👍👍
Excellent review Mr. Leach, I totally agree with you on the mask. From the "making of" the costume designer said the masks were ordered from Don Post Studios who made the original Shatner mask but they came in the day of shooting with peach/pink skin and blonde/white hair. It was then spray painted white hence the loss of definition and bumpy texture.
I do remember something about an argument with the suits over the mask. They wanted a guy to 'open up the eyes more,' and fired him when he refused. Fangoria was there doing an article and pressured the suits to rehire the guy. They did end up firing the original Myers actor, although he's still in the film at the beginning when he's still wearing bandages.
Im pretty sure the blond mask made it in due to reshoots and selections of an unpainted mask. But i didnt know this was the original shatner mask. Thats even fucking worse
I love Halloween 4 The Return Of Michael Myers!!! It's one of my favorite sequels in the franchise!! It is such a great horror movie! I watch it every year on halloween
Halloween 4 is probably my favorite film in the franchise, for a lot of reasons. I agree with you, Cody, that the characters in this one are more enjoyable and that Dr. Loomis has more zeal in this one than in any of the other ones. And hell yeah, the kills are the shit-- the paramedic who gets Michael's thumb jammed into his forehead; the city worker who gets thrown into the transformer; Kelly getting impaled with a fucking shotgun; Grady getting his skull crushed... good shit. Plus, I had the luxury of seeing this movie when it first hit video, so yes, the ending freaked me out. I disagree, however, about the mask. Call me crazy but I actually don't mind the look of the mask in this one. I don't think it was meant to look exactly like the so-called Shattner mask from the previous films. I think they made it different on purpose (this time), because Michael had to get a new mask sense his old one burned up in part 2, and what are the odds that he would just randomly pick one that looked exactly the same? But all that aside, I enjoyed your review as usual, and I'm glad that you got to enjoy this movie, even if it's just a little bit. Keep em coming, homeboy.
I mean it's not the greatest of endings. If we pretend that there wasn't a 5th this ending is gold. The issue is we know there's a 5th and it takes away that great end feel. This ending though is better than 5th, 6th, and certainly Resurrection.
I’ve always liked the mask and I’ve never understood the hate for it. The Shape himself is portrayed excellently close to how he was in the original albeit more aggressive, and he stole a new mask from (presumably) the same discount store in town. At least the filmmakers aren’t expecting the audience to believe that it’s the same mask from the previous installment, like Halloween 5 and even the producers cut of Halloween 6 did. Halloween 4 actually addresses that it’s just another simple cheap expressionless mask he stole and for me it’s just always fit the vibe of the film.
This was a good movie, the one thing that bugged me was how poor the mask was, the cover art mask was 10 times better for some reason. I wrote this before reaching the same conclusion you did haha
I love Halloween IV I didn’t see it til many years after. But when I did I loved it. Sure it’s got some flaws but what sequel hasn’t? It’s got so much great stuff and a hell of a Halloween atmosphere. The mask didn’t ever really bother me tbh. It’s a damn site better than the mask we get in the next one.
Love Halloween 4. It's always been my favorite sequel. It's not the first Halloween I saw but it is the first one I saw in the theater, opening weekend. The ending gave me legit chills. Man, it was a blast.
Come on she is great Daniel Harris grew up to be a hottie. She should of been laurie in the Rob Zombie's one instead of the friend. So she had a great early start, great kid performance. Too bad but she could still go, hope she gets a cameo in the new one.
She apparently wanted a role in the new film but they weren't interested. Now whether that's true or not or they just said it to hide the fact that she cameos in it somewhere I don't know. Her as Annie and Brad Dourif as Brackett are the only 2 good performances in Rob Zombie's Halloween films IMO.
Slasher In Suits one of those things I had a crush on her as a kid since we’re the same age. I look her up now & I’m like DAMN she went from cute to Hot as hell!
I feel like the reason the mask is so frustrating is because Halloween 4 had the potential to be great on every level. To me, the H4 mask looks overly polished, even the hair. The mask in the original Halloween is kinda dingy with messy hair. It looked like an accurate portrayal of what was underneath; a blank, mentally unhinged and/or supernatural killer. Having said that, this is still my favorite sequel. Great review!
That mask is the best! I dont understand the hate. Its completely emotionless and expressionless. Makes michael more of a force of nature and less of a person. Ive always been more frightened by this mask than any of them. Guess im the only one
21:40 dude...finally someone else says it. Pisses me off to this day that we didnt get the Kelly goodies 😂 and the Loomos cut afterward is EXACTLY how we all feel 😂
I LOVE this movie. But not only is the mask in this HORRENDOUS, those shoulder pads as well are BADDD! This would've been amazing with the original mask, cause honestly the mask is my only flaw with this sequel. Great reviews Cody!
Loving these Halloween franchise reviews Cody your smashing it bro, you have the charm & likeability that makes for great entertaining reviews & you obviously put a lot of time & effort into producing excellent content. The postman delivers another first class video. Considering Loomis & Myers blown to smithereens they ain't looking too shabby, Michael must have excellent healing skin because those flames were burning right through his mask in Halloween 2.
I have to agree. Even when i first saw Halloween 5.. You just fu*king knew Rachel was probably not gonna make through another film. It's a slasher franchise, and the Child was definitely the main character in the late 80's era.
Great review. Nice to see someone reviewing it without the nostalgic attachment or from a big Halloween fans perspective. This is one of the only decent sequels. I think it could have been a lot better with the original mask! That definitely would have made it a lot better for me...however it does separate it from the first one if u choose to ignore the sequels and would rather believe that they aren’t apart of the storyline.
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with this installment. Loved the portrayals of Loomis, Jamie Lloyd, and even (to a certain extent) Michael Myers, himself. Also, this is the most atmospheric of the sequels. But I HATE The Shape’s mask, the music, and the introduction of Rachel’s character only to have her killed off so unceremoniously. I still prefer this one to Halloween 5, and the later films.
Cody from the moment of Kelly Meekers first introduction i knew that this being a Halloween movie that my little 12 year old self wouldn't be let down . Let me just say the Loomis reaction you showed was probably right on par with what my actual kid reaction was. For years i thought i was the only one but now i know there are several more people who were disappointed too😂😂😂. Great review man you've really went above and beyond in this Halloween review series. Your negatives of all these movies have been mine as well .Even though i saw this as a kid it took me awhile to fully appreciate this movie. Just a big thanks Cody you've outdone yourself on these.
damn bro, i like my reviews i think my reviews are better than 90% of ppls on youtube in the horror community but when i watch yours it makes me remember where i want to be. you have such a smooth delivery. great review man i love this movie and it is definitly one of the best in the series.i do have to say that George P Wilber does probably the best myers since castle maybe even better but castle was the template that is why he is so revered. Michael was always smart thats one of the reason i loved him so much he was not just a mindless idiot like jason.
I saw this movie when it first came out at the theater. I was so disappointed in it. My main thing was that mask!! And he looked like he had football padding under his suit. But I still watched it every year because I love Michael. Tried to watch it again just a few weeks ago with an open mind and I still hate the mask and those damned pads BUT I have to say I really enjoyed it this time around. It is saturated with Fall and I think Danielle Harris was great in it. Oh and I said on your review of Scream 4 that is was my least favorite but I would give it another try because so many people love it so much. I have to say, I really enjoyed it!! It is a really solid movie. Don't know if my ranking of the franchise changed BUT I don't hate it now. :)
Now i understand what you meant him beeing a robot! Like staying in the shadow, beeing a bit humanized (in movement), and planing things, not going into one direction and smashing every "wall" that stands in his way!
Although this mask was a recast of the William Shatner mask used in the '70s, they did do some modifications like raising the eyebrows higher which ruined it.
The only thing I don't like is the poor mask and the non explanation as to how Michael got his eyes back after laurie shot them out and why his burns aren't more severe. He should be a charred corpse.
@@craigharris9185 yeah it's just ignored. He should look like a blind freddy krueger. Glad the new one has just gone fuck it. The only film that counts is the first one.
Wesley Crawford yeah that’s why I’m so glad they just made a sequel to the original. Carpenter deliberately made the end of Halloween 2 definitive and sequel proof but the other filmmakers just decided to insult the audiences intelligence and ignore his shot out eyes and incineration. The end of the original is a much better point to follow up. Sure he got shot multiple times but audiences were always on board with Myers still living because of that great ending where he disappears. It’s a lot harder to get on board accepting Myers coming back from the end of part 2.
Halloween IV was the first I ever saw as a kid. When I saw Jamie with the bloody knife in her hands, I COULDN’T WAIT to get to V. I never got the chance as my parents didn’t want to buy PPV & got rid of premium channels. I recently bought the box set so I FINALLY get to see the fifth of the series.
22:13 LOL btw why didn’t you like the cop at the beginning I thought it was kind of cool they talked about what happened in Halloween and Halloween 2...
This is my favorite HALLOWEEN movie. Everything about it. The fog, the opening sequence (sense of dread building up to the tension) the deep crispy blue night lighting. The mask scares me shitless even to this day. People complain about it, but I think it's just as chilling as the original 2. Albeit I was just a kid when I first watched this. Sticks with me though. The chase sequences are the best in the entire series. That roof top sequence, the truck sequence. Alan B McElroy and Dwight H Little created magic that still is yet to be matched to this day in the series. And Rachel is my favorite final girl.
Pretty good review Cody. I will say this I watched the original when I was 8 years old, I was actually told it was a true story LOL. But part 4 was the first one that I had saw in theaters. Some things it really helps to live the moment and to be shocked by the horror of the movie especially the very chilling ending. It's just like Kiss is my favorite rock and roll band. I saw the original band in 1996 but I did not get to experience the band in the 70s. I can watch all of the pro shot concerts from back in the day that I want to. But I am not going to have the thought process of someone who experienced the band in their heyday. I'm just kind of using my age with the point of not seeing kiss in the 70s as a simularity of your age and not seeing Halloween 4 in theaters when it came out. But you did touch on that in your review. I hope I'm making some sense LOL. I just recently started watching your reviews and you are doing a great job keep it up big guy!
Halloween, Halloween II, and Halloween IV make the perfect trilogy. Evil never dies.

That mask is so bad that they used the original mask from the first movie for the cover on the dvd. Well actually if ya took the "4" out of the title and saw it in the shop you'd think it was the original Halloween movie cause every image is from the first movie! LAAAAAZY!
His shoulders was weird as well lol
The theatrical poster in 1988 for this movie was the same as the later VHS/DVD/BLU-RAY covers
Yeah seriously what the fuck
I love Halloween 4. George P Wilbur was great as Michael (the fourth best Michael Myers) Danielle Harris was adorable as Jamie and Donald Pleasence's Dr. Loomis was awesome! The only thing that i hate about H4, is the mask.
Thanks for helping us all get in the mood for Oct. 19th Cody
I love the opening to Halloween 4. Really captures Halloween. From the scarecrow to the leaves and winds. My favorite opening in all the series.
One thing that bugged me was that a store in Haddonfield was selling a Michael Meyers type mask.
Yeah in the Halloween universe that mask is a common mask. Hence all the people wearing them.
Michael looked awesome in Halloween 4 with the burn tracks on his hands
Excellent review Mr. Leach, I totally agree with you on the mask. From the "making of" the costume designer said the masks were ordered from Don Post Studios who made the original Shatner mask but they came in the day of shooting with peach/pink skin and blonde/white hair. It was then spray painted white hence the loss of definition and bumpy texture.
Apparently they did shoot nudity in THAT scene but for whatever reason they decided to cut it out, like WTF!?
Haha bastards!!!
This is my second favorite. The characters are great and the Michael Myers was great. I actually like the H4 mask as well
Im pretty sure the blond mask made it in due to reshoots and selections of an unpainted mask. But i didnt know this was the original shatner mask. Thats even fucking worse
My Dad took me to see this in '88... wow I'm old.
Quality video. You're one of the few who agree with me on Zombies H2.
Am I the only one who likes the ending??
Lol no...fans love that ending
@@CodyLeachYT
Really? I heard a lot of people hate that ending. I guess I haven't been keeping up
I mean it's not the greatest of endings. If we pretend that there wasn't a 5th this ending is gold. The issue is we know there's a 5th and it takes away that great end feel. This ending though is better than 5th, 6th, and certainly Resurrection.
Diego Larios I flippin loved that ending!
I think it's best ending in any Halloween film ever made
I always wondered what it'd be like if they followed through with Jamie Lloyd becoming the next killer. Same with Laurie in the Rob Zombie movies.
Wouldve been just as much crying as fans did with Halloween 3
Ha, good point, especially since it looks like Cult of Chucky is going a similar direction.
I got a RUclips ad right as she took her top off 22:10. As if to underline your point.
My favorite Halloween sequel!
Watching “Dream Warriors” and this review at the same time lol
Wow what a package
Halloween 4 The Return of Michal Myers is definitely my personal favorite horror- slasher sequel of all time.
Childs play 2
Mine too
Hell yeah, brother.
If the mask was the the same from the original would this be your favorite sequel?
It would be higher up the list but no
21:28 - Yeah, have to agree with that one. She was quite a tease. ^_^
M Da Martian fucking right you can never tell with child actors but she grew up hot as hell for sure.
I always thought they missed an opportunity to tie 3 into the Thorn trilogy
Yeah I could see it working
That mask is the best! I dont understand the hate. Its completely emotionless and expressionless. Makes michael more of a force of nature and less of a person. Ive always been more frightened by this mask than any of them. Guess im the only one
No I'm with you
I'm with you! My biggest flaw in this movie by far is This Mask? its 3rd favorite entry in the series....
As much as I Love the ending of Halloween 4, I think that, that's the one that really made Michael supernatural.
Getting close to October made me come back and watch your Halloween movie reviews and really like your opening scenes with "Dr. Leemis" 😂
Thank you
@@CodyLeachYT I can't wait to see your review on Halloween 6, are you doing a review on both Theatrical & Producers cuts?
To be honest Jamie is much better than Rachel. So I didn't care that Rachel was killed off early in 5. Jamie is the star in 4 and 5. Not Rachel.
@Allahja Flowers the reason for Michael's return because he overheard that he has a niece. And the niece was Jamie. Not Rachel.
@Allahja Flowers oh okay.
I have to agree. Even when i first saw Halloween 5.. You just fu*king knew Rachel was probably not gonna make through another film. It's a slasher franchise, and the Child was definitely the main character in the late 80's era.
LilStory 504 Randy from Scream 2
Rachel's my favorite.
I love this channel cody, the quality is truly great. I enjoy the little story snippets you are making for the intros
Thank you
@@CodyLeachYT I truly enjoy ur reviews let alone ur channel, been watching u for 3 yrs already and hope I meet u one day.
Damn the producers of Halloween 4 they lied to us on the poster was the real mask but instead they gave use a dollar store cheap mask.
The music certainly isn't the problem. I love all of Howarth's scores.
Thanks a lot man. Alot of hard work for sure!
damn bro, i like my reviews i think my reviews are better than 90% of ppls on youtube in the horror community but when i watch yours it makes me remember where i want to be. you have such a smooth delivery. great review man i love this movie and it is definitly one of the best in the series.i do have to say that George P Wilber does probably the best myers since castle maybe even better but castle was the template that is why he is so revered.
Ya mask sucked and the shoulder pads lol wtf
Now i understand what you meant him beeing a robot! Like staying in the shadow, beeing a bit humanized (in movement), and planing things, not going into one direction and smashing every "wall" that stands in his way!
Although this mask was a recast of the William Shatner mask used in the '70s, they did do some modifications like raising the eyebrows higher which ruined it.
The only thing I don't like is the poor mask and the non explanation as to how Michael got his eyes back after laurie shot them out and why his burns aren't more severe. He should be a charred corpse.
Wesley Crawford yeah it’s kind of annoying that they just pretend he didn’t get his eyes shot out. H20 ignores it too
@@craigharris9185 yeah it's just ignored.
Well 20 years did pass. So the mask in stores would change?
Nah...you cant use logic to excuse shitty costume production
@@CodyLeachYT I agree with most of what you mentioned. But the mask and jumpsuit never botherd me.
“Halloween 4” is returning to theaters this October 2020 . It would be good to see on big screen. Not sure how many days it will be playing.
D J holy shit really that will be good
I like these short films you do at the beginning to introduce the movie review.
*22:09**-**22:13* I laughed so hard. 😂
Started gut busting laughing at the Loomis cutaway at the lack of nudity con.
Great review!!! This is one of the better sequels of the series and yeah i agree that mask is pretty rough...
I hated the mask also, and the portrayal was a little to stiff for me . I also wish the score was recycled better.
Agree on the many flaws but this remains my 2nd favorite in the sequal franchise after the original Halloween 2
22:13 LOL btw why didn’t you like the cop at the beginning I thought it was kind of cool they talked about what happened in Halloween and Halloween 2...
It was just the delivery it just seemed so hokey to me.
The nudity cutaway clip with loomis, hahaha😂
What's so weird about this one is that the mask in h4 was actually a Kirk mask from Halloween just not modified
Great review cody, this is of the best sequels in halloween and also one my favorite's
