Didnt expect you to do a show on Christmas, but that's a pleasant surprise so I have something to watch while Im off work! Thank you and merry Christmas, everyone!
Hey John, merry Christmas. I’m sorry I didn’t send you a super chat because I don’t have enough money. But you and your crew have been wonderful friends and you gave us great moments. So, thank you for everything.
Regarding the question about if Shazam is a Christmas movie, I'd disagree with you John. I'd day it is a Christmas movie because a major theme of the movie is found family and Billy wanting to find his mom for Christmas until he learns she deliberately didn't look for him after he webt missing.
With regards to adaptations of THE ODYSSEY, the OG cartoon series of DUCK TALES did a banger! “Pennies, nickels, quarters, dimes, Come to us while there’s still time.”
Talking directors with lots of range and diverse directing styles....imo- Guy Ritchie is one of the best. He does have a signature style and If he chooses to employ it, u can definitely tell BUT, he's also shown he can do literally any genere. Just check his filmography. Dudes done it all.
I like him in Spider-Man okay but I've never been impressed by him. Whenever I hear and he is going to be in a movie I'm always just hoping he's not the lead. As much as they try to make it happen, he's not varsity material.
@Ronin2.00 His acting in The Impossible is fantastic, and although his recent movies have not been great, due to Directing, or subject matter, his acting has always been praised by critics.
I'm going to say this right now and everybody please remember my name Miss marvel is going to be the new jubilee for the MCU as far as Marvel's to introduce us to them
Hearing about War of the Rohirrim existing solely to keep the rights makes me wonder if that was exactly the same thing with Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Think about it, The Crooked Man comes out 5 years after David Harbour’s Hellboy with an extremely low budget, a limited release in theaters and an almost nonexistant marketing campaign. Clearly, the people behind The Crooked Man didn’t care about the movie making money; they just made the film to keep the Hellboy rights.
So Hellboy has had some hard times rights wise. After Universal's The Golden Army (2008), Lionsgate got the rights to it in 2009. 11 years later they released David Harbour's Hellboy (2019) then the Independent Studio Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights in 2023 and then released The Crooked Man (2024). So every studio has had a really negative success with it. Golden Army made 168 million on 85 million budget total, it didn't lose money but I'm guessing Universal saw it as a bother to keep the rights when average movie goers don't care too much about it. Lionsgate made 55 million on a 50 million budget so that really went nowhere. So it's been passed around like a girl at a frat party for the last 15 years sadly. (Ketchup made 2 million on a 20 million budget. YIKES)
I am one of those people that only heard about the animated LOTR movie from your show, I'm not a LOTR fan I'm in the bunch that has seen the live action movies and that's as far as it goes I could never really get into the universe it was a little too much for me but I always respected it because without it some of my favorite things like warcraft probably wouldn't be here today, however I decided after hearing all of you talk about it I decided to go see the animated movie at my local theater and it was pretty dead inside but I really enjoyed the movie as someone who doesn't know a lot about the universe because it was so character focused and sure some names I would understand more if I understood more about he mythos but it didn't feel like I needed any outside knowledge to understand what was going on and it kind of makes me sad that this had next to no marketing which is why a lot of people probably didn't even know about this movie because I would love to see more like this from the LOTR universe in the future
Some more possibilities for the Young-avengers: antgirl, Shuri as BP, Riri williams as Irongirl and America Chavez. But I don't think they will do an all girl's team for a Young Avengers project.
@@juanluismendoza8655Eh, they'll throw in somebody even if they're known as someone else's rogue(s). Heck, *Ironheart* is clashing with Hood. I don't see Shuri being included in that line up at all, and chances are this could be a streaming project instead of film. I think if they plan to position then for the big screen they'll have some of them appear again as supporting characters in others' films and hopefully get interest going that way.
Thanks John, for doing a show on Xmas eve! This movie is a weird choice for Nolan and I'm sure will be very expensive. Hope it'll be great. Tom Holland and Zendaya tho..... Both of them are kinda the same in every movie. I know ppl love him as Spider-Man but he's not a good actor. He got so many chances to prove himself but so far hadn't accomplished much besides Spider-Man movies .
not gonna lie, the way the internet and the film community has decided to hate Tom Holland makes me want to root for him like he's the underdog here 😂 It's kinda wild people have more shade and issues with him than hollywood dudes with actual allegations and shit lol
21:54 I assume becsuse its the TV head speaking about her that he's referring to streaming series plans. If so, her and Kate Bishop leading Wiccan, Speed, Patriot, Stature (Cassie Lang), America Chavez and Skaar could be interesting. The interest doesn't have to preexist beyond Kamala and Kate (plus Billy's got his fans after AAA) for it to have appeal though, we just need to see if they present a threat well in promotion and give us fun/tense dynamics for the characters interactions.
I don’t know what is it with your unnecessary shots at Tom Holland. He’s a solid actor when given great material. You’re the same guy who repeatedly praises sucks off Henry Cavill who is one of the worst actors working today. The guy plays the same monotone dull character in every movie/series he is. At least give the same energy to others.
I’m not excited about a young avengers movie but no one knew anything about Guardians prior to the movie. You get the right director, cast and story and it could work. Easier said than done. But I wouldn’t call it young avengers.
Bring back the Miss marvel TV show! I want more of her family and community.... She works really well in that format. Unfortunately... Her and her family were the only high points in the marvels. I don't really blame the other actors... that script was pretty scary bad.
This is the 2nd video I’ve seen you taking a cheap shot at Tom Holland. I don’t know what beef you have with a dude half your age but it’s kinda weird.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I personally don't think Nolan is the right director to adapt the Odyssey. I think he's just too cold and emotionally distant of a director to make that story work. He also tends to prefer stories rooted in grounded realism which is not really appropriate for a story like the Odyssey that is filled with gods, monsters and other fantastical elements. If it was announced that late 90s, early 00s Peter Jackson was making this, then I would be excited. To me personally, nothing will beat the 1997 mini-series with Armand Assante. It's also great that Assante, thanks to being of partial Italian descent, actually looks like a Greek person. As someone who has both Italian and Greek heritage, that makes me appreciate it a little more.
All completely fair. I also wouldn't rule out this would be a futuristic adaptation of the Odyssey with advanced alien tech or something filling in for Greek god involvement. It'll be interesting to see if it is set in ancient Greece and he brings the emotional and fantastical into it though.
I never thought about him that way before, but I kind of see what you're saying. I can see that story working in a grounded way, but obviously there has to be some kind of supernatural aspect involved. My favourite movie of his is the Prestige, though, and that definitely had a supernatural twist (albeit pretending to be science in context of the film), so that gives me some confidence for this!
@@Phelie315 How do you do a cyclops in a grounded way? The Odyssey is like the ultimate fantasy adventure story, up there with LOTR. Embrace the fantasy instead of trying to shun it out of embarassment. That's why I said that i would be excited if Peter Jackson was making this, at least back when he was making LOTR. He embraces the fantasy full-on and is completely sincere about it. He never winks to the audience like ''I know this looks completely silly but just go with it'' a la Marvel. No, he takes it completely and emotionally seriously.
Let this silence the “epic fantasy should be in animation” crowd once and for all. Especially for Stormlight Archive. I like animation and I like War of the Robirrim, but these things need to be live action.

There's a 1997 2 part version of the Odyssey that's pretty faithful to the epic poem with Armand Assante
Graduated HS in 2020 and I had to read the Odyssey. Finding out that a lot of people haven’t though lol

Quite a cheap, unnecessary shot at Tom Holland. He has won awards too.

It’s just an award, it doesn’t mean a thing!
Somehow, as the guy who is dating Zendaya and is a world-famous actor, he’ll probably get over it
He’s a mediocre actor, but I like him.
Nolan doing Odyssey is wild, I just hope it’s not Holland playing Odysseus.
I wish he’d get more Mediterranean ethnic actors and actresses though.
It’s Matt damon. Tom is too young has odysseus
@alexhein6386. Hmm I don’t know if that’s worse. I like Matt Damon, but he is very…American.
Hahaha, Nolan looks in the mirror for casting inspiration most of the time.
Thanks for making my Christmas DoorDash day much more enjoyable John! Merry Christmas to you all!!
The Odyssey was done as a miniseries in the 90s starring Armand Asante and it’s on Prime
