I had the same thought that Buehler would be a good fit for the Red Sox, but I had not considered his pitch arsenal. Simply having colder weather in Boston could allow his movement to be closer to his 2024 postseason performances in New York.
@@piratessuckattrading4828i agree, it's rare. Makes the 2017 dodgers who had 126 out of 162 starts go to lefties, stand out. In fact from 2016-2018 they had a majority of LHP starters.
@@piratessuckattrading4828at the same time, the dodgers won the ws this year with only righties. As long as the delivery and shape is different and the stuff is there, it should be fine
True! Meant that more as like "their 3 best pitchers are LHPs." If they get Fried, they'll like split up their arms. But I think the same question still applies as to whether seeing that unique cut shapes twice in 3 days helps or hurts.
great video! love the mix of visuals, statistics, and analysis! hope to see some more signings soon. that shota imanaga pronunciation is kind of egregious though, it's not eh-MAH-nuh-guh, it's more ee-muh-NAH-guh, with an emphasis on the "nah" not the "ma" part of his last name.

I don’t see any team giving a ‘big bag’ multi-year contract to Buehler. Too many unknowns. If it’s just a (1) year, second year club option deal, why wouldn’t he re-sign with the Dodgers?
Fantasy guys have talked about Griffin Canning being near the top of the league in swinging strike rate. I think that’s what it was anyway. Please break down how he will be an ace for the Braves.
Canning was like 55th in swinging-strike rate, so I'm unsure where you got that nugget? He's gonna probably lean into the sweeper he flashed at the end of last season with the Angels. Throw less 4S, secondary command there is strong. Likely not an ace, but if he's a league average to above-league average pitcher (4-4.3 ERA) I think they'll take that.
This video really has made me curious about what the Tigers secret sauce was this season. I know our fanbase considers our pitching coach a wizard, but what was it they were seeing in these minor league guys who were statistically playing average at best and ungodly in the majors? How does this affect free agents they either move on from or acquire?
They have some smart people in their org, Fetter is great but it’s not just him. Robin Lund the asst pitching coach is super sharp. I think Harris just knows how to hire and that’s converted into having a great integration of biomech and pitch development. I expect them to be a clear top half pitching org team for a while. They’re kinda like BAL, where I don’t think there’s *one* specific thing they do amazing (like LAD/CLE with velo, TB with hard sliders and pitch design, etc) but they do a lot really well.
Yeah! Could be for sure. Or at least, they give him less money from the angle of "hey, this is all we have, if you want to come here, you gotta take a pay cut relative to the field." Sasaki isn't going to cost much and they're already talking 6-man.
Idk how that would matter. Firstly Sasaki would get a minor league contract no more than 7 million but more likely 2.5 mil. So it's not going to affect payroll. Dodgers are going to go to a 6 man rotation with Ohtani coming back next year. So it won't affect it in a way from the standpoint of having too many pitchers. Dodgers had like 7 starter pitchers on the IL so they tend to overload on starting pitching anyway.
I think it's fascinating for a sport that uses a ton of analytics that no one's really thought to use analytics to determine what teams players go to during free agency it's a good video
I don't think that's a Cub's philosophy as much as it is a Breslow philosophy, as all the points you're making here about fast balls with break and sweepers have made it's way to Boston. Boston's rotation is also full of righties, so it makes sense that Boston is going to be looking for at least one lefty option.
In a way, sure. But I think that when Breslow left they didn’t just scrap everything he believed in. His imprints are still on the org. Breslow and Bailey are throwing so few 4S with BOS and CHC still throw a good amount through the minors. So I’d almost argue, in a way, perhaps Breslow brought some ideas and Bailey brought others.
do you think the nationals should make a big fa pitching signing or trade for someone this off-season, or should they just use their home grown guys as a full rotation , example (gore, Irvin, Parker, herz, cavalli/williams if they resign or someone else
I don't think this is the year for them to add a big SP, I think they're another year or so off. But would be great for Gore, Herz to have big seasons. Gore in particular. Bieber would be kind of fun for them? Because you could be cautious with him this year, incentive-based contract, and then kind of unleash him in 2026?
@@LanceBroz I personally believe herz is severally underrated, I think he can be a huge part of our future pitching core, I don’t know why people don’t talk about him? Am I crazy for loving his upside and what he showed this year?
uhhh....no. Fried just had dinner with half the Dodgers roster, and he's from SoCal, so that's where he's going. Buehler has also made it quite clear he wants to stay in LA, so Dodgers sign both.
Kinda seems to me like everybody is just assuming the Dodgers get all these SPs (Fried, Sasaki, Buehler, etc). And that just seems unlikely to me. My impression of the Cubs is that they’d spend in mid tier market (Eovaldi, Kikuchi, etc) or through trade. So while I think they’d be a fit, I bet another team offers more.
@@LanceBroz Even without Pivetta, they'd still have Houck, Bello, Crawford, and a returning Giolito. I don't know if they'd be willing to spend big for two more starters.
I think it's likely he'll end up back in LA but it's not a 100% certainty. With no QO attached, I would bet LA has leverage to not offer him what other teams would. So it's a matter of whether he'd take less money and how much less imo. I'd say 80% he's back with LA, 20% he's gone. This was more an exercise to point out Boston's fastball philosophy and how he'd fit in.
Yeah, good point! Feels like Bieber will get a pretty heavy incentive-based contract. I'm pretty bullish on him, I liked his changes in the small sample before his TJ
This guy is underrated big time ! Mlb shows should give him a call

Fantastic breakdown. I love that you didn’t just base it on the hot stove talks

If you're worried about similar shape in back to back starters, why not pitch Shota in between Steele and Fried starts?
Teams don’t often like 3 lefty’s in a row

If I hear correctly, cold weather affecting Buehler, then maybe Boston, or teams affected by cold weather is a good fit.

Yeah, curious to see how aggressive they are with his IP in 2025 given his injuries.
I don't know how you can trick with to many similar types pitchers.
Whether the dodgers give buehler a multi year contract is probably more sasaki based, don’t you think?

Flaherty re-signing with the Dodgers is highly unlikely if they land Sasaki.

Cub will not spend the required money for either Fried and Buehler. Fried want to go to west coast (ie Dodgers)
Cubs are the favorite in betting markets right now.
Dodgers can’t have all the free agents! That’s not how it works 😂
Walker you are a Detroit Tiger 😏😏😏.
Won't the sox get lucas giolito back? I think they may be hoping for him rather than buehler.
Giolito replaces Pivetta (assuming Pivetta doesn’t take the QO) and they’d still have an open spot
Fried or Manea to Baltimore!
I could see that. LF plays so deep there they’d both be great fits
If Willy goes to y'all I STG
I don't think the Red Sox are going to be able to sell Walker Buehler to fans as their big off-season pitching addition.

Maybe Fried + Buehler? That would do it.
