Do not upgrade to the new Sony a7iv firmware (either V1.05 or V1.10) yet before getting the official new go ahead from Sony. This was just released a day ago and it is already causing glitches and a lot issues to other users.

Already updated and don’t have a problem so far everything working better even the heating problem while just dialing in settings has stopped. The camera stays cooler now while I am just changing settings. I have no issues so fare so good

@@MarioSoMedia i definitely will i have to also say that i followed the steps accordingly on a FULL BATTERY and i didnt change any settings in camera before i updated. it was all on raw format

@@Malallah I literally went on the site by coincidence on the day the update came out no one had a RUclips video about it so I just did it and I love this update. Can only get better
I did mine the same day it came out and was in London yesterday 27th August not had i problem with anything on my A7iv working fine

Thanks for the video and all the info. One thing I could not find anywhere is what happens to my custom menu and buttons after the update. I lose all my custom settings or it is still there?
Great question. All your custom settings should be there. Mine have been kept the same without having to do anything extra.

@@pratheesh829 yes that's a common issue. You have to update the firmware on the lens.
I think latest one already in lens so plan to vist service center beacause warranty remains..

Which firmware did you have before updating? Was your battery fully charged?

IS it True they finally made medium raw option???? I have been asking for that for over 10 years just like my Canon 5DR had. Did they really finally give us that option on the A7IV swell? I saw the A1 got it the other day and was stoked!!
Yup M and S Raw sizes are available now.
@@MarioSoMedia i wish they do that on the uncompress raw though. have you notice a difference in quality of the uncompressed and lossless compressed raw?

After the update my Ritz Gear v90 card is not recognized as a v90 anymore. So there still seem to be some issues. I'm wondering if anyone else is having similar symptoms.

Yeah so far I haven't had any issues at all. It "seems" to be improved.
Just updated to 1.10 BUT anyone notice this? When we're on video mode, playback button preview videos, then switch to photo mode, and hit the playback button, the camera still preview videos. Have to manually switch in the menu. Blue menu - 1 Playback Target - Select Playback Media. Before I update this. Whenever we're on video mode, playback button previews videos, when we're on photo mode, playback button previews photos.
Or am I missing something here?

image quality settings include three new modes for Raw File Type being Lossless Comp (L)(M)(S) . that being lossless compressed large or medium or small

@@MarioSoMedia I heard about the 1.20 version, but is it for another one sony ? isn't it ? I bought mine 2 days ago and it's a 1.01 version . When I try to update to 1.05 on the website this is why I see : " It was confirmed that some products that updated may not operate properly in some casesDistribution will be suspended until we can inform you of modified version. (August 24, 2022)"

So I did the update the night it came out. 1.05 and then 1.10. What I noticed is that because I shoot in Lossless RAW, if I went into the Sony Menu to where you choose the image quality through the menus, it would cause the Camera to crash/reboot. This is because they changed the name to RAW Lossless (L), since they added medium and small formats to go along with it. My guess is that the menu system was remembering I had a setting chosen that was no longer there. But fortunately I have the image quality menu also available from my quick settings screen, so I changed to the "new" renamed format and now the Camera is no longer crashing. So I'm guessing that's the main issue. I haven't heard about any other problems that people are having.

Works good after ver1.10 . Some issue can figure out with reset camera.(I thought the menu setting config files does not sync with private config database in the card). Raw file in s/m can't edit with CaputreOne22 , PS can't edit without the decode algorithm given by SONY.

If you select "RAW" or "RAW Compressed" BEFORE DOING UPDATE and you don't have any problem.
You can also reset A7 4 to defaut params to access to "Image quality" menu.
So, it's not a BIG PROBLEM.
Hopefully but there's always a risk especially if Sony is recalling that release 😅

I was going to update but after seeing this video I wait until this is resolved. Anyway, my Camera v. is 1.01 should I anyeau upgrade to v. 1.05 as mentioned? Or should I wait until the issue is fixed and then upgrade to v.1.20? As I have sees this is the latest version. Thank you posting such a informativ video.
I would just wait till the issue is fixed. I believe the v1.20 you are referring to is for the a7riv and not the a7iv

My eye af now after the update feels kinda worse for some reason 😅, before it was only on eyes with "normal" light conditions. Now i see it focuses sometimes on nose or cheek or ear. feels like the focus rate dropped 🤔 on photography mode

@@MarioSoMedia had the 1.01 , then updated to 1.05 and 1.10 yesterday...now feels like it doesnt focuses as good as before on af c / photography mode... i tested it on every focus area, im not that happy as before unfortunately

Posting later at night outside of my regular posting timing so you get saved from getting a glitchy firmware update and render your a7iv glitchy or unusable.
Hopefully they’ll fix the issue within a week. I’ll stay on 1.01 for now until it does.

I updated my few 4 day old a7iv with no issues, I just follow the instructions and went from 1.0 to 1.05 then 1.10 and everything seems to work fine, just my experience.

Yeah if it works well for you and you don't need the newly added functions on the new firmware, you're good. Mine has experienced some AF issues and the new firmware addresses that apparently. 🤷🏻♂️

Sometimes AFC is a little glitchy. The focus square shows where it's focusing and when I look at it on screen it it's out of focus. I usually turn it off and back on and that seems to solve it.

@@MarioSoMedia just set it to high from the start and no problems since. I was used to it from my A6400 so it never crossed my mind that having to do so is anything special. I do, however, never film in the highest quality. 4K 10 Bit 140mb/s is the highest I go. Though with monitor+ connected.

What's the point of this "warning" video, other than to get views, if the firmware isn't available to download anyway?
The point is that some people were able to download the data file before the warning from Sony and maybe haven't gotten around to updating the firmware yet. Either way, welcome to RUclips.
I just checked, and the firmware is still locked out until the firmware is fixed.

This is absolutely terrible. If I purchase the Sony A74 I shall not use any firmware update only one I shall use will be the very first firmware update where for the Sony A74
Sometimes firmware updates address specific issues and add new functionality to the camera so it's good to have them. The problem is that it should be all good and not buggy before they get released.

Not anymore. This was a problem when it first came out wayyy back.
Updates often tamper with key product functionality. Look at lawsuits from apple, Samsung, and this situation. Its not a rare occurrence.

@@MarioSoMedia I always recommend staying offline. If they can't make a product that doesn't require an internet connection, its best to keep shopping. Especially when talking about $2500 cameras. I would die if an update ruined my gear. As expensive as it is, its just not worth the risk. Companies have proven they are willing to destroy products with updates. Thats where they lose me. Update at your own risk.
