It's such a good point you make about stock RCs. Most are great for normal use. The more you expect out of them and the rougher you treat them, the more you will have to upgrade to stronger parts. My experience, pick one car as your basher and make it a tank. Keep all the rest stock and enjoy them as they were intended. Not everything can survive a skate park!
I have a 6s mojave and I beat the crap out of it and it's still going. I've run the tires bald and I don't have a single upgrade. I don't have an xmaxx to compare it to, but I can say arrma makes a mean mojave.
Stock is the way to go imo. I like to give those RC engineers the benefit of the doubt.

Except certain rcs require more upgrades than others.
Yes forward reverse on a plain road , soon starts to jump soon starts to order parts , some even on first small jump
That was such a nasty landing for that arrma. Both trucks did much better than I would have thought they would.

Don’t land on throttle lol. Arrma diffs hold up much better than traxxas’ powdered metal. If you’re wrecking Arrma difs, you would destroy traxxas ones

@@boduke9428You can swap chassis with the associated Pro sc10 4x4 which is a longer and a straight bolt on. It might give you the size you're looking for.

Its incredible how far these trucks have come from my v1 kraton. It was the best rc ever. Now it s a dinosaur 🦕
I literally just bought a v1 K8S new!! $750 to my doorstep. HaHa! It came through with EXB front shocks, v1 RTR rears!!🤔 Oh well, guess what? The front EXB shocks were leaking IN the box!! Just like my Xmaxx was leaking IN the box when I bought it new 2 years ago? 🤣 Just gonna send-it!! But not very high!!😛

What Traxxas as a good trial truck / basher but not heavy truck like under 20 lbs but decent out of the box

Ok so ive thought of a neat challenge I think ppl would love to see. Build a rtr but do it by buying the parts separately not the hole car. and try to build it for as much less than retail as u can. with More Power in mind!
Awesome job on the new outcast bro. Iam over here in the u.s. and I got one about 2 months ago and she has been a beast. I did do some modifications to it but Iam amazed that it did 58 on the stock setup. I ended up dropping an 840 kv hobbystar and max 5 with 34/34 and she's a monster. Great video again bro CHEERS!

The debate will never be settled. I have both, they're both amazing. But if I'm going to brutally abuse such an expensive toy it's going to be the X-maxx. It's simply cheaper to repair.

I got 53 with stock gears and the Gens ace 8000 100c. The Outcast is already insanely heavy I cant picture with all the upgrades. Dont know how the front bumper mount hasnt broke mine did first time out

Perfectly said Kev. You dont NEED to mod these things but it dont hurt and they look great. Also with your level of bashing, if $300 in upgrades can keep a $1000 rig alive then its money well spent! Same goes for real cars. My Audi makes 1000 whp and of course I had to upgrade other parts to make sure it dont explode or kill me. lol

To be fair that Outcast landing was on the side and all the force went to the two a arms whereas the xmaxx landing was a nose dive and all the force went to the front bumper and transferred through the chassis. Two different hits and have to take these tests with a grain of salt. Entertaining nonetheless!
Nailed it. You can't compare a square nose landing with an awkward one wheel spike. Been there, done that.
I took out a loan for one ( outcast EXB ) about a month ago. I'm still fairly new to the hobby , almost 2 years ,, too expensive to launch , should be more than tough enough for my highest jumps. I tried to get into the drawing for the fully upgraded one to no avail. Totally amazing
2 years new I have been on it 10 months and I own 28 cars with an xmaxx and an xrt lmao.

Great stuff Kev. It seems to me that Traxxas really nailed the design of the Xmaxx durability wise. There have been a couple of versions tbf, but on the whole they are just not as likely to break as the ARRMA trucks.
Having said that, with the way I drive an ARRMA would be fine.
The xmaxx is so good because it flexes so well it bends into bad landings but these with Ali chassis have no give so all the impact isn't transferred and they break.
I have seen the xmaxx break much the same way the arrma has. When you leave the ground at such heights, all bets are off on durability.
@@tannercurtis1836 yeah that's obvious. They do break. Everything does. I was just giving reasons to why they don't break as easily.

EXB OUTCAST is a beast. Only upgrades i've done and needed in 2 years:
-m2c driveshafts
-radical rc bash bar
- kev t bulk head fix longer screws
- internal alloy diff case front & rear, plastic cracks after few runs destroying gears
- soak all plastic in wd40 and leave to absorb after a few days
-add 1 silicone ear plug to centre diff for standing back flips
Love my xmaxx but with the above upgrades my outcast has been my most reliable rig. The wd40 amd bash bar really helps with the bad landings. Ive bent m2c shafts and just bent them back and all good
Optional change esc. I run xlx2 doesnt even get warm or mamba monster x 8s or HW max 5 is just as good. Mine does 65+mph on grass with the same motor 5687 1100kv.

That is a perfectly well modded and upgraded outcast, all the right stuff on that truck!!!!! love Kevs noises on bad crashes....Lol!!!!!
The upgrades and building is half of the hobby. I have a 400$ truck with over 1000$ of upgrades and parts. I deff build it more than I drive it.

You are totally right to say upgrades are optional however for your casual hobbyist the cost of an exb models or equivalent is already a bit outlay so more interested in its stock form. Still seems traxxas have the edge on that

Just got me a used kraton 8s and i just hit a trashcan at the park, broke the control arm off at the hinge pins and it made me remember what you said about m2c and their parts. Already ordered driveshafts and i went back to this video to find out the rest of the upgrades i should get 😅 thanks for posting and love all your vids from both channels!

Thank you for specifying what length bolts you used on the bulkhead! I think I had asked in one of your livestreams what length they were. Going to do this mod to mine soon, I’ve stripped out those bolts before!
i remembered people asking :) but you can always measure it yourself by shoving a wrench down the hole and getting something a couple mm shorter of drilling the hole deeper

Did all the upgrades still broke, ouch. For £500 just in upgrades for minimal speed increase and not much more strength well failed, that money would buy a whole 6s team corally car or 6s python I know where my money would go.

Pretty sure the shorter screws are meant to strip before breaking ,,, good ideas for longer screws.

J'ai une théorie très complotiste : on sait que au fond Kevin préfère le Xmaxx, donc pour montrer que le outcast casse et pas le xmaxx, il fait exprès d'avoir une mauvaise trajectoire sur le saut de la fin. C'est pour ça que on voit pas tout le saut. Pour qqn qui conduit des 1/5 depuis 8ans, c'est un peu bizarre de ratter un saut à fond sur un skatepark où il n'y a personne 🤔. C'est une théorie 😅😂

I'm guessing since you "review" these RC's that several companies probably send them for free or at least heavily discounted so not like spent $1K truck plus $500 on upgrades really, unless you did Idk.
I don't know if it would be to much trouble but I think one of the reasons people ask you for things on the channel isn't just because they are lazy and want free stuff because you have what seems like alote of money I think in some cases people just want a peice of the channel you know some people may not just want an xmax or arrma they want a Kevin Talbot one because they like you, I don't think it's about the thing it's some times about the relationship sort of , maybe a personal online store could be a mutual benifitaul arrangement

hey Kev i was watching your Traxxas E-revo 2.0 video and you used two 2S lipo to make 4S and you said the traxxas is only meant to take 3S does that mean 1 1S and 1 2S or 1 3S or 2 3S thank you kev sorry if they comment is confusing
I got my RC car from Dollar Hobbyz, and ether the center drive shaft broke or the gears are shredding. What RC store would you prefer me to get parts. PS the car is 1/18th scale and I live in the US
Xmaxx is like 10lb lighter with plastic everything. This is the largest contributing factor to its durability.
thats is why plastic is better for bashers in most cases :) cheaper and stronger
Outcast is a lot much more fasterer with the upgrades. In fact, it's a lot much more betterer all round.
Long story short ,, being a musician , can't practice in the apartment ,, something to stay occupied. Definitely more reliable in the long run. I definitely can't afford to keep sinking hard earned cabbage into rides.

I love my outcast exb. I don't beat it like this guy but I do drive the living shit out of it and it handles everything just well. I've only replaced the front bumper and tail mount. Thing is a beast
That's the different between flexible and stiff. Which wons? Over all aluminium and thicker material is not always better than lightweight composite.

Love the outcast and I own a Kraton is EXB. But even with all the upgrades it still can't outlast an XMaxx lol. Lesson learned if you wanna buy a tough outcast get an XMaxx instead lol.

Hey kev, you should make your Land Rover defender in real life to an rc car. You could use the TRX4 defender body and paint it.
And don't waste ya money on m2c shocks, just get the Rovan 10mm with 6000cst oil and stock outcast springs.
Great stuff! side by side between the two. Was surprised how much more nimble the Xmaxx was - what is the weight difference between the two with all the mods? just seems the Xmaxx is a lot lighter.
It is. The Arrma is 30 plus pounds. It handouts ridiculous good for its weight.

It won't never be able to compete against the x-maxx xmax they use some type of plastic that is stronger than mc2 and all the other make and models
