    Joas and crew continue to install roof, windows, doors and framing in the 26x30 single level log cabin in Arizona.
    The crew experiences a setback when the roof foam machine breaks down. It costs them a whole day and some of the crew has to catch a flight home, leaving Joas and Jeff to finish the roof sheeting themselves.
    But it gets completed in a few days time, and Joas and Jeff get to see a few sights on the way as they pull the tool trailer back home.
    The new homeowner, Lisa, is ecstatic about her new Meadowlark log cabin. She is already sanding logs in preparation for applying interior finish. She insists she got more than she expected, so we are also very happy about that.

      KMAC Radio Grateful for the quality workmanship, for realizing a dream come true, for the physical ability to work on and have a part in building her new home, for having the financial ability to purchase her home, and many many other reasons. Gratefulness doesn’t just come from free stuff. It comes from realizing God’s blessings come in many forms.

      Take a look at their website, its says estimate $180 to $250/ft2 so at 780 ft 2 that would be $140,400 to $195,000 plus finishing costs and utilities. I figure the owner spent $250,000 not counting the land, taxes or permits. It would be cheaper to just stick build it with basic materials, no crane and do your own labour but this is a special log construction needing heavy equipment and know how....

    Looks like a great cabin , but I wonder about that 10cm gap between the roof insulation and the OSB. I think it would attract roof rats and other animals to nest in there. Here in Australia we would call that house a termite sandwich especially with a dirt floor crawl space. The owner expressed the goal that she wanted healthy biodegradable materials, the problem with raw untreated logs they may degrade before you want them to and painting on preservative will now gas off for months if not years and it would have to be redone periodically. My experience with logs that have not been processed, dried, sealed and treated is they are going to dry, shrink, crack and twist especially in that arid dry climate there. I don't want to be critical here but just realistic about this building's materials and methods...

    • @brianrundle2875
      @brianrundle2875 4 года назад

      @L Puma if you are asking about what to put down in your crawl space, My answer would be a concrete floor with a moisture barrier underneath. A dirt/ gravel floor will give you mice, moisture and bugs. That" non toxic " timber stain will still gas off and accumulate in an enclosed area. If you can smell it it is in the air and not that healthy especially for kids , old folks and those with illnesses...

      We can build and ship to Canada and a Canadian crew will assemble it on your site if it’s located in Canada.
      The logs are adequately insulated so only the roof and floor need added insulation.

    I don't see this one listed on the website. I don't see any power poles in this video. I wonder how far power is from the build site. It's expensive to run power for any distance. I'm assuming she'll need a well drilled as well. After much careful consideration, as much as I like log cabins, I've decided that it makes much more sense to just site a double wide mobile. I can get twice the square footage for half the price.

    • @brianrundle2875
      @brianrundle2875 4 года назад

      Well it would be even cheaper if you stick build a home yourself and you would end up with something a lot nicer than a mobile home. You need to have energy, time and be willing to learn. It is not hard and there is so much free help, inspiration and Knowledge available today. If you hunt for some recycled building materials it could be even cheaper. Last year I bought a whole set of solid birch kitchen cabinets for $80 that were being taken out and upgraded.

    • @kmacradio
      @kmacradio 4 года назад

      @@brianrundle2875 Unfortunately, at my age I don't have the physical ability or energy to do that sort of thing myself. Even though there are many RUclips video's showing exactly how to put a new roof on and how simple it really is, I will have to pay a roofing contractor to do it because my back wont hold up to it. There is nothing golden about the golden years. There are some VERY NICE and well constructed manufactured homes these days! You'd be surprised! The higher end ones are not like the cheaply constructed Mobiles of the 60's or 70's.
