- Elvie visits the new Trout Creek log home that the Meadowlark crew assembled. Scott was happy to show him the progress so far.
Scott and Kim are the owners of another Meadowlark log cabin, the Green Valley Rancher. This one was built a few years prior to the Trout Creek and will become a guest house after they move into the new home.

Beautiful work as usual Elvie. I research so many log home builders the past few years for my retirement home and hands down Meadowlark are the most beautiful I've seen.

It depends how hot in the Summer it gets in ones area, In my area it can get up to 100 degress it's like an attic which is why i'm not getting a loft

Put a FULL basement under a house like this and I'll buy it ! Can't understand why so many people DON'T pay a little extra to have that space.
Probably comes down to cost because basements do add considerable cost to the home.

That is an impressive property, but very impracticle for here in the UK where land is very exspensive. We are looking to build a three bedroom two storery house with a footprint of 11.5m x 7m.

We love the Trout Creek Log cabin.
After finding the perfect property for us and all the preparation work is completed, we’ll hire y’all to build our Trout Creek.
I’m very much aware that we’ll have to let it set empty for 2 years while it’s settling before finishing the build. But during those 2 years it’ll give us time to save money to complete our house.
That sounds like a plan. There are properties available in the Kalispell area and as you get toward Middle Thompson and Libby, the prices of land probably are slightly less. But land in the northwest Montana area is currently fairly pricey. (December 2023)
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial Yeah, my wife has family all over Montana. She’s got aunts and uncles and cousins who live in Kalispell.
We love rural living in the mountains, but we’ll need to find some land relatively close to Drs and hospitals as I’m not in the best of health and I’m a bit older than my wonderful wife.

Will it remain that light color or are you gonna stain it or get it looking dark somehow? I like it just the way it is!
Unfortunately, wood does not stay its natural color without treatment. It will darken and eventually turn black if you don’t stain it. So a stain with pigment has to be applied, which will make it at least somewhat darker.
Question: What can you buy for $100,000 financed? And, can you bring the ceiling up 6 inches in the rooms on models that are on one level? Great video by the way. I can imagine the smell of fresh wood and the crisp clean air outside. Thanks a million!

$100,000 would get you a pretty small log cabin if you figured all of the cost to finish it. You can visit the Meadowlark website to get prices for the log packages which are listed on the plan pages.
On the second question, it’s no problem to raise the log walls higher on any model. It adds cost, but it is not a problem to do.

That sounds like a good choice. Meadowlark’s crew just finish the instal of an asphalt shingle roof for a Meadowlark Bighorn Rancher on Flathead Lake (November 3023).

We have some great Christian friends who live in Polson. They have a large house boat that they live in during the summer on Flathead. We also have family in White Fish.

Why do you recommend the Sierra Pacific windows for your homes?
I like specifically the Sierra Pacific H3 line of window. It has a strong and heavy aluminum clad exterior, a vinyl core, and a wood interior. The three materials make it very tight and energy efficient window plus they are so beautiful.

How are you going to prevent your house from burning down in a Forrest fire?
That was my main concern when I first saw that beautiful log home. I would have gone with a metal roof instead of shingles and you really have to clear those trees away from that house.

As a Wildland firefighter, we encounter houses like this all the time, what he's got going for them is the fact that their is dirt all around the house, a really nice green lawn well help to. As long as we can get brush trucks up there(access/egress) and have a defensible position we can protect the structure. Also have to have water easily accessible to refill the trucks.Its when home owners start adding things like out buildings, propane tanks, wood piles and just random junk that we can't defend it. They can cut some trees back away from the house, give themselves 50'-100'of clearing all around the structure, will also help.
Mitigation. But there's really only so much one can do. Do all you can and have insurance.

When you say downsizing is that like 800 sq ft? What’s the smallest? The cost?
I think practically you wouldn’t want to go much less than 1000 ft.² if you downsize it otherwise the rooms would be too small.

There are 2 bathrooms. The bathroom for the guest bedroom is shared and accessed with the main living areas.

But then again the Bible says to have your quiver full, which is 6.
Sadly all 3 of our children are with the Lord now. But the Great thing about it all is that there will come a day when our bodies will lay down for the last time and we will be able to be with our Lord and our children forever.
The Bible says that it hasn’t entered into the minds of men what all the Lord has in store for us in heaven, but I’m confident that it’ll be Awesome.
We’re looking forward to seeing what our children will look like being “grown”.
