Beautiful craftsmanship! Excellent choice in windows! Excellent framing! Thanks for pointing out how the roof should extend more in the front 👍 God bless your work! 😊
If you every get a chance to show one of the small cabins like the 12x16 being put up it would be great for me. I am thinking something like that would be a great do it myself project for my hunting land I own. Thanks
Elvie, great channel, How bout doing a video on an older home, showing how you build and allow for settling, log shrinking, etc. where cracks between logs do not happen, !! that would be great,
Love your videos, thank you Elvie for all the fantastic building and inspiration. Question: what type of join do you use on corners for logs, are they fit/cut or just stacked and how are they joined? So used to seeing dove-tail connections this is interesting to me as it seems much easier to put together, but is it a strong/lasting fit? Thank you and the Amish Meadows team, from Europe, danke, Phil
All the joints are cut with a German made chainsaw the Stihl 500i. It is a simple V type butt and pass joinery and if you look at the videos closer you’ll probably see a lot of them being cut and get the idea of how they are doing it.
@Meadowlark Log Homes I didn't see adjustments for the porch posts. Don't those vertical members need to shorten to accommodate the roof over the porch as the logs on the main structure shrink?
There’s not that much settling, but on taller walls, we do provide a settling shim or a jack on the porch posts. You are correct that it is usually needed.
I may or may not afford log homes by Amish Meadows but it is worth watching how Meadows log homes are built to last a life time. One day lord welling I'll have one built and the sooner the better. We are living in the last days of the church age, so the lord could come even as I'm typing this message. Amen. Pays to be ready in our lord Jesus amen.
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial Thank you. I also wanted to know how the square footage is measured. If the home is 26×32 is this including logs, or if I were to measure wall to wall while inside the home, I'd have 26×32 available to me inside?
Below the video there is a link for you to go to our website and the prices are listed for the log package. For deeper pricing you would need to contact Meadowlark Log Homes office.
Ellie, in order to keep snow off’a the porch you’ll need to DOUBLE the width of the roof in relation to the porch. It ALL depends on which way the wind is blowing. Otherwise the homeowner will ALWAYS be shoveling AT LEAST the outside half of their porch. Coming from the Chitcago area, I should know.
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial ELVIE, why don’t you ask your customers what THEY think of a half (azz) covered porch in winter season weather. I’ll bet my LAST DOLLAR that they would agree with me, and ALSO, that you’re just making EXCUSES for cutting the costs of the project. ‘Nuff said.”
The prices are on the website if you follow the link to the video. But we list only the log package price because the rest of the cabin is much more detailed and so many options.
Can you send us some plans: 2 bedroom, Living room, small kit, bathroom. Low-end and high-end costs. My husband is in the plumbing/heating and electrical business so we can take care of those items.
Yes, you will be able to see videos but we are currently pre-assembling one that will be shipped to British Columbia. We cannot reassemble in Canada but we can sometimes assist you in finding a Canadian builder to reassemble the home for you.
We are updating the log package prices, and they will appear on the website soon, but meanwhile you can contact the Meadowlark Log Homes staff with the contact form on the website and they will help you with your questions.

Good to see you again, very slow internet on the farm which has changed from Ken Verrall to Granite Ridge Greens. Check Us out if You find the time. Cheers and Peace Out
The trim looks better than cedar but I do like the cedar for bug reasons I hope there is a way you could do a very thin layer maybe something like a rejected piece that would normally be fire wood make thin ugly and hidden because cedar is bug resistant even cockroaches don't care for cedar this was one of the major reasons why I like your buildings all kinds of bugs are covered in a natural way😎
My home is in New Jersey. Elvie, if I hit the lottery, you'll be the first to know. Love your work.

my perfect retired home... have to look for a piece of land in MT...
Love it for a weekend getaway. To small to live in.

Is it possible to keep this completely open? Or is the half log wall necessary?
It can be ordered without the log wall so it’s one open room.

That’s what you call a long driveway! 😱
A Montana driveway
Please correct me, but I thought I heard you say that there was a 91/2 Eye beam in the roof construction? Thank you.
9-1/2” I-Joist is used as rafters. This is an engineered member.
Approx cost would be nice so i can judge if obtainable or fantasy for my means. Thanks!

All said and done, just what we see in the video, what is the final price of that cabin??? Beautiful work!!
The prices are on the website if you follow the link to the video. But we list only the log package price because the rest of the cabin is much more detailed and so many options.
where do you out heat fireplace
The fireplace or stove will probably go in the front right hand corner but the house is not yet finished so that will happen as they finish it.
I want a cabin! We live in Minnesota, can this be done? We are looking at something around 1000 sq ft.
No problem.

Do you guys build in New York
Yes
No plumbing?
Not yet. There will be plumbing in the frame walls once they are installed.
How much for that package
We are updating the log package prices, and they will appear on the website soon, but meanwhile you can contact the Meadowlark Log Homes staff with the contact form on the website and they will help you with your questions.
Beautiful cabin. I wish there was clear stain to keep this original color
Clear stain for logs doesn’t exist…. The logs will blacken and won’t stay clear. You must add color.
Aren’t log homes much colder than regular homes for lack of insulation ?
NO
Cost?

Maybe a bit more when completed

900 square feet!
2300 miles from my zipcode...
It is probably 1200 square feet.
24x32= 768 square feet
@@AmishMeadowsOfficial ok thanks.
I can’t believe there’s no natural stains available to keep it the original color…🤔
So far no stain color is made that is clear. They will all darken if you don’t add pigment.
