The world being deeper on 2B2T is very interesting, as hundreds of thousands of already explored chunks will now have more to explore beneath them. Also means that the bedrock floor at spawn will be a lot farther down. I'm very curious to see what happens from this.

I've been following minecraft news pretty tiddly, but I still think that 1.13 is newer version, even though almost half of decade has passed at this point...
@@kaasdragon8195 plugins doesn't make a difference in world size, amount of generated chunks does. And considering 10+ years of running and enormous amount of players, a lot of which constantly generate chunks (including specifically for lagging the server), this is not that surprising

Sadly that won't happen. Well unless Mojang change their minds. The most recent snapshot prevented you moving them which is a real damn shame, warden base defences would have been amazing. And wardened spawns would be utterly hilarious.
No doubt someone will cheat it in at some point, but that's a long LONG way off, not as long as this update has taken, the target version and 1.19 are considerably closer in the back-end, but certainly a while. Although there's also the added strain of the vertical height being added.
Oh god, just imagine how hellish spawn will become when it does update, so much vertical height to play with.

News for all map art creators:
1.14 added map locking by using a cartography table and adding glass pane to it so you dont have to worry about it getting griefed as it would never change (if it updated)
if it update, someone will rush a 666 lock map, 100% sure
I believe that 1.12 is the last version with such limited map IDs as well.
Decided to take a look at the code and see what I could find :p
(1.18, decompiled, using yarn mappings)
There are a few things that could cause map IDs to be so limited:
- Explicit checks to limit IDs (this is unlikely to be the culprit, dunno why you would explicitly limit this)
- Using a small data type like a 16-bit Java "short" while handling map IDs, which can store numbers up to about 32767 (65535 unique numbers in total, including negatives) (this is much more likely to be the culprit, since this is around how many map IDs are available in 1.12. Perhaps notch didn't expect anyone to make that many friggin maps when they were first introduced x3)
So, I know that right-clicking with an empty map produces a new filled map, so I decided to start looking at what code was run after the map was used. "EmptyMapItem" overrides the "Item.use" method, which handles right clicks (and maybe more?).
So, chasing function calls starting there, I found:
1. the "use" function runs "FilledMapItem.createMap" on the server side (singleplayer runs a multiplayer server internally)
2. this "createMap" function runs "createMapState" (it needs to do this to initialize the map item's NBT)
3. "createMapState" runs "allocateMapId" (this is what is responsible for making sure old map IDs aren't used, and is likely where the problem is in 1.12)
4. "allocateMapId" runs "World.getNextMapId"
5. "ServerWorld.getNextMapId" runs "IdCountsState.getNextMapId", making sure that the map count is always synchronized with the data file at /data/idcounts.dat.
6. _Finally (!!!)_ "IdCountsState.getNextMapId" increments the map id and then writes it back to the state file.
Conclusions:
Keeping in mind the potential limiters listed above, neither of them end up being a problem in the walkthrough of the code. There did not seem to be any _explicit_ limiting checks (again, don't know why you would), and Java "int"s were used the entire time, so a small data type wouldn't restrict the space of possible values. Java "int"s have 4,294,967,295 possible states, so this is probably approximately the map Id limit in 1.18 (though i think this applies to 1.13 and up). If 20 maps were filled each second, it would take ~3.4 real life years before the map IDs rolled over and became negative, and 6.8 years to cycle back around to the start. I dont think anyone will be running out of these anytime soon, though perhaps it's not out of the picture if you had a large amount of map-spamming infrastructure... :p

there's still sort of a way to "lock" maps pre-1.14, they won't ever update if you don't hold them in your hand, 1.14 method is definitely way superior though

I reckon people should still try to save some of the old structures from there in some other server, just to avoid potentially wiping away a decade worth of history if the update just destroys everything
The update is still gonna be on the same map tho. So all is gonna stay. Just with a higher build limit.

This makes me realize how weapons like Tridents, Crossbows, Respawn Anchors, and maybe even Sculk Sensors will be modified and weaponized, like imagine someone made a hack that spams Riptide or the insane amount of respawn anchor PvP at spawn

I feel like an update would be overwhelming for the veterans of 2b2t, but from a developer’s perspective, it needs to update to hold the server in place.

Oh boy, can't wait for a group of players to make huge farms that can cover giant areas of land in skulk blocks. Or maybe they'll put skulk shrieker blocks all over spawn so new players will be instantly killed by wardens.
Edit: I now know that shriekers that have been placed by players can't summon the Warden, but you can make it unbearable to play by placing a skulk sensor in the middle of a ton of shrieker blocks so the sound will be incredibly loud, and you can make a bunch of those noise makers and place them everywhere so players will trigger them every step of the way. They'll have to either sneak everywhere, which is slow and dangerous, or mute their volume and be vulnerable to ambushes due to them not being able to hear other players.

netherite is still slightly stronger then diamond(has like 4 more armor toughness then diamond or something), and will be the new grind, but it will not be needed whatsoever

considering a majority of chunks have already been generated, the new terrain updates have negligible performance tanks.
All of the bedrock will transform into deepslate, because the world goes all the way down to y-64, so everything will be way bigger. Also all of the sky art could be griefed now with withers, we will see once the update finally comes
Believe it or not the majority of chunks have not been generated I forget the actual number but something like less than 10% of the map has been generated.

I have something I'd like to add to this: I used to be an exclusive java 1.7.10 player. I'd say well over half my playtime on that update. The reason was mods. It took forge a very long time to get past the 1.8 hurdle, and then even longer for the majority of mods to update past that. I hit a point where I honestly felt like I played everything modded had to offer. I took a break for a while playing other games. One day my friend wanted to try the new update at the time 1.15. I was immediately hooked. The new-to-me water elevators alone were a game changer. Now i refuse to play anything before 1.13. The 1.13 update was a real game changer. On the focus of 2b2t I think that the new armor toughness system will probably spice up combat again. I think potions will probably be where the pvp meta shifts to.

Thanks Fit for all you do for the 2B community your passion for keeping 2b history alive and MC in general shows in all of your content. I have played on the test server and was so shocked at how well it ran I maintained a solid 20 TPS for over 3 hrs whilst mining ancient debris. I know it’s been over a year, but this video is *still* relevant, since HauseMaster is *still* testing 1.19. With 1.20 out now, I have to wonder what version 2b2t will finally update to. I personally think it won’t matter as long as it’s 1.19+ at this point. I also wonder what the next “stable” version of Minecraft for mods and servers will be. 1.12 was a MAJOR one, but 1.16 was another. We’re due any time now for another extremely stable version. I somehow doubt it’ll be 1.20, but possibly 1.21 or 1.22.

The server I play on has been around in various forms since beta 1.2 (2011), and you can see just how much the game has evolved in those 11 years, and recently with the 1.18 update it took the admins doing some serious extensive work to preserve builds from all across those years, whilst pruning out areas around, so I can't imagine what it'd be like on 2b2t lol

I saw a video by DigMC and he Toured a Build of the German Battleship Bismarck by a Player named Tirpitz, ironically enough the same as Bismarck's Sister Ship. The Video is almost 2 years old now and I'm wondering if History repeated itself in Minecraft and the Build was Griefed or not, Chances are that it was since it was built on 2B2T.

I've never played on 2b2t, but I have been watching it since the Rusher war. Something about this server, in particular, is very interesting. What if 2b2t had a global conflict
This server makes me wish I could've been there in the beginning.
To be a part of a community like 2b2t must be epic, imagine actually being there when all of these events went down. One day I hope to be a witness to a great historic event in a game.
once the update happens, it will lead to a new era of 2b2t, and they'll be massive changes and events.
Experiences like this were all over the place back in the MMO day's pre-WOW.

I played most of my minecraft hours in the beta around 2011 and have only played rarely since then, enchantments are a modern feature for me xD
I’ve watched you from killing a whole bunch of child noobs to basically saving this server
(5:31) Okay. I've said this on another video over a month ago, but I've had the idea that 2b's far lands may not exist anymore. On August 8, 2011, there was an incident where player data got corrupted and the server had to be hosted on a new map for a little while until the old(read: current seed) map got reset to its pre-August state. Hausemaster said on the Facepunch forums that the catalyst behind the corruption was likely a case of someone crossing the 12.5M limit of the far lands. When 2b updated to 1.8, this version removed the far lands and implemented the 30M world border we see today. If in the off-chance that the map was so fucked even back then that the far lands remained, years of wear, tear, and abuse of the map has likely reduced the original blocks of the old border to almost nothing.

I have to admit I haven`t hopped on since the nocom incident but after watching this I had to check out the test server. I was so thrilled I might jump back on the main server.
