Bats are back! As of October 1st, 2023, a naturally spawning bat can be found in (399,53,7821) in 2b2t overworld. (I took several screenshots as proof) And according to 2b2t subreddit, bats aren't as rare as this video says.
Sadly, I'm just a new player and I don't have any name tags. But if I can find one so close to spawn, there shouldn't be a need for a name tag anyway.

Bats are like the most forgettable mob in minecraft, yet they somehow have in interesting story in 2b2t, where literally every item has an interesting story
in a world where silverfish, endermites, polar bears, like 5 indistinguishable variants of zombie that for some reason technically count as their own mobs, and snow golems exist?
@@quantumphysics7008silverfish and endermite are annoying enough to not be too forgettable, polar bears are somewhat recent enough to not be forgettable, snow golems are one of two mobs that can be artificially built by players, and zombies are pretty iconic to minecraft

It's still super impressive and cool that people like myself (who are old enough to remember the alpha of Minecraft) are still active players. I remember when the trope was all Minecraft players were kids, but now the game has been a staple so long it really isn't surprising to hear a fully grown, deep voiced man narrating a Minecraft video. Makes me feel less odd.
I imagine that the reason House stopped prevented the server from spawning more of them was because they'd clog up caves and because since they virtually had no fucntion (the are passive, don't drop anything, and often become annoying), he figured that by not having them at all nobody would bother.
fun fact, he had no involvement on why they aren't spawning.
its the playerbase causing it.
There are too many actively spawned Passive mobs or nametagged passive mobs.
thus until some are killed, new ones will not spawn unless they despawn or are killed.
despawning requires them to leave the chunk they spawned in.
killing them requires a player to physically murder the passive mob.
this is to prevent reaching the passive mob cap limit provided by mojang which Hausemaster cannot change.

By the way, bats are not the only mob that doesn’t spawn anymore. Some other mobs, the most notable being the ocelot, also no longer spawn.

The reason for this is because the passive mob cap has been reached.
Primarily because 2B2T has soo many duplicated Donkeys that have been nametagged to create God Armors/Weapons.
During that time there was a crisis about all passive mobs and people began hoarding them and name tagging them in hiding spots.
until a majority of these are killed off, there will always be a spawning crisis of ANY passive mob.
@@noxiousvex Name tagged mobs dont count towards mob caps though unless hausemaster changed it. Your theory does suggest that any passive mob that can despawn is in danger of extinction but the ones that can't should be safe.

Loved the video @FitMC! Can't wait for the next video man! This video has brought up another "Complaint" against the 1.19 "Wild" Update. Because bats feed on Insects, Minecraft had the Chance to allow the Players to tame and Breed Bats.... With the Firefly mob. But No, instead we end up getting the Frogs. And now on 2b2t they are on the Red list of Endangered Species!

At 4:33 rn and gonna make a prediction. Someone just has a lot a lot, of bats in one place, and that stops bats from spawning naturally because of the mob number cap. It's like a giant scavenger hunt for the bat hoard somewhere. Maybe they're all invisible or something idk lmao. If no one had found them after extensive searching, they're extremely well hidden.

I never played 2b2t, but the fact the server exists for so long and has gone through multiple versions of minecraft is so cool. It's like a giant archive of the minecraft community throughout the last ten years.
This is quite possibly the coolest 2b2t video I've seen to date, the fact that a mob could legitimately be facing extinction is nuts. My only fear now though is somebody's gonna go looking now, and that somebody won't have good intention for Dingbat, or any other remaining bats out there

Kinda wild. The only other significant bat that I know of is the one which broke ilmangos tunnel bore / ice highway flying machine.
Took him awhile to figure out how it stopped working, but fortunately he had it recording for a timelapse, so he found the answer.

Videogame development companies have their own testers that work alongside the designers and programmers. I live in montreal where were lucky to have many opportunities to get one of those positions by working through 3rd party testing agencies to gain the experience needed. :)

If the bats are despawning when the players get close, then the server almost certainly has to be removing them. I think they're probably disabled because otherwise they'd fill up hollow lava casts and hurt server stability.

named functionality changes the NBT data which is what stops the despawning the exact same as a name tag does.
There should be a bat conservation group for 2b2t. Finding and nametagging bats to keep them alive

Now that I think about it, I feel like I have encountered some before. Somewhere out in the 100k radius in 1.4 mineshafts back when I would just pillage dungeons and what not for whatever I could find.

last time i saw a bat in 2b2t was around 2019 to 2020 when i played for a while and found a nether portal under an ocean in a cave, there were one or two bats there but without thinking i chased and killed them, but my guess is that those are the spots bats would most likely be, under frequently traveled encased caverns down below the ocean since it would be loaded and unnoticed by players
I saw one just a year ago about 2 million blocks north. It had a name tag and was named Jerry (it belonged to my friend as I was at his base). At the time I didn't know they were rare as I was relatively new to the server.

Its possible that a plugin turned the bats into chunk loaders since 1.4
And a player loading those chunks allowed the server to reset them.
And update the AI of the bats to the current version. Causing them to despawn after the chunks were unloaded.
This makes me wish I'd risked going into 2b2t back when I first found your channel.
One of the first things I do within my first week of any server is find a bat and name it Charles, in honor of the one I'd found when I was about 13? That'd been around when I first started, and didn't like the thought of having to punt them.
And funnier still, at the time I thought they could bite players on a very low rate, and yet I still kept him around and eventually forgot that assumption I'd made
Maybe if I'd tried to go in around then, I'd have thought to ask if anyone had seen any bats
And then likely debated on risking following coords on a bat falsely given, just for the chance of having Charles again, hah

I made a few pet bats in an underwater shaft. There was four tagged. Bill,phill,dill and Philip. Unfortunately this was a a few months ago. I don't remember where I made that base but if you find it, there's a few diamonds
