    You kind of lost me when you said "competing with the Model Y." Yes, the Model Y has a luxury price tag, but it's not a luxury car. It seems to me that the LYRIQ is competing more with the Audi e-Tron and BMW iX than anything Tesla currently offers. I'm sure more direct comparisons will bear this out.

      @@Nebula1701 it’s physically larger than the Y but a huge portion of that is the long hood. The Y actually has more rear cargo area and bests the Lyriq in several interior dimensions. I have a 2022 Y and have a Lyriq reservation. What constitutes “luxury” is different based on your age. Younger luxury buyers value what they don’t see as much as what they do. Older luxury buyers value what they see before them. Younger buyers consider simple design, lack of clutter, and the most advanced technology “luxury”. They consider things like outside mirrors that auto-fold when you approach a car wash, no need for a key fob or power button as luxury touches. They appreciate the octovalve under the hood and consider that “luxury” vs the miles of hoses and clamps used by other EV makers. They see neck-snapping acceleration as luxury. Older folks don’t necessarily value those things. They appreciate quiet isolated rides, multiple materials & textures with complex stitching, brightwork and glitz, colorful ambient lighting, and lots of lights and buttons and consider that “luxury.” Tesla Model Y has a luxury price tag because owners for the most part consider it is the epitome of luxury. There is no wrong here. Caddy is playing on their strengths, and Tesla on theirs.

    So it's been a year.
    I preordered my Lyriq in May 2023.
    I ordered a SPORT 3 in ARGENT SILVER, Light Grey interior, with Supercruise, 22's, power moonroof, and Cadillac rubber floor mats.
    $77,000 give or take.
    My order wasn't built till September 2023.
    I was given a VIN.
    My order NEVER SHOWED UP.
    I ended up taking a LUXURY 3 from my dealer instead.
    ARGENT SILVER, Light Grey interior, 19KW charger, Supercruise, 22's, power moonroof, and Cadillac rubber floor mats.
    Basically: everything I ordered PLUS the 19KW charger and Blacked power moon roof.
    I've had the car a week.
    I LOVE the car.
    Thanks to the off-white interior, it feels like driving a Mercedes. Heated/ventilated/massaging seats. Mostly automatic features - controllable by phone app. Gorgeous looks. People drive by me and ask about it. Cops ask about it. My parents LOVE it...
    The only major downsides are minimal.
    #1 The system doesn't auto-index music folders on USB flash drives well.
    #2 The car handles HEAVY - especially in turns. 6000 pounds and 122 inches almost demands rear steering.
    #3 The car's ride quality is mostly solid but over some surfaces, it really need's Cadillac's Magnetorheological shocks (Magneride).
    #4 Some interface design issues could be rethought.
    #5 RANGE...
    We are promised over 300 miles of range. You can set the battery to charge 80%, 85% or 90% to 95% but you're not supposed to charge to 100%.
    In winter, I'm seeing more like 260 miles range, but driving faster than 55MPH cuts that down considerably. Drive at 70mph to 80 mph, you'll cut your expected range in half.
    The car is beautiful, fun and luxurious, but that range doesn't inspire any road-trippability.
    When TESLA opens their superchargers to CCS cars, maybe the rapid charging of a Supercharger will help inspire longer range drives.
    As it is, I do NYC driving in heavy traffic and I charge the car AT HOME on my LECTRON Step 2 V-Box.
    It's a nice setup and works perfectly for me.
    I think for EV to seriously take off, they may need a 500 mile range. It can't be understated how much range is lost when the heating or AC is on.

      @@kenyattaclay7666 That was a problem that has plagued the American (and Japanese) brands now and led to their decades of decline. The constant comparison with the Germans which led to these brands trying to out-German the Germans and try to become something they're not. Between ditching iconic names like Continental and Fleetwood they even opted to copy the Germans in their Alphanumeric naming scheme. In doing so, they completely abandoned what made them phenomenal iconic brands in their heydays when Cadillac was known as an innovator. People that are looking to buy a German car want the performance that go along with it. They won't bat an eye at luxury boats like Cadillac and Lincoln. On the other hand, people like myself who love being immersed in luxury, look at cars like Cadillac, Lincoln, or Genesis nowadays. I feel like it took Tesla to make GM and Ford realize that the key to success in the luxury car market is heritage and uniqueness. Teslas success did not lie in them trying to out-German the Germans. It lied in them being a unique company in not only being the brand that brought electric cars up front but also its unique buying and ownership experience. THAT is what Cadillac and Lincoln need to focus on. What makes them unique. It was always innovation and elegant graceful style while maintaining that American luxury boat like character.

    4:11 A lot will depend on the charging profile, but based on the initial numbers, it looks to be 10% to 80% in about 30 to 35 minutes. The peak 190 kW is promising because, in order to achieve that with 500 A charging, the LYRIQ will need to hold peak current until about 65% to 70%, so it could have a rather flat charging profile like what we see in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA EV6.
    The elephant in the room, of course, is the 500 A charging. Right now, most Electrify America sites are struggling to provide 500 A charging, and the GM-funded "Ultium Ready" EVgo sites are primarily being built in cities rather than on travel corridors.

    • @Wised1000
      @Wised1000 2 года назад

      Everyone is obsessed with peak charging numbers which are a useless measure. A much better figure is the average charging rate from 10 to 80. The best vehicles at this time charge around 150 KW, or a little above, average rate. Same thing with charging stations, even 350 chargers are in effect 170 since as soon as the other connector on the "pump" is in use that's the maximum level the charger will provide.

    • @newscoulomb3705
      @newscoulomb3705 2 года назад +3

      @@Wised1000 I definitely agree that the average charging rate is far more important. I recently reviewed the KIA EV6, which has an average charging rate of about 170 kW to 80%. Compare that with some EVs such as Tesla's that have peak rates of 250+ kW but only have average rates to 80% of about 140 to 150 kW.
      And even that number doesn't tell the whole story because of how the charging curve works. Stop for a 5-minute bathroom break at a 350 kW charger with an EV6 at 50% battery and a V3 Supercharger with a Model Y at 50%, and when you leave, you'll have close to 80% battery in the EV6 and maybe only half that much added (~65%) in the Model Y.
      As far as splitting power, though, the only 350 kW units in North America that split power as far as I know are the 350 kW Delta units being used by EVgo. Outside of that, they are all standalone with now power splitting.

    • @newscoulomb3705
      @newscoulomb3705 2 года назад

      @R W That's a blanket statement that isn't accurate for a majority of non-Tesla EV owners. More and more evidence to the contrary of what you're saying is popping up, including non-Tesla EVs beating Teslas in cross-country cannonball runs and Tesla owners themselves improving their trip times and travel experiences when using CCS1 adapters on the public charging infrastructure.
      In this case, it appears that Roman came to this site to prove a point (probably about inadequate charging infrastructure because the only public chargers in Parkland are 50 kW and he didn't have time to drive to the faster chargers

    • @newscoulomb3705
      @newscoulomb3705 2 года назад

      @R W The reason you don't see RUclips channels promoting non-Tesla charging infrastructure is because they aren't paid to do so (unlike many of those who are paid to promote Tesla/Superchargers). So you have to read between the lines and note how many experienced non-Tesla EV reporters are traveling long distances with few to no issues. It's almost always neophyte reporters or Tesla folk who encounter serious difficulties for some reason.
      Also, I can't speak to that specific EA station, but I've successfully used chargers that other EV owners reported being down quite often. Also, even by Tesla's own metrics, the equivalent Supercharger would never be reported as an issue. Their criteria for a Supercharger site being functional is >50% of the stalls being functional.

    • @newscoulomb3705
      @newscoulomb3705 2 года назад

      @R W If you're saying that the Tesla experience is more seamless, I absolutely agree. I think our difference in opinion is due to why we think that is. You seem to believe it is due to the charging infrastructure. I don't.
      Yes, the Superchargers are marginally better than the entire public fast charging infrastructure overall, but even that depends on where you are and which metrics matter most to you. In reality, a majority of the issues with the public charging infrastructure so far have been due to user/vehicle errors, not the chargers or the charging providers themselves. Even that recent SF Bay Area university study that claimed that ~25% of public fast chargers weren't working appears to be due to the tester's refusing to back into charging stalls or counting one working plug as down even though the other plug on the station was up (they don't share power).
      In my experience, the reason the Tesla travel experience is more seamless at this point is the car itself, not the network. For inexperienced drivers, Tesla's in-car support is top-notch. It's the only EV brand I would recommend to people who refuse to take responsibility for planning their own trips or setting up their own payment accounts.
      And after that debacle where the NYT (Atlantic? WSJ? I can't remember which fossil-fuel funded rag it was now...) reporter was caught though recorded telemetry driving a Tesla for miles in circles around a Supercharger parking lot before claiming the car's battery died en route, the press has largely laid off of Tesla. Now they take trips from New Orleans to Chicago and back in KIA EV6s while trying to rely almost exclusively on 24 kW ChargePoint Harley Davidson chargers. 🙄

Its an ok EV but its more a fleet favorite car many won't care for and the price drops were done in response to major recalls the car needed so they did this to move them along with the plan to kill them off soon. But if they maintain the Equinox and Blazer EVs at reasonable prices and carry that through the upcoming Buick Electra EV then they may land up being the brand that brings EVs to the masses. I once thought that would be Tesla but their recent price hikes have convinced me they have lost interest in catering to the mass market and are focused on wealthy buyers paying $60k or more for an EV.

    This is a very attractive car both outside and inside and I think GM did a pretty good job. GM is usually not the best at packaging and it shows here once again because even with no front motor they couldn't get a frunk in there. Also it is probably heavy, or some other reason they have a battery that is 25-30kWH more than Model Y, but has 10-20 miles less range. Cadillac should get props for the very reasonable price point though. I think it is a little shady that they say it sold out in 10 minutes, but won't tell you that the initial run was 1400 cars, or when they opened the reservations for the full year how many cars were up for grabs. I had checked in on the website several times, but never knew when they were going to allow people to order. I was mostly just curious though. I hope it does well because I am tired of every new EV having a 6-12 month wait list. It's so ridiculous that I have reservations for 5 EV's now and my current Tesla might have it's 8th birthday before any of them actually appear in my driveway.

Touch screen is fine when you are stopped, but doesn't work when you driving.

    I have had a model Y LD for a year and a half. It is not a luxury car. It is a really good car, but more like a sports sedan with a high roof. To me after using it for a while is that our model Y is a great car for doing things in town. In my case that is San Diego. It is very easy to drive, fit into parking spaces, use the built in GPS system to find things. It is small enough and easy to see out of so fitting into small parking spaces are easy. I charge it at home 99% of the time so charges for me are not significant. Mine has been very reliable. The one time I needed a very small repair Tesla sent someone to fix it and it took ten minutes. No charge.
    We have taken it on one longish trip. I would rate it as just OK for that use. No spare tire worried me a lot when we were in very empty spaces in Arizona and California. No sun shade for the very big sun roof (that does not open) was unfortunate when we had hot sunny days. However, the charging was great. Two of the hotels we stayed in had free charging stations. Shout out to Marriot and The Boulders in AZ. And the Tesla superchargers were where we needed them to be. However, using a gas car with stations everywhere and that take two minutes are now and will be in the future easier and faster.
    So far I would say this Caddy looks really good but more need to be made and tested and for sure does not look as electrically efficient as the model Y. I like the fact the Caddilac has a sun screen on the sun roof. Does it come with or can be ordered with a spare tire. No spare tire is a deal breaker for me on all future EV purchases. Does it have AM radio. I like listening to the news on AM. No frunk is a negative. It does not look as aerodynamic as a model Y. I would have liked more controls. In my opinion no direct controls are a MAJOR failing of my Tesla. Yesterday I was entering an address for directions into the maps by voice. The system misinterpreted this as instructions to turn on MAX heat, and it was 103 outside. The screen based climate controls would not respond at all to touch changes. Finally in desperation as the car was likely 110 inside by now I told the climate control to adjust temp to 70 and it did so. Actual direct buttons and switches ARE useful. Tesla's lack of most of them for me is a big negative.
    Of and the price. The model Y is now too much money. Way more than I paid.

    A few things...First - I'm struggling to understand why a two-step process to open the front door makes sense. Personally, I think it's a dumb idea. Second - The idea that a rear wiper isn't necessary due to the aerodynamic design of the car has already been disproved by either Hyundai or Kia--I don't remember which. Cars sit without moving...in driveways, parking lots, etc. Rain and other debris gather. Yes, one could use the rear camera to compensate, provided it isn't soiled. The reviews I saw for Huyndai/Kia is that it's not enough. I don't use the rear-wiper I have, but appreciate that it's there if I need it. Finally - The comment about cooling brakes makes more sense on vehicles that do not have regenerative braking. If driven with re-gen in mind, the use of the brakes would be minimal on flat terrain.
