Yeah, baby! Rivian designs vehicles that people truly fall in love with. Top-notch engineering, beautiful design touches inside and out. We’ve been loving our R1S for 15 months now.
Rivian should do the opposite of what every other EV manufacturer does which is roll out the most expensive EVs first and get the 3X out as fast as possible.
R3X is the most expensive version of the R3 though (because R3X is tri-motor and upgraded interior and paint) and will likely be similarly expensive to a top trim tri motor R2. People are predicting that the release order will be R2, then R3X, then R3. My guess is that they will launch R3X out of their existing Illinois factory since the volume will be lower than the R3.
They are not a legendary brand. I know what you are saying. I have heard that they roll out these expensive ones like Tesla did in order to make enough revenue to move forward. But how did the Koreans and Japanese do it? First cheap affordable cars!

6:15 roll-down glass (rear hatch). My parent's 1965 Dodge Polara Wagon had this feature. The Polara had a remote electric switch on the dashboard. Of course, being an ICE, parents had to be careful when to lower the window as CO2 could enter the cabin easily - like when driving. Low pressure on the rear end just sucks it in. An idea just with the engine off(!).
I think lithium manganese iron phosphate will be far more viable for attainable light vehicle BEVs. While solid state will be high performance high energy requirement vehicles.
They both look great! I've got a deposit down on the R2. I do wish Rivian would add more physical buttons for the HVAC controls and front vent adjustments, a powered pano roof sunshade, and better retractable exterior door handles. B and C pillar air vents would also be great for rear seat passengers and dogs in the trunk.
The 3x styling is on point. Looks like it would be fun to rally. Also, I think they have the air ride suspension on the lowest setting which is why the roof height was low
Rivian announced a few months ago that they're moving the R2/R3/R3X NACS charging ports to the driver's side rear. I reserved one right after RJ rolled it out in March. I've also reserved a Scout Traveler, full EV.
I have never been as excited for a car as I am for the R3X. I drive a 6speed Crosstrek, and I am 100% planning to keep it until the day the R3X is available. I cannot wait for it to be in production, and I just hope that they keep it reasonably priced.
I love this! Hilarious the guy says "Omni" and sine oriole see the AMC Gremlin in it: I owned both, and loved them! Can't wait for the next, more affordable models!
Of all the EV’s out there, Rivian is my favorite. I love that squared off look that they have, and I don’t care if all their models have that look. Maybe one day I will be able to afforded one.
I have a reservation for the R2. The charge port will be the J3400(NACS) in the US and since Rivian already has access to the Tesla network it makes sense. Hopefully it will have an adapter for CCS, otherwise I would buy one because they will be around for the next decade or two. They put the charging port on the passenger rear for curbside charging that so many cities in Europe already use and will eventually appear in the US unless everyone suddenly moves to induction charging. The R3X will probably need a larger charging port opening to fit the CCS2 for Europe. Since GM is building so many pull through charging spots for towing, it won’t matter where the port is soon. The Silverado/Sierra port is drivers rear. Everyone could be like Mercedes and have both plugs in there so no adapter is needed, but that’s a pretty large opening the way they stack them
Dang, didn't know you guys were over at the Venice space yesterday!! Between that and the surprise RJ appearance now I'm even more disappointed I didn't make it LOL
This is going to do really well. Even my wife likes it. I think it's going to really hit a sweet spot in the market. Hey @Rivian, make sure you keep the large wheels/tires! It's key to the good looks!
both the R2 and R3x look amazing, and we want one of each. I really hope they are able to keep the price on target, the cybertruck was such a dissappointment, especially after having one on reserve for so many years
The R3X is one of the coolest cars I can remember in the last 10 years. It's got a genuinely unique style. While I don't have a direct use for a vehicle with that form factor I'd probably buy one as a vanity purchase (something I almost never do).
If this was released q3-q4 2025 it would rock the market. Though I get that their currently unable to produce as much vehicles hopefully it doesnt look dated by the time its released. Although solid state is ramping up so I guess that's a plus when its released. Maybe they take the gamble and release this the same time as the R2.
As a Focus ST owner, I'm ready for an e-hot hatch. Especially if they can make an e-Car without the stupid pricing (< or low $40k?) I thought Tesla had something coming..but, it seemed to have turned into a driverless taxi instead? Sleep in the back, at a camp site and charge over night? >275 to 300 mile real world range. Fun, AFFORDABLE, practical.
Fast acceleration used to be cool, but now it's getting annoying. Nothing needs to go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds on the street. I feel like it's just increasing prices. Three motors? Really? Our EV6 does it in about 4.5 seconds, and the frequency that we actually need even that speed is maybe once a year at most

Of course, being an ICE, parents had to be careful when to lower the window as CO2 could enter the cabin easily - like when driving. Low pressure on the rear end just sucks it in. An idea just with the engine off(!).
We need solid state batteries sooner than later.
I think lithium manganese iron phosphate will be far more viable for attainable light vehicle BEVs. While solid state will be high performance high energy requirement vehicles.
Decades away from that reality.
The R3X reminds me of the Lada and I like it. (or the panda 4x4)
Reminds me of Lancia Delta Integrale
I think it's more like a Niva
They both look great! I've got a deposit down on the R2. I do wish Rivian would add more physical buttons for the HVAC controls and front vent adjustments, a powered pano roof sunshade, and better retractable exterior door handles. B and C pillar air vents would also be great for rear seat passengers and dogs in the trunk.
The 3x styling is on point. Looks like it would be fun to rally. Also, I think they have the air ride suspension on the lowest setting which is why the roof height was low
I just discovered this car a minutes ago - WOW. If I could afford it I'd get one. Just incredible.
The R2 looks good. I'm thinking of downsizing my vehicle and this looks interesting...assuming they come in somewhat close to the stated price point.
The Color/Colour details are so Kewl!
Is anyone using the adjective “hot hatch” other than Roman? Seems inaccurate. Looks like a typical compact crossover to me.
It's the closest I've seen to a hot hatch, other than the GV60 Magma, maybe.
Absolutely love it! I wish them the best I hope they do well.
I love this! Hilarious the guy says "Omni" and sine oriole see the AMC Gremlin in it: I owned both, and loved them! Can't wait for the next, more affordable models!
Absolutely perfect for me. Love this.
Looks like Rivian cooperates not only with VW but Tonka as well :)
Of all the EV’s out there, Rivian is my favorite. I love that squared off look that they have, and I don’t care if all their models have that look. Maybe one day I will be able to afforded one.
That R3X is incredible looking. It's also the right size for those of us who live in dense urban areas, or who simply don't need an enormous vehicle.
Wow this rivian looks so good hope they do build
Hoping this comes out by them I'm ready to upgrade from my Bolt EUV. It's really the perfect size and looks awesome.
This is going to do really well. Even my wife likes it. I think it's going to really hit a sweet spot in the market. Hey @Rivian, make sure you keep the large wheels/tires! It's key to the good looks!
both the R2 and R3x look amazing, and we want one of each. I really hope they are able to keep the price on target, the cybertruck was such a dissappointment, especially after having one on reserve for so many years
Love it too
Can’t wait for this to hit the market
The R3X is one of the coolest cars I can remember in the last 10 years. It's got a genuinely unique style. While I don't have a direct use for a vehicle with that form factor I'd probably buy one as a vanity purchase (something I almost never do).
Very nice design! I especially like the interior, however, I'm concerned that those hard plastic inserts in the seats would be uncomfortable.
I wish we could get a front bench seat option on these. Would be perfect for a family commuter.
I'm definitely getting the R2 when it comes out.
I would buy one immediately! Love this thing
As a Focus ST owner, I'm ready for an e-hot hatch. Especially if they can make an e-Car without the stupid pricing (< or low $40k?) I thought Tesla had something coming..but, it seemed to have turned into a driverless taxi instead? Looking for small, light weight, good handling, fun e-hot hatch that I can haul a [e]-MTB and/or e-Moto on a rear hitch. Maybe even charge my e-Moto off the vehicle?? Sleep in the back, at a camp site and charge over night? >275 to 300 mile real world range. Fun, AFFORDABLE, practical.
I 100% thought of the Onni when I first saw this new smaller Rivian. That’s not a knock either. I dig old 80’s blocky designs.
"Do you remember the old Omni?" I said the same thing the first time I saw the R3X. Very very similar body shape.
I would absolutely love to own an R3!!!
I luv this car the lights, color, interior what a beautiful car ❤❤❤
Fast acceleration used to be cool, but now it's getting annoying. Nothing needs to go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds on the street. I feel like it's just increasing prices. Three motors? Really? Our EV6 does it in about 4.5 seconds, and the frequency that we actually need even that speed is maybe once a year at most
The R3X is a performance trim. You would be comparing it to the EV6 GT, not one of the other EV6 models.
@@Necrotron My point is, I already don't need to go 0-60 in 4.5s, which is slower. 0-60 in 3 seconds would be useless for me other than a party trick once a year
@whatsongisthis5691 then why comment on a performance vehicle?
The R2 display showed 3.1 miles/ kwh. I wonder if that's accurate... I average 2.1 in my R1t.
MAN.. this looks good. I hope rivian finds success
Has anyone in the feed insured a Rivian? I'm curious how ins. costs compare to ICE in the real world experience.
I've had my R1S for more than a year.....I think the insurance is slightly higher than it was for the '19 RAM 1500 that it replaced but not that much more.
Physical buttons and knobs people!!
The roll down glass reminds me of a 70s ford country square. A modern station wagon taking design elements from its forebears
LOVE IT !! I'm getting first generation Honda CR-V vibes off the design. IMHO one of the most practical and well thought out SUVs ever made. Winner of the Bug Out Vehicle of the Year Award by Prepper Magazine. 👍 No higher accolade.
Rivian, you had me at styling cues from the Delta Integrale and frameless doors.
That new GLH is pretty neat!
Realllllyy like this, silhouette gives those vw rabbit, Subaru dl hatch almost even AMC eagle but in less ugly kind of vibes. Love the size design and functionality they are going for, like a more offroad ionic 5.
Love the design of the R3, I would definitely buy that.
As someone who grew up in the heyday of hot hatches, this is really attractive to me. If it drives as good as it looks -- and driving engagement matters more than performance numbers -- this is one of the few future vehicles I might open my wallet for (and I'm cheap!).
Rivian is knocking it out in regards to design. They just need to hurry up and get to production with a realistic price point. That hatch is a beauty.
They arent expanding their service center presence, how do they expect to grow?
I couldn't love the R3 more! ❤❤❤ it reminds me so much of a 1st gen Rabbit
Square back rocks! Channeling my old 2009 Escape, but even better cargo space. Hope they get it to market soon, as seems like it would sell like hotcakes!
I love the r3x, when it comes out or maybe a couple years after when some used ones are on the market I plan on getting in
