I really like the Lyriq, it looks super nice. It also seems to mark a big turning point with Cadillac, trying to bring Cadillac back to where it was many decades ago. The Lyriq looks like a promising example. I am excited for the future of Cadillac.

Think of Cadillac’s previous concepts - Sixteen, Ciel, Elmiraj, and Escala, you’re going to love the CELESTIQ. It’s a concept-looking super luxurious flagship that’s actually entering production. It will have design features that recall the Cadillac’s of the Art Deco Era. This is a massive car. It will define the Cadillac brand in very short time.

I totally agree, with the EV platforms Cadillac can return to the land yacht era without having to worry about emissions or power delivery. If GM can get those numbers for that Hummer behemoth getting impressive numbers for the Celestiq will be no problem. Also I'm happy they are getting away from the Euro alphanumeric soup and going back to actual names for their cars. It also looks like they are sending the bean counters away and heading back to being a proper halo brand.

    • @justinsmith2598

@@anydaynow01 Plus, since it’s electric, it gives engineers more design freedom. CELESTIQ is unlike anything else on the road. But, it’s still a bit polarizing. CELESTIQ will be powerful, 600 HP will be the base. It comes standard with AWD and four wheel steering, similar to the Hummer setup.

    I preordered a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD.
    Can’t wait till delivery 😢
My Cadillac dealership promised me that there is no overcharge. As spec’d I expect the vehicle to be slightly under $70,000. My lyric will be equipped pretty much the same as the one you just test drove.
The only disappointment in my mind are that you can’t get a red paint option and black is extra.
The primary colors should all be available in the exact same manner they are for the XT five and XT six.

I pre-ordered a 2023 AWD version as a replacement for my current 86,000 mile 2017 F-Pace 35t R-Sport. I am expecting a less sporty ride, sure, but the same (or better) quick acceleration and a quieter cabin. The F-Pace has been great, but I am looking forward to switching to EV.
I had looked at the Model Y (interior just isn't all that nice, IMHO), EV6 (I am 6'1" tall and don't fit in it all that well), e-tron (comparatively low range and slow), Mach-E GT (quick, but looks too weird in the real world and is missing some of the features I want), etc. Compared to most of those it looks like I'll be able to get most of the performance, a FAR better interior, and much more refined ride for close to the same price as the down market ones (EV6, Mach-E (assuming they run out of $7500 credits fairly soon)) and far less than its more direct competitors (e-tron, Y). So, yeah, the Caddy looks fantastic in that sense. Q1 2023 can't come fast enough!

Finally a real drive video! Thanks for doing this.
Ordered the AWD as I felt the weight of the vehicle needed the extra power and we have snow and ice so AWD should be better for those road conditions. Did not go for the larger rims as the tire is low profile. Had an MBZ 350e Sport model with the low profile tires and the potholes her in central Indiana did go well with them and the rims. Yeah, a higher charge rate at home might be useful but you need a 100amp circuit for that and 11KW with 30+ miles per hour seems to be enough for me. I could always go to a DC Fast charge if I needed to get charged quickly say to 80% (would like to know the charge profile when you do a later video) and finish it at home. You did not mention that '23 model comes with a $1500 credit for charging or for installing a L2 charger. I'm going the charger route as this vehicle is an in town or within range trip vehicle. My 2014 Audi Q5 TDI (35 mpg highway) will do the long haul trips.
Some data from GM China the Lyriq. "According to Cadillac China, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, while the Cadillac Lyriq RWD variant, which is motivated by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 340 horsepower, can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.35 seconds." Range for the AWD from the Chinese method was converted to an estimate of 287 miles which is in line with other RWD to AWD comparisons.
Look forward more details on the performance. Looks like Lyriq is a winner.

I was curious about this impact as well. I know the EV charging landscape is always getting better, but are there really that many charging stations around that could, say, charge an EV6 at it's full rate? Doing a search finds 4 in all of WI, where I live, and most of the time it looks like most people aren't getting their max rate or even over 160kW, which is below the max of 190kW for the Lyriq, even at 330kW stations. So, right now at least, the really high charging speeds on other models (maybe not the Y) may not really be as big of an impact as one might think.

Mixed feelings about the styling. Like the overall size and proportions, love the vertical headlights and adjacent "vents". Dislike the whole tail end, including the curvy C-Pillar panels and the taillight placement. Hate the stripy shield "grille" most of all. It just looks busy and arbitrary. If just the shield were striped it would look much better.
The interior is just plain nice. Every brand will be going towards the panoramic display for good reasons. I'm so glad to hear it's an LCD, not an OLED. Burn-in is a real problem for those, and a car display would be just asking for it. As long as the LCD looks good in bright light (often a problem for LCD phones), there's no major advantage to OLED.
The price is truly remarkable. I wish it had faster DC charging, a big reason I'd favor the Genesis over this. I also much prefer the less glitzy GV-60 styling and the size is ample for me. This has a somewhat nicer interior, but not enough that I'd choose it. The Genesis DC Fast Charging is just too compelling for those of us who take road trips. The added range of this is nice, but the Genesis can add those extra miles in a few minutes of charging. So for now the Genesis would be my choice.

In many countries amber is required. It may still be red here and amber there. Very easy to use different LEDs. I wish they'd just standardize on amber. It used to be a styling matter, as they preferred an all-red lighting unit, but with LEDs that really doesn't apply, as an amber LED looks just like a red one when they're off.

Placed my order last week. For me Cadillac really found a sweet spot across the board. My wife is all about styling and could care less about EV technology, and that’s why she’s never been interested in a Tesla. This has a stunning interior, good looking exterior (love the front, back end is a little funky) good range, good charging speeds at an amazing price point. Caddy could have shot for best in class range, charging, ect.. but it would have driven the cost way up. I’m really impressed with the package they put together. Certainly not perfect, but they did enough to get my reservation. As long as the dealer I selected doesn’t try and put a ridiculous market adjustment on it, I think this will be the EV for us.

Hyundai/Kia have the fastest charging in the world and the Ioniq5 and EV6 aren't any more expensive than their competitors. GM and others just need to follow their lead and do it. The investment is up front, but it can be spread over a huge number of vehicles.

    • @Tonar18
      @Tonar18 2 года назад

@@markmiller3279 Totally agree. But I’ll sacrifice a slower charge rate for a more premium (IMO) interior. The charging will seldom be an issue for us. 90% will be charging at home. So a few minutes extra now and again wasn’t a deal breaker. I’m certainly impressed with Hyundai/ Kia technology. My wife could care less. We can both be happy with the Lyriq.

Have a preorder for a 2023 model to replace my 2018 Model 3. Not sure I will get this or the Fisker Ocean or Rivian R1S (both also on preorder). Cadillac did a nice job with this but some obvious trade offs on performance and capabilities versus the other two competitors. I do not love the interior (sorry) and the headroom looks very limited at 38.6 inches. Still, this is a great first outing for Cadillac.

The problem with doing videos like this across both channels is that I end up watching the whole EV Buyers Guide one, then trying to skim through this one to see if there's anything mentioned here that isn't in the other video.
Were people really upset that the main channel was covering EVs a lot? EVs are possibly the most interesting thing happening in the auto world these days, and they are the future of the industry. If anything, I think you should have made an ICE Buyers Guide channel to relegate that content away from the main channel, especially since that content will become less and less relevant with time.

The AWD 500 HP should move this thing to 60 in around 4.5 seconds
For $65k, next year, it would compete directly with the Model Y Performance and EV6 GT
