2023 Cadillac Lyriq | Jay Leno's Garage
I like how honest this guy is. When he does not have an answer he says he doesn't know. He does not assume anything
He's an engineering manager.🤩
That’s how engineers are built
I so agree! I love honest more than anything. 🙏
That is an engineer.
As opposed to a salesman that says…I know your ready to buy but I’m not done talking yet?🤔
I'm an engineer at GM and I work on the LYRIQ among other programs too. Very cool to see it being reviewed now! I'm glad it's being well received.
I want one, was keen on a KIA ev6 - But this is better and at roughly the same price - compared to the ev6 with 325 hp. A shame that there is no news about when and if it becomes available in Europe.
GM should export this - I reckon it’d do very well in the Australian market with its range
Can Cadillac please make EVs with normal looking trunks? I cannot stand the melted look of these newer cars. There's no depth or definition to the rear.
Is any of the tech found in the Lyriq going to be brought into Chevrolet or Buick vehicles?
Well done
I love how Jay features engineers instead of marketing people. Marketing people have their role but with respect, they all talk the same and use too many buzzwords. The engineer was genuine! This Cadillac looks great. Well done.
Genuine engineers don’t have the ability to lie or fluff anything. They say what they know, they tell the truth, or say they don’t know. I respect that so much.
Jay is great. His comments reflect alot of typical Cadillac buyer.... interest in styling & materials quality, the library quiet, and the rolling smoothness.
My favorite part of this car was the guy showing it. Lol he's not overdoing it, just straight forward no nonsense. The honesty is refreshing
I think it's because Cadillac and GM know they have a hit on their hands, no need to oversell it or over promise the vehicle's capability.
An improvement over the typical loudmouth alpha-male types GM usually sends out.
@@OneNationUnderGod. Listen, I might be getting ahead of myself here, but could this Cadillac LYRIQ very well be the greatest car ever designed in all of automotive history???
@@costco_pizza I hope so, because we own one. Lol
@@kimwalker108 Wow! Congrats to you and I hope you enjoy many years out of it!
This guy is so authentic and did a great job presenting his work. Refreshing to get to hear from an actual engineer; let the marketing guys stick to their real-people ads and the giant doors..
he could not even engineer a Flintstone car powered by Feet.
Yes, but he didn't know the vehicle's top speed, if the tires were specifically made for that vehicle, etc. For his title at Cadillac and profession in a lot of ways he was clueless!
@@bobjohnson1587 - Could have EASILY found out , by mashing the Accelerator pedal in SPORT mode.

@@bobjohnson1587 Totally agree. Not a very real car guy engineer, that even is the car project Manager. He should know in general, all about this car, and of course the expected answers Jay was going to ask. Just simple questions.

I love how down to earth Jay is. We all know he's got an astounding amount of money and he could have easily been smug and said how cheap $60,000 is, but he's a man of the people and realizes that to us, the average Joe's working average jobs, 60 grand is a lot of money. I honestly do respect him.
Too bad most policians aren't half as knowledgeable as Jay.
@@savage22bolt32 You might want to spell correctly, especially when shitting on anyone else for their Intelligence…just a thought 🤷♂️
Lol "down to earth".
Yeah, so "down to earth" 🤣 That's why his peers don't respect him. He made a pile of money off of making over 450 jokes about a 22 year old college intern, and helped to ruin her life. He has yet to apologize for it. He's the biggest d-bag of a human going.
For sure nur he does kiss behind because it looks nothing like a caddy and is ugly. He is totally politically correct, like it or not.
Dude pulled through like a champ. You can tell he's under more stress than he's ever felt being there with Jay and crew. He's doing better than I would. I'd have seized up lol.
Nice to see an engineer showing the car he helped to make. and honest too like an an engineer usually is. 😊👍
Nicolae Miu was an engineer when he stabbed those 4 kids in Wisconsin. Honestly.
@@theupscriber65 wtf bro, does that really matter? The person could've been a teacher and the result would be the same

This is the best plug GM could get for its first compelling BEV. And deserved, IMO.
One of the best conversations ever, GM sent the right guy for the demo. I hope he got lots of pictures and an autograph for his son.
I think Cadillac has a winner here. As ever Thanks Jay 😊
gm Cadillac LYRIQ will be a massive FLOP , no one is buying LUX cars anymore.
@@markplott4820 What are they buying?
I'm tired of "powerful and aggressive" looking cars. I want a car that is designed to look "beautiful".
I'm like Jay, a fan of the old school ride of automobiles that is so hard to find in new vehicles. The Cadillac Lyriq will certainly get a look and test drive, just because Jay reviewed it as ... " It drives like a Cadillac should. " If someone has complaint that it's not sporty and ridged enough ... then go look at just about every car on the market for 2022/23 ... they all ride like buck-board wagons! Look out Cadillac, you just might win me back!
This guy did an excellent job as a presenter. He is very knowledgeable and humble. Some of the marketing guys especially from Dodge I just want to slap.
I think you have some unresolved anger issues lol.
Dodge has been in the winning seat the last decade. Style and performance. Electric kings will be tesla!
@@joshgoodwin9784 Kings? Telsa is the king as for today but even Elon knows that Tesla will be pushed back as it is not a drivers car.

always thought that "luxury cruisers" are the perfect niche for EVs. i am stunned that Benz or Rolls didnt go there first. such a perfect fit
benz did
Mercedes have the EQ range of cars/suv's etc that you can buy, Rolls has the Spectre coming out apparently next year. Most marques have EV's for sale now or n the very near future as they'd be insane if they didn't I think, suicide otherwise.
Yup. Typically, the main downside of "luxury cruisers" is that they are gas-guzzlers; EV absolutely makes them perfect.
@@yips_way when everybody else already did it and even in affordable niches
@@yips_way from a price point Cadillac seams to be a bargain with the ev credits. Own a e class now and don’t see myself affording the eqe.
I enjoyed listening to this guy's speech. He was so polite and honest
I love that they included a dedicated stop for the cargo cover under the rear floormat! It's a small touch but it really exemplifies the level of engineering Cadillac put into this car.
Cadillac just copied that idea from BMW. Their SUV's have had that since 2017.
Just like the Subaru Outback has had for many years.
Rav4 Since 2006!
I preordered my Lyriq AWD on the first order session and I WANT IT NOW.
I'm not a fan of Cadillacs (recent ones anyways) but I like this a lot. And a great interview. I like the nod to the EV-1 as I worked for the company that made the battery pack, Ovonic. Jay mentions the success of the Prius. There was a huge lawsuit between Ovonic and Toyota over tech designs of the NiMH battery that was used in the development of the Prius. The court finally decided upon a Solomonesque judgement in the form of a tech sharing arrangement. Ovonic turned down the opportunity to gain Toyotas knowledge out of sheer arrogance. Guess which company is still around? Ovonic went on to become Cobasys which went on to become Bosch Battery Systems, producer of the battery pack for many ill fated cars including the Fiat 500e. Bosch closed the plant in 2019.
The EV1 was by all accounts a success for the intended lower range leased commuter car, it was almost too successful a trial and that's why it was killed off. It put back the domestic industry for 10+ years until Tesla gave them the wake up call kick un the pants they needed.
If it was ever a real contest? Someone should at least mention how Toyota enjoyed the understated advantage of damn near 100 years of wartime manufacturing experience, followed up by over half a century of growth fueled trade war experience, in its rise as a cut throat industrial giant…8)
did you mean "SolomoNesque" or Solomoesque ?
@@greenergenes Solomonesque meaning (if I understand correctly), cut the baby in half. Ironically, sounds like one party was not ok with that.
The 2020 fiat 500e is a hit here in europe
I never thought I would be surprised about the price of a new Cadillac but this seems like a lot of bang for the buck.
Indeed it seems to be an amazing vehicle for the price. I wonder how many will actually go out the door for that price though?
@@MimicoBungalow As far as I know, pre-orders for the Lyriq were sold out in seconds.

I think Jay speaks the best english in the World. Very understandable, smooth, calm talking. I learned a lot from him when I learned the language watching many Tonight Shows in the 90's. Very nice car! Greetings from Hungary!
I just completed training on the LYRIQ, at Monticello Raceway in NY. The drive is incredible. Compared to the other offerings in the EV market, it is a stand out. The interior is beautiful(especially when compared to the drab minimalist Tesla interior). My only disappointment is that we have to wait to have them available...welcome to 2022 in the new car business! They are putting a lot of care into NOT hurrying this project along.
Great to see Cadillac staying relevant.
in 2022 , Cadillac is completely IRRELEVANT.
its a DINOSAUR car made with Horse & Buggy technology.
What an awesome looking Cadillac. I can see this being bought like crazy.
BTW, I think this beats Tesla in value of luxury and design with performance for the money. Way to go, GM.
Can’t wait until our AWD version comes in next spring!! We saw the concept at Amelia Island last year and fell in love.
Not sure what the future holds as far as all electric by 2030 but I do know Jay is going to have one of the most impressive collections in the world!
Going to? Jays collection has been world class for decades.
Limited by supply chain Production capacity. That will be the same problem going on until 2030.
@@Neojhun it will be worse. These batteries don't come from thin air. The world will be more polluted because of these. All the mining and the required infrastructure. These 🤡
FINALLY!!! A Cadillac in touch with its luxury roots. So tired of carmakers losing the essence that established them in the first place.
Exactly. Cadillacs used to be status symbols. They used to be the american equivalent of a Mercedes S class. The interiors on their old cars were probably the best in the world. Then at one point they started to cheap out and stopped innovating. Their interiors were full of ugly plastic and they still tried to market themselves as a luxury brand. Younger people dont view Cadillac as a luxury brand now
"You don't need to go fast. If you're important, people will wait for you."
I like this guy. Feels like a no-nonsense guy. Great choice for the show.
To the Cadillac people reading this (we know you are). I never thought in a hundred years that I would look or even buy one. This model changed the game for me. That price point (60k) is spot-on (if the dealerships don't mark it-up to 100K).
For a guy like me who buys new and sale 1 year before the warranty is over,, this car now makes sense to purchase.
Good job on this.
too EXPENSIVE for what you get , SHORT RANGE and no PERFORMANCE.
you are better off with the Standard MODEL S.
I wish they still made the RWD Short range model S 60 , that was a Great car.
@@markplott4820 #1 What car electric or not can you get for 60K that comes close to this Caddy's levels.
#2 I drive 40 miles a day. What do I care if the range is "Only" 380 miles? Most people drive less than 200 miles a week.
#3 I have a track car. Who buys a Caddy to break the Nürburgring's record?
#4 At that price point, when I resale the car after 3-4 years, the pool of buyer is higher as it's not a 60K secondhand car like the Plad will be.
#5 An Audi A6 base model comes in at 90K with 187HP.
#6 I don't like Teslas as they are not very comfortable and the interiors look like a modern "K" car. I respect the company for what they did and what they are doing but, it's not for me. Cadillac got this one spot on.

I love that jay said "I'm not the guy that wants a truck that drives like a Ferrari but can carry lumber, I rather have a truck and a Ferrari"... You know...because he can afford them lol
Funny he would say that, being that's exactly what a SUV is...
Most of my driving is in thickly settled areas where you really can't drive too fast safely, so trucks are nice because they look good just going slow. If you're in a fast car going slow you just look deprived out there.
@@dbspecials1200 the alternative argument to the truck in traffic is it uses even more fuel than it would otherwise (and I have one).
Odd, since Jay doesn't own a Ferrari!
I think it’s would be much better to have a truck and a Ferrari then try and combine them in one vehicle. Sure you can have a luxury truck that could also be used for carrying cargo or a luxury SUV that has more carrying room then a standard sedan. But if your the type of person who needs a truck but also wants and can afford a Ferrari then you problem can afford to have both. Most Ferrari lovers probably don’t need to own both and can rent a truck if they ever needed one for some special occasion. How many people really want and/or need a vehicle that performs like a Ferrari but also has a larger carrying capacity like a truck. Is there really much of a market for a Ferrari SUV or Ferrari Truck?
Incredible! It's always nice to see what GM is capable of when it uses all of its IMMENSE resources great things are possible, optimistic about the future about the GM if they continue to invest!
I love the Tesla, but with no dealerships anywhere near me, or real support from the other EVs, but WOW--this Cadillac is an amazing bargain compared to Tesla and the others and a Cadillac dealership is right by my house!!

Less moving parts makes for less expensive, more reliability, and less maintenance. Batteries are the biggest cost but they are coming down. Who ever comes out with the next revolutionary battery will make trillions both in EV’s and portable devices.
Those batteries are customer killers your warranty will run out before the 8-10 year mark and then you are guaranteed a 20k+ bill for replacement parts that you can't fix yourself.

EXACTLY! Thankyou..... robots. i knew there was a word for it but i just couldn't get past 'boxy'. i DO hope that there are actual -designs- coming in the future. these EVs all look the bloody same. it seems the only thing that sort of sends them apart is how weird they can make headlights. thats about it, while the rest of it looks like a large golf cart. i think cadillac needs to focus a little more on it's marquee. it doesn't LOOK like a cadillac anymore and one thing about cadillacs over the decades; no matter how much they changed there was always, always a look about them where most everyone knew it was a Caddy. @B.L. Alley GM built electric cars decades before Tesla. If GM is serious about EV's, and this video seems to show they are, I think GM will easily compete with Tesla, or any other electric car company.
@@substance1 Umm, GM isn't competing with Tesla anytime soon. Right now they need to worry about Hyundai and Ford.
@@substance1 Tesla isn't going bankrupt.. however GM might file for bankruptcy (again) before the end of the decade if things don't change for them. They have been selling less and less vehicles each year since 2016.
@B.L. Alley The car companies have to build vehicles that the consumers want. I know EV 1. It was a successful test, but at the time the market wasn't there. To release a new vehicle, a lot of resources are needed, like supporting the platform and supplying the vehicle with parts and service for many years. It's still not a sure bet that electric cars will even be a large market going forward.
@B.L. Alley If that's how you feel, you should create your own electric vehicle company and you'll be very successful.

I actually love that they put the ducks in there, not too many people will know what it is for only the people who know the history. This is one of my fav electric cars.
Now they need to put the ducks, and the color back into the crest where they belong... I want the crown and the laurel wreath too, but, I get it...To those who say, "we have to keep the logo 'up to date' and 'hip' and 'relevant', I say, "Mercedes Benz." I rest my case.
I noticed the charge door opened more smoothly than in other videos I've seen. Not as it should be, but definitely less jerky.
Love how this car has pretty lights all over the outside ! My 35th birthday is coming up soon ! I hope my mommy and daddy buy me one along with a new gaming system !
Just here to say I friggin love you Jay Leno! Don’t stop doing what you’re doing! You are awesome 👍!
That's a great car.. And an honest engineer too..
That's what will keep America up front in the EV market
The "bean counters" have always held the purse strings in Detroit. Amazing how the engineers at GM have "value engineered" this new Cadillac. But, we'll have to see just how good the build quality is.
Got to be better than Tesla which is all over the place with build quality. (Don’t tell the fanboys. )
@@rcpmac That's true, Tesla owners hate to hear any hate, but the fact of this car is that Cadillac was outclassed by Lexus, Acura, and Infinity years ago...in many ways. Hell, even Hyundais and Kias have better quality ratings than Cadillac lol
I get build quality issues with Tesla ramping up manufacturing and being the relatively new player. I would hope gm with their history in vehicle manufacturing don’t have a lot of teething issues.
Well, if it takes after the Volt, it should be very awesome.
With the electric vehicles quality control is a lot easier to manage. I do quality control on engine dressing. With the electric motors it cuts the parts and people down dramatically.
I can't hardly wait to see one in person out in the real world.
Looks great & low maintenance, impressive!
I love the PURE MICHIGAN license plate!
