FIRST LOOK: Cadillac Celestiq - America’s £300k Rolls-Royce And Bentley Rival
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 май 2024
- You’re looking at the most luxurious Cadillac ever, the new £300k Celestiq, a limousine leviathan aimed squarely at Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
What do you get for all that money? The most technologically advanced vehicle in Cadillac’s history, which means everything from a 55-inch HD screen across the dash, via trick chassis systems, to active aero. It also rides on GM’s Ultium Platform, a dedicated EV architecture that in Celestiq guise mates an 111kWh battery with two motors, for four-wheel drive and over 600bhp.
Tech is only half the story though. Each Celestiq will be hand-built at the new Artisan Center [sic], at General Motors’ Global Technical Center [sic] campus, in Michigan, USA. And only after each one has been customised by the owner - in collaboration from Caddy’s designers - at the nearby Cadillac House at Vanderbilt.
It’s an ultimate flagship to lead Caddy into the electric era, so we sent Top Gear’s deputy editor Ollie Kew over to America to take a look.

Name your favourite Cadillac...
The CTS model from 2008 to 2013.
Cimarron, Cetera, or Allante 🤡
I honestly have no idea (I'm not American)
My dad owned a 1980 Coupe DeVille. All the rusted holes were covered by tape that flapped in the wind as he drove along. The driver window was held up by a stick that we jammed inside the door. The 100-pound solid-steel trunk fell on my dad's head and he was never the same after that.

True of almost every single ultra luxury vehicle. Older Bentleys, Rolls, high end Mercs, and BMWs are only worth a tiny fraction of their new cost.
Don't think so, I'd bet they'll make under 100 of them.

Just look at the Maybach.
If anyone worries about that, they cannot afford it.
When you find a Cadillac with a goddess emblem from the past for cheap, you let me know.
How did someone green light that styling?
I think it works. I have a Lyriq. The rear panels look a little odd, but it's none the less interesting.
It is absolutely ghastly.
Looks awesome to me. Modern ICE appliance cars have set a bad trend. Soo bland and unoffensive. Industry is healing.
Looks like a big Citroen
Definitely looks French.
I said the same thing. I agree.
Very strong vibes of Numero 9 concept
Yep, an SM
I'd agree with that although that's not necessarily an insult. Big Citroën have always been good looking and historically have been some of the most luxurious vehicles on the road. They're still comfy today although they're not a big fan of continuing to work year after year...

guys stop talking with people and show actually a car properly. 21 minutes of video and the car is showing only 5 minutes of it
This isn't the full production yet. TG will eventually do a real world test drive of it once it has gone on sale.
It's good to hear the actual thoughts of engineers and designers though, anyone can read a spec sheet and then do a boring drag race and burnouts like other channels.
@@anydaynow01 so maybe makes sense to make it 50%-50%? Show the actual car review and combine it with the interview of people who made the car but not just talking.
And for that reason these videos get a 👎 from me every time!
100% agree
The front half looks so nice, though the rear 40 metres of the car look awful.
I disagree, the rear quarters remind of the original Citroen DS or the Jensen Interceptor. These are some of the most beautifully avant garde designs in automotive history. That said, beauty is subjective. I can understand why some might not love the design.
@@AkioWasRight the rear quarter of the Jenson is exactly what ruins it for me
glad they made a unique design rather than sticking the the same old large luxury SUV crap found everywhere
-Exclaimed, the car designer.
I don't completely agree, but you did make me giggle and that's worth a lot.
Literally nobody in the US thinks of Cadillac as the "Rolls Royce" of Automobiles anymore. Not since the early 70's
sad truth i think. i would probably say cadillac is one of the most luxurious if not most luxurious american car brand, but even cadillac is still far far away from a common european luxury brand like bmw or mercedes imo (not to be like everyone else and put them on a pedestal). i think americans are far more concerned with power and sound over luxuries when it comes to cars. atleast most people i would think, feel free to correct.
@@sammich136 I agree. Cadillac is lost for image and trying too hard to be a sports type car.
They're lost. Good bye Cadillac.
@@sammich136 You never sat in a Cadillac Escalade I presume ?
I can unfortunately tell you that nowadays, outside of the US, most people consider them tasteless and badly built.. Those who like old timers of course think more fondly of the brand because of some of the classics. I personally would be extremely glad to see them doing good again, and I must say, this car is way less boring and less ugly than for example all of the Mercedes EQ models or the BMW XM. And I think this needs to be the the market they are targeting. There is no way anyone would take this over a Bentley or a Rolls, especially if you are trying to aim at an audience where money does not matter.
Qualitatively speaking, I am hopeful that they can keep up with the likes of Merc and BMW, I am sure it would be possible, we'll just all have to see in practice
The car will basically be a guaranteed international failure if they try to compete with the true luxury brands. The only people who would be interested, would probably me American multimillionaires with a liking for the brand, or some form of patriotic intent making them chose this.
If they aim at having a possibly better deal than upper business class cars. This would get sales everywhere
Cost to manufacture that glass roof embedded with antennae elements would be outrageous. And all done for a patent to remove the antennae from the shark fin - and put a camera in it instead. Genius.
Out of all the amazing concept cars Cadillac has had in recent history, this has got to be one of the oddest ones they could have picked to be produced
Why this and not Cien? 😢
Its not a concept 😊
Agreed, their other ones were all so much more interesting and didn't have the same power train, power and range as every car today including a Kia and a Hyundai. I found that they didn't spend enough time on the interior to let us understand how this is any nicer than a 100k car while costing 3x as much. I get that the manufacturing processes are different, but the end result is what matters and at first glance it doesn't look any more fancy than most other high end luxury cars.
It’s hard to differentiate now that everyone is making SUVs. I drove a nice Audi SUV and a Japanese SUV back to back. Now that all cars are nice, it wasn’t that big of a difference. It certainly wasn’t $40K difference.
LOL! I was thinking the same....
A rare instance where it actually feels like they’re releasing the concept car
But you wish they hadn't :)
@@screenm0nkeynah what, this is great. I'd have this over an SUV halo car any day
@@rumblezerofiveYeah. Agreed. Not a fan of SUVs, myself. But this. Really? Can you imagine the devaluation. I mean, if it has an ICE then it might not lose so much money but this thing is going to be worth about $60k after three years. I guess the people buying a $300k Cadillac probably don't care :)
Looks almost identical to the concept, and yet strangely the concept car looks quite good whereas the production car looks sh!t. That’s quite an achievement
Audi launching RS GT felt the same!

My favorite Cadillac's are from the mid 1950s through to the late 1960s.

I guess that's true for most people. Those cars were distinctive and a real statement. No wonder they have become iconic.
The 3D Car render artists are going to have an absolute field day with this car just like they did with the BMW M3/M4 grills.
Man, Cadillac really didn’t want to leave any blind spot on the table when they designed this one.
Imagine doing a u turn in that bih
This is going to be a major flop.
These halo car for mainstream brands usually aren’t meant to make a profit. They are there as brand booster or ego boosters.
That being said, the Maybach and BMW 7 at around 200k will be the better car and cheaper.
You can’t compete with a Rolls or a Bentley.
dont you understand the simple term "flop"@@zeedustrakok
It's not a flop if it makes people think about Cadillac again. This isn't a car that's supposed to sell, this is the kind of car that's supposed to get onto posters so that people peek into the showrooms and hopefully pick up something more reasonable.

I agree.. and Ill be having auto nightmares with this horror in my mind ..gosh its ugly ..and Cadillac doesnt listen to their old customers they just create stupid looking concept cars
couldn't agree more
As another commenter said, this car is definitely a HUGE statement of intent and major return to form from Cadillac however the decision to do it with this particular design I feel is not going to go over well with the general public and may, in turn, prevent other more desirable designs to ever make it off the drawing board due to the failure of going this route. There is just something off about it. It's sort of like you really really want to like it but can't, almost as though it's unfinished and is missing its identity. It's definitely missing that "oh I got to have one of those" vibe that brings passion to a car and its brand. I just don't see this model being a success whatsoever and really wish they would have done this with perhaps an SUV. It looks like a station wagon of the future but one that doesn't really know it's a station wagon. It's like they tried to make a 1950s Cadillac with today's safety and design requirements and this is what we get. I want to love it but I just can't and I'm sad about that (not really). I think Cadillac should create their version of a G wagon and should have used these beautiful materials and metals in a model like a G63 over something that looks like this. Imagine a more affordable G wagon with these Cadillac interior features. I'd be the first in line to get one.
Holy C-pillar Batman!
Surprised he didn't have a single question for the designer about the proportions, the taillights...
He was likely coached on which questions not to ask.... and signed off an agreement pre-interview(s)
Because he wasn't the designer. The designers already had a small mock up model done before he even knew about it.
Just could not keep a straight face doing it

I'm not sure if that was just a concept or a very small production run of maybe an Eldorado or something? + I'm so thankful for the progression of technology;; I love the fact that most of the latest car makes & models have pretty much eliminated the very obvious, safe but kinda clunky, after thought like front & rear bumpers. From the bars that were visibly attached to the frame at the invention of the car to the huge art deco era chrome statement pieces, to the 'obvious afterthought' eyesores slapped onto early Lamborghini models..... they were for safety reasons but they simply become the norm
