I am almost certain that the sweet spot for EVs is as much car you can get for as little money with a use case that allows you to charge at home or for free whenever charging is needed.... with the caveat that DC fast charging capability is required if any longer trips may happen. I probably got that from TFL. Since my better half drives an EV6, I appreciate Mary and Jen's insight on these vehicles. Maybe TFLL (Ladies) would be a good addition to the company.
Again, a nice change of pace having Mary and Jen. I love Mary’s reactions to the realities of EV roadtrips (Supercruise, charging costs, etc) TFL should definitely keep them in the regular rotation of hosts. As for the truck.. 98k is A Lot, but you get a lot for that. It’s a great truck with a lot of capability. Personally, it’s a little steep for me, I’m waiting for something in the 60k range, and I think we’ll get there eventually. Overall, a great video! Thanks Mary and Jen for taking us along. Great Video! People act surprised when the range on EVs doesn't turn out accurate. However, this also happens with range estimates on gas cars. TFL test, test the range accuracy on both an EV and gas vehicle in different driving conditions.
Convenience costs money. I live about 15 minutes away from that charger they used, and I have a level 2 charger in my garage, and at my current electricity rates it would cost me about $17 to charge it from completely empty to 100%. That 400+ mile range would last me nearly a month as well.
No question, with gas at $3(ish) road trips are about 20% more expensive. BUT charging at home is about 80% less expensive than gas, and save a ton of time by not having to actually ever stop at a gas station. Just plug it in and go to sleep. Being able to charge at home, or work is key. I have a 77kw EV that gets about 30-40% higher efficiency than this giant truck. So charging my type of EV is a way less expensive, quicker chore. Plus, it seems my part of the country has better charging options than most other areas. Point is, EV’s are a great option for some, not as much for others.
Mary - your genuine reactions to real life experiences (finding a charger, blue cruise) was fun to watch. As others have said…enjoying the content from the women. 👍
Rivians Teslas and Lucids don’t have car play and no one EVER complains or even brings it up so GM figured they could get away with it. That’s what happens when consumers have inconsistent standards.
My Blazer EV doesn't have Android Auto or Carplay, but the only apps I needed were Maps and Spotify, which are in the Play store in the vehicle. It supports Waze as well and Podcasts are streamed using Bluetooth. So far it hasn't been much of a pain forgoing Android Auto. The biggest benefit is Google Maps knows the state of charge and can route to chargers appropriately.
GM thinks they can create a better experience than Apple/Android, or so they claim. In all reality, they're likely just using it to harvest more and more data to sell.
I bought my Chevy Bolt EV because I had a 160-mile daily commute three to four days a week, and a basic trip to the store is 80+ miles round trip. So range certainly is important, but that being said, I do not consider trucks to be "commuter cars." I think one of the reasons we're starting to see so many people trade their Cybertrucks back in is because many of them weren't already "truck folk." They bought it because it was a Tesla, not because they needed a truck. Most people who are new to trucks don't fully understand the compromises they'll have to make as a result of buying a fullsize truck. Even affluent people with large properties and room for the trucks find that their routine drives and shopping trips are more difficult. Plus, going from a 4 mi/kWh EV commuter car to a 2 mi/kWh EV commuter truck is literally doubling your cost per mile, not counting the more expensive upkeep for the vehicle. The story that doesn't get told is that, for every grizzled farmer or ranch hand you see driving a fullsize truck, there's a Honda Civic, Toyota Prius, etc. parked back at home that they use for grocery shopping, parts runs, etc. It's mostly suburban office workers larping as rural folk who you see driving around cities and on the freeways in fullsize trucks (most often super clean with empty beds).
There is literally not a single farmer or ranch hand doing grocery shopping and parts run in a Toyota Prius. Have you seen ranches? They have long dirt roads with potholes, mud, and snow and unplowed public roads to drive.
You’re not wrong about doing shopping trips, etc. in a big vehicle. I have a lightning and I’d much rather have something smaller. And don’t get me started what it’s like to go shopping/into town in our diesel crew cab long bed.
@@is6566 Yes, I've been working on big farms and ranches since I was in Junior High. I literally have no idea what you think you're imagining. You don't think farmers get deliveries to their doors from FedEx, UPS, etc.? News flash, we even have electricity and running water. Yes, a lot of ranches have long, gravel driveways and crappy roads, but they are certainly drivable in a basic FWD car. That's why I joke about doing more "off roading" in my Bolt EV than most truck owners do. Maybe you live in a city and this is simply what you imagine farm and ranch houses to look like. 🤷♂
@@is6566 The way you describe it, every ranch house is at the end of the Rubicon Trail. The point is, most delivery services will not deliver to homes that don't have paved/gravel driveways off of maintained roads (i.e., roads that small, FWD cars manage just fine). Sure, only about half the UPS drivers will drive down our drive way, especially during winter. They'll usually just walk the packages down.
I love watching y’all’s take on these videos. You’re not overly dramatic like Tommy or Andre but it’s real world testing and shows the biggest issues with owning a non Tesla ev.
It appears you were driving in off road mode on the highway. Based on when you were showing driving mode. Unless editing was displaying a different moment in time. This would affect efficiency significantly
Love TFL's "slice of life" realism with these EVs. Good example of daily use context delivered in an effortlessly entertaining way helped by the tons of charisma emanating from these ladies.
I like everything about this video except the public charging experience, well that and the price tag of that truck. The cost of public charging is so much higher than the cost of gasoline for the same range.
Great video ladies. As usual. I had a Tesla with FSD and my stress levels would spike so high when using it that my hands and feet would actually get sweaty and cold. Over the course of 3 years I owned the car, I used FSD like 3 times. And mostly to check out the “new release” Tesla would put out. It is terrifying to me that people just use it on a daily basis. Also, now that I don’t have the Tesla anymore (I now have a rivian), I’ve been charging on roadtrips at none-Tesla chargers and… yeah… it’s aight at best. I just go to Tesla chargers, which rivian has access to and the only reason why I considered non-tesla EV.
I really like the practical testing of these vehicles. Keep them coming. These 2 present the experience very well. They made the viewing fun and believable. A big no on this for MSRP alone, although it does look like GM improved upon what Ford started doing with EV trucks. I get the super cruise lack of trust. The 1st time I used radar cruise control that would take you down all the way to a stop, I didn't trust it and had my foot over the the brake every time I let it stop me waiting for it to fail. Took quite awhile for me to trust it.
LOVE the truck. The price is nuts... I drive the AT4 and look forward to the AT4 EV that is coming soon but EV prices have to come down. Have to say I like the interior of the Silverado better than than the Sierra EV. Just personal taste. Thanks ladies your use of the vehicles is always very realistic.
Once again, more Mary and Jen. Great team, always fun to watch. FWIW, the base Leaf that TFL leased (the super deal) is, unfortunately, the worst version for winter. The SV Plus has a much larger battery and a heat pump for the cabin as well as both a heated steering wheel and heated seats. All together, that means much better winter range than the base Leaf. My day to day vehicles are a truck and a Leaf SV Plus. I drive them both in Vermont winters.

You have to get her a level 2 charger for her home. The EV ownership experience is totally skewed not having one. The best part of owning a EV is charging to full every night and never going to a gas station. Also in Michigan I only pay .07 cents per kwh plus I get 10.00 a month off my bill.
The girls are killing it with the reality of the piano black to the struggle to charge. I don't hate EV as they have a different job for consumers. I can't wait till they make EV charging perfect like gas pumps. I'm sure gas pumps had there issues way back then. I still see pumps down when I fill my ICE truck. Option are great and this will push everything to be almost space ready one day, lol
So in order to avoid range anxiety you have to spend almost $100K and drive a truck because it's the only vehicle footprint that easily allows the engineers to hide the oversized battery pack. I wonder how much bed depth is lost to the battery pack and how much towing capacity is reduced? You need to tow something, you say? I guess the range anxiety is back.

0.56$? Wow, that for sure was an ad hoc price and there must be better plans. I pay 0.29 € (0.30 $) in Germany with my hyper charger plan. And Germany has insane energy prices.
Is it just me or is her math no mathing? 413 miles before starting and driving 111 miles, it should be at 302 miles of range left not 312. She said that twice throughout the video. So the estimated range is closer than they stated.
I don't care what anyone says, That is not a Silverado, that is an Avalanche. And that will never be a good work vehicle. So how is this cheaper than gas? $53 bucks to fill 40% of the battery. That would be around $120 if down around 10% to 80%. And it would have taken them oer 2 hours to charge. I can fill my Truck for $80 at current prices and it takes 5 minutes.
Get an EV, they said. You won’t pay for gas, they said. You’ll only pay for electricity. But once the majority of people start driving EVs, electricity might end up costing more than gas.
It is a given electricity will be the same or more than gas for sure. EV owners forget that roads taxes in gas will be moved to EV’s sooner than later. The gov always finds a way to get their taxes 🤷♂️
@@mcsike7264How? With coal or natural gas? Until nuclear or something similar electricity prices will continue to rise. Teslas superchargers prices aren’t far off depending on area. This is the problem with America, people think we need bigger, heavier, less efficient tanks! Shame on you TFLEV for giving her that monstrosity, she could have been just fine in a Model Y or KIA EV6.
You are going to need about 225 kWh to fill the battery from empty to full, including charging losses. The average US price for electricity is 16.83 cents per kWh. That is less that $38 for a full charge. You are looking at over $100 per full charge if you do public fast charging. Possibly a lot less if you charge at home overnight. If you can't charge at home you shouldn't buy an EV for savings.
@@flufflybird $.56/kwh. For those that say “charge at home”, you’re delusional because this is truck, not an around town grocery getter. Trucks usually have 30,000mi/year or more put on them and don’t stay geofenced around your home.
She can’t do an 80 mile commute with a car that has 160 mile range?? With the cost of public charging, seems like it’d only take a few months to recoup the cost of a home charger.
All I want is an EV as cheap as the Nissan Leaf with the range of the Silverado EV . (GM should have brought back the Avalanche name for this vehicle) I'm not asking for much. 🤣
They're not great at math...they 413 minus 111 is 302....so it was off by 11 miles. For an EV that's not terrible. My tesla was bad at predicting range...
In my opinion it is supremely practical. You have bigger than an 8' full size bed when you need it and a crew cab that fits 5 adults the rest of the time without the wheelbase of a crew cab long box truck. 450 miles of range is more than enough for my purposes, especially when you consider that it is capable of DC fast charging at 350kw. I do agree that the price is too high, though. Hopefully, some lower trim levels will show up on dealer lots soon with the bed to cab pass through.
I am almost certain that the sweet spot for EVs is as much car you can get for as little money with a use case that allows you to charge at home or for free whenever charging is needed.... with the caveat that DC fast charging capability is required if any longer trips may happen. @1:00 EARLY 2000 🤔💭20' 22-24' RIM 🤘🏽😎
🥱💤MARY RAPPER'S HAVE RAPPED ABOUT MANY DIFFERENT SIZE RIMS SO MUCH THEIR'S NO SHAME IN THEIR GAME BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY LIVE IT BEFORE CHEVY PUT IT INTO THEIR OWN PRODUCTION VEHICLE'S.
You have to get her a level 2 charger for her home. The EV ownership experience is totally skewed not having one. The best part of owning a EV is charging to full every night and never going to a gas station. Also in Michigan I only pay .07 cents per kwh plus I get 10.00 a month off my bill.
2024 Ram cost me $180 to fill in my area with 93. For reference.
They are fun. Nicely done.
How much would a comparable gas truck cost to fill up for the same number of miles?
Holy upgrade Batman!!!
Girls calling Bose speakers bad is inside I’m sorry I quit watching it at that.
Only the most expensive speaker you can buy, but you know just run up the mill
8:08 .."It's HUUUUGEEE" ....in the words of Austin Powers, international man of mystery....."Oh, Behave!!!!" "YEAH BABY"!!!!!!! ...I love 17.7 " Screens ..."YEAH BABY"!!!!!
Well, with the aerodynamic quality of a brick, you can't expect good mi/kWh... and then it costs something.
But if you like it, enjoy it.
When I was a kid, they put 13 inch wheels on cars.
413 miles of range, 111 miles driven. “Should have had 312 left.”??? 😂😂😂 great video!
I love the fact that the Leaf "wasn't a a great commuter car", then what the heck is it good for? I guess a 100K Chevy is the answer, which admittedly isn't affordable by said commuter or 98% of the rest of us. Wonder if car companies are listening???? You guys are saying the quite part out loud, thank you!
Mary is my favourite.
Also, love these two, way better than the grumpy old man.
0.56$? Wow, that for sure was an ad hoc price and there must be better plans. I pay 0.29 € (0.30 $) in Germany with my hyper charger plan. And Germany has insane energy prices.
I was just in Maui Hawaii and found some level 2 chargers that were $1.35 per kWh. Count your blessings.
Looks like the Chevy Avalanche . Nice looking truck!
I love GMs EV fleet of vehicles ❤❤
Long range with good efficiency is cool. Without good efficiency is not so cool.
That thing is not efficient😂 being that big gm just strapped a 200+kw batter to it and call it a day 😂
After watching all of these EV videos - I am so glad I own a Tesla. I never have any problems and the car directs you exactly to where you need to go
This truck also tells you on the nav where all the nearby chargers are. You can't blame their trouble navigating a parking lot on the truck.
I understand that. But it seems like half the time the chargers have been broken or malfunctioning
To understand the scale, I'd be interested to know how tall y'all are. My wife is 4-10 and I'm 6-3, so these things matter to us.
Hilarious. It's like all she had in the kitchen was a pairing knife, so you guys upgraded her to a *_claymore_* 🤣
Is it just me or is her math no mathing? 413 miles before starting and driving 111 miles, it should be at 302 miles of range left not 312. She said that twice throughout the video. So the estimated range is closer than they stated.
They were more worried about Carplay and whether of not the center console clicks when closed, apparently.
Jen getting the math wrong twice is hilarious. 413 - 111 is not 312. 😅 I'm laughing with you, really I am.
I guess demand charges are driving the prices at these stations
I remember when this channel was Hemis and roaring exhausts. Now it's EVs and women giggling. Kill me.
3:48 302 miles 413-111=302. Not the 311 you are telling us
I don't care what anyone says, That is not a Silverado, that is an Avalanche.
Difference is you can make your own electricity
@@mcsike7264 Nope. You can also make your own gas. 😂
@@TheBoxster1998 lmao which is easier and how many ppl know how to do that also if you can make your own gas gas stations would be out of business😂
In my area 34 to 52 cents per kilowatt. For those that can’t charge in apartments or condos even houses gas cars will still be cheaper
Is Mary the resident Guinea pig? …here, let’s see what happens when and see what happens!
TFL expanding from more than reviews to practical use 🤙🏼😂
Oh yeah, bots suck, TFL doesn’t
This is the problem with America, people think we need bigger, heavier, less efficient tanks! Shame on you TFLEV for giving her that monstrosity, she could have been just fine in a Model Y or KIA EV6.
$53 for 40% charge, 200 miles range? Is that normal?
I didn't realized GM had abandoned apple carplay and android auto.
On electric vehicle went with Google platform
Android Automotive let's you download apps directly to the vehicle, no phone mirroring necessary.
$100 for a charge in this, where are the savings? Would also like to hear what GM has lined up for your scheduled maintenance.
$100? Where did you get that amount from?
Easy, don't public charge. Public charging rates are almost 5x what it costs to charge at home.
That's only if you charge from basically 0 to full on a fast charger, which you should hardly need to do. Charging from home is much cheaper.
$53 to get add only 204 miles of range? At that point, a conventional ICE Sierra 1500 is better for the money
All I want is an EV as cheap as the Nissan Leaf with the range of the Silverado EV . (GM should have brought back the Avalanche name for this vehicle) I'm not asking for much. 🤣
The two of you are hilariously cute 😂
Mary, they should get you an EV Blazer or something in a mid-sized SUV . . . well, maybe not the Blazer; Chevy, no Apple Car Play.
I prefer these ladies over those other fools.
They're not great at math...they 413 minus 111 is 302....so it was off by 11 miles. For an EV that's not terrible. My tesla was bad at predicting range...
No apple play is deal breaker for me. GM trying to force me pay for there data plan.
17:09 That's what she said....
$56 bucks?? Whoa!
So $53 bucks to maybe get the equivalent of a quarter of a tank or less in !!!! And they say Evs are cheaper than gas cars to fill up…..
I pay 16 cents a kWh. Soon that will be zero when I get my solar panels and switch to free nights.
hate when people compare the price of charging at home to the price of using a public charger. 99% of us rarely use a public charger.
I like Maria, very funny and well nice looking, also makes me laugh.
you can buy used for half the new price if you smart
It’s the new Avalanche! It’s stupid to call it a Silverado EV. Not even practical and way too expensive!
Hopefully, some lower trim levels will show up on dealer lots soon with the bed to cab pass through.
it still looks like an avalanche
Not practical??? It’s a full size truck. Very practical, it’s even got that bed extension into the cab idk what you’re talking about
I agree on the expensive part and disagree on the practical part.
Nonsense practical yes it is and yes expensive as well
