  • The Cult - Tribute to Edie
    by alcoolpuro
The Edie in the song is Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol's actresses.
According to a 1989 interview with vocalist/lyricist Ian Astbury:
"Edie was inspired when I was in New York City when we were recording the Electric album. I have several friends there involved in the fashion industry. I became extremely interested in the Velvet Underground and the Warhol period.

sorry to break it to you, but have you seen another "The Cult" since the 80's? That's the chance that you have of another Edie coming up, none. Real artists are long gone, now you have auto tune artists and that's it, with the occasional exception to the rule, and even those don't match the feeling that people used to show in their art

Very well done, mate.... For a person like me who holds Edie in the same regard other Americans hold Marilyn, and as a fan of the Cult since the days of Southern Death Cult, it would have been very easy to do this wrong and benevolently tacky/disrespectful.... But you really couldn't have captured the spirit of Edie or the song any better.... Thanks for doing this! You sir get an A+.......

love this song so much!!! The Cult are amazing. On a side note to anyone out there that likes this song you really have to read the book about her, my god she had a fucked up life so you so amazing and such a fucked up life. Her family was insane. In High school i think i read it like 4 times. Dont watch the film about her thoe its all bs read the book thats the real story.

      absolutely true.
quite the family; as I recall her siblings didn't fare well at all..
I saw her with warhol once; it was just strange. Velvet Underground hadn't yet
come out, but he was unmistakable and so was she. I happened to be in a bar area of a (no longer open) art museum and she and warhol came in, sat at the bar. what a presence she had! she was breathtaking and thin, but (at the time)
she didn't seem unhealthy. probably high though. (the dr feelgood days.)

My neighborhood is full of pretty faces. She was far more than that. Warhol only gravitated to the most interesting, unique and beautiful people, and she certainly wouldn't have ever put a foot in the factory had she only been a pretty face.... There was a certain genuine glow or radiance about her that I've never seen in a woman on screen since. Oh, and Femme Fatale is actually sang by (and about) Nico. Dylan wrote a few (Like a Rolling Stone, Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat and Just Like a Woman)

One of the three children she told the world she lost, she placed for adoption, it was Morrison's only daughter, he was so upset he didn't want children after that, also the only one who knew about his daughter was Ray. Post Edie did that to protect her from Post's family. She was 6 months old when she was adopted, You couldnt tell she was pregnant due to her serious anorexia born Sept 19, 1966,, ( Half-brother Jim's son Sept 2 he's 4 years younger) she was born, she was just found, DNA 99.8. because it was his dying wish o find her. This Nov her one-half brother found her, she didn't leave his side, died in Jan in her arms, another is alive. Her aunt who's she's named after is an artist, extremly famous, as well modeled with Post Edie Sedgwick, confirmed it was true. She's on FB just put the two last names together you'll find her. She's amazing.

Yeah, a debutante from old money. Hooked up with Warhol and the factory. Why Billy Duffy wrote this tune is still a question to me. Duffy, fronm Manchester, England was a power chord king .with the Cult. About the only ballad type song they ever recorded. Your rite -the book is a good read, She did OD in the end.

....but all the smart boys saw in Edie what the rest of the world saw in Marilyn. :-) I never fully understood the allure of Marilyn Monroe, but she obviously struck a chord with one or two people. Edie couldn't have been Edie had it not been for all the horrible stuff (both brothers suicides, father sexually abusing her), and quite frankly the drugs. Maybe it was the way her eyes still shined through all that muck. Maybe misery just loves company. But Edie had CLASS. Real class. In spades.

Yes...I do look like her..and other peoples opinions yes...I didnt even know who she was when I was younger and someone said that to me, around the same time the movie "Singles" came out and they mentioned her in that movie (also Kyra-her cousin was in that movie) But dont get me wrong-im not as pretty, she had a more petite face whereas mine is more oval, she had a smaller nose but there is def a resemblance....it's very flattering, she was a doll...

  • @ckotcher1
    @ckotcher1 12 лет назад

Im sorry, I loooove this song.....I really do...the more i hear it the better It gets. And Ive always liked edie....I even look like her...BUT!!! Get ready to hate me---this is at least the 3rd song (Femme Fatale, Dylan's song @ her, and this one) about a woman who by all accounts threw her life away on drugs over and over until she died...and im sorry, she did nothing for anyone but herself, she even admitted she was selfish, and had NO discernable talent. Just a pretty face....sorry

I like your idea. The film should be made. When i saw "The Cult" (2006)ian Asbury quipped that maybe the makers of the film "Factory Girls" should have considered using their tune. Think he was right. The book is well done on her-read it.

.....and then you turn around in a video about Kurt, and take the position that Courtney was to blame for this and that - doing everything you can to deflect from the truth that HE TO chose to pick up a needle and eventually a shotgun.... It seems that you have two very different opinions for two very similar circumstances. I thought they were both great. But both beautifully damaged people.
