  • Hello there! Welcome to Tending to Home, I'm Trisha. :)
Today we are talking about one of my favorite plants...Lavender. I grow loads of Lavender here on my little homestead. Drying Lavender couldn't be any easier, simply cut in the morning after the dew has dried. Bundle into small groups and hang upside down to dry....and you're ready to go!
    Instructions are below...but first.....
Here are some great sources for finding dried Lavender online (if you don't already grow your own) and the tools/supplies you'll need to create the items we worked on today:
    Dried Organic Lavender Buds: www.amazon.com/Organic-Lavend...
    Garden Clippers: www.amazon.com/ARS-HP-VS8Z-Si...
    Organic Lavender Essential Oil: www.amazon.com/Aura-Cacia-Org...
    Epsom Salts: www.amazon.com/Sky-Organics-M...
    Mesh Bath Salt Bags: www.amazon.com/WenTao-10x15cm...
Organic Melt and Pour Goat's Milk Soap: www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/...
    Silicone Soap Mold: www.amazon.com/TDHDIKE-Silico...
    Whole Organic Flax Seeds: www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organ...
    Hemp String: www.amazon.com/KINGLAKE-Natur...
Bath Salts Recipe: Add 1 cup Epsom salts and 1/2 cup lavender buds to a glass or stainless steel bowl. Then in a separate glass dish combine 20-25 drops of organic lavender essential oil and 1 T. olive oil or grapeseed oil. Add oil mixture to salt/lavender & mix well. Add to small lidded jars and for a layered look, equally layer in 1 cup sea salt & 1 cup Himalayan pink salt. Replace lid and store in a cool dark space. Pour into a mesh bag before use and add to a hot bath. Soak for at least 20 minutes to get the benefit of the salts. Enjoy!
Soap Recipe: Use one block of Organic Goat's Milk melt and pour soap (link above). Melt in the microwave, little by little... in a glass container, stirring every so often with a stainless steel spoon. Once melted fully, add a sprinkle of lavender buds, one T. of honey. Add one tsp, to one T. of Lavender essential oil (depending on how much scent you prefer). Stir and pour into your mold (link above). Add a sprinkle of organic oats and lavender on top for exfoliation bar. Let fully cool for a few hours or more. Remove from mold and let stand for 24 hours before using. Store in an airtight container. Should make about 4-6 bars depending on the mold size. Enjoy!
Eye Pillow Instructions: Cut one piece of scrap cotton fabric to size...5" by 18". Place right sides together and sew around 3 sides with a 1/4" seam allowance. Turn pillow right side out and fill half-way with dried lavender. Add whole flax seeds until pillow is 3/4 of the way full (pillow should be part empty to fit to the contours of your eyes and bridge of your nose). Turn unfinished edges inwards and sew pillow shut. Toss pillow around to mix lavender and flax seeds. Enjoy!

Great ideas. I have a good tip. I have made a curtain for the window in my front door. Then I sewed a small pocket in it filled it with dry lavender so every time I get visitors before I open the door I squeeze the pocket that releases all the beautiful lavender fragrance. Then my visitors say that my cottage smells beautiful. It works every time💜💜💜

I like to infuse the less than perfect buds in white vinegar for a few weeks. I strain it well and use it in a spray bottle to clean surfaces. Not clothes though because it has a little color to it. I use it clean the tub, sink, none porous surfaces. Not marble

@@Camibug Thanks a lot, East Texas is kinda chilly, we just had 2 snowy times, the first time happened just only in the Eastern area, the second one is a whole state, East Texas is usually hot amid the summer, but not too hot like several big cities to the South ( Houston, Austin,...), i saw they sold a whole kit of Lavender in Lowe's center garden in here, so i still wonder would i successfully grow them here.
