    Your videos brighten my days. "It's all bullshit, this, isn't it?!" I came to this kind of realization when my husband faced a big job loss in 2012. I decided we weren't going to let money, things, and the rest of the bs define us and ruin our days. When we were younger we'd say "One of these days we can..." I tell my husband now... THESE are "one of these days". We have to live now and not chase stuff. Now we'd rather be barefoot in our garden than about anywhere else. We have a small above ground swimming pool and our family was relaxing in and around it a while back. I noted that, although it's not a beach vacation or an Olympic swimming pool...it's the same sun and the water is just as wet. It's all about perspective. I'm grateful to God for every day and every blessing.
    May you be blessed!

    I live in my own world which is stress free. Sold TV years ago, stopped listening to the radio, never buy papers or magazines. Spend my spare time out with the dog, gardening and being in the house being creative. To be honest can't bother being around too many people anymore.
    My theory is if I can't see something with my own eyes or hear it with my own ears, I question if it's actually real or just an illusion?

    I find it's amazing how much brighter and better the world seems after just a day or two away from social media and news...
    When you're exposed to that much negativity and information all the time, it blinds you to all the beauty and good there is in the world.
    When you quite literally forget all about major news stories after just a day or two away from it, that's when you realise how much energy and time you devote to thinking and worrying about things that have no actual relevance to your life whatsoever.

    To me, there are levels of a simple life. I'm a healthy single 71 year old man. I live alone and take care of myself. I enjoy bike riding both mountain bike and my road bike. They are my hobby as is maintaining them. I still want to purchase new components to try and now I'm beginning to enter bike touring and bike backpacking. To do that, I need to acquire certain bits. I'm not wealthy at all so 'm careful to purchase less expensive components and have patience: I can't buy everything I want all at once. This is my version of a simple life but mine still needs to buy things on Amazon and other places in order to enjoy my version of simple. Later, when I'm more feeble, this version of simple will end and I'll need to simplify even more.

    One of two way to deal with technology. You use it or it uses you. I love tech for many reasons however being raised before most of it makes it easy to set it aside. I would be sad if it went away but I would handle it better than a lot of people. As for ads I just automatically ignore them. If they hadn't overloaded us with them, I might have watched them but it's too late now.

    • @primalengland
      @primalengland  2 месяца назад

      I, too, rely on tech. Being a child of the 50s, I never saw a computer until I bought my children one. Having said that, I’m very tech savvy and have a home studio that uses loopers and midi equipment. All that is then processed on audio software, as is my RUclips channel.
      I do think that I can step away, though, and if I lost it all I wouldn’t be existentially affected. I’d just open a bottle of wine and carry on.

    • @thissideupthatsidedown

    ‘It’s all bullshit this, init?!’ I’m 50 this year, and have been thinking this for the last decade or so too! I think some healthy cynicism definitely does come with age. One of my favourite quotes from a book called ‘Tuesdays With Morrie’, is ‘if you don’t like the culture you live in, create your own culture’. I think this is what you’ve done by choosing not to engage with a lot of the nonsense that’s unwittingly foisted on us in this society. Your suggestion to just let your ‘mind walk past it all’ is fantastic, when you do this often enough, you just start to stop noticing it so much, it’s a sort of psychological freedom, the realisation that we don’t have to engage with a lot of what we’ve been told is important through the media and advertising, when you take a step back, you realise it’s all just a big lie!

    • @primalengland
      @primalengland  2 месяца назад +3

      So true. Life is like an Orwellian novel, but if you don’t want to be adversely affected by said novel…. Then don’t read it. I like the quote about creating your own culture. We all have it in us to do that, and it shouldn’t be difficult.

      I’ve been toying with that. It can make the video almost unwatchable. I never do. I just leave it at the default. Even when you have premium, a percentage of that goes to the creator of the video. So it’s a win win.
