Hi! I’m Nigel and I’m retired and live in Lancashire in the UK. I spend my time wandering the countryside with my beautiful dog ‘Molly. We just chat about whatever is topical, or whatever enters our collective minds.

This was a bit of a difficult decision. Should I upload or not? The original footage was over twice as long, and I managed to edit it down, but still kept it making some sense. I wanted to upload something, because the message was one I felt needed voicing.

You can't beat watching a river ❤❤❤
Have you ever noticed the people who ask the most from you or keep borrowing things from you, are the people that will give you nothing.
Your new job in retirement should be improving your physical and mental state
My mental state has always been pretty good. I now just have more time to be mental. 😊
If getting rid of material things you dont need, cutting down size of garden or amount of grass to cut, or friends that just use you, makes you feel liberated, then you made a good move.
True words. ☝️
So true, 100%
Less is bless
Nigel i too am a worrier. Found that your thoughts determine everything. If negative thoughts are spiralling out of control, next thing you know you are feeling very poorly physically and mentally. Get into a rabbit hole. Have to catch these thoughts when they start and change to a positive one. Very good thing to do but very hard.
Very true. Catch the negativity early.
Wonderful to hear someone with very similar thoughts and lifesyle as me. Hwyl, Taffy Nige, South Wales x
Enjoy life now because down the road things may not be the same
A friend told me a great saying the other day. When the door opens up dont let the old man in. Sometimes easier said than done though when joints are sore. Lol. As time goes on, the more i deal with people and society, the more i love my dog. Having morning coffee here looking over the forest. Thankful every day i live in the wilderness. Have a great day from northern ontario.
I've just watched the video about your dad becoming a head teacher and hating it. I've just given up 8k a year as a school leader to go back to being 'just a teacher'. I've got the love of being an educator back, not to mention basically zero stress.
Well done. I believe stress does kill, but most people accept it just so as not to be a nuisance or upset plans, when they know it’s harming them. Seems it’s easier to just accept the stress than refuse to join the game. I’m sure you’ve made the right decision.
"Irresponsible brain owners" perfectly put. 😅
Yes man good message. My response has been to make things from wood. Sticks and bows mostly
I think it was Picasso who said he liked being rich, because he could live like a poor man.
I love good books and i have a few on Silence and solitude...even reading them for a few minutes i almost feel a cloistered monastic environment surrounds me😊 trouble is i feel i dont want to go into the world again when that happens but its balance in all things! I love all the comments 😊
Books are very powerful. They can change your mood, influence your actions, dictate your ideology and political preference. I have just bought a book recommended by one of my subscribers. She watched my videos, assessed my literary choices….. and got it spot on. ‘The Poet of Tolstoy Park . Sonny Brewer’
'Take me way way back on Hyndford Street where you could feel the silence at half past eleven on long summer nights'.....Van Morrison 😊
Van the Man. Wise words. 😊
I like being outdoors during the day ,so the several different jobs have been outdoors this has been a work plan and tick an important box for me over the years
A very good story but I can't help but notice all your new clobber including some very nice specs. This just screams to me - Pot kettle black.
I never said you have to live in penury. Yes, I’ve got decent specs. They are varifocals because I’ve got crap eyesight. I never say you shouldn’t spend. I always say you may try spending less on things you may not necessarily need. I own nothing, and I’m happy. I rent a little terraced house, because, you know….. life. I own some nice musical instruments because that is my passion and helps keep me sane. I live on a state pension and have zero debt, even though 75% of my income goes on rent. I’m 70, have chronic heart failure and am very restricted because of cancer. I’m looking to move on. I’m looking for a remote cottage, house, mobile home to rent for the rest of my time. I’d like to get somewhere soon so that Molly can experience it. She’s 14 and full of arthritis. I like the countryside and want to live out in it for a while. I just get off my arse and do things. Very rare nowadays.
I can't stand noise/tv/radio, artificial lighting, traffic ... We aren't designed for that. Many have never lived where there's silence. I have. Silence has it's own sound.
I was out on the fells with a friend yesterday, and she asked had I ever witnessed true silence. She lived in remote Canada for years. I said that once I was fell walking in the Lake District up Dove Crag. (I did a video about it on my channel) I was miles from anywhere, but just make out a road in the distance. If I strained my ears I could just about detect sound in that direction. I then walked around a track and the road was hidden. Although I could just about detect sound, as I move around the fellside that sound disappeared. The difference was profound. The difference between a tiny little sound and true silence was massive.
Molly is adorable as usual.
I have to agree.
Seeking silence is, to me, going back to the resonance of the Earth/Gaia to reset the tumultuousness of ones life. There is a natural frequency called Schumanns Resonance of the magnetism of earth. I feel without distraction, you can most certainly sense it out in nature. Seasonally, the birds migrate and you can sense it in their songs. I feel humanity needs to 'sing' to each other so we can get back to a primal baseline that would both help our heart and health. We realise too late as we get older that removing the distraction and busyness sees our ultimate true selves realised.
People are bombarded with adverts,,buy buy buy..keeping up with the Jones's!!! In the 60 s, 70,s even eighties we lived a lot simpler and were appreciative of what we had,,everything was easier then,,,ide rather be where this guy is walking with flask of coffee and sandwiches than going round shops.
I agree money can become less important and there is a difference between western style being poor and 3rd world poverty. On a trip through Cambodia I stayed at a backpackers the worker were paid $50.oo us a month. Now there working day wasn't 8 or 9 hours of solid work like me, more like abit of sweeping, rest, wash some plates, rest , alot of brakes but time wise 8 in the morning to 8 at night, not hard work but long hours, but skill $1.30 ish a day. Poverty
Can’t thank you enough!
No need. I’m just an old guy rambling about what he finds important. 😊
İ stomble in your chanel and i resonate so much vvith your mesage ❤thank you ...slovv living peacefull living
Thank you. Be happy. 😊
Silence is,truly, golden and blessed are those who find it🙂 I once heard "Multi-tasking, is defined, as being able to do several things poorly".
😂😂 In that case, I’m an excellent multi-tasker.

Well done, Julie. I hope you have a long, happy, peaceful retirement. ❤️
Thank you for posting these lovely walking videos - my shoulders drop and my breathing slows down when I watch them. Keep it going!
Thank you so much, Hazel. ❤️
This past summer I found to be - well, as humid and oppressive as ever they are in our area, and they tend to make me feel a bit claustrophobic at times. My strategy has always been to distract myself as best I can, watch some youtube, read an engrossing book or something - but nothing really helped much this year, so a few times I decided to just brave it and just sat there observing my breathing and at least not resisting a present moment that, admittedly, was not what I would prefer. And somehow very strangely, I found great strength in the doing of that. Though I am still glad when my silences involve contemplating golden leaves and listening to the insects hum and the breezes blow, still much more agreeable haha.
I've recently gone on long term sick leave due to health problems. I'm now wondering how the heck I worked 12hr night shifts full time. Life has slowed down a lot and it's what I've needed.
Let’s hope it helps, Lisa. ❤️
I like walking round our local cemetery which is huge and beautifully landscaped with woodland areas. It's my place to escape not only the external noise but the internal stuff as well.
I find lots of peace walking through our local cemetery. Something beautiful about them. ❤️
Each age brings along a generation who seek individuality and uniqueness ,and all end up looking the same ,same dress same hairdo same thoughts same tattoos ,all their individuality sacrificed on the alter of of consumerism ,manipulated by billion dollar companys to sell their mass produced goods ,their mind bending tricks to make you go this way, think this way vote this way ,WAKE UP ,STOP BEING MANIPULATED ,CONVENTIONAL GOVERNMENTS ARE CORRUPT ,,NEVER VOTE FOR MAJOR ESTABLISHED POLITICAL PARTYS WHO FAIL YOU OVER AND OVER ,SEEK FREE THINKING INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NOT TIEDTO PARTY DOGMA ,BUT CAN REACT FREELY AND SWIFTLY TO CIR UMSTANCE IF WE KEEP GOING DOWNTHE SAME CUL DE SAC ,WE REACH THE SAME DEAD ENDS!!
Wise words, every one, David. 👍
Lee marvin that great american actor said ,"Never buy anything that eats " .seems like you v,e broke the first marvin rule ,
Ha! I hope I haven’t offended the late, very great Lee. 😁
There's a quote from some literature...(people can't agree where it came from).. "Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits." When you get rid of all the external noise, maybe in nature, you still have to deal with the internal (infernal?)dialogue. Now that's quite a challenge! 😁
Agreed sir 🙏
As I’ve got older I can’t tolerate a lot of noise , I like peace and a silent house in the morning. When reluctantly shopping the music “ in shops really irritates me , especially at Christmas. How the poor staff cope I do not know . I think I’m a bit oversensitive to noise , it overwhelms me .
Apparently it makes us spend more. Just makes me want to leave and go somewhere quiet. 😊
The more simple we live, the more real we are, but its difficult in this era, surrounded by unreal social media and other virtual things.
That’s true. I think it’s all a compromise. Just do your best. The machine is bigger than we are.
What kind of shrooms are there growing on your nose sir?
Discoid Lupus from working in the sun all my life. It’s on my cheek, too. Itches like f**k.
Live in a log cabin in the woods with my dog. I have been retired for 12 years from my stressful career as a corrections officer. Live simply and quietly now surrounded by nature. Gave away all my excess tools, books and stuff i dont need, cut ties with people i really dont like, and downsized my garden, and grass around house to cut to less than half. Threw out clothes i havent worn in years and focus on my physical and mental health now. In retirement that must be your new job. Happy and content in this slow life. Enjoy your videos. Thankyou from the wilderness country of northern ontario.
I’m envious of your life. Live it as long as you possibly can. 😊

Brilliant realistic and all true. Thankyou. Very refreshing.
Thank you, Andy. 👍

Good for you! :)
Thank you. 😊
We went for a lovely walk at dusk and it was so quiet, watched the sun going down, enjoyed seeing the silhouettes of the trees, the darkness just bringing a calmness upon us. Loved listening to you and seeing wee Molly 🌳
Thank you, Tanya. I love walking in the evening, and all the special smells are out for Molly. 😊🐶
I love this guy! Peace and love!
Thank you, Kathy. ❤️
I agree totally Nigel. When my husband is away I never have TV on and it's so relaxing. When we used to visit family the TV was always on in the background 😟
Hubby needs to go away more ofton 😂😂😂. I think it's rude, people leaving telly on when you visit.
@@DottyDolly-39 agreed on both counts 😉
The silence when you turn the television off is delicious, Kath. ❤️
Less is more...is my mantra 😊
Sums it up perfectly, Roger.
@@primalengland horses for course's...but it works for me...cheers
I just see someone say your name, Nigel. So, Nigel, there are not many quiet places now. As a south east Southerner, I think of Boxhill, but there is no peace there, as major roads go past it, and you get motor bikes zooming around. Most of the coast down here is built up, too!😢 The Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven, and probably the Romney Marsh, Dungeness areas are relatively peaceful. Even inland again, there are always aircraft going over head!😢 I'm having a bit of a downer as usual.😅😂😊
I agree, Albert. There are few truly quiet places left. Even on our walks we are avoiding constant crowds and the noise from traffic. There are still a couple of places we can go round here that perfect peaceful. I keep them to myself.
@primalengland Very sensible! Once you tell anybody, or the press get hold of any news, it's swamped with people.
I think really that the natural sounds are music, real music. While a lot of,' Music', is noise.😊
Perfectly put, Albert. 👍
