Thank you for sharing my story and home. Just to answer a few questions on posts below as a few are making judgments about me. I've retired, but I care for an elderly family member who has dementia. I do not claim or get any government benefits. I like to find my own way in life, stand on my own two feet. I've paid back my family member the money he gave me to buy my floating home. I am not rich or have a rich family. Living on a Narrowboat on the canal doesn't mean your wealthy! Infact a lot of boat dwellers have very little. The richness is in my heart. Hope that clears up a few questions in other posts. As I say this alternative lifestyle has changed my life. Its given me the chance to move on from the loss of my wife and to find myself a better way to live life. 🙏 Dave
Thank you for all your lovely comments. I'm sorry if I dont reply to all, just so many! Feeling very grateful to you all for tuning into exploring alternatives and watching. Have a beautiful day! Dave 🙏
Just about to enjoy/endure my first winter on a boat. Moved on in April for same health reason's. Though I have a CRT permanent mooring but my job gives me the same freedom you enjoy when I want it.
@@ianstuart5660I wonder if that is part of the allure of driving truck over the road in the United States? I don't have much control over where I end up on a day to day calendar, but if I didn't have a home with a wife and kid that want to see me, I could choose to take my off time in any part of the country I am driving to. Definitely minimalist in the items I have on board, the newer trucks did away with storage for pretty's sake. I prefer storage😂. With onboard electric inverter I can run my 3 quart instant pot, an electric skillet a little rice steamer. I have a TV with DVD player if I need entertainment, usually my cellphone has all the entertainment I need. I just need to get more active. So many beautiful places to walk, and beautiful people to talk to.
Congratulations- a lovely and inspiring story. I had a colegue in the police force with a similiar story. He lost his wife six months before he had to retire and was totaly lost. his adult children booked him a two week holiday on the canals and he was saved!. He came home, sold his house and bought a barge and devoted his life to rerstoring it and that restored him! twenty years later he is still living aboard and cruising. I am 84 and I truly envy him his courage and freedom.

Well the person who bought himself a boat helped a bit.. Its not like he pulled himself up by the bootstraps, got a job, saved up for 20 years at a shitty job, paid rent...etc
As someone who can totally relate to loss and starting over, this has been my favourite story so far on this channel. Living on a boat was the best years of my life. I hope to do it again one day. For those struggling, there is hope. Blessings to all. 🙏💚

What a charming man. So sorry for the loss of his wife. And how fortunate was he to have a family member that was able to help him with the purchase of the boat. That even though he does love the lifestyle it doesn't come without its challenges. So many RUclipsrs often will glamorize whatever lifestyle it is they're trying to sell you. As a continual cruiser for many years I totally appreciate your lifestyle Dave. So many wonderful people and nature we enjoyed. Beautiful video, I'm 60 and have very little possessions (used to have a ton many years ago!, now I don't own my own home, I live in a shared house etc, never been happier) it is sooooooo liberating, and I don't miss those things, nor the headache and responsibility/upkeep. I actually think that for some of us, having a lot of 'stuff' can clutter our lives (and minds) in so many ways. Very happy for Dave. One of the best comments I ever read was in a book (it's called the Multi-Hyphen Method) and in it the author said something like "designing a life that works for you" - I love that sentence so much. We're brainwashed in society to have a house, a car, a job, kids, stuff, go on holidays yada yada yada, yet for many, that isn't what life is all about and isn't 'enough'. Dave is the epitome of that phrase I mention - he has designed a live that works for him. It's not for everybody, but it's perfect for him and I'm sure many envy him for that freedom. I love your channel. I am a great fan of people who like to spend their old age disgracefully. Old people are written off, treated quite badly by society and the powers that be. We are no different from when we were in our prime given half the chance. We are paving the way for a longer adult life and I guess we are entitled having worked to help benefit the younger ones. Big congratulations from here.
Dave has done very well , I am have sympathy for him as i was in a similar situation when a parent died and i was then totally on my own and lost the home i had so took me like 12 years to get back on my feet , Dave is proof that you can get back to life if you have the will to live.
Thanks for sharing your experiences & lifestyle. Condolences in the loss of your wife, having lost my son I can empathize with your grief. Stay strong mate.
A truly wonderful uplifting tale, forged from the sorrow this life can bring. I work in mental health and can testify that so many of our psychological maladies can be reduced by simplifying our lives. It doesn't have to be on a narrow boat (however lovely!!) it can be right where we are now. All it's needed is to do as Dave does, live in the now and don't measure your self worth in possessions, the madness of constant attainment. When Thoreau commented on how most of us "live a life of quiet desperation" over 170 years ago, he didn't leave it at that. Possibly his greatest advice followed on how to live well. "Our lives are frittered away by detail; simplify, simplify, simplify" Wonderful video, certainly helped this writer.
Thankyou Dave for sharing your story. Living a more simplistic life is good for the soul. In a world of consumerism and dictatorship its good to know that some people can break free and live a more conscious life. So glad you found that freedom. 💚
Such a wonderful "GIFT" from your relative who knew it would help you in your journey towards your healing. No strings attached. Just wanted you to enjoy a peaceful life. Looks like such a calm peaceful place. God's Blessings!
It's a nice way to do it. If the entire earth gets innovative, things can happen. We need to end the current way of doing things. Nice content Exploring Alternatives!
Thank you Dave for your transparency with regards to suddenly been confronted with reality of a situation … your gentleness and gratitude is your greatest strength …. Being so very grateful for this second chance in life and understanding how to live day by day … appreciating the small things as well as the amazing nature that surrounds you is surely food for your soul. You are an inspiration to the many that have mental health issues…. you’ve shown your recovery begins with the steps you take. Durban SA 🇿🇦
I love that you’re bringing mental health awareness on this channel! I’ve definitely struggled with it my whole life. It’s not talked about enough in the us, I don’t know about Canada. Thank you for bringing it up! And Dave: thank you for sharing your story ❤
Here in Canada a lot of work is being done to make mental health an acceptable topic for discussion by all & to try to get rid of the negative connotations & stereotypes. However, we don’t have anywhere near enough therapists & other professionals to help all of those who need help.
What a story ! Dave is a true survivor , what he's been through and the humbleness he portrays is refreshing..the gift of the generous/caring family member says tons about them as well. I like his demeanor and steadfast approach to his new life and wish him the best. Ill be glad to subscribe to his channel also, thx for letting us into your life and to EA for filming your story!
I spent much of my life living on very small boats often just anchored off shore. Not only to save a great deal of money but having the freedom to move. Your boat is a mansion compared to anything I ever had. You are very blessed to be able to do this.
What you have created for your life is just wonderful. I admire what you've done and gained such a positive attitude. I am watching you from North Carolina, US. Keep up the great life!
Lovely positive story, wonderful that you came back from that hospital experience to contentment. Your relative may have saved your life through his generosity.
Beautiful story Dave. You found your place in life. To hear your gratitude is touching. May everyone suffering a difficult journey in life find their place with nature and peace. It doesn’t require money or fame. It’s in a simple gift right around us. When you find it…..you’ll be so grateful. God bless.
Dave, you are living one of my dreams, even though I am far away in South Africa, where we have no canals. I am inspired when I watch how you rebuilt your life. I have also re-invented my life in the 30 years I have been living alone. I will look up your vlog as I am planning on starting a RUclips channel . I have positive and adventurous things to share. Keep well and keep enjoying your special life Regards Denise

Dave has done very well , I am have sympathy for him as i was in a similar situation when a parent died and i was then totally on my own and lost the home i had so took me like 12 years to get back on my feet , Dave is proof that you can get back to life if you have the will to live.
Dave, thank you for sharing your boat and your life with us. I am happy you have found some peace. I am sorry about the loss of your wife. God Bless.
Thank you 🙏
God bless ya Dave! Great guitar playing, and beautiful plants. I hope you enjoy such a serene life.
Thank you 🙏 Dave
Thanks for sharing your experiences & lifestyle. Condolences in the loss of your wife, having lost my son I can empathize with your grief. Stay strong mate.
Aww Bless 🫂 🙏 Dave
So glad you didnt end your life , im very happy you have somehow turned your life around, im not sure i could cope with that loss
Thankyou Dave for sharing your story. Living a more simplistic life is good for the soul.
In a world of
consumerism and dictatorship its good to know that some people can break free and live a more conscious life. So glad you found that freedom. 💚
Thank you Sheila
Such a wonderful "GIFT" from your relative who knew it
would help you in your journey towards your healing.
No strings attached. Just wanted you to enjoy a peaceful
life.

Thank you for sharing your simple life.
Beautiful, simply beautiful …
What a lovely home you have created here. Stay safe and be blessed kind sir.
Dave , you are a lucky Man. I would love to live this life. Thanks for the video.
This is exactly what I need .
Thanks for the inspiration!
I spent much of my life living on very small boats often just anchored off shore. Not only to save a great deal of money but having the freedom to move. Your boat is a mansion compared to anything I ever had. You are very blessed to be able to do this.
🙏
I like your lifestyle sir, you are indeed a peaceful man.
U have me support, Dave, all the way from Canada.
What you have created for your life is just wonderful. I admire what you've done and gained such a positive attitude. I am watching you from North Carolina, US. Keep up the great life!
So glad you found a new way of living Dave. Thank you for sharing ❤
It was so wonderful to see how you live. Sounds like a sweet life. Happy for you.
Lovely positive story, wonderful that you came back from that hospital experience to contentment. Your relative may have saved your life through his generosity.
🙏 Dave
Great account of narrowboat living. The boat is gorgeous. Your decorating skills are a great part of that. Well done, love it!
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful story Dave. You found your place in life. To hear your gratitude is touching. May everyone suffering a difficult journey in life find their place with nature and peace. It doesn’t require money or fame. It’s in a simple gift right around us. When you find it…..you’ll be so grateful. God bless.
😊 🙏
Dave, you are living one of my dreams, even though I am far away in South Africa, where we have no canals. I am inspired when I watch how you rebuilt your life. I have also re-invented my life in the 30 years I have been living alone. I will look up your vlog as I am planning on starting a RUclips channel . I have positive and adventurous things to share. Keep well and keep enjoying your special life Regards Denise
🙏 Go with the flow!
