"It’s said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. LEGO has Mega Bloks. E.T. has Mac and Me. Now Forza Horizon has The Crew Motorfest. To be fair, Motorfest is a robust racer with a confident sense of style, a quality arcade handling model, and a long list of generally well-planned events right out of the box. However, the shift to a smaller map has seen it lose a part of its old identity, boats and aircraft feel like they’ve been sidelined, and some of its event Playlists work a lot better than others. Ultimately, The Crew Motorfest is a little more Ice Ice Baby and a little less Under Pressure. It’s a catchy enough copy, but it ain’t exactly back with a brand new invention."

There are only 7players limited in openworld and most of the time they dont near you. The game added some fake NPC act like human player. like when you sitting near a event there are some NPC dive into the event object and disapper. They are ghosted anyway so it still feel empty

@@poopsauce He means that the journalist had earlier access than the players, so before release. And it's weird to complain about a lack of players because you are playing when the game isn't even out yet.
My favorite part is the cockpit view. 900 degree steering and you can put your arm out the window.

Ubisoft did a great job with the this game. Maybe it just gives me TDU vibes, but it’s actually a solid game. My only complaint is that they should have just stuck with the car racing and ditched the plane and boat stuff this time.

It would've been awesome if they had multiple Hawaiian island. The fact that they have airplanes and boats available would've work well. Miss opportunity. Maybe an DLC?
Agree multiple islands would be cool but having been to Big Island and Kuai... the driving isn't really all that hot on either.
There's little chance of that happening.

Some of the developers of this game worked on Test Drive Unlimited from 2006. Motorfest looks/sounds like Forza Horizon but it really reminds me of TDU, which was also set on Oahu Island.

Agreed! Whoever was on the dev team listened to and showcased car culture and the intro to the game spoke volumes. The only I’d change now is making the world feel slightly more alive with more players in a session or a little bit more traffic. I’ve seen mixed reactions on the “ghost” players driving all around at maximum speeds😅😂
Also the perfect corners these AI take at high speed.

The setting is amazing, great vibes, sound effects, day night cycle. One of the best real time map I've ever seen. Better then a 7
You only said the positives. You cannot rate a game high just cus you think it looks and sounds cool. There are other aspects which are mentioned in this review as well like bugs and annoying micro-transactions

To counter the fasttravel lock, drive with your car fast, switch with "2" to your airplane. Fly to the destionation in a couple seconds and switch back to your car when you're near. It will drop you down super fast due to the weight of the car and you're at your destination.
There is a demo out on all platforms. Its 5 hours long and progression carries over. Just sayin.

Tip if you're stuck waiting in PvP lobbies, go to the game settings and change your preferred region from Automatic to Europe or America where there are likely to be more players online (accounting for the time difference).

@laurenedney7 graphics wise, but it was ahead of it's time, and back when Ivory Tower (the studio who made it) wanted to make a name for themselves

It's kinda cool that the starter cars are 3 like chill vibes cruise around cars this way you can enjoy the new animations of you holding arm out the car while you chill and drive to ir next point

Having played crew 2, you don't need micro-transactions to enjoy the game You can easily grind races and unlock every classes of vehicles. The grinding part is the best thing about the crew series. IGN never complained how forza horzion 5 gave free Bugatti, lambo, wvwn before 10% completion( If you don't trust me, see your inbox in-game). Forza gives you everything at the beginning making it boring or uselsess to grind, unlike crew.
How is the grinding the best part? What about racing/handling model/track design etc? Shouldn’t that be the best part of a racing game?
Because there are tonnes of races which have different classes and types of races. And anyone who has played both the previous crew know, driving is quite average.

Sadly most revoew codes are xbox. Huge mistake on marketing department side. Also considering ps5 owners don't have a horizon. Should have sent sony codes to all major reviewers only.

There is no Horizon on PS5. The Crew 2 was dead online on PC and XBOX, but this has crossplay so it is a win for it. But if you are not burned out by FH5 play horizon.

Some say planes and boats don’t belong, but you NEED to have that stuff in Hawaii! It’s barely even a part of the game. Now the one thing I’d change is the ability to remove nitrous in singleplayer entirely. Using a wheel with 5/5 difficulty and the AI getting nitrous is challenging as hell. I’d love to remove nitrous from AI and focus on driving rather than when to use my boost
Games getting better scores than Starfield. That's why we need to drop the scoring metric. It doesn't judge games to games when player-choice and scope plays the vital role.

Great review! Graphics, driving physics, races all great. Agree that planes and boats are underdone in this game. Much preferred how The Crew 2 handled different types of races with their "disciplines" system. Grinding indeed tedious with micro transactions too prevalent. Overall though, quite a fun open world racer, 7/10 is about right.
Thanks for the review, definitely not gonna buy, it's more suitable for kids aged 09 - 14 at max.

@@PlanetThrill ill explain. Coming from forza horizon 5 where there is an insanely boring flat brown map, the map here is an upgrade. Although there are less cars overall, every single car will have more customisation than forza, and theres still loads of them. Cars sounds are also an improvement. Handling has significantly improved from tc2 so u can now actualy enjoy driving around. + the colours pop

Whiever review’d this really does not appreciate greatness. Personally this is one of the best multiplayer (friends wise) experience of all time imo.

Playing the trial now - solid game, frame rate, candy graphics but what bugs me a little is the input lag compared to other games… car seems to react way later to my inputs. It’s a bit annoying as it feels disconnected.
If you dive into the steering settings in the options menu, you can reduce or remove the steering dead zone. Some cars also just have severe understeer at speed. You can try messing with the car tuning to address that.
Put deadzone to zero for steering and turn off all handling assists
Deadzone like the other said helps a lot
Also turn off cockpit animation,it looks to the bends when in cockpit view and feels weird

Surprised no talk about the bikes in the game which is what sets it apart from everry other racing game. They got a decent better update on the handing and riding feel. Def not a 10/10 but a 7 seems fair.

As fun as the idea sounds like, you can be sure that any game that would do that would sure do the map but it'd be so friggin empty of content you'd feel like you're playing Euro Truck Simulator x'p.
Nothing will beat the original crew. This feels like a crew 2 dlc.

10:57 that situation only happens whenever you joined a lobby with 10 secs to go for new requirements to occur, thus leading your lobby to not have new players going in and you and other players in that lobby with the prior requirements to be stuck there unless you press leave. Keep that in mind next time 😅

So if you join the gran race 10 seconds before the new one is made, then no one will join your grand race since they put another grand race.

The Crew 1 had appalling handling, bland and bloated world in many aspects and a kind of pointless grind to its car upgrade systems. It had a few nice idea but was definitely not the best, unless you just really liked driving around the U.S. and seeing what they’d included.

Wow. There is no sense of speed whatsoever. The speedometer says 260, but it looks like the car is going 70 mph.
so basically Forza Horizon is the same every installment but they always praise it and give it a 10 but since Crew Motorfest did not bring much innovation, deserves a 7, despite everything else being great as per the reviewer. Makes sense......
EDIT: btw IGN also gave a 7 to The Crew 2 which is inferior in many aspects so that also tells a lot
because forza horizon perfected their formula, even though 5 has gotten a bit stale as time went on
the crew however was never great, so it makes sense that it gets a lower score if it doesnt improve enough

Forza horizon gets better every release. It’s untouchable as a racing game. Even recently they are releasing another update that makes the game even better in terms of track creation. Forza nails pure fun in racing games. This game looks decent but everything that it does well, forza is still taking to a better level.

Can we just stop comparing it with Forza pls? Either you do a story mode or a festival one, they are done with both in their previous installments. They are trying something new. They can't use the US map again and again. Am sure they will improve in their subsequent releases. This is not over yet.

At least The Crew is trying something new for the franchise. Forza has stagnated in innovation and each title feels like the same game with less and less personality

It does have a personality though because they're all set in different countries.

You literally get to gamble with slot machines to get the end game cars way faster. Not to mention FH5 is empty, can't even cruise for more than 20 minutes without wanting to quit and play another game.
It’s a wait for a sale. They were on the cusp of something great but the effort that could have went to doing so went instead to the monetization.
