As a prior church kid what this video has shown me is Evangelicals are moving away from the word (bible) in which they claim to follow and creating a version of it to best fits their needs. Which isn't fair to nonbelievers, people should be rightfully informed on what they're getting into so they can make a proper decision. The fact that only one person stood in Strongly Agree when asked if Christianity is the only path to Salvation is a indication of this.
absolutely. this video was infuriating. makes me so sad to see "Christians" like this. However, I think majority of them are from LA, so it makes a lot of sense.
Yes! When I saw only one person go to the strongly agree on that prompt it made my heart hurt. How a Christian cannot strongly agree to that makes me question if they truly know what the gospel is.
I'm fascinated by Alyssa. She's so calm and seems to be really understaning. I really like the way she talks too, she gets her points without being aggressive; what she says just comes out as super clear beacuse she seems to be very informed about what she's talking about and to care about what she has to say, her message.
yeah me too. like she so clearly has put deep thought into everything she believes and viewed it from a very critical lens and she expresses it in words beautifully.
as someone who used to be christian, i like people like kayli. individuals like kayli make me happy that people like her exist in the evangelical faith.
I grew up Catholic and one thing my family taught me is to never trust someone just because they can quote the bible. Even the devil can quote the bible, he knows it well because he was once an angel.
I am an atheist watching this, so take it for what it's worth. Some folks in the video wondered why LGBTQ+ people would often not feel safe in Christian spaces. But a lot of the time in the video is spent debating whether or how or why being LGBTQ+ is wrong. So, why would an LGBTQ+ person feel safe in a space where that topic is debated - is their existence wrong, or is it only that they choose to act on their existence? Put it this way: if there was a space where a LOT of time was spent debating whether Christianity is wrong, a mental defect, naive, or benign - even if they decide after all that discussion that it's benign, Christians won't likely feel comfortable in that space. Why? Because no one wants to be in spaces where their acceptance is constantly debated.
It's not LGBTQ peoples existence that's being debated. You guys exist (clearly and obviously). What's debated is whether acting upon a desire a person has that's wrong makes it a sin or simply having that wrong desire in the first place. The act of being with someone of the same sex is wrong and sinful. But so is adultry between straight people. So the debate in the latter case would be whether a person is wrong simply for having the desire to commit adultry and cheat on their spouse or whether its only wrong if they act upon that desire.
@@authorjoannawhite Well why else should something be considered wrong or "sinful"? For example, I can fully understand why adultery could be seen as wrong as it can cause demonstrable harm. Can't see how the same is true of homosexuality
@@authorjoannawhite, Even with your clarification, I can understand why LGBTQ people would not want to be in Christian spaces. Let's do the reversal I talked about in my earlier comment. You are Christian and you are thinking about whether you feel comfortable in x space. X folks are having endless debates not about whether Christians exist, but whether it is immoral or wrong for them to act on their abberant faith. Not whether believing in Christ is wrong in itself, but whether acting on that abberant belief is worthy of condemnation. But yet, they tell you "You are safe here. We love you! We really do! You can't help being that way. We just don't want you to act on who you are at your very core." That wouldn't make you eager to be in x space, would it?
I wholeheartedly concur with your viewpoint and commend Jason for his brave stance in upholding the tenets of the Holy Bible, while remaining open-minded towards the perspectives of those who may not fully comprehend its teachings. ✝️📖🙏
I’m glad he’s a pastor that speaks biblical truth. these “progressives” want to conform their beliefs in what society wants to hear. Matthew 17: 13-14 is what comes to mind watching Jason speak his faith.
I clicked on this video because I recognized Angel from a previous video years ago where he was claiming homosexuality was a sin to be essentially "prayed out". It's amusing to see him go from "I can control the gay" to 3:44 "I'm gay!". But most importantly, I'm happy for him no longer trying to suppress that side of himself
I’m so glad that a lot of Christians are deconstructing from that Western Evangelical Christianity that comes out of the South. You can have a relationship with Yeshua without that label.
No one in the Roe v Wade part has anything to say about whether it was actually the correct legal decision for the Supreme Court to be making. They made it about their personal pro-life/pro-choice stances. The Supreme Court's job is to rule based on the language of the Constitution and the precedents it sets. They are judges, not lawmakers. If you want to talk about which laws should be in effect either at a state or federal level, that's a different conversation than whether the Supreme Court is making rulings based off accurate interpretations of what the Constitution says. People are consistently confused about this and I wish the media would do more to clear it up, rather than just continue to stir the pot and profit off the resulting chaos.
Becuase the entire video is focused on the lenses of evangelicals, not lawyers. I don’t expect evangelicals to discuss what’s the meaning of “liberty” in the Constitution.
@@isaacng123456789 but the question itself had nothing to do with being evangelical. it was weird to ask. should’ve been about pro-choice/pro-life maybe but not what was asked.
And the truth is there is basis for overtuning Roe v. Wade then which is also something the media will not say. These laws need to passed through congress. I believe RGB herself eluded to this as well.
Exactly! While I am a pro-life Christian and I believe the overturning of Roe is something to be celebrated because I truly believe it was God’s hand working, the Supreme Court didn’t do this of their own religious/non religious views of abortion. They are going by what actions our constitution says to do. If they wanted to codify Roe, they had almost 50 years to do it.
@@ashleyholder2218 they most certainly did it because of their own religious views. theyre most conservative. u think thats a coincidence? most abortions are done during the first trimester. and some even earlier. and what about zygotes? are those babies or are they sex cells that have yet to be babies? is a fertilized chicken egg a chicken? especially if you can't even tell there is a zygote there?

She is. However, from most evangelicals perspective they feel an urgency to preach about sin, repentance, salvation, also. She is on the more progressive side.
John 14:6!!!! I'm supprised for the first question they were not all in strongly agree. Reguardless of what you wrestle with as a Christian or whether you you born in a place that makes it likely for you not to become a Christian, as Christians we belive that there is only ONE way and ONE truth and ONE life, nothing else can lead to salvation.
It's a more nuanced discussion than you let it out to be, as you said what about the people who have never heard of christ or lived in a culture that was so departed from that? Would they be condemned or be saved? There may be some leeway there as christianity is not the predominant religion in every country
Actually you can, there a tons of different christianity religions. Each take what parts of the bible they want to follow and which ones they don’t want. If the bible was easy to understand then there wouldn’t be this many types of christianity
I don’t think they’d consider it “loose.” They said look at it in context - consider the many different authors, translating different languages, different cultures and times, different genres. All of that matters. So when the Bible tells us something like don’t eat shrimp or wear mixed fabrics, we don’t literally do that; we try to understand the meaning that was intended.
It’s videos like these that make me very curious to see the responses of people in other regions. I’m a Christian from the south, and I know plenty of individuals who would give a different answer to a lot of these prompts from a lens of theology, life experience and academia in a very articulate way. I know that Jubilee is only based in LA, but I think the overall message of being more human would have a deeper reach of more perspectives from different parts of the country were represented.
I'm Mexican as well who's a Christian and I believe they're are more like new era type of christians that try to fit their ideas into the gospel when it's the other way around. The only one that seems to believe what the bible says and not what they think what the bible says is Jason.
It feels like these Christians are trying to sell Christianity to people or they're trying to sweet talk people into the faith. If they can't accept our beliefs as it is than let those people live their life their way and find out the truth in the end. No other spiritual practices changes their beliefs to appease the unbelievers. We shouldn't have to either.
I don’t agree at all I feel like there’s a difference between cultures when it comes to receiving Christianity. As we move forward in modern times peoples perceptions of how Christians dealt with certain things in the past are going to change and how they choose to deal with things in the present will also change. That along with how they interpret the Bible and God‘s intentions. Plenty of Religions change how they used to be especially in western areas as we become more accepting and continue to live amongst one another
I wish there was a question on mission trips! I’d be interested to hear their opinion to see if they acknowledge the negative effects it can end up having on communities. As a former evangelical I often had quarrels in the church with what I now understand it as a form of modern day colonialism. Coming in and out of childrens lives so quickly can cause abandonment issues as well as poor self-worth due to the constant comparisons and rhetoric. Not to mention misconduct that can often happen with power/age dynamics. Even the more progressive evangelicals often refuse to acknowledge the white saviorism complex that occurs in their churches.
that would've been a great topic to touch on! it sucks that the same 5-6 topics are recycled in these kinds of videos when there are so many other interesting ones that are hardly discussed.
There are real missionaries that stay and live in these communities amongst the people for years or decades but those are few are far between. Most are quick week long trips which are definitely outdated and harmful
There are certainly harmful ways to do mission trips but thats not the majority. There are a ton of ways for the local church to support missions. The first is to help train and equip the people in that country/area so that they can do their own ministry. The second is sending out long-term missionaries and planting churches. For short-term missions (which is what you primarily referred to), you partner with missionaries/organizations that are already established wherever you are going, that way you can support something thats already well established within the community. My church does all of the above, as well as every church within our network. As for it being “colonialism” I find that comment curious as its usually made by people fully support (and often partake) in modern day colonialism which is pushing Western ideas onto other cultures via the internet/media. Because of the internet we dont need to travel to countries to colonize them with our culture/ideas, and so much of the world that doesnt share western culture ideology is significantly more poor, significantly more happy and also very late to internet/media. Because of that, primarily progressives look down on these cultures because they have much more conservative lifestyle views, primarily in areas of race, gender and LGTBQ. I certainly dont agree with all of those ideas (polygamy, incest, and sleeping with minors are also cultural things Ive seem in different parts of the world), but technically if you come into their culture and tell them to do anything otherwise then your colonizing them. And if you think “but thats our moral imperative” congratulations- your a colonizer :)
@@5xmasterx548 apparently lol, impoverished communities are being helped during these mission trips but apparently people think it’s more beneficial to just call people colonizers online and do nothing in the real world
If you identify as a Christian and don’t strongly agree that Christianity is the only way to salvation, something is wrong with your interpretation of the gospel.

seeing the progress Angel has made over the few years since the first video i saw him on actually made me cry. he seems to simultaneously be more comfortable with his sexuality AND he seems to has strengthened his faith. im so happy for him

I had no idea this is the same Angel from Liberal Christians vs Conservative Christians! He seems like a whole new person and so much more free! I'm glad he could finally accept himself.
I was in the last of these two videos (Spectrum Christians) where I met Jason. I also went to college with Alyssa - we had the same major! I’m encouraged that Jubilee included more of the conversation regarding theology but disappointed that they once again centered the conversation about LGBTQ+ people instead of covering other topics that don’t get as much airtime, although this conversation seemed slightly more productive, if less direct.
Jason is clearly the only one courageous to tell the absolute truth. Idk if the others were just too scared to say how they really feel or if that’s how they really feel. If they truly felt that way there’s a problem lol
Bible: defines gender roles Bible: there is no difference in gender or class ... We're all equal "Should the Bible be interpreted literally?" Most of the group: agree Me: Confused how to interpret previous two conflicting statements.
By reading the whole chapter and seeing who the verse is spoken by, to, where, and when. The scripture taken out of Deuteronomy is specifically for Ancient Israelites before the time of Christ when they were bound under the law. The second verse is out of the New Testament after Christ has come and fulfilled that law, now breaking the grip it had and freeing the Israelites (and rest of the world) to live in freedom, by grace. Context context context.
You can be equal in gender in class and still have a different role to do. People assume that one role is better than the other and so they want the other role that was not assigned to them.
Normally I don't watch these kinds of high production, social reality show-esque videos, but the way in which this channel takes groups of people with differing opinions on controversial topics (not just in Middle Ground) and makes them debate those opinions with respect and patience is admirable.
Progressive Christianity this is an example watering down Gods word to be liked/fit in more but as Christian’s we are told to be different as this world is not our home heaven is
Why are you acting like Christianity hasn't been changed constantly since it's founding? The Bible is riddled with contradictions and provable changed texts to fit the mainstream belief at the time.
Alyssa was very well spoken and very knowledgeable. Although I didn’t agree with every point he made Jason is someone who is not ashamed of his faith. Angel has been interesting, and it seems his view on his sexuality is changing. Overall though great encouraging video. Don’t hate on Jason for saying his beliefs. That’s the point of the video
Jason seemed like the only one who actually follows the word closely. The rest were injecting their liberal views into their faith as much as they possibly could. Why be apart of a religion if you're going to make it about yourself. Coming from someone who is irreligious. Just seems like a cop-out to blatantly disregard some of the teachings.
should've asked them if they agree w the death penalty and immediately have followed it up with whether they agree on abortion... I bet their logic would evaporate into thin air
I'm tearing up, I'm so happy to see Angel in this video. Seeing him in the Liberal vs Conservative Christians video, you could tell he was so conflicted in his identity in the name of religion. It's wonderful how he realized he can still have his faith while being who he is ♡
@@jonmarkbeatty he obviously didn't give up his beliefs or he wouldn't have been in the video. Christianity is it's own culture so I'm sure that's not what he was trying to "fit in" with. It's people like you that made him ashamed to be his true self in the first place
She might be a cool person, but she is weak as a Christian. She would fit in great in many modern churches though. Church is not necessarily Christianity.

I'm sooo proud of Angel and how far he's come, you can tell how much he's thought about his beliefs and his identity regarding them. He genuinely seems a lot happier now, and the way he's so open-minded to new and reasonable information is amazing to see.
Regarding pro life or pro choice, why do Christians feel the need to impose their religion on people of other religions with different beliefs? Genuinely asking
exactly! abortion is a much more open subject in other religions like Islam, Hindusim and Judaism so the overturn of Roe v Wade violates freedom of religion.
If you genuinely believe something is the equivalent of taking a life, you will fight to prevent it (I think 99% of people would agree to this). A lot of people who are pro-life believe abortion is exactly that. I don't think Christians view it as a religious stance but more so a fundamental stance, if that makes sense. Case in point, there are a lot of non-Christian pro lifers out there. I understand the frustration and/or confusion though, it's sticky business :/
I remember Angel and Jason from Jubilee's video with progressive Christians vs. conservative Christians. It's heart-warming to see how much Angel grew in his beliefs and how much more comfortable he is with himself now. Pastor Jason, on the other hand.. I'm sorry to say, but he is just firmly narrow-minded and doesn't sound loving at all.
He is preaching what the Bible says, maybe you dont like the Bible at all and thats your choice, but he is the only one defending what the Bible teaches wheather ppl like it or not. Also you said he is marrow minded, maybe its because of this: Matthew 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

@@authorjoannawhite What demonstrable harm is caused by homosexuality?
@@kinggenius930 what does causing harm have to do with anything?
@@authorjoannawhite Well why else should something be considered wrong or "sinful"? For example, I can fully understand why adultery could be seen as wrong as it can cause demonstrable harm. Can't see how the same is true of homosexuality
@@authorjoannawhite,
Even with your clarification, I can understand why LGBTQ people would not want to be in Christian spaces. We just don't want you to act on who you are at your very core."
That wouldn't make you eager to be in x space, would it?
Go Jason! We need more Christians like him who aren't afraid to speak God's Truth in love even when they get pushback. Well done, brother in Christ! 👏

What about all the non white missionaries, and what do you want them to do? Just stand there and not help poor countries?
@@5xmasterx548 apparently lol, impoverished communities are being helped during these mission trips but apparently people think it’s more beneficial to just call people colonizers online and do nothing in the real world

By reading the whole chapter and seeing who the verse is spoken by, to, where, and when. Evangelicals are terrible Bible readers generally.
Jubilee selected progressive Christians and said that they were “evangelical Christians” because they realized that no true Bible believing Christians would disagree on these topics
Jason did
except Jason
These are not Christian’s. Older asian guy is the only one who is decently Christian.
Am I the only one who watches this, as a Christian and is so discouraged?
Why discouraged? Do you care to share?
@@constanzzcheng5377 Because none of this "Christians" are actually Christians, they're just a bunch of liberals using twisting Christianity to spread their liberalism.
Don’t be! I’m a Christian but it was clear that with the exception of Jason, they got a bunch of progressive Christian’s & called them evangelicals. So not really a fair video but I guess that’s what’s going to happen if you only have people from LA
@@HopeWren Evangelical is not synonymous with conservative or christian fundamentalist.
@@HopeWren I think it's terrible that they represent us this way. I think Jubilee is awfully stereotypical when picking people to come talk for especially anyone Christian. This makes people think that Evangelicals are like this. I think if Jubilee should take these responsibilities far more seriously!
Jubilee, the amount of progressive evangelicals in this video is appalling. As someone that literally attends an Evangelical Theological Society every year, this is not representative of Evangelicals. I applied to be in this video, and I didn't get any response. Please try to diversify these videos.
Your KKK mask on the latest video is more appalling
these evangelicals are all progressive, even jason is probably more progressive than your average evangelical, this clearly does not represent their group and is kinda misleading
I agree that the evangelicals are progressive, but how is Jason more progressive? He seems like the most conservative out of all of them.
@@LeslieFlemons i said he is more progressive than the average evangelical just in general, not within the show
@@Pablo-ix3xf oh okay
it's not misleading at all, of course these few people won't be able to represent the entirety of evangelicals. it's up to you to take their individual viewpoints as exactly what they are and realize that they're only representing themselves. 🤔
@@kennedy3682 my friend most of then things said have nothing to do with evagelical belifs
Woah, angle changed so much, within a year. haven’t even gotten past 4 mins and I can see a huge difference on where he stands as a Christian.
Asian guy is the ONLY hardcore and humble true Christian!
They are all Christians!
@@Zoolama34709 lukewarmers are NOT christians!
Amen.
@@Zoolama34709 Some are self-proclaimed Christians, and one is a follower of Christ.
As a progressive and queer Christian, don't think that by being progressive you'll fit in more, or people who are non-christians will listen to you more. I received the same interest when I was repeating conservative things that were said in my church as I did when my views evolved. Nor did it ever cross my mind that because I was a progressive I would fit in. Being progressive was a real challenge because my interest was deeply in being accepted by my family and my church, and to achieve that, I was pretending to be someone I was not.
