  • We got to catch up again with Samuel from Zoom at NAMM 2024 to find out about the latest updates to their renowned multi-stomp pedal series. The new MS50G is the first in the lineup, catering specifically to guitar effects enthusiasts. With 100 built-in effects and the ability to use up to six simultaneously, the pedal is a versatile solution for musicians looking to maximize their pedal board space.
    Samuel also introduces the MS200D , a distortion pedal designed to fill the crunch gap in the series, featuring 200 distortion options, including 36 classic tones and 164 Zoom designs. This pedal allows users to combine effects, experiment with series or parallel configurations, and quickly switch between two effects using the alternate mode. While the MS50G is already available, the MS200D is set to release in the coming months, promising an expanded range of algorithms and effects.

    As a happy user of the MS-70CDR, I fervently hope that Zoom add a MIDI input (even if only 3.5mm) for clock sync! Maybe even a pulse clock input to interface with the Volcas et al. :)

    • @JonDeth
      @JonDeth Месяц назад +1

      @@luisbarrera5740 it's deceptive. The 12AX7 is arguably the most favored active device used in guitar amplification technology and they cap off at about 20 khz in operating bandwidth, but you'll find most tube pedals and tube amp designs top out at around 10 Khz.
      If processor is designed well, it could be capped off at 10 or 20 Khz and you'd never notice it. In fact, one of the reason solid-state is disliked by so many players is the extremely high, even order harmonic production that results by the use of semiconductors on both analog and digital equipment.
      You play a 100 Hz bass note and yet it has that "crust" of rasp and staticky sound which is sometimes up to 100 Khz of audible harmonics coming through from a 100 Hz range note. It's actually that semiconductors are more accurate and conduct a lot more of the sound, but in terms of how it sounds, it's not typically favored.
      If I play my 8-string guitars through my Zoom G2 vs my Zoom G5, the G2 has *WAY* better clarity and note separation and that's because it caps off at 40 Khz in terms of frequency reproduction regardless of the 96Khz sampling. If I hit a shredding and bassy arpeggio on my 8-string guitars, it's phenomenally clearer and more defined through the G2, but being over 20 years old the sound quality isn't overall as good which is an irrelevant attribute;it's old.
      So, the sampling rate of these is actually an advantage. I'm an engineer and working on my own analog and digital designs. one of my critical design topologies is not taking the circuits so ridiculously high in bandwidth. It eliminates the nightmare of "trash" in the signal that people despise solid-state for. Given another 5 to 10 years at most, I expect digital to account for over 90% of all guitar gear sales. Tubes will die out with most players as the best of the best within a 10 year mark.

      I think fx loop is pretty forgettable tbh, as gladly there are a lot of cheap fx loop and blender pedals out there, but... I agree MIDI is a MUST today (either for external control or clock sync), even more important if the MS-70CDR+ is supposedly marketed for keys/synth players. Lack of space is not an excuse today because of MIDI thru mini-TRS jacks.

    The MS70-CDR, at the very least, needs headphone out. If zoom realizes that a lot of us would be using this with a synth, understanding that there are sooooo many portable synths these days that need effects, they should realize how mandatory headphone out is... Without headphone out I'll be buying the new NTS-1, instead, just for adding effects to my synths on the go...

    • @jocee2257
      @jocee2257 8 месяцев назад

      You could just use a y-splitter cable to connect your headphones? Or just invest in a mixer, or something like an octatrack. Your comment makes absolutely no sense and headphone out on a pedal sounds dumb AF

    • @LeRoy3rd
      @LeRoy3rd 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@jocee2257 First, the output level is too low for headphones, so using a splitter wouldn't be an option. Second, if you read my comment, using this with portable synths, bringing along a mixer, or even a headphone amp, nullifies any of the benefit you'd get from a small, cheap, multi effect unit like this. It would make far more sense, at that point, to just purchase a higher quality effects unit, most of which *do* have headphone output, as they realize the advantage this gives in the use case I've outlined.

      @jocee2257 Since when is an Octatrack something you *just* get? The synth community really do be posh as fuck. Slightly bigger multieffects like the Line 6 HX stomp have a headphone out and it's a super useful addition for home playing. Reckon they didn't put it on the Zooms because (aside from the price concerns) you'd get idiot guitarists who'd plug their distortion pedals in without a cab sim then proclaim it "souns like ass on headphones".

    • @LeRoy3rd
      @LeRoy3rd 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@NONAMEACCESSIBLE Agreed. One of my favorite synths to bring with me on the bus, or to the laundromat, or the library, is my MicroFreak. But it sounds pretty sterile without some delay and reverb. The idea of bringing something expensive, and heavy, like an octotrack, is ridiculous. Zoom's line of pedals is far more capable than, say, the nts-1, but it's also not as usable in a scenario like this. I need some sort of effects unit that's small, usb-powered, and has headphone out. It's not a complicated situation. Currently I just run my synth into my phone and use fl studio mobile for some simple effects, but it's not a great solution. For my use case, unfortunately, it seems like the new nts-1 is probably a better solution, and, added bonus, that gives me another mono-synth to play with. 😄

    *The 200 is so incredibly tempting* but my current desire is an all in one unit in a pocket sized package. It's also an ingenious design because the amount of people that will want it is ridiculous and it also guarantees we'll be buying something else to pair with it and take up the slack.
    *I'm about the only shred, sweep and chug guy that likes a really dry signal* with just high gain distortion, but I do use a tiny bit of reverb or delay frequently and without an EQ or the ability to stack 4 or 5 amp/gain/distortion effects?
