The Zoom MS series has got a major update! Five big stomps on such a small pedal, to get the ultimate control over it. I had to check it for myself. But what about the sounds. The MS-50G+ comes with 100 selected effect. Compared to it's older brother that seems tough! In this video I show you what I would do with this limited amount of effects. I also share my presets for free here: berlinshoegaze... Let me know if you would use the new MS-50G+ on you pedalboard! Would love to hear your thoughts. For more infos, check out zoomcorp.com/e...

Big thanks to ZOOM and Sound Service Berlin, for sending over the pedal!🙏
Hi Kenneth - this is GREAT 👍 I’m one of those who picked up an MS-50 & MS-70 from your past videos. So glad Zoom produced an updated MS pedal rather than abandon it! 😃
Yeah, I'm also happy they did a new run of these pedals. If we could have all the sounds from the old version I would be more amazed. But I see that they need to sell their products.
@@berlinshoegazerkeep in mind the remote control feature is cabled, I.e. you need a USB to USB c adapter dongle to make it work. I don't think you can control it from PC, either, it's app based. And the app costs a dollar it's not free. I sent mine back and kept my old one. you also lose the ABCD 1234 etc. function where you could cycle through patches. You only get to choose like an AB to switch back-and-forth between . I might try the Ms80IR, though.
I bought it :) amazing pedal. Should i get the ms70 to ? Or is it possible to load a patch to emulate it?
@@agressiveburito9855 these new pedals are not yet cross compatible with each other, or the old ones, patch wise. There’s a few people working on it independently, but right now the process is really long and convoluted and not always guaranteed to work..
@CedricSatterfield oh i see... thanks !!
When I saw the new model I wondered if the Shoegazer channel would do a review of it. I'm happy you did! You're really the only channel I've seen that gives this pedal the respect it deserves. Thank you! It'd be nice if Zoom included a universal volume for their overdrive/fuzz settings so that when I turn them on, it doesn't blow my speakers.
Thank you for your words. These pedals are great babsically and very useful. But yes, they have it's little issues here and there. But still good for their price. The new version is a little too limited effect-amount-wise, but I think it's a cool new design idea.
Thanks for the review! I am someone who actually got a MS50g long before I discovered your channel, but I have loved all the Zoom multistomp content you have contributed to the community.
have both MS50g and MS70cdr and they're both amazing muiti effects pedal to have.
Great video as always! Got both the 50G and the 70CDR. I've had them both on my pedalboard for years. Really cool pedals!
Thank you. I sold them. Then I bought three of them. Then I sold them. Then I missed them. Now I built them into a new guitar.
A fantastic band from melbourne lowtide uses these. Gabe the guitarist had a pedal board bigger than a dinner table and then converted to using 4-5 of these. Using 4 effects at once inside each pedal. Theyre incredibly powerful pedals for their footprint
We have to try this!
You really do need to get a jazzmaster 12 string and a bass VI (the Squire versions). I got myself both last year, and they are currently the only instruments I'm playing and writing music with. Between the 2 of them, they have everything you need to write and practice. They are also super cool and well worth the price tag
God i need them too
I will definitely buy a bass VI again. I played it for some time. But the one I had was buzzing as hell. I was young, and needed a working instrument and sold it to buy a mustang bass. But it was cool to play this hybrid instrument. Never played a 12 string so far. I would love to experiment with tunings on these.
@berlinshoegazer 12 string isn't that different other than the strings are in pairs so it's super easy if you play bass. Other than that, everything sounds better played as an open cord, and you'll use slightly different strumming patterns.
@@berlinshoegazerif you want a more reliable bass vi I highly reccomend the gretsch baritone guitar. its 30 inch scale length can easily do bass vi stuff, and it’s such a smooth instrument.
Wow. Thank you for this great lesson. I have new respect for this pedal. I will see how far I can get with my old one, but I'd certainly get the new one at some point. Cheers from Montreal! 😎
🥲 Muchas gracias. So happy to hear that!
Gonna definitely grab the cdr70+ didnt realize it was coming out so soon
Yeah, I also have to check this one I guess.
Wow man !!! You really get all the juice from this pedal !! Amazing stuff !! keep on gazing !! Cheers from South America !!! PS. I bought my Zoom MS50G because of your video too ;)
Thanks for one of the few reviews on this pedal. I own a couple of the 50G’s and will connect one to two Headrush 108 speakers and it sounds amazing. I setup pretty simple presets like a TwoRock with a little delay and plate reverb. I just don’t have a need for the way out there mods, SFX and delays that this thing features. There is one drawback with the new 50G+, which they might address with a future update. It has no plate reverb or TwoRock amp per the Zoom websites list of effects on the 50G+. Except for the new interface, I see no reason to purchase the 50G+ at this time.
Lots of cool sounds. Loved the jam at the end.
Thank you so much. It was super fun.
I would love a video with band recommendations, popular and not popular bands!
The sound engg once gave me a disapproving look when he saw my compact set up made possible with the ms50g, till he heard my tone and what i could do with my set up. He now owns the 70cdr and an ms 50g on his set up. I have adopted a simplistic and just enough set up / board from a massive "hey-look-at-my-shiny-colourful" collection of pedals to a really compact up made possible by these pedals....
hi kenneth! awesome video, do you think you can do a video on free plugins for shoegaze/dreampop?
Thanks, Grandeline. Sure, I'd love to.
awesome video! I’ve been on a “zoom frenzy“ lately and rewatching your old videos has been a great source of inspiration, got me wondering if you would do a review of this newer run of pedals.
I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind:
- how’s the noise floor here? I only have a (hacked) G1on and I’m thinking if any of these two will do better
- have you tried the new MS-200D+ (only drives and fuzz)?
I think these new.200D+ could be interesting, some of the sounds are really good just from watching some videos.
Amazing video!! I always enjoy the sounds you make with pedals!! What did you use to connect your mic to the pedal??
Thank you. So glad you like my sound creations. For the mic I use an impedance jack cable to XLR. It has a little switch to connect balanced line signals to unbalanced inputs to get a good sounding audio quality.
Hey man, Great video! I bought my MS-50G a couple months ago, and i've been loving it, however the metal footswitch in the middle has become a bit loose after extensive gigging. I don't think anything is broken, but its probably just a bolt that has gotten loose. However, i haven't been able to find a way to get into the pedal to tighten it.
Do you have any suggestions how i could possibly resolve this problem?
I already tried contacting Zoom direclty, but their customer service could use some improvement haha.
Thanks so much in advance!
When the band I'm in opened for The Veldt, their bassist used 2 multistomps, and Wata from Boris uses one.
Word!
If that doesn't speak for their potential.
Did you just casually drop a fire jam while playing around for this video!?? Damn rite you did!! Haha.
I got a zoom g1xon that I installed the hack for thanks to your video. I still absolutely love it and use it more than my Helix floor for home when I'm trying to be creative. I'm glad zoom is continuing to develop the multistomps but I'm really disappointed in it's limited FX list. They have so many amazing effects that really give these things character so it's disheartening to see them unnecessarily continue to lock them away in different products. Oh well.
Ps, would love to see another Makefunnoises with Helix video. :)
Thx for the video. Does it sound better than the previous (non +) version? Yes, it has a better UI and display, but is there a difference in sound quality? Otherwise, to me, the open editor to load FX pedals for free without an iPhone seems to be the better option. Thank you.
I think the new effects are more defined and less noisy imo. But I don't know if they really changed something. The pitch shifter sounded also more stable.
thank you millennialgazer love your videos
between 50g and 50g+ which one should I buy?
?
The musical sensibility is crazy good
Love your playing mate
Have you got any bits on you tube
that beat from pocket operator is cool, you are a great musician
I bought 70CDR because of your videos and it's awesome!
The only thing that kinda confused me is where you plugged the pedal in your older videos. Was it in FX loop or straight into the amp input/audio interface?
I always go straight into the input of my interface or amps because of all the distortion I use. But if you only use mod, delay and reverb, you could also check the FX loop. Could sound even better.
I bought it :) amazing pedal. Should i get the ms70 to ? Or is it possible to load a patch to emulate it?
CDR+ is coming very soon. Supposedly early May here in the states
Yeah, I heard about that. Maybe I get the chance to make another one of these videos.
Pls make one for the zoom ms70 cdr!!
You mean the new one - the MS-70CDR+ ?
That one hasn't been released yet right?@@berlinshoegazer

Thanks for your video. I still lol at your old 'anonymous Russian hacker video':) Just a question about the new Zoom. Does it also work as an interface? Thanks in advance and greetings from Panama.
Planning on getting the plus soon.
is the polyphonic pitch shifter or a similar effect on the regular ms50g aswell?
Yes!
Really curious what that seemingly in-line pre-amp 1/4" to XLR cable is that you use for the mic input! I didn't know that kind of thing existed. I've been using a Zoom H5 as a pre-amp just to plug my mic into pedals and it'd be great to have an easier solution
I'm good with my modded 70CDR, but thanks again for the video! :)
Heyy I have a big doubt and I want to know what you think.
I'm really hesitating whether to buy this pedal or buy the Zoom g1x four.
They're both really good pedals and it's hard to choose which is better haha😅
I’m interested, but even with its updates, I think I will wait to see if community support develops before I get one. Otherwise I think I would just want another of the OG lol.
Yeah, I totally get that.
Great video. I still love my 70cdr.
Same here! thank you.
I think the original currently is priced higher than the new updated one because of two things. One you can get more patches with the old model because zoom added more to it. Second, the controls are too small for ergonomic use as foot pedal. I think it should be used as desktop effects module and not a pedal per say. With that said do you not like humbuckers and metal tones?
Your IR sounds accurate what is it? where can I get it? :)
Tried 2 50g’s and a 70CDR and couldn’t get past the tone and dynamics suck the ADA conversion did. The new ones have the same specs but are they any better?
Hi! Not specifically related to the Zoom, but just wondering what you use to convert the mic output so you can use it with a guitar pedal. I've been looking into "low z converters", but I'm still new pretty new to this. btw, I purchased the zoom MS50G to experiment with guitar effects a few years back after watching your videos. your videos are the best. thanks :)
Its called an Male XLR to Jack impedance cable.
What really bothers me is that you can hear the stereo image being lost after putting a compressor or overdrive effect after the reverbs and delays. If they made it a bit more expensive but full stereo, that would make it an instant buy.
does this 9v deeper power socket on +series means we cannot use our angled daisy chain connectors?
It worked great with angled daisy chain connectors.
The previous version has a footswich list, it assigns a letter to a patch, A B C... and changes the patch with footswich in an orderly way, it is vital in live. Does this plus version have that function? Thank you
I wish they would make these pedals in a normal multi-effects processor form factor with an expression pedal and full size foot switches. Zoom makes pedals like that, but not with the 50 or especially the 70CDR options. They could charge more for the larger display, etc., but it would be a lot easier to use.
The g2 four exists
@@ShadamAran What's your point? The MS-70CDR has twice the effects as the G2 Four, and all of them effects vs amp models.
Hey mate, have you tried the new pedal on the old software to crack it?
Yes, doesn't work (yet).
Is changing from one memory patch to another seamless without interruption to the guitar signal on the new 50g+?
is this one compatible with their desktop app? iphone only is pretty ridiculous if that's the case. that said the video made me get one lol so i guess ill have to do the patches by hand
Atm only via iPhone, what's pretty sad. But hopefully they will add a Desktop app at least.
@@berlinshoegazer I'm assuming they will, they would be fools not to.
I primarily play bass and with that I primarily play ska-punk.
As far as guitar I still don't know what I'm doing but Im only really interested in shoegazey sound so this think is a big help keeping me interested and working on guitar. I only have 3 pedals, a vintage Ibanez stereo Chorus, a RAT and this. Bought a digiverb years ago last time I messed with 6 strings but gave it away when I sold my last guitar. Thanks for the work you do, I wouldn't be aware of this pedal w/o you
what was that mic cable you used to plug into the pedal?
is the polyphonic pitch shift an improvement on the pitch shift in the MSCDR70?
I couldn't tell for sure. The MS-50G polyphonic pitch shift sounds a little better. But it could just be my imagination.
I love this video
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it. 🫡
@@berlinshoegazer Been a huge fan of your channel for years. Always good content. This video was exceptional!
I have a shoegaze band, if you're interested in checking it out. I do everything myself. It's called Trophy Grief.
Take care bud ✌️
Zoom MSG! Uncle Roger approves.
Jamie Oliver magazine though...
That's not me. 😂 That's my neighbour. Okay it's me. But I learned a lot of cooking through Jamie.
I sold off my Zoom G1Xon after several years of faithful service. Does this have the Z-Organ effect? Or is it missing, like on the G(1/2)X Four?
You can see the full effects list on the webpage of the zoom ms 50g+. There is a download link to the pdf with all the available effects.
The only two things I didn’t liked about it were the lack of a looper and the design
wish they put input for volume control,so can use volume pedal
How do you intonate that Jag with a full-scale neck on it?
Most likely some adjustments to the floating bridge jaguars have, but also I have no idea what I’m talking about, only commented since I got a jag
With a longer neck you have to change the position of the bridge a little closer to the whammy bar. Two times the length from the first fret to the center of the center points of the 12th fret. And then plus 4mm. Then it should be perfectly intonated.
They have effects locked behind an app? And theres only an ios version? That sucks dude, might be a dealbreaker for me. I buy a pedal but cant use all of the effects because of my phone? Wtf lol
Yeah, I don't get it as well.
Is it possible to get amp models on the new version?
There are at least two amp distortions on the pedal. But you should check out their effect list on the Zoom website to be sure.
Zoom should have made it rechargeable, have an FX loop, and a looper pedal effect should’ve been integrated. Then it would’ve really been the ms-50g PLUS
The only plus is the colourful display and the four new stomps, actually.
has anyone seen if they can use zoom effects manager with the plus models?
As a fellow Darkwing Duck fan, I have to say I'm not at all sure what that sound has do with it
Haha. That's true. The effect reminded me of ducks quark. And I needed a catchy name to remind myself of what the preset does.
it's very odd that this is *the only form factor* of Zoom pedals people like.
Zoom has great delay, verb and modulations.
It's probably just very handy and compact. Not always the best to use, but practical.
Do you think the zoom manager works in this and the MS70CDR+?
Not yet - but it should in the future.
The only preset I would ever use is the Cocteau Twins. Sounds great. The rest make me feel queasy
i got one of these and was a little dissapointed because the old one has more features, like being able to mark each preset a b c d and then switch presets by tapping a single button
That's true. I forgot to mention that. This option was very useful.
@@berlinshoegazer just got the app too by the way and there are no new effects to download! Wasted money on an adapter for it too
@@junglemast3r I just bought an ms 50g+ hoping that I could download from the app the extra effects which the previous model has (delays, reverbs etc)... I was looking for a camera adapter but if it stills no extra effect available in the app, I will probably return the ms 50g+ and buy ms 70cdr+ or the original, since I'm mainly use the modulation, and reverb effects..
@@paikosporichis6773 yeah if you want downloadable effects the ms50g is better than the plus. They are literally selling the plus with a false claim of extra effects
So there's no Cab sim/IR AT ALL???
afaik they're making a separate IR pedal in the same form factor
Yep, they seem to make different MS+ pedals for different uses. They probably try to avoid mixing up the effects as last time.
If the 50 g has 70 more effects than the 50g plus it seems that the only advantage is the four toggle switches
Why buy a new pedal with less effects than the okd one
That's the million dollar question. Idk
dope and fly
Is there a Whammy mode for the button to become an expression?
No, not so far.
Can we have like 3 overdrive pedal in 1 patch?
Sure, why not? :)
Diret to pa? Return or in front of an amp?
All of those options. Always depends on you personal needs.
I hacked my CD70 with the editor software. It's so much more useful now, thanks for that trick. This one comes with all the effects?
Happy it worked out for you. This one is limited to 100 effects. But new ones, and some sound much better than on the old series.
Anybody kmows if the effects manager hack works in the Plus series?
not that i know of. at least not yet
Hopefully they update it, I would love to have the polyphonic pitch shifter since it’s a new effect but I don’t see it worth it to upgrade to the plus version
Imagine the new software and hardware with all these effects from the other pedals.. 🤯
ICH LIEBE DICH!! ☺ Awesone!
Can software 50 plus can use on 50g?
Would be cool, but no.
Too bad they still didn't make it a two screen with seperate tap tempo and expression input
BERLIN SUPERBOOTH 2024
Have they just improved the UI? I was hoping they would improve the sound or number of effects it can use at once. Putting a 10 year old pedal in a new box is not making me pull out my wallet. Very disappointed
I also think the could communicate this a litte better. But from testing the pedal I'd say the sounds are more defined, less noisy and the pitch shifting more stable.
So this is what a Godless life sounds like... just noise. 😊
Could be hacked?
Hopefully soon.
The + doesn't (yet?) have a reverse reverb patch, but the original model does - so if you wanna do MBV style shoegaze, I'd stick with the original
Yeah, it's too bad they god rid of many effects.
Im sorry but you couldve been WAY more critical about this mediocre update to an otherwise pretty awesome product.
If the old version had never existed this wouldve been more impressive...
But no preset switching, byebye legacy effects and no Midi In/Out.
They've completely ignored all requests from the community, which would've eaten up these new pedals if they had all these functions but now instead these pedals are flopping, almost nobody is buying these pedals 🤦🤦🤦
Totally get your point. I am still open for upcoming updates, as they released those pretty fast the las time. But as you say it, I fear there won't be much about the overall software.
@@berlinshoegazer I'm pretty sure EVERYONE is open to updates ;) but they can't add midi in/out with an update
Definitely a downgrade.
If there is a possibility to add more effects later and make the device your own, as with the old version, I think this one has a chance. But regarding the missing desktop and android app, it's quite sad in some way.
@@berlinshoegazer Yeah I think there's still hope but I won't be getting rid of the old one anytime soon.
Old version was better
You are the third person I read since yesterday I started to look for opinions who says the old version is better.
One guy said that old version had cab simulator and this one not. Is this true?
Why you think it is better the old version??
@@jonathanchable8683 yeah its true but i won't buy any zoom product for cab sim cause i think they all sound awful. I think old one is better because it has some really cool delays and reverbs that this version don't have like the black hole reverb. I mean this one seems cool too but it doesn't feel like a upgrade to me so i think it doesn't worth the money and that's why i think old one is better.
A shoegaze fan and an Android user? Strange combination. Android aesthetics are horrible, I thought shoegazers had good taste in aesthetics generally.
