..i fully am with you !!.. in 10 years i have bought hella lot of pedals and ditched, sold, gave away ALL of them. !!..i limited myself to the sound I WANT for my music and eliminated any that didn't fit my SoundVision...i am down to maybe 6- 7 pedals i MUST have AND USE on my pedalboard...great video..i LOVE ALL your worthwhile presentations...god luck buddy. !!
Found myself liking every single pedal featured in the video, but that divide between a gear collector or a dabbler with a lot of disposable income, and a working musician who often has to be more pragmatic in their approach what they use and what they keep is undeniable. The MS-70 would scratch 90+% of any of my musical itches as a casual dabbler who listened to a lot of shoegaze music.
I keep my supernatural reverb at my studio, and use my ms 50g live to recreate it’s ambient soundscapes live/rehearsals. Lovely pedal, but the zoom ms series are AMAZING
i loved this examination. thank you for taking the time and effort to explain what, why, and how. for me, i have a mix of old/obsolete gear (SP-202, QuadraVerb GT, JamMan Stereo), modern and multi-functional boxes (Specular Tempus, Alpha Haunt, Oceans12 ), and some stuff that seems so deep that i'll never fully understand, no matter how deep i may dive (Pladask Matrise, Roland TR-6S). honestly, the real problem is this: i feel that i've developed relationships with all of this tech, and to let them go would be unwise and short-sighted. it's likely illogical and unhealthy, but it is what it is. my solution was to get a shelf and grab the boxes i need in the moment for the project at hand. liked/subscribed
I recently just got a zoom. Man they’re good! My friend Gabe has a fantastic band called lowtide and an incredible guitar sound and he recently switched his massive pedal board for 4 zoom cdr’s playing into 3 different boss katana amps. I couldn’t believe the guitar still sounded the same as the recordings
I think you’ll really dig Lowtide man. The first EP and first album are magic and they’re an incredible live band. There was a really great shoegaze scene here in Melbourne a few years ago! My band contrast used to play in a really cool scene with lowtide, flyying colours who are both still active. But great bands came and went that made some fantastic albums and ep’s. Hideous Towns, Parading, Bloodhounds on my trail, VIM and Blush Response yo name a few. I’m still quite happy with the Contrast album singularity we made as well. I think you might find things you like in all those bands... Check it out!
Yes, it absolutely is...! I really like it as well.. The Julia single was unreal as well. I just thought the first ones were a good place to start for someone who hadn’t heard
Recommendation for a delay to check out Kenneth: Keeley ECCOS. It has presets, tap tempo, a looper, ext input, it's stereo and can create crazy modulated delays. A pedal I might want to get rid off: the Boss PS-2. Just didn't bond with it, find it unpractical and don't like the limited pitch shifting options. Want to replace it with the ehx Pitchfork for bass emulations. Nice vid again!
i remember being undecisive on my first reverb. i was between the supernatural and the RV7. because and it's funny that you mentioned the longdecay 'cause it was also one of my requirements. in the end I ended up going for the RV7, for including the reverse and the gated reverb for glide/spooky weird tone i still have it and i never regret having decided on that one. although in the future i would like to acquire the supernatural too. i currently use the RV7 in gated mode and combine it exactly with particle reverb from ms50g to give longspace reverse + shimmer effect with my squier jaguar. i find it funny and great at the same time that you choose exactly the same thing that interests me. it always inspires me and i notice new details, such as the difference between the gated of the digiverb and the hardwire, because i had not noticed that "gated" sound... now i feel like i need it urgently haha i do not have the digiverb but i have tried it and had the same appreciation only with the difference on the reverse reverb that the oscillation was softer on the digiverb than on the RV-7. a big greeting kenneth. i follow your channel since a lot and had never left a comment on your channel, so it's my first :} (i'm pretty bad at talking and commenting, but when i do i express a lot haha) P.S: supernatural reverb = cocteau twins hardwire RV-7 = mbv
Hey man, thank you so much for leaving a comment. Great to hear you having the same opinion on these things. Sometimes I ask myself if the things I'm sharing are just super subjective. :) omce you get a Supernatural - hold on to it. It will be very valuable. :D
I love using my walrus slo and have just started messing around with a keeley realizer. Some has probably already said my the EHX Canyon is pretty solid man.
For me I think that Zoom and the presets people have shared will do the job. I am looking at the HX Stomp and I cant justify $700. I'd also like an M5 only for the particle verb - but guess what? The Zoom MS has a copy of it. Loving your videos!
if line6 added a reverse reverb to the hx stomp it would be a real contender for best all in one solution, ive been bugging them to do it for a while now not sure if it's grabbed any of their engineers attention
Agreed. I do recommend tracking down Jeff Schroeder’s Glide Guitar patch tho. He’s using a setting on one of the verbs that I don’t know if I would have come across that on my own. It’s a pretty ambient sound and great for clean glide/tremolo use.
I am considering to buy the ms70cdr because I think it serves the purpose of what I want from a pedal, which are modulation, delay and reverb. I know there is a lot of pedals to get dual delays, delay and reverb and modulation. But as for now, only the ms70cdr, in compact pedal size, has modulation, reverb and delay, in one pedal, at least the only one I know. Please tell me if you know other options just for me to consider. If not, than I will definitely buy the ms70cdr. Thank you!
I love the CDR. It’s totally different from other pedals. There’s something a bit low-fi about it sometimes... but it has vibe for miles. It’s inspiring because it’s not the same as everyone else.. and you can quickly try out many options!
i bought an electro harmonix ripped speaker fuzz. it is good on guitar, but the behringer super fuzz sounds good on bass and guitar (and costs less). I am keeping it for now just because it can do a glitchy low battery sound that i like
I can't recall ever thinking "I don't vibe with this pedal maybe I should sell it." I always find a way to put it to use. The best advice I've heard- and I didn't realize I was already doing it until someone said it succinctly - is sometimes the best thing to do is to defeat the purpose of the pedal. For example, you have an ambient reverb and it's just not working out. Instead of making it sound like a dreamscape, make it sound like a nightmare and write a piece of music around that. If you have a thick high gain distortion that you're not feeling, try to make it sound thin and tiny then use it for interludes or double tracking. Every effect has an intended application and all of them can be used in unconventional ways. It's just up to you to be creative
I sold my Boss RV-6. The reverb was too thick for my instrument, and w/o pre-delay, I discovered, my harp got buried in the verb. Great reverbs in the box, but no pre-delay? nope.
As hesitant as I was to buy one...I have to say the EQD rainbow machine (I bought a used one) is phenomenal for the shimmery stuff. Magic button aside, (which is what scares some people off) the modulating pitch shift, and reverb effects are all very very usable..without ever engaging the magic button.
Guys, the Digitech Whammy 5t Gen has a 2.1 DC plug connector also comes with MIDI in. The only downside I see is the size of the pedal, not an issue though if you have a big pedalboard or if you rig is minimal as the one used by Tom Morello.
Got a Supernatural as my first reverb pedal around the same time as you, and really loved it. I wasn’t much into the soundscape thing at the time though, and all the sounds on it are a little too much, so I sold it when they started getting expensive. Regret dumping it, wish I still had one. I have “nicer” reverbs now I guess but it was the loss that now makes me keep every pedal I have unless I reallllly don’t like it lol.
Hardwire by DigiTech RV 7 - Stereo Reverb Pedal has "Lexicon Reverb's" (I'd have had-a-hard time, parting with that one). I'm currently using a Fender Spring Reverb (always-on) and a Big Sky for pads & special effects. Delay Recommendation: my massive-search-ended with the Boss DD-500 (it can do anything & everything).
I've tried a couple Klon Centaur clones, and they just don't sound good in my setup. The first one I got was a straight Chinese bootleg, so I assumed that was why it didn't sound very good. So then I got a different one that people assured me was accurate to the real circuit, and it sounded more or less the same as the bootleg pedal. I don't think it's the pedal's fault, per se, I think it's just something about my rig or how I play that the pedal just isn't working for me.
I know what you mean. I feel the same with the BOSS Distortion pedals like the Bluesdriver and the DS-1. Sound has so much to do with the own playing style. That's why it's so cool having many different musicians here on RUclips playing the same gear in different context.
have you heard of the nux time core deluxe? it's a really cheap (around 60 usd) stereo delay pedal with a ton of really rad features. tap tempo, reverse delay, preset saving, a weird glitchy looper thing. i think it would be up your alley!
Searching for more glitchy pedals, i've found that the Vox dynamic looper is great but, implies to use the looper for the majority of the great effects. Vox Delaylab enters in the "timestretching" zone using the Early reflections effect. Roland VT-3 can be used on guitar too, the "Scatter" effect does it more interesting. In the territory of microlooping like the Boss DD-5 does, the behringer's dd100 and dd40 can do it, Digitech Digidelay too, and may be a few more (EHX Canyon, DOD PDS series)... Boss PS3, Boss RV-3 and Marshall Echohead approaches to doing glitches/timestretching by tweaking knobs. Another interesting effect for soloing used by Adrian Belew, it can be achieved using a Digitech Harmonyman, but that idea was implemented later on the Digitech iStomp "Impossible pedal", i think it can be done with Behringer US600 and alikes (Ricochet may be). On the other hand i found interesting some racks, like Boss SE70, Roland SRV 3030/330, Digitech IPS33B, Alesis Quadraverb, Lexicon Vortex, and Yamaha's A3000 (this is really great)/4000/5000, may be Ensoniq DP-4 and Sony DPSV77 has potential for glitching and ambient generators. And for Bitcrushing Alesis Ineko, Mooer Lofimachine, Dedao Pixel can do it greatly. And for weird envelopes Digitech Synth wah, EHX Tube zipper, Subdecay Noise box are really special. In another investigation i've found that the Korg SQ-1 works really great for glitches like Autechre does, in combination with Boss RPS-10/RSD-10, may be Marshall Echohead, Boss PS-2, and Boss DSD-2/3, or Line6 M5. Aside all the mentions, Digitech Turbo flange, Digitech RP360XP, Catalinbread Csidman, Boss GT-001, EHX Hazarai, Mooer Reverie chorus, EHX Flanger hoax, Line6 Dr Distorto can create super wild noisy and stuttery textures, but i'm trying not to mention boutique stuff.
I got the Line6 DL4 after the Minus The Bear rig rundown, but I got rid of it because the build quality is poor and the delay time moves in small steps instead of continuously. I’m surprised no one notices that last part.
I sold the Digitech digiverb in order to get an MS70CDR. I wanted a Hardwire Reverb, but it was your channel that made me find out the 70CDR had a reverse reverb too
Anyone looking for (or trying to decide between) the Zoom MS series pedals might want to instead try to see if they can find a used MS-100BT at a good price instead. The MS-100BT came out at the same time as the others but was the 'deluxe' version and had the largest amount and variety of included effects in addition to the ability to purchase and add new ones via USB or a bluetooth phone/tablet app. I spent more than a few dollars loading mine up with additional sounds (ok, fine, there is already an Echoplex model that comes standard in the MS-100BT, but there's another, slightly different one in the store as well. Clearly I needed both). The additional effects were not expensive (if I remember correctly, $1US for effects and either $2 or $3US for amp models) but the best part is that when they discontinued the MS-100BT they made all of the additional effects free of charge so you can now just load up whatever you want. Also, the MS-100BT has stereo inputs and outputs and (I believe) the largest memory capacity of the MS series. Of course, if you cannot find one on the used market then the MS-70CDR is an excellent choice when paired with the secret software mentioned at the end of the video. You will most likely not mistake the sound of the Zoom MS series with the equipment that it emulates if you put them side by side with the originals and A/B them in a controlled environment but in a loud club, concert hall or even rehearsal at full volume (or, alternately, in a full mix if you are using it for recording) you will almost certainly not be able to tell the difference and the average audience will not know the difference either (nor will most care).
Actually, you can buy any of 'm. The same man who made this video made a video about the ability to "crack" these. See: ruclips.net/video/Ul-BYkV3PSk/видео.html&ab_channel=SHOEGAZER
i just bought the oceans 12 from ehx. the reverse and shimmer settings are awesome, and there's a ton of versatility. it's a bit smaller than a memory man, so it takes up a bit more space than a regular pedal, and i also have to use an external power supply due to its power consumption, but that isn't so much of a problem for me. might be worth looking into though. also thanks for the videos and pedal recommendations, you've helped me discover a lot of my favorite pedals :)
I used my Supernatural for years. It lived in my main board for over 6 years then migrated to my acoustic board. The Plate verb on it is one of the nicest in the biz and the Spring is great. The extra settings are mostly usable if you don't mind reaching for the knobs. I went midi. Nightsky and Volante have everything I need + ,and setting/accessing presets is easy. I try to hold on to my old pedals. There still cool, I kinda collect them like stamps or coins. I still use my old DOD 747 Supersonic Flanger, it sounds great!
I have the Polara, it has a nice Plate, I wonder if it's the same algorithm. I have thd Turbo Flange it's got a log of nice modulation and it can go slow, very slow. That's a good thing for my ambient noise.
Always give gear a second try or opinion. Go from five or so basic yet high quality fx and add some specific ones to your likings. My favs are Boss RE-20, Warm Audio JetPhaser, Ibanez 850od (EHX BM clone), ProCoRAT, Boss DS-1 (with tone at 12 o'clock or lower 😅). Wishlist: analog stuff Boss TR-2, BD-2, EHX Small Clone, Electric Mistress, Walking on the Moon, Good Vibes (optical and exp.pedal jack).
I have one, and the only knock I have on it is the 800 mA power requirement. That's more than most power supplies can push, so I need a separate wall wart line just for it.
still love my korg sdd 3000. it's got the same footprint as the vox, it's kinda big. also the line 6 M9 has a ton of good FX, it's old but so am I. also, in the closet is a yamaha magic stomp, some great FX on that as well
I have to admit, I sold my MS 70 CDR last week (along with a bunch of other stuff I don't use anymore). I still think it's a great pedal, but it's very noisy in my setup. Still, I'm so glad I had it while I did. I learned so much about effects and how to chain them with that pedal
Absolutely! You can learn lots of different chain ideas with these. I guess I will slowly say goodbye to mine too. But first I need to find the right hq replacements for delay, vibe and compression. I will check the verbzilla and the Boss RV-6 reverbs soon. Really curious how these sound.
SHOEGAZER For high quality Chorus / Vibe etc, i really love the GFI Synesthesia! It sounds just beautiful. And, you can use 2 effects! It’s all modulation effects. Lots of options for creative editing. It will really get you in the ms70cdr vibes.
The canyon by EHX or the flash back might be an upgrade from the multistomp for delay. Maybe also check out the Grand Canyon by ehx but that might be more expensive than you want. I personally use the regular canyon and it’s really great sounding pedal and the secondary setting are nice.
Thank you so much. I had the Canyon once and can't remember if I could set up presets there. Does that work on it? And I heard many good stuff about the Flashback. Have to try it.
@@berlinshoegazer the flashback triple delay, is 3 flashbacks, in one inclousere kind of like the vox, but it is smaller. the tone prints are great, and you get to stack the 3 delays parallel or series, that's great you don't move from one preset to the other you have 3 independant presets, that are individual, so they are stackable!
The ONLY Pedal I've ever gotten rid of was a DS-1 lol. Bought it for $20 used at a long & mcquade. The next day at practice, while going through a fender twin reverb it was ripping everybody's ears off (Yes, I should have adjusted the amp, but them my clean tone would be mud) so I sold it for $40 the next day lol. That was 12 years ago and now I wish I kept it. Used the money to buy a Behringer Reverb pedal for $5 and some beer though. The pedal I'll never let go is my EHX Memory boy. I just love it. No delay gets to me the same as this one does. Even the memory man or digital delays like the flashback or canyon. TBH if somebody offered me a Timeline for trade I'd turn it down. Just pure lo-fi analog magic.
I love my DT - but it IS huge and needs its own supply. I actually leave it off my board, and sometimes just put it next to it if I want to incorporate it into my sound.
I also got rid of my Keeley Loomer recently and replaced it with the Beautiful Noise Effects Endless Sleeper (dual delay). The Loomer is a great pedal, but it kind of is a one trick pony (despite all the options) and I never felt that either side was all that awesome on its own and it never seemed to play well with other pedals.
I definitely get that, the focus setting is the only verb I use on it, I’ve been messing with the reverse more (which is more of gated reverb) and I use a rams head muff clone with it
I was on the verge of getting rid of the Loomer when my partner (who does sound engineering) found a use for it in her travel kit: recording percussion for use in scores. We did a recording session at U of M not long ago with a percussionist that was incredibly fun with the Loomer--for instance, using a friction mallet on a timpani and sending it through both sides of the Loomer made an apocalyptic wall of sound like I'd never heard.
Digitech has got to be my favourite. I sold a Boss rv6 to buy a Polara, I have the Digidelay, TurboFlange, Metal Machine and the Merzbow pedal, I have the DS-1 clone with the tricked out eq, I was about to buy the TS clone for the same tricked out tone. Josh Scott went and educated folk to the delights of the feature set and tone shaping capabilities. Boom, big price hike. I went for a Demon fx, it switchs between the two classic circuits and has the Keeley moddded, brighter eq, stands out well in a mix. The original is dark, great for doomy stuff.
The Boss DD200 is a really good delay that covers all the bases, though it's a bit big, mine didn't stay because the Echorec emulation only managed 3 playback heads. You could have a look at my favorite delay the Boonar (from Dawner Prince) though with the swell up it gives a fantastic wash across everything (but maybe a little too 1986 for your needs)
I had the Elected Harmonix Good Vibes and got rid of it because it required outs original power supply. However it sounded so good, and I couldn't replace it. So I got it again.
If you’ve tried it, I’m curious what you think of the Alesis Wedge. Though it’s a tabletop unit, it does have all those “original” shoegaze sounds you discussed in the video - reverse, gate, and bloom reverbs with stereo capability - and it’s relatively small and light. (But you might not be interested in its dedicated power supply.) Regardless, I’m interested in your thoughts about it. Also, for pitchshifting delays, the new Eventide Micro Pitch might be an option for you.
I have the Supernatural and will never sell it. The plate mod setting alone is worth it. I get what you are saying, tho, and used prices have gotten ridiculous. I am considering adding the newer Flamma reverb pedal for general use. I have the Zoom 50G and find it a bit fussy to use. I know it can do a lot but I might switch to the CDR moving forward. RE: delay, I just picked up the Flamma mini analog delay with two echo options for $36. Nothing fancy, but it's tiny and adds just enough character to the signal chain that I think it is a keeper. As always, good video with clear, well-thought out explanations!
Great stuff. *hits subscribe* I dig your humor. I agree with the Vox Tonelab; great pedal but too big to be on my pedal board. I use a Boss TeraEcho for trails, a Sib Mr Echo for the warmth, Keeley Caverns 2 and Keeley Heinzman Trem o Verb. The Caverns has the shimmer reverb and delay...the Trem o Verb has the plate reverb and harmonic trem I like. My secret echo weapon is the Catalinbread Echo Rec. All of the Binson Echo Rec sounds and none of the costs and breakdown of analog tape. Shhh get one before it goes all Klon klowntown that is eBay. So yeah with currently multiple delays means no room for Vox even if it's sound is great. I am a collector so I'll use it in studio with double tracking some ambient harmony or counter point. I also agree with your take on the Loomer. It's not the greatest reverse swell but it's the fuzz that's just not to my taste. Way too muddy to my ears but if that's what ppl like...w/e. Also Not to my taste and got replaced: Sib Nick Nitro fuzz...replaced by Black Arts Tonework Pharoah Fuzz....then that replaced by Way Huge Fat Sandwich then...finally Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra. Boss SD1 gone...became a Waza Blues Driver BD2... now Jhs Boss Angry Driver. Jhs Ehx op Amp w/ It's the Great Smashing pumpkin/Charlie Brown eye mod (kidding)...gone Replaced with Jhs Moscow Mule modded EHX Green Russian big muff. Even EHX English muffin with actual tubes...just not to my liking. Jhs EHX soul food meat and potato mod replaced with JHS superbolt. So yeah it's a pattern and constantly changes. I'm a JHS fanboy here too. And running stereo is crucial to me with out wet dry set up into Roland JC 120 and Orange Dark terror into a 4x12 with Celestions. Six speakers of push that cannot compare to pc monitors. It's loud but that what attenuation is for. Cheers from Detroit... Where every day is a lost reverb trail... Into the dead city. Brian
My first pedal flip was the Source Audio C4. I was so pumped to get my hands on one and try out some cool synth sounds. Instead, I nearly blew out my ears with some awful user patches and listened in horror at the presets that were unusable for me. Not to mention the software interface that made no sense and lack of explanation by SA or any RUclips users on how to navigate it. I've never been happier to resell a pedal.
Big love the zoom... also i really like to have one day the Timebender and the Delaylab, but my favorite is the Boss PS3. Also doing research for using a boss ps2 as a noise machine. Somewhat i like the Digitech polara for the reverse, but with the Zoom is enough.
I dont know if the Behringer reverb machine is a good option to the Verbzilla. I was very interested in a Line6 M9 for reverb, delay, pitch in general, but seems to be the M5 has better quality being True bypass, but i dont know if the footswitches are equally bad.
I had a Mooer AnaEcho, loved it, so i wanted to take the next step and bought an ehx memory man. Didn't fit my sound at all, sold it and bought the mooer again
Im always selling stuff. Right now I’m using a line 6 helix. I run a bossfz2- keeley realizer -op amp big muff into helix. In the FX loop, I have a nuenaber immerse mk2.
Afterneath v3 by eqd, it was a great pedal but really underwhelming. Got a mr black bloodmoon to replace it and I absolutely love it! Sits great in my chain with my keeley loomer and walrus slo.
i kind of agree. i found that the afterneath v3 had a very limited range. however i still have it on my board and am trying to find new sounds. if i can't, i'll probably sell it and buy a delay of some kind
@@gloryxkid it's not so much that i don't like it. it works great for making trails with other pedals and can do some cool stuff. it's just that i've got a ton of other pedals on my board and i'm not sure if it's worth the space. i was thinking about buying the echo dream 2 by DBA, so selling the afterneath would put a good dent in the cost for that
You’re Zoom hack video bordered on genius & crossed over a few time with your humor. Well done dear brother! Cheers to a job well done and to zooms classic underrated pedals! I didn’t know it was you when I saw somebody criticizing the zoom pedal because I thought it was on the list of pedals you don’t use but I think you really should use that pedal for experimentation on your normal set up but I guess you have tons of petals. What do you find the best as far as all in one small footprint, multi effects?
The Zoom MS50G is still back in my studio. Exactly for the experimenting part. I also try to put its electronics into a guitar. So it's still the best small multistomp out there in my opinion. But I love some of the distortion sounds of the Zoom 505g more.
I gave up all of my pedals after acquiring the HX Stomp lol. Great drive/dist/fuzz, modulation, pitch shifting, and delay selections, decent reverbs(new ones just came with an update, more to come). might pick up the Poly Beebo tho
I got both of them and the are just so different but great at the same time. Although the poly is more for synth engine users and computer screen fans and the HX Stomp feels and sounds like a very compact pro guitar rig.
Used to have the Zoom CDR sold it as I eventually owned Strymons. Another big one for me was going from Strymon rig into H9, Zoia, Beebo modular effects pedals And now all back to Strymon. And decided to make it all as Strymon board I’ve switched into using Strymon Riverside in place of my Jackson Audio pedals and Origin Effects. 🤣
I don't know why anyone stop using the Timebender. If you were having issues with the blend, yours might have been a little hurt. I always turn it down because the point right before its completely wet is louder than my input.
i had a bigmuff, whammy iv, digitech badmonkey, tc nova repeater, digitech jamman, korg ax3000g a behringer delay i dont remember and a behringer v-amp . all of them i had to sell at various points of my life due to being poor/homeless. now i have a digitech death metal and zoom g1on wich is exactly as the ms50g but in a plastic enclosure and is way way cheaper
great video idea, happy owner of a dozen cool effects...always delighted, never sold one...idea for a delay... why not hungry robots, obne, mooer, dba minidelay??
Check out Digit/Beebo from Poly Effects. A modular pedal with almost unlimited possibilities for experimental signal chains - it could replace half a dozen of your current pedals (like a Multistomp on steroids).
Kenneth, I am curious about what you kept en ditched 2 years later (after your puchase of a HX Stomp as a I recall). Is there still a place for some small pedals in your work ?
TC Flashback triple delay is Huge, but can midi clock synch to other gear and you can some magical ambient vibes with this pedal by itself. Not sexy, but I haven't found anything that threatens to push it off my board despite wanting something cooler.
Hi, I don't know if it's too big for your pedalboard but I love my boss dd20, it has tap tempo, presets, beautiful sounds (I love the mod and the tape delays), it's built like a tank and it's cheap (more or less 100 euros)
Brilliant !!! Thank you for assuring me that even with budget friendly pedals I can get the sound's I need for the music that I make ,,,I also have the ms 70 and allthough I'm not a collector ( WISH I COULD BE ))LOL ,,,, IM an advid fan of anything pedal related,,,thanks again ( I also just subscribed to your yt channel )
Hello! Now with the release of the new MS50+, do you know/think the ZOOM effects manager hack will work between the original MS and the new MS+ effects? Cheers
I regret selling my Boss PS2, it was a long time ago, i can't remember if i sold it to buy a whammy or a rat, that I regret selling to buy a fulltone fat boost II, that I don't regret selling to but a pdf-2 that is now my always on pedal.
I wanted a Keeley Caverns for some time, and when I got it, I was very inspired cause it was one of my first pedal. But with time I realized something for of to me, and the more I played with the more I found it kinda "meh" in the end. Don't get me wrong, the pedal is awesome ! Just not exactly for me. And I had the oppurtunity to trade it with a EQD Avalanche Run, and now the AR is one of my fav pedal ever ! Also, another sad pedal story: I recently bought a compressor, and I found the Fairfield Circuitry Accountant for cheaper on the internet, so I wanted to try (since it has good reviews) but it makes my amp overdrive, and I just don't like the way it colours my sound. I still have it, but I'll probably change it for something like the Mooer Yellow Comp
I'm so happy I sold my Zoom MS-70 CDR. So little intuitive, so sterile sounding and so problematic in my rig! I bought an Hx Stomp instead. Way more money but WAY better and packed with features the Zoom could never offer.
I also bought an HX Stomp (XL) andnit finally does what I always wanted. The Zoom pedals are still great to discover what you want from a pedal according to sound types and functions.
I still loved my ZOOM MS50g that i changed the version to which i can use efx from zoom g1on,zoom b1on,zoom ms60b,zoom 70 cdr,..wow! Most if not all,in one..🤭👌
Thanks for the Video, i got just 1 Suggestion. Try the Digitech Ricochet its as small as the Pitchfork but Smoother Sounding and with more and Fun Functions. I got mine for 65€ on Ebay Kleinanzeigen.
@@berlinshoegazer The CHORDS mode is fully polyphonic and less glitchy, but has a SLIGHT bit more latency, so Tom Morello style killswitch effects are better suited for the CLASSIC mode, which retains the similar feel of the IV.
..i fully am with you !!.. in 10 years i have bought hella lot of pedals and ditched, sold, gave away ALL of them. !!

The MS-70 would scratch 90+% of any of my musical itches as a casual dabbler who listened to a lot of shoegaze music.
Love my Supernatural Reverb - the Plate setting is fantastic
Josh is a pedal maker so makes sense he collects them. Nice content man!
The Supernatural is, ironically, prized for its vintage-correct spring and plate settings. Tweaked to perfection by the one and only PGS/Reverb Andy.
Definitily. It's all about creativity and what you do with the stuff you have. I'll check out his band.
@@jackcrook4435 Lowtide is f**king great,. I also like their second album...
Yes, it absolutely is...! I really like it as well.. The Julia single was unreal as well. I just thought the first ones were a good place to start for someone who hadn’t heard
@@jackcrook4435 Ha! just picked up the first EP from band camp...
Nice vid again!
i remember being undecisive on my first reverb. i was between the supernatural and the RV7. because and it's funny that you mentioned the longdecay 'cause it was also one of my requirements. in the end I ended up going for the RV7, for including the reverse and the gated reverb for glide/spooky weird tone
i still have it and i never regret having decided on that one. although in the future i would like to acquire the supernatural too. i currently use the RV7 in gated mode and combine it exactly with particle reverb from ms50g to give longspace reverse + shimmer effect with my squier jaguar.
i find it funny and great at the same time that you choose exactly the same thing that interests me. it always inspires me and i notice new details, such as the difference between the gated of the digiverb and the hardwire, because i had not noticed that "gated" sound... now i feel like i need it urgently haha
i do not have the digiverb but i have tried it and had the same appreciation only with the difference on the reverse reverb that the oscillation was softer on the digiverb than on the RV-7.
a big greeting kenneth. i follow your channel since a lot and had never left a comment on your channel, so it's my first :}
(i'm pretty bad at talking and commenting, but when i do i express a lot haha)
P.S:
supernatural reverb = cocteau twins
hardwire RV-7 = mbv
Hey man, thank you so much for leaving a comment. Great to hear you having the same opinion on these things. Sometimes I ask myself if the things I'm sharing are just super subjective. :) omce you get a Supernatural - hold on to it. It will be very valuable. :D
I love using my walrus slo and have just started messing around with a keeley realizer. Some has probably already said my the EHX Canyon is pretty solid man.
Dude you read my mind, I was considering buying an ibanez for shoegaze now I see you playing it. Sounds awesome.
It works amazingly great!!!
Vox delay lab is pretty great. Very underrated. Traded a dl4 for one about 5 or 6 years ago and that was a good trade haha
Good topic, Kenneth - you haven’t lost any Shoegazer cred 👍 I ditched my Whammy also for the power supply reason. I DO want to GET a 70CDR!
For me I think that Zoom and the presets people have shared will do the job. I am looking at the HX Stomp and I cant justify $700. I'd also like an M5 only for the particle verb - but guess what? The Zoom MS has a copy of it. Loving your videos!
The Flashback II seems cool, if you have the chance to try it maybe you can get nice delays from it!
Never sell an effect. Unless you need food. You'll want them and they wont be there
😄
Ever tried a deep fried HM-2? Delicious... 😋
Wise advice man! 🤘
How true.
I can say this is true
if line6 added a reverse reverb to the hx stomp it would be a real contender for best all in one solution, ive been bugging them to do it for a while now not sure if it's grabbed any of their engineers attention
But they added a reverse delay called the reverse delay.
Thank you!
It will be a cult classic in less than 5 years mark my words
I love the CDR. It’s totally different from other pedals. There’s something a bit low-fi about it sometimes... but it has vibe for miles. It’s inspiring because it’s not the same as everyone else.. and you can quickly try out many options!
same here, i love the fact theres an effect editor software that lets you load a bunch of effects from the other pedal series.
@@somnaut the nasty sample rate stuff it has going on with some of the reverbs is *chefs kiss*
i bought an electro harmonix ripped speaker fuzz. it is good on guitar, but the behringer super fuzz sounds good on bass and guitar (and costs less). I am keeping it for now just because it can do a glitchy low battery sound that i like
When you played the lead part of Trauma I got too excited
I just Bought a Zoom MS70CDR and I'm Loving it!!!
Thx for sharing, Michael.
I also had a polara, but sold it to but the walrus audio descent, because I really wanted presets, and I'm really happy with it!
I sold the Cathedral reverb, The Memory Man with Hazzari, Line 6 M13, Hardwire RV7 Reverb.
have you heard of the nux time core deluxe? it's a really cheap (around 60 usd) stereo delay pedal with a ton of really rad features. tap tempo, reverse delay, preset saving, a weird glitchy looper thing. i think it would be up your alley!
Thank you for this very informative comment. So many true words. Hope to find a MS100BT some day.
Actually, you can buy any of 'm. The same man who made this video made a video about the ability to "crack" these. See:
ruclips.net/video/Ul-BYkV3PSk/видео.html&ab_channel=SHOEGAZER
i just bought the oceans 12 from ehx. the reverse and shimmer settings are awesome, and there's a ton of versatility. it's a bit smaller than a memory man, so it takes up a bit more space than a regular pedal, and i also have to use an external power supply due to its power consumption, but that isn't so much of a problem for me. might be worth looking into though. also thanks for the videos and pedal recommendations, you've helped me discover a lot of my favorite pedals :)
Oceans 12, excellent pedal.
I agree with the Vox Delaylab, I really like it but it's heavy that's why I sold it.
Digitech Timebender is G.O.A.T.
the joyo aquarius is my must use delay, its very cheap for a pedal that does as much as it does.
It's really cool yea
Btw I got the digi tech hot rod for it’s fuzz feature that I saw on one of your videos. It’s An amazing pedal...another keeper...so thanks!
Oh yeah. I couldn't sell it as it's so cheap and sounds so great.
The Timebender is the best pedal ever. It's a box full of joy and surprises. I'm glad I've got two of them.
I have one, and the only knock I have on it is the 800 mA power requirement. That's more than most power supplies can push, so I need a separate wall wart line just for it.
@@jaykemper My Timebenders are made in the USA. They require 1500 mA. As far as I know, the later ones were made in China and require 800 mA.
Timebender is so full of amazing features and sounds great. i will never sell mine and have considered getting a 2nd one .
still love my korg sdd 3000. it's got the same footprint as the vox, it's kinda big. also the line 6 M9 has a ton of good FX, it's old but so am I. also, in the closet is a yamaha magic stomp, some great FX on that as well
I have to admit, I sold my MS 70 CDR last week (along with a bunch of other stuff I don't use anymore).
SHOEGAZER But i own both the CDR & the GFI, and the Zoom is still great for weirder stuff! I still use both 😉
The canyon by EHX or the flash back might be an upgrade from the multistomp for delay.
Agreed, Loomer is pretty overrated, if only they sold the reverbs only (not in limited runs)
I definitely get that, the focus setting is the only verb I use on it, I’ve been messing with the reverse more (which is more of gated reverb) and I use a rams head muff clone with it
@@alien9422 they do sell the verb only as the Realizer. They do it in batches tho.
Your videos are fun & well-made. Also enjoy your personality & vibe. 🤘Keep your ears open & your heart kind, buddy!
Thank you so much for the kind words. Means a lot to me.
Sounds cool. I'll check these out. Thank you. :)
Thank you so much for your comment. Really helpful! I'll check the delay out.
love the channel dude, thanks for the info and music. peace from Norway.
Also Not to my taste and got replaced:
Sib Nick Nitro fuzz...replaced by Black Arts Tonework Pharoah Fuzz....then that replaced by Way Huge Fat Sandwich then...finally Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra.
Boss SD1 gone...became a Waza Blues Driver BD2... now Jhs Boss Angry Driver.
Jhs Ehx op Amp w/ It's the Great Smashing pumpkin/Charlie Brown eye mod (kidding)...gone
Replaced with Jhs Moscow Mule modded EHX Green Russian big muff.

Thank you so much for sharing your pedal experiences here, man. Really appreciate it. Greetings back from Berlin to you. 🙏
I love those Zoom Muti-Stomps! Best value out there! and the Hard-Wire pedals are keepers. I use the DL-8.
@@doledipp3rs238 I would say just do it lol I spent a few weeks with it after I decided I hated it and still hated it
@@gloryxkid it's not so much that i don't like it. it works great for making trails with other pedals and can do some cool stuff. it's just that i've got a ton of other pedals on my board and i'm not sure if it's worth the space. i was thinking about buying the echo dream 2 by DBA, so selling the afterneath would put a good dent in the cost for that
@@doledipp3rs238 I have the echo dream and it’s incredible! I use it for a delay and lo fi vibrato kind of sounf
I like gated fv-1 reverb
I started reusing my old Gen 1 Whammy pedal with my Bass rig. Some of my unused pedals I trade with my homie and we record synth stuff with’em.
DOD Rubberneck delay - Cheap and very good.
great video idea, happy owner of a dozen cool effects...always delighted, never sold one...idea for a delay... why not hungry robots, obne, mooer, dba minidelay??
Check out Digit/Beebo from Poly Effects. A modular pedal with almost unlimited possibilities for experimental signal chains - it could replace half a dozen of your current pedals (like a Multistomp on steroids).
Just uploaded a video about it. Thanks for the tip!
@@berlinshoegazer cool I’ll check it out.
Did you try the regular digitech whammy? I have the regular(not DT version) Whammy and I never had issues with power.
Thanks man. I always felt like it's pitch shifting stability is great but it's still larger that the Pitchfork so I still stuck with it.
Hi, where can we find your music? Looking forward to it!
Love my zoom pedal too. I chose it over some other ambient pedals to put on my board actually. Still learning how to save stuff tho lol
Julianna chorus……wanted to like it…..didn’t ……at all…… love chorus but it didn’t jive for me. Sold it and picked up a used strymon Ola…..LOVE IT!
You can hack any of those Zoom pedals to be any zoom pedal you want.
Pls ,could you make a video how to use extern midi switch for zoom ms- 70 CDR?
I put it on my list.
Try the Caline. Snakebite. I like it. Cheap too
thanks, you save my money. I was planning to buy a Zoom MS 70 cdr
The Zoom pedals are still great to discover what you want from a pedal according to sound types and functions.
mooer ocean machine, you should try it
I stopped using all my other pedals once I got an MS-50G!
I still loved my ZOOM MS50g that i changed the version to which i can use efx from zoom g1on,zoom b1on,zoom ms60b,zoom 70 cdr,..wow! Most if not all,in one..🤭👌
I know it’s an old video however do you use the Microcosm
Thanks for the Video, i got just 1 Suggestion. Try the Digitech Ricochet its as small as the Pitchfork but Smoother Sounding and with more and Fun Functions. I got mine for 65€ on Ebay Kleinanzeigen.
Hey, thanks for the tip. I have to check it out.
The Whammy V uses the standard 9v power supply, have you tried that one?
No, not yet. Thanks for the info. 🙏
@@berlinshoegazer The CHORDS mode is fully polyphonic and less glitchy, but has a SLIGHT bit more latency, so Tom Morello style killswitch effects are better suited for the CLASSIC mode, which retains the similar feel of the IV.
To comment on the Alesis and other discontinued "inexpensive" pedals.. They have become stupid expensive. Hope that would change at some point.
that first digitech sample sure sounds harsh
Very cool!
Man i wish i could find an ms50g, i wanted to buy it for christmas but i couldnt find it below 100 bucks.
