[Comment: I generally like driving pickup. I enjoy being higher up, because it gives you better visibility and I like the added power that most pickups have.
And you get both power and visibility with the Colorado. Acceleration is...nice. I certainly didn't feel like the fastest car on the road, but I also never felt like I had to wait for the Colorado to catch up with what I was asking it to do.
So, what's it like to actually drive this truck?
Handling is also nice, although I didn't feel completely stable around ever curve. The truck didn't slip or pull, nothing like that, I just didn't feel as stable as I'm used to. And that's probably because I've been driving a lot of sedans lately so I was anticipating a different feel going around long curves.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Long story short, the Colorado accelerates well and handles like you'd expect. All in all it a good ride.

You left out a couple of features. You can remove the cup holder lining. It's rubber and removable. Also great for cleaning. After removing it you can place larger bottles in the holder if you prefer. Secondly. Note to the left of the steering wheel is a slot in the dash. That is actually a built in card-reader. It can be used to read security cards for gate access to restriced areas when activated by your employer etc. I don't like the fact there is no lock for the fueling area. Also I'd prefer a gas cap since someone can put water or other chemicals in the tank since it's such "Easy access". I have this truck.
For those of you who are so concerned about comparing a Colorado to an F150, the idea was to show that this mid-sized truck's towing capacity was comparable to a full sized F150 , i.e. 5k - 8k for the F150 vs 7k for the Chevy; meaning the smaller truck has good towing capacity even if it is not full sized. I found the review of the Colorado to be very informative.
That is one of the best reviews I have ever seen, well done. It answered all my questions
Just got this truck. My first truck. Love it
That is not a standard water bottle. Definitely, over sized.
Great review!
I bought a used 2017 good thing I found some structural damages on it, the dealer did take it back , the two issues that I noticed the 1st couple of days was the BIG clunk when shifting from drive to reverse and also a rear whine in the axle. I did end up buying 2016 V6 crew cab Lt with 45,000 miles CERTIFIED no issues so far, I definitely bought the extended warranty. Love this truck
Beautiful truck! Would love to have one!
Thorough and beneficial review. Thank you for posting
Thanks Matthew!
This is the truck I'm working on getting. I already went in and sat down to talk about it, took it for a test drive, crunched some numbers on mileage plans & my intended down payment, they told me get my credit up to 700 or better and I'm golden. Can't wait to drive this home in a couple months.
I just got this exact truck. Came from.a '12 turbo beetle. Love the truck.
Did you get the truck?
Great review... I drive a 2018 Colorado LT and am very very impressed with it. I do not have all the USB ports in the back seat not the storage but unlikely I;d ever need them.
Ah..the F150 is Not really
In competition with the Colorado...one is Full size the other is midsize...
I can see the confusion though.
If the F150 and Silverado 1500 are full size. Then what is the F250+ and Silverado 2500 considered?
It's all Ford has to offer right now is what is meant. Ford does plan on a ranger again soon so that will compare when it arrives.
@@nickr3441 full size still just 3/4 ton or 1 ton
@@nickr3441 2500s and 3500s are referred to as "heavy duty" pickups
What exactly makes a full size vs a midsize?
Depending on configuration the Colorado can weigh more than the F150, engine size similar, tire size similar?
F150 is not fair competitor to the Colorado. Lol They’re a different class. The Colorado is a midsize truck. Competitors GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, and Nissan Frontier. The F150 is a full size truck. Competitors Chevy Silverado 1500, Dodge Ram 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra. In my opinion the GMC Canyon is the best midsize truck. The interior is just like the Colorado. But more luxurious.
NC Styles Also a properly equipped F150 can tow like 12,000 pounds or something like that
Actually, I just bought a Colorado LT. Once you add leather with the luxury package, and click on the Bose upgrade and add the safety package you basically have the same luxurious interior as the Canyon's SLT. There is the one exception. The Denali. In that it appears to have a higher grade perforated leather seats and a few wood simulated pieces. The big difference is the 20" wheels on that. Except for the Denali I don't see any real differences in trim. In fact, Chevy's Z71 and fully loaded LT's look better imo. But in the case of the SLT canyon your going to pay a few thousand more then a loaded out Z71/LT chevy and basically get the same truck.
I love mine.
Love the Colorado
I have a 2015 v6 z71, so far is been reliable. No issues no complains, when in cruise control I get 25-32 driving on the freeway. when not in cruise control I get 18-24 depends on your foot..Mods I did a leveling kit front only, bigger tires. Nothing bad to say...2015 did not came with a back window..would of been nice..i do recommend..i also tested the Toyota, because I am 6' I felt like I had more room on the Colorado. Nissan didn't liked..Ford ranger wasn't out yet..didn't needed a big truck..
instinct022 how much miles do you have now?
I own one and I really like it!
Those Colorados are nice trucks. So are the GMC Canyons. I'm excited to check out the new Ford Ranger, but its lack of powertrain options are disappointing.
Your review was really good I had a 2004 Chevy Colorado myself it was the first year they came on with them it was a extended cab red beast but the engine was very different it had a 3.5 inline 5 cylinder engine and only could make 220 horse power it came out when gas prices started going up back then gm said the engine could give you the power of a six cylinder but the fuel Efficiency of a four cylinder the main problem of the engine was it Vibrated really bad better than that a good truck😁
Thanks!
Love mine
is LT 4WD good enough to drive in snow (mid-west region) or Z71 is better option?
I hate mine! I didn’t get the leather seats and maybe I should have. I find the seats incredibly uncomfortable. It’s also ridiculous for a city car. I bought it because it got such great reviews but I’m going to get rid of it ASAP. Thanks for your reviews though. It’s great to have such a thorough tour!
great vehicle.. I got the 2018.
Nice! Congratulations!
I've purchased mine in 2016 with 2 miles on it. A black one like this one, w/leather interior, bose system. Didn't it had any issues until recently, FYI to everyone .. When I driving somewhere and shifted to "P" (parking) and turn the switch key off - Well the switch doesn't turn all the way off, to pull out the key, gets stock. For the switch to release the key like any other normal vehicle. What I end up doing is to turn the switch key on position, but don't start the engine. Then I press the brake-pedal, move up / down the shift-handle between "P" - "D" and back to "P" (parking). At that point I've turn the switch key to off and the key is released to me. ..What I think is that the computer doesn't register fast enough that I have shifted the truck to "P" (parking), and that is why the switch key doesn't turn to off to release the key. Anyways, other than that everything is great. I need to take it to the dealership before my warranty expires and hopefully this issue is cover/fixed. So far as of now Jan/2019 the millage is at 29k.
Jess Dallas how much miles do you have now?
What’s a good price on something like this they are telling me about 30,000 but I think I can talk them down since it’s v6 mid size pick up
interesting the volume rockers are 4" away from the actual volume knob
Does anyone know if Chevy fixed the torque converter problems?
Capless fuel filling. Nice!
Ford had capless filling since the model T
Nutjob Joe really?
no lock, right?
I like your reviews. Just an avg person's impression not a journalist who races Ferrari's on the weekend.
What’s the size difference between a 22’ ford ranger and a 22’ Colorado LT
I like these trucks, but those prices! I guess I'm just getting old. My first 1/2 ton truck had power everything back when power-anything was a luxury item. It was $14,700 OTD ($26k in today's money). The idea of forking over $26,500+TTL for a "baby" truck gives me heartburn.
I like the Colorado alot & GMC! Waiting on new Ranger release in Jan & I'm placing my order. Colorado or Ranger! No taco considered here.
Definitely, last thing you would want to consider is the better product built in the country you live containing the highest percentage of components made in the country you live.
@@fcknorris1069 low seating position is a big reason for not considering Taco, not the reasons you stated.
@@ThisGuyRides eh. Sounds like a dumbass reason to me.
The taco is slow and hasn't changed in forever and is not comfortable and not perfect
Bought a 17 LT. nothing but problems. Been through two torque converters, three re-programs and scheduled to go in again for more transmission issues. The infotainment is also very glitchy when transitioning between devices.
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting me know, hopefully things improve.
What was your transmission doing to caused you to take it in? I am having issues with my 18 Colorado also.
Sudden jerking between 1-2 gears. Very slow to change between gears, almost like someone stepped on a clutch too long.
that's a nice truck. looking at either this or Toyota Tacoma for my next vehicle.
I've never driven the Tacoma. How does it compare to the Colorado in your opinion?
The tacoma is a pile. On the third generation they went to a new 3.5 V6 and six speed. The transmission is a hot mess. Does a ton of "gear searching" and is a dog. 0-60 takes well over 9 seconds. You have to use ECT mode to tow anything. Gas mileage is worst in the segment. Or right down there with the 14 year old Frontier with the 4.0 V6. But at least Nissan's 4.0 litre is not underpowered. I'd take that over a tacoma. Test drove the Tacoma twice because I really wanted to like it. And they look pretty good. But until they refresh that mess of a transmission I'd stay away. Or possible find one with the 6 speed manual which I've heard works pretty well and they still offer it. Problem being they are very rare and almost impossible to test drive one. I never could find one so I bought a colorado which drives 100 percent better. 8 speed transmission is years ahead of toy.
I test drove the colorado and the taco, the colorado ran a little better that the taco but I bought the taco for the following reasons:
1. The colorado in my area is obscenely overpriced. Almost 10k more than the taco.
2. Reliability, lets face it, the Toyota’s are just more reliable
3. For 10k less the taco still has features that the colorado the dealer priced for me didn’t have, gps, wireless charger, electric rear window, adaptive cruise control, lane departure, cubbies in the bed, a/c plug in the bed, tail gate assist, composite bed, adjustable tie down system.
And for the record, the tacos are a little tight when new and need to be broken in. I live in an area with varied terrain and after about 500 miles of break in my taco was shifting great, accelerates very well, and only down shifts when I want to pass or go up a hill. I definitely made the right choice, I’m loving my taco.
@@stevenm4743 which one did you buy? Sr5 or trd(sport or offroad) or pro? Also did you get 4wd and how much did you pay??
random noob I got the TRD Sport 4x4 and paid $39,500 for it. Like I mentioned, the Colorado is a little quicker than the Taco but you can’t beat Toyota reliability. And bang for the buck, at least in my area, the taco wins hands down.
Go back to giving them Stars. I would give this one 4 Stars...****
Just bought a GMC Canyon. Silver with coco dune interior. Better looking than the chevy.Had the dealer give the truck a 2 inch leveling kit. Looks a lot better.Cost me $600.
Congratulations! And I gotta be honest, I thought the Canyon and the Colorado were basically the same truck. Does it look different?
@@100RentalCars They look different. Grill, sheet metal.
@@100RentalCars A fully loaded Z71 or LT Colorado is basically the same thing as a Canyon SLT. Different grill/wheels but not any better. Trim is just a matter of preference. I just bought a loaded out LT crew cab Colorado with luxury package/leather/bose stereo with 3" off road steps, etc.. and IMO looks better then the Canyon. Interior is essentially the same but the GMC will still cost a few thousand more. The one exception is the Denali. With that you get monster 20" wheels and perforated leather seats with some simulated wood pieces. Hardly worth the extra 4K if you ask me. Its like GM was just trying to figure out a way to pad up a GMC Canyon to the point of it being ridiculous.
It .........is ...........the.........exact..........same..........truck. even GM calls them the twins. And a lift ????? Sorry about your penis bruh.
True the f150 is a "full size" but with a short box and the 4 cylinder ecoboost engines they have now I would say it is an even comparison
Woa Woa there! The Colorado is a mis-sized truck, the other Thee on your list, a Tundra, F150 and Silverado are all full sized half ton trucks! To compare the Colorado, you need to compare to a Ranger, Tacoma, Frontier and Gladiator! Of which a Colorado Diesel is tops at 7,600! Plus with the gas V6, has at least 30 more hp that the nearest mid-sized truck!
NO NO NO this is a small truck classable to a ford ranger, gmc canyon. Do not and I mean do not compare to a Ford F-150 ugh
Yeah, but for those of us deciding on buying either a full size or small truck, those are the comparisons we look for.
Those aren't sport shifters, that's for keeping in gear while towing.
my 2018 off road @
Lol this is my EXACT truck. Package, trim, color, etc.
Nice choice!
This is a common configuration. Dealers order a ton of these. Once in awhile they may order the Bose upgrade. Even rarer is when they order one with the luxury chrome package which is required if you want leather seats. If you order all three, bose, luxury package, and leather options then good like finding it. I wanted that and also the safety package which gives lane departure warning, back up warning and forward collision alert. You guessed it, I'm having to have it built.
The F150 is not a competitor to the Colorado.
How do you not know what a short box truck is? Its literally a shorter box. Its in the name.
My 2018 Colorado radio(bose system) is the biggest POS. If I would have known the apple car play had to be connected with a cable I would have never bought that truck. 3 out of 4 times it doesn't work. Im so pissed off. I called the dealer and there is no updates, and I called onstar and they said buy a new cable. I did and it still doesn't work.
you wouldnt buy a truck because of apple car play? stick to a hyundai elantra
Hi you forgot to add that Chevy Colorado comes with all bells and whistles +10 to 20 problems 80% if not all Chevy Colorado’s come with torque converter/transmission issues feel free to check out my channel to check out all the issues with my 2017 Chevy Colorado Z71
Pretty fancy for an Isuzu.
Yeah all us Truck Guys and Gals know the comparing a F150 to a Colorado is like comparing apples to oranges.
32 000 dollars?! You have no idea how cheap that is. In my country a car like that would cost at least 100 000.
For real? Where you are living these days?
@@100RentalCars I might have exaggerated the price a bit, but for the Colorado its 75 000 dollar, and Silverado 100 000 dollar. I live in Norway, and the high price is all due to taxes. People still buy the cars though, and American brands are quite popular.
F150 is not the competitor, a Ford ranger would be
Nice fuckin truck my brotha ...
BUT your shorts are tooooo DAM TIGHT, 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can't believe you wore those,,,
I can't believe you came out the house like that😂😂😂😂😂
DONT EVER WEAR THOSE AGAIN!!!!!!
This or ford 2.7?
Ford.
THIS, but in WT extended cab trim. Cheaper than an LT and has a far superior power to weight ratio. Test drive a Ranger like I did and you will quickly notice how god awful they handle compared to the Colorado. Plus, the 3.6 liter V6 in the chevy has a better top end than the Ford.
I guess you really don’t know trucks ! F 150 is full size brother your in a mid size truck ford ranger would be a competitor !
You're right, my truck knowledge is pretty bad. I am trying to work on it though. And thanks for the correction, I haven't driven a Ford Ranger, but I'll try and get one so I can do a proper comparison. Cheers!
Please buy me a Colorado
Amazes me how vehicles in this day and age can refuse to give us basic features, specially for the cost. No pockets on the back of the seats? Really? Chevy cant afford spending $5 to put those in?? Tiny cup holders in the front. That water bottle was massive, I don't know why he says "standard" size water bottle, but those cup holders are shallow as hell. Again with the massive shifter which does NOTHING. Shifters are outdated and do not actually "shift" the gears, they are digital and not mechanically attached to anything. Chevy could easy take that out and give decent cup holders in that space. The volume paddles are idiotic, just add a little extra space on the front of the steering wheel for more buttons, geeze its not that hard. Gauges behind the wheel look like they are from 1999, such a tiny viewing area for such a large vehicle. I really don't know why the companies don't offer better products for the price since they don't really cost the company any more to be engineered better. These are all just design decision with no actual overhead cost involved.
crappy headlights , poor at best iihs test.. also the worst full size pickup headlights are the ford f150, yes folks look it up , headlight rating 2018 (poor).
I having a Colorado LT build but I added the Luxury/chrome package which gives you the projector HID headlights. The Z71 And Zr2 also come standard with projectors. Thing about Chevy is you can trim it out anyway you want. You get what you pay for. Colorado's start at around 21K if not less.
For the cost of the truck, I find the interior horrible.
31,900....lmao....
why don't Lift them up so they look like a 4wheel drive??? they look like crap. They look like 2 wheel drive.
I just got this truck last week. Looking at it I think they need fender flares. Not the big rivet style, stock GM. More aggressive tires would help, but I don't mind these since I drive highway.
junk trans
Lol at onstar but no auto dimming and water bottle not fitting. Chevy is such junk
People still buying gm products ??? Weird
Number one problem is it's ugly
Don't buy “chinese made” GM better get the Tacoma or the new ranger
David G Mine says made in Wentzville, MO USA.
GM= government motors. As in every items is farmed out to the lowest bidder. Crap
let go, man. they are a publicly traded company just like Ford. let it go. Time has moved on. Gold isn't money any longer!
