@@stevelouie5928 oh totally. It’s not even close. To be fair this is a huge box and the model 3 is a sleek sedan but yeah they really needed to aim for 300 miles range.
The original vw bus had 36 hp power plant. This has ten times as much power. Too bad it’s so slow to market. Price is important as it was a vital aspect of the original.
Yeah. I feel like the affordability aspect is completely out the window and basically marketed as a nostalgia product for wealthier individuals that remember that era.
How can I not be excited about it? 250-260mile range is garbage for a vehicle I would love and would want to road-trip in. Thing needs to be a PHEV 80-100mile ev range and a 3 cylinder gas engine ”range extender” to be a legit US road-trip machine.
I would love to buy one of these for family road trips, but with an expected sub-300 mile range (and I suspect the real-world number will be significantly less), it's just not in the cards. Hope I'm wrong, but I feel like folks who jump on buying these right out of the gate are setting themselves up for headaches if they think it will be a practical vehicle for families.
Something that non-EV owners don’t tend to realize is that pure range numbers aren’t really all that important with EVs for long trips. What’s more important is charging speed and miles per kW efficiency. Charging speed is something where this EV isn’t quite up to spec with faster charging platforms like Hyundai, but at the same time I think it’s reasonable enough. When you road trip an EV you’re not charging to 100% battery except at the beginning at home, so the only place your car’s range affects your trip time is the time between your home and the first charge. The longer the trip, the less your car’s range capability matters, because having a larger battery just means more time spent at DC fast charging stations., On a road trip you’re more likely to be keeping the battery between 20 and 80% to maximize charge speed. Don’t forget that 200 miles is 3 hours at 65 mph. So really, it’s a question of whether you’re the type of driver who is going to want 30 minutes break every 3 hours or if you’re the type to power through. Also, European carmakers tend to state range conservatively compared to Tesla who overstates their range (just check out Edmunds’ rankings).
It feels like ages because it has been ages. I think this is going to be a hit as long as they get the pricing right. Not saying that’s any kind great insight. I think it looks awesome and is going to offer people a seriously cool minivan with minivan practicalities. They got the specs right with range and horsepower on both the AWD and the FWD/RWD (?). I’m a fan of knobs and buttons so the biggest drawback in the design for me is the infotainment system and the steering wheel controls. These are better than what they put in the ID4 I expect, but to me they reinvented the wheel by making it square. So this will have its own niche in the market and I don’t think they’ll be able to make enough of them. I mean, unless, you know, once again… the price.
My family has needed a new family vehicle for 2-4 years. We have put it off because of Covid, inflated prices, pent up demand, etc. We finally narrowed it down to a Toyota Sienna, R1S or this thing. We have been waiting and waiting... I think we order one of the three in the next 6 months and we honestly need the vehicle before fall 2025. We might be forced to order the Toyota or R1S soon and stop considering this.
"Finally ready for sale" Er, well maybe not (no sign of it soon to be in any show room) Maybe next year. This is sort of like when your state announces that a new bridge is soon to be built in your county, then they may start construction next year...or the next year...
I really want to love this new edition VW bus. I do. That said, I know that I'm clinging to the wonderful simplicity of the original and that technology is going to FUBAR the entire vehicle from bumper to bumper.
@@piercecosmoyeah, this isn’t a Cybertruck where they decided to run all the electronics on one fiberoptic cable that bricks the entire vehicle when a module goes out. This is going to be built by normal legacy engineers and will be far more reliable.
Businesses have been asking for a reasonably priced bare-bones cargovan like this could be if everything was ripped out: no finishes, interior body panels, seats or radio. There's no shortage of customers. Manufacturers are hypnotized by luxury market margins. They whine that there's fewer sales but they don't want to make to scale what people really want. The first one to make a boxy minivan will corner the market. It's like they are little boys who don't want to grow up.
I’m glad it’s supposedly ready for 2025. They said 2026 before, which is when cars will be flying for that price point. Also, where is the Hippie version? What is this pro crap?
I'm a huge fan of VW. That being said...WTF is VW doing the interior is complete garbage. VW this looks like a soccer mom's, trashed out bottom trim mini-van. Get ride of the mini-van slider. French door it or gull wing it. Put hard wood style floors and swivel front seats. Rear fold down bench seats a table maybe a refrigerated water cooler. This is a joke, coming from someone who loves there VW Atlas.
Problems: 1. Not NACS. 2. Under 300 miles is insufficient range. This will be a massive flop if these two critical points aren’t corrected before launch.

Worst marketing department in history.

I cannot wait to pick one of these up 1-2 years after it debuts for 30% off. This would be the perfect car for my wife, dogs and motorcycles.
If they can keep the price around 50k, it will be a hot seller. 300 range is more than enough for around town driving.
50k is to much. It's total junk.

Knowing VW's reputation, they are probably having endless software issues.
by the time they get any to dealers/customers it will be ready for the first refresh. the VW UI has not been well reviewed to date.

Are there any vw buses for sale that use gas?
Hi, was this video shot @ The Portuguese Bend Beach Club in Rancho PV?
Not sure, it's VW-supplied B-Roll...
They don't sell well in Europe. Very expensive and poor battery management, resulting in a short range. Massive depreciation.
Too bad they couldn’t add a trunk space in the front
They just bought Rivian. Wanted the software, I read.
Might have something to do with it the long wait.
Wow charging 170kw is not ideal
Short wheelbase version in Canada please.
I'm a bit disappointed in the range. It's too bad they're not pushing 400 miles... Otherwise I would be purchasing it as soon as it was out.

It doesn’t look anything like the concept and it’s already out of date technology. Too little too late, may as well not offer it and just start over.
