I really love the whale-like sounds being played in parts of the song; makes me think there might be a few Falathrim musicians in the background, or that this might be playing all the way in Alquelonde in the West with the Falmari singing about the hardships of their distant kin, since Gil-Galad is related to Olwe after all.
Why would the Falmari sing of the Noldor? So many were put to the sword by them at Alqualonde; then their ships were stolen by them and later burned. Olwe likely hates the Noldor with a passion and would permit no song sung of his enemies and betrayers.

Gil Galad died due to the heat of Sauron hands according to the scroll written by Isildur.
He's not highest king over all elven race. He's high king of the Noldorin elves. The title of High King of the Elves is exclusively used for Ingwe, king of the Vanyar.

The reason Peter Jackson did not focus on Gil-Galad is probably because he is not relevant to the Lord of the Rings. He was only related to the Lord of the Rings because: 1. I feel so uneducated reading these comments o_o Like I know Gil-Galad was a Ring-Bearer, and he helped out on the Silmarillion, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. Tolkien writes his stories like he's researching an ancient culture, making note of every conceivable detail that people might not even care about. (i.e. the mentions of Gondolin and whatnot in the Hobbit, like how is the casual reader supposed to know, remember, or care about that?) Eh, I'll just keep diving into the ridiculousness that is the family tree of every important Elf or Man in the books ever.
***** The depth of Tolkien's world and the details are ridiculous. I know by heart the House of Finwe and some major family relationships but that's about it. I don't think I'll learn the family trees of the Men and Numenoreans.
Heather Turner well .. Finarfin wasnt a normal Elf-King or Elf in generell. He always ruled in Tirion far away from Middle-Earth. Yet he once made a move against Morgoth in the War of Wrath, which lead to Morgoths bannishment. He might still rule in Tirion, since elves are immortal and he never died in combat (Demi God ye know)
Gil Galad a Brave ElfenKing !!!! Incredible Story with his Glowing Silver Armor and his Death facing a huuge Monster in Battle he died in Honor and Brave !!!!!
It seems odd to write this here but I'll do it anyway. I'm by no means well-read in Tolkien's works. Although, I am inspired by the very same things which inspired him to create what he did. I'm creating my own work with the hope that I can make something as deep, rich, wonderful, and interesting as Tolkien did. I want to make an epic world filled with history, culture, and language. Although, strangely enough, I wouldn't say I was inspired by Tolkien specifically to do this. I suppose I've always had a love for this sort of thing and have only just recently learned how to act it out in the real world, rather than just in my head.
+Mirza Bajrektarević One of the reasons the song is short is that at the time with Anois, who's music this is, if a song was longer than 4 minutes, it more or less had to be shortened ;)
They've ruined him in the show... he's weak, deceitful... I wouldn't be surprised if one between him and Celebrimbor is actually Sauron in the series... So sad.
None of the images make evident the visual feature of Gil-Galad most famed from his description by Tolkien - the shining silvery helm and shield. Most show him with a spare anonymous shield from a movie costume-repository...
Aargh!! When you are looking from some more information from Gil-Galad, then you find a song and the song says 'Gil-Galad was an elven king' but everyone know that already!!!
The armour and clothing of the guy who had literally 10s. of the screen time in LotR looks 10x better than everything in rings of power wrome Wokazon xD
Morgoth isn't dead, though. He's a Vala. I'm not sure that he can truly die as in cease to exist. I do know his feet were cut from beneath him, his crown made a collar, and was chained to Angainor. The Valar and Maiar cast him through the Door Of Night, beyond the Walls of the Worlds and into the Timeless Void until Dagor Dagorath (the end of the world), yet his influence still lingers. Elrond's father, Eärendil, actually keeps guard to make sure he doesn't escape until the proper time.
Gil Galad was an elven king, of him the harpers sadly sing. The last who's realm was fair and free, between the mountains and the sea. +Ken Havens If you go and read the book, *darling*, you'll see that it is described as a song. Or a 'Lay', which has always been a term for a song that told a story, but was not a balled. Chapter 11, A Knife in the Dark, should you wish to fact check.

Many of the scenes in the video can't be found in the movies. I understand these scenes were filmed at the same time as the Fellowship of the Ring. Anyway, my question is: Where did you get access to the scenes from? Because I remember many, many years ago I had some LOTR encyclopedia that was beautifully illustrated with all these exclusive scenes, but I don't have it any more and can't remember its name!
Gil Galad died at the battle of the daggerlands where he as king of the Noldor forged an allaince with the dunadain and was killed by souron who was the luitenent to Morgoth, son of Iluvater
I meant in Middle-Earth, i said over all the elves, so as not to confuse, considering you have Lady Galadriel and King Thranduil who also lived in his time.
Quite possibly. Scholars are unsure exactly where the Doors of Night dumped Morgoth into the Timeless Void... or whether or not it's an alternate universe due to it being 'Beyond the Walls of the Worlds'... I'm prone to say he's somewhere in our universe unexplored but until we get there, we'll never know!

It was tough being an Elf in those days. Only stubbornness kept them in Middle Earth, it was kind of ruined by the malice of demons.
How would Maglor think when he listened this song?
+蘇宇謙 I doubt he would have any reflections on it. Probably self absorbed while wandering Middle Earth in shame and despair.
He'd probably think "Neat, I need to learn that song. Who's this Gil-galad fellow anyway?"
DOnt know how they picked the new actor for the TV show currently running on Amazon Prime, but he looks excaclty the same.
😢😣beautiful 💓!But so sad
Gil-Galad is my second favourite elf-king, after Arafinwë. Wow, I really love elves. I think I need to lie down.
Heather Turner well .. Finarfin wasnt a normal Elf-King or Elf in generell. He always ruled in Tirion far away from Middle-Earth. Yet he once made a move against Morgoth in the War of Wrath, which lead to Morgoths bannishment. He might still rule in Tirion, since elves are immortal and he never died in combat (Demi God ye know)
This is my favourite rendition of the song
one of the most beautiful song ever
Gil Galad a Brave ElfenKing !!!! Incredible Story with his Glowing Silver Armor and his Death facing a huuge Monster in Battle he died in Honor and Brave !!!!!
If someone wants to know what version of my fall created by humans is the best - well this one
Hey Gil-Galad who is your father
Sam did a great job of singing this song but dang this is just beautiful.
Gil-Galad - the last king!
This is the best version..great female vocal..i would like to know who she is
It seems odd to write this here but I'll do it anyway.
Elves are immortal but fragile beings they easily die upon receiving a wound or two.
it is a very beautiful song
Beautiful
One of my favourite songs from LotR, really great, shame he had to die :(
Mark Ferguson (Gil-galad) also played roles in Hercules and Xena episodes. And he played Prometheus in "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys".
Gil-Galad was a professional badass
In a world full of horrible ways to die, Gil-Galad has one of the most gruesome ends.
Why is this song so short? It's a great song, and I wanted to hear more of it.
+Mirza Bajrektarević
One of the reasons the song is short is that at the time with Anois, who's music this is, if a song was longer than 4 minutes, it more or less had to be shortened ;)
It's a song Sam sings during The Fellowship of the Ring, he couldn't remember the rest of the song and so we didn't hear all of it.
Tolkien didn't write more, but you can look forward to the 20 minutes version of Clamavi De Profundis...
Beautiful and amazing, Downloading now!
Gil Galad ❤
''Gil-galad was an Elven-king. Of him Jeff Bezos sadly sing''
They've ruined him in the show... he's weak, deceitful... I wouldn't be surprised if one between him and Celebrimbor is actually Sauron in the series... So sad.
Truly enchanting! I believe that The Good Profesor would approve!
I really like this version ! beautiful !!
could you make a 1 hour version of this song please
None of the images make evident the visual feature of Gil-Galad most famed from his description by Tolkien - the shining silvery helm and shield. Most show him with a spare anonymous shield from a movie costume-repository...
Aargh!! When you are looking from some more information from Gil-Galad, then you find a song and the song says 'Gil-Galad was an elven king' but everyone know that already!!!
The armour and clothing of the guy who had literally 10s. of the screen time in LotR looks 10x better than everything in rings of power wrome Wokazon xD
Musica mais linda. não há.
Sverge, you're an artist! Another top notch vid of Tolkien's Lore. Le-hannon, mellon nin. :)
There are a lot of Tolkien songs that have been done by fans over the decades, so I reckon this is one of those.
What a masterpiece
Beautiful!
Very well done, and beautiful.
There needs to be more on this legend
Lesson learnt: Don’t run away kid
Morgoth isn't dead, though. He's a Vala. I'm not sure that he can truly die as in cease to exist. I do know his feet were cut from beneath him, his crown made a collar, and was chained to Angainor. The Valar and Maiar cast him through the Door Of Night, beyond the Walls of the Worlds and into the Timeless Void until Dagor Dagorath (the end of the world), yet his influence still lingers. Elrond's father, Eärendil, actually keeps guard to make sure he doesn't escape until the proper time.
Only elf whose kingdom stands for ages
Gil Galad was an elven king, of him the harpers sadly sing.
The last who's realm was fair and free, between the mountains and the sea.
His sword was long his lance was keen, his shining helm afar was seen.
The boundless stars of heavens field were mirrored in his silver shield.
But long ago he rode away, and where he dwells now none can say.
For into darkness fell his star in mordor where the shadows are.
Or close on that :)
Damn, imagine if they showed sauron burning Gil galad in the movie opening.
Very underused in the movie ..should have shown his
R- rated death🙁
This is not a song per se, but a poem set to some music.
+Ken Havens If you go and read the book, *darling*, you'll see that it is described as a song. Or a 'Lay', which has always been a term for a song that told a story, but was not a balled. Chapter 11, A Knife in the Dark, should you wish to fact check.
Well, Samwise sung it.
I would have loved to have seen a Gil-Galad fighting Sauron scene. Maybe someday, someone will make this movie right.
Morgoth! Have you been disliking Gil-Galad videos again?
Luthien, you never forget that name
Hermoso.
Hey @Sverge83, do you have a CD of this? I need an uncompressed version of this... happy to compensate you and the artist but I can's find the CD or hi-res purchase anywhere online... Please help, I love this song.
Fingolfin, his shining armour was saw in all the middle earth, his sword was long and silver his shield, his eyes were blue and his hair was made of gold, white was his horse, a long time ago, who no one remembers, he marched to the darkness to fall.
Five orcs now: Grishnákh, Snaga, Uglúk, Mauhúr and Gorbag.
I would be forever grateful to whoever tells me where i can download this song or cd that includes this song, or even buy it.
One of my fav elves ever.
a masterpiece!
a-a-amazing!
Gil Galad died at the battle of the daggerlands where he as king of the Noldor forged an allaince with the dunadain and
was killed by souron who was the luitenent to Morgoth, son of Iluvater
Oh poor Noldor 😔
Когда хотела увидеть прекрасноликого владыку эльфов, а тебе показали толстомордого дядечку который весь в мыслях о кредитах (
I meant in Middle-Earth, i said over all the elves, so as not to confuse, considering you have Lady Galadriel and King Thranduil who also lived in his time.
where are those pictures from guys?
Quite possibly. Scholars are unsure exactly where the Doors of Night dumped Morgoth into the Timeless Void... or whether or not it's an alternate universe due to it being 'Beyond the Walls of the Worlds'... I'm prone to say he's somewhere in our universe unexplored but until we get there, we'll never know!
Where are these frames from ? a movie or something i would like to see it ;D ?
yeah, feanor was a real jerk.
(he was grandson of fingolfin or finarfin)
@@dioio8415 Fingolfin! That side is more canon than Finarfin side
Six now. How unfortunate of them to be born that way.
