This song was the soundtrack to me finding back my girl friend after being separated for 23 years. Me German, she French (both 19) met in Greece back in 1978 , went on to India on the Hippie trail,then a year later back to Europe , working together in France to earn some money to get back on the road. Unfortunately our romance ended just before we were set to return to India. She went on to Peru, I ended up in Thailand. Fast forward some 23 years found me as a single Dad raising three kids after my wife had left us, when my mom showed up with some very old, faded photos she found in the attic from when we were in India. It was then that I dediced to go on the search for my girlfriend from yesteryear, curious to find out if she was still alive. This took me some weeks, but in the end I found her address in the South of France. I sent a letter, a rose and a tape with all the music we both loved back then, but after almost 6 weeks of no reply I concluded she was married, probably with kids and chose not to reply. After almost 2 months a letter from France arrived in my mail box, saying how overjoyed she was about news from me after all this time! She was a single mom and was living with her daughter in the South of France. She wanted to know if I could visit her. Needless to say that I felt like a million bucks and this song served as the background music in the weeks to come before I finally made my way to France. The rest of the story is the material Hollywood movies are made of...So today, whenever I hear " The Game of Love" , it immediately transports me back to the euphoric spring of 2003.

That's heart warming: I was best man at my best mates wedding 3 years back to a girl he met and wooed in 1978, then parted with the year after. 1978 coincidentally the year he and I (a big fan!) went to see Santana in London.
From the 2002 album, Shaman", a song of conflicted love, this song rose to Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100's.
Originally recorded with Tina Turner, the record company went with the youthful Michelle's version, which won a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with vocals.

I feel it’s because Michelle had a good voice but wasn’t a great singer as seen from the live performances where she isn’t lip syncing.

Now, look, I’m not one to criticise you all but where’s the credit to the superb songwriting of Greg Alexander in these comments? The man could write songs this good in his sleep and both Santana & Michelle rise to the quality superbly. What a great song and Greg’s second best song after You Get What You Give. Weirdly favourite moment is the drum roll in the middle of the great guitar solo

I loved this song the moment i heard it. I want to recommend this deep cut from Santana’s 2005 album All That I Am. The song is Just Feel Better feat. Steven Tyler. I only recently found this track when diving into Santana’s albums which weren’t big hits. I was actually able to buy several of his cd’s from his less popular years for $5 a piece.

Love Michelle Branch and her vocals were fabulous here. I respect Carlos Santana, but he is overrated. Same sound, same style, similar solos every time. He bores me. I do love this song, though.
