This was my 2nd time using the jab trick. I beat this game about 4 times that day. On the 3rd try I found this jab trick half way through. I played one more playthrough to see if I can beat it faster than without jabbing. My regular playthroughs where about an hour an 30 minutes. Most of the time I finish with over 9 lives regardless.
I usually lose a life or 2 on the wrestler guy.
What jab trick?
Sal sean I think he means where you just stand there and hit the button every 1 second instead of mashing it, they remain frozen and you can just keep punching them. we all learned this trick when we were kids. helps immensely
derek
Ah right, well that was just part of the game haha.
gocalibergaming Other People knew that trick? And there I thought me and my younger brother invented it :D We called it the taser-tap or the spasm spank.
L Lawliet I like to play the game by only head-butting everyone. It's fun for like 20 minutes. :)
30 years later, this game is still a beat’em up masterpiece
HOW 30 YEARS? amazing
This soundtrack should have won a Grammy! I was jamming the entire time! Especially the intro song! It felt like I was listening to Sade of Enigma! I will never forget The boss battle theme!
No doubt! The soundtrack is epic. That song on the first level is so sick! Such a classic beat em up.
I agree. Always liked the music
I'm 33, this game was a big part of my childhood.
You're 35 now
Me my mates used to play this game all the time and we are in our 40s now
41
28 now, will always remember this game!
I turned 36 on January 4 but I have a terrible past and I love this game.
Still blows my mind how Koshiro squeezed all this incredible sound out of that tiny 16bit sound chip way back in '92...man is a god.
He ripped off a lot of Euro-acts for the music.
@@nebularain3338 he was inspired by some musics that were banging back in the day*
@@link6000 No, he flat out copied a number of recognisable tracks.
@@nebularain3338yeah, sure 👍🏼
@@link6000 Does that include the end theme? For some reason that melody has stuck in my head for 30 years.
I don't need games to look so realistic. THIS is a video game.
The games nowadays are too complicated. And they require so much time and concentration that it takes the fun outta playing
I enjoy modern games but this is where it's at for me. To be honest, they can't be compared as they are such vastly different experiences. Modern games are open ended and immersive, whereas retro games tend to be played for maybe an hour tops.
To me, the 16-bit era is truly the golden age of gaming. Today the internet can tell us everything we need to know about games we want to buy. Back then knowledge was limited to magazines.
Back then games were games. It wasn't completely about cinematics & story.
And it was about skill. The streets of rage games arent easy.
@@Spontainiouz Actually a lot of them are way too simple. Challenging at first, sure. But once you've played one you've played most of them. Way, way too much handholding and ways of making the games so stupidly easy.
These older games used to have genuine challenge and required you to get better at the game, and when you did it was genuinely rewarding. Not saying there aren't challenging games today but a lot of the mainstream ones are made to be easily played
Yes this is way awesome
Streets of Rage 2 is an unforgettable classic.
the music has stayed with me since I first played this game as a little kid.
Me too. Years ago one of my roommates walked by as I was playing this game and they heard that Stage 1 music, stopped in his tracks and was like "Whoa, that music sounds awesome."
Same
It sounds like the group Enigma
Same, me and my step brother would always play this game and when we finished it the music was amazing. I have to say that Sega was better then Nintendo at making good pixelated music.
I could be 65 still playing this game (25 years from now). Even if they come out with a PS25
Damn this game had a great soundtrack
yes and it was one of the most fun beat em ups i ever played the first is good as well
Mafr0 Thank Yuzo Koshiro for that!
Had this on Game Gear portable awesome as a kid but no Max character
Damn straight and the gameplay is the best too
You can thank Yuzo Koshiro for that.
Throughout the 90s SEGA were responsible for some of the greatest original video game music. Amazing.
Def generally better than snes music. Snes music always seemed muffled to me
DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAA
@@s9drifto501 Was thinking more of Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon Saga but all righty
Arcade Hits !!!!
@@xerxes2044 it shows that you had never heard the soundtrack of the game Plok!
a lot of good people do come here ... we are from the time of a good life...
80's and 90's time do gather here..... we share the same passion...same childhood times playing the piece of art... 90's music RULES
90s are the best
Yusuf Katalony yeah I got my Sega Genesis collection for Xbox 360 still. I like this game it's brings back memories when it come to video games. us 80'$ and 90'$ kids grew up with some good decent games
Do you still own a Streets of Rage copy?
I know, I was just asking because I have one.
Yusuf Katalony if you have a PS3, you can also download STREETS OF RAGE 2, GOLDEN-AXE and FINAL FIGHT all of these titles have ONLINE COOP play!!! :) !!
Came here for a bit of nostalgia...miss the good old days!
314 stand up !
GRASS UP TAW! UUURAAWWW AHHHHHHKKKK lol
It doesn't matter if they make another x box or PS5 ,6 or 7. I'm ALWAYS gonna be a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Atari and Genesis fan. Nuff said
@@Spontainiouz and Jaguar
@@omalone1169 alien vs predator was awesome on the jag.
one of the best video game soundtracks of all time
man this takes me back when life was so much simpler going over to my friends house playing this all day and racing home before the streets light came on
Amen to that.
Back in the 90s my father usually went to the bank on Fridays. I accompanied him just to go play at an arcade that was in front of the bank, and i always looked for this game. What a great memories.
let’s all admit it, the soundtrack is already awesome before you even start the 1st Stage 🥊💥🎶
hell even the character select screen ost still slaps
The intro music sounded like an Enigma song!
Can't get enough of this game. You can play this over and over and over and over again!
Yes, even the first series, especially when reach last stage , awesome
This game gives me a great memories wiv my older brother me and him would play this all night till we finished it greatest game from the past 😀
Hell yeah me too me n my brother
The nostalgia hits me hard...
Probably one of the best video game soundtracks ever. The first level music is 🔥🔥🔥
Yuzo Koshiro without a doubt brought more memorable hits than any other composer of all time.
SoR series and Shinobi best soundtracks ever.
-Axel, what's your favorite Pokémon?!!
-"METAPOD!!!"
*One of the highlights of my childhood. So glad that even without IGN or the internet, I managed to still get the classics!*
This is an amazing game still by today's standards.
damn right!
Easy and repetitive. Yes, this game is perfect for the casual players of this generation.
@@logria10 Right? I don't get the hype of this game... I'd be bored with this within I'd say 30 minutes. It just doesn't have the replayability of most triple A titles coming out today.
@@MMMHOTCHEEZE Totally agree.
it usually comes down to personal preference
Best music, cool game. A true gem in Sega and video game history.
I came here 4 da music
intro music is sick..brings back memories
It's a rip off sometimes...but it's still fantastic.
Johnny Massacre
I love the music too. The intro music totally sounds like Sadeness Part 1 by Enigma lol
Johnny Massacre same XD
Johnny Massacre MAN that damn motorcycle level... Assholes just crash into u every 5 seconds, I couldn't wait 2 grab a pipe & tear shit up...... The frustration is coming bacc lol
This has got to be my favorite game on the Genesis for the soundtrack alone. I'll go back and play this game every couple of months, just because this game ALONE set the standards for what quality beat'em ups are missing today.
Great characters, great music, stages and just a damn good classic gaming experience.
Thanks for the vid!
NT35000 I agree with you on this subject
@Tom Caine Streets of Rage 2 is generally recognized as the best beat em up in that generation / and of all time according to a large amount of publications. The soundtrack alone is one of the highest regarded in video gaming, so no, Final Fight is not a good enough candidate for any kind of comparison, it's no where near as good...
@@BeerBaron23 music and Final Fight? just try your game boy Advance conversion, and what is this about Final Fight not being that good? thanks to final fight SEGA had been inspired to make Streets of Rage
that intro soundtrack is such gold
so many sega genesis games with god tier music
Brings back happy memories from 93 when I was 9. I was always Skate,my dad was Axel and my mum played as Blaze. We would play it most evenings for about a month until my dad got me onto Mortal Kombat 2. Great times.
A game where once you beat it...you play it again with a different character. Day after day...
And do it again, with a harder difficulty and less initial lifes
It got so many things right, it was wholesome despite all the violence, the best games out there has a wholesome side to it, you are clearly the good guys here.
One of the best beat em ups of all time, arcade includded.
Is the best
Naa, it`s a good game, but it don`t add anything to the genre. There are plenty beat em ups that do the same thing and better.
Final Fight arcade was better. More colours, smoother animation, better voice samples, a grittier feel, and MUCH faster gameplay with more enemies on screen. SoR2 was great but it was slow as shit in comparison.
You are fckng right bro!!!!
Patriarca you are gay
That soundtrack...best years of my life
My favourate game growing up.... play this for days on end
killerhawk2000 used to wake up early, before school, just to get an hour in before having to sit in class. Genesis was my first system, around 9/10 years old. This game came with .... must’ve played it 200 times.
I'm not exaggerating if I say this is the BEST BEAT' EM UP EVER!?
This is the best, for sure
You're not wrong I love The Streets of Rage games especially Sor 4 it is so Fun
Classic game i remember playing this with my brother when i was little.
Streets of rage 2 is a masterpiece
Best soundtracks ever. Have them on my Spotify and listen to them when I'm in the mood to reflect on my childhood with street of rage.
I loved this soundtrack as a kid.
same
Josh Pearson That soundtrack is ABSOLUTELY EPIC
Same.
I love how streets of rage 4 keeps true to its roots. Love that we get that Nostalgia all over again.
This game and the Sonic 1-3 series have the best soundtracks ever
best game music ever. end of story.
Agreed.
"My favourite -best- game music ever. end of story."
Fixed your comment. There is no best, becasue music is subjective.
I played this game all the time back in the day on my Genesis. I was 13 when this game came out, the memories this game brings back.
The calculated punching is the key to this game, as demonstrated. Figured this out at a kid, but it IS the way to dominate this game. SoR is the best beat em up of all time.
46:20 gives me chills when the music starts before you walk into the stage. One of the best soundtracks of all time no questions asked.
Epic game.. I remember playing this for the first time at my friend's house, I must've been no more than 7 or 8; was ABSOLUTELY mesmerized. Still a GREAT game
31:23 the best music in the game.
whwhwhhahahahhaah for my 41.46 and 49.44 lmao ;)
Bro, have you even HEARD Stage 3’s music? Stage 5’s is good, but 3’s is EAR CANDY.
I love Streets Of Rage 2, it was my all-time favorite video game.
Yes
Yes! Along with golden axe and double dragon.
I also loved pit fighter, teenage mutant ninja turtles, NBA jam, EA hockey, moonwalker, and final fight.
Best games ever immho.
Still a brilliant game to play I'm in my 40s and love the old retro games there more fun ❤
The music is early 90s, the fashion and style totally 80s. Very a e s t h e t i c c
The game's soundtrack is so good. Yuzo Koshiro is so talented.
He ripped off a lot of Eurodance numbers for these games.
@@nebularain3338 so. We wouldn't know those songs if it wasn't for this soundtrack.
The soundrack and gameplay is so perfect♡
Great game, marvelous music. Yeah... i miss 90's because of one reason - quality games.
Games still haven't lost their integrity since the 90s.
Kshahdoo and way better music in the 90s too
Stop being blinded by nostalgia. Just as many shitty games back then as there are now, and vice-versa with good ones.
That's kinna subjective bro. There are amazing games made today, and trust me - there were LOTS of shitty games made in the 90s. The quality of the output is in no way related to the era in which they were made.

I used to finish this game daily with my friends in the '90s Childhood days ❤
I remember my cousin, Reggie and I beat this game...he and I beat a lot of games together..good memories...we still talk about it every now and then....lol
The mook chivalry is strong with this game.
Also by stage 3 they got lazy with the names guys are named "Z"
This dude did not discriminate when it came to employees
dominatrixs, kickboxers, ninjas, biker thugs, wrestlers, fat guys, samurais, the rocketeer guys cos-playing as blanka, the Ultimate Warrior. HE REALLY WANTED YOU DEAD
LAST LEVEL MUSIC IS AMAZING......did bear have bear jr. when he was 9 cause they look the same age.
Y.Signal brought me here lol
Kira Lawlet - LOLOL. He wanted you dead as shit. You forgot to mention that the guy got the best technology just to kill you because there are robots too. And he got the best in biological weapons because in the theme Park in stage 3 there is a fucking monster too. Indeed they got lazy with names. When they were in development and designing of the game and got to the last level they ran out of names and there was no choice to name the last guy Mr X. Oh, and one last thing...... Ultimate Warrior brought me here. LOL.
@@Ocelot04 He was named Mr. X in the first game tho...
They really gave up naming that man Barbon!
My first ever Sega Genesis came with this game as a bonus package. It was simply amazing.
Most badass game ever made. More than Final Fight imo
still prefer Final Fight
Final fight is more linear and repetitive. The moves are a lot more basic, just mash a button
well we can honestly say the same thing about that game
Streets of Rage 2 has a much more complex move set. you can do Combinations and all sorts of moves to keep interest. Final fight is much more basic gameplay.
I prefer Final Fight because of the characters and I always thought the combat was much more refined and satisfying, especially in FF3, where you could do combos, specials and stuff.
My dad and I have this game on the console still, it's always fun playing together! I have gotten pretty good at it lately. :) I always play as Blaze ( for obvious reasons ). I love being nostalgic 💖😊
I just finished the game on my phone and omg it brought back memories when I use to play this after school. To me this game had the best soundtrack and sound effects. So happy I'm able to play this again. It's definitely one of my favorite old school games.
First off; the game is totally awesome.....from the gameplay, the characters, and the music and lastly the multi-hit combo of axel’s was so dope and dangerous 💪🏽💯
Yes, although axel is really bad on first series, next part, he s rocks
Omg jet was the ultimate pest! This game brings back unlimited amounts of nostalgia
What I liked most about this game growing up was that it captured the essence of street fighting very well. Growing up in a rough neighborhood, you could always get attacked by a group at anytime and anything could be used as a weapon.
A friend of mine introduced me to this wonderful game, may he rest in peace.
Fantastic game! Stage 7 music was always my favourite but the whole soundtrack is mint!
Back to the industry 👍
Amazing game. The best in the series imo. Made you feel like you really are on your ass kicking way to taking down a ruthless crime lord. Somehow the music, gameplay and story never gets old.
When Axl does his uppercut
"Get Some Paw"
Love it!
Oh man that sound when you hit someone with a pipe is so satisfying. I played this game so much when I was a kid.
I've just discovered this game. What an incredible soundtrack
I used to play this so much, I loved the soundtrack.
This game had the best soundtracks ever in a fighting game.
One of my earliest gaming memorys, didnt even know this was known for beeing a "gem". That game was a pure blaze, the sounds were so special.
no future game will ever reach the feeling of an old good childhood game.
Unbelievable memories, amazing soundtrack and gameplay
Best music of any video game of the 90s, by far. My jawn right here.
33 today. Played this so many times. The soundtrack is amazing !
I WANT MY 90s CHILDHOOD BACK!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
This video brings back so many memory.
I remember playing it in my friend house. One time he shares cheat code for unlocking Shiva. Playing as Shiva is the most fun. He is faster than Axel.
I have to say Axel is my favorite character in streets of rage. 😊
Top of the cream Sega Genesis right here. Both the music and gameplay were amazing! Childhood coming back, great memories!
Love this game!! I was so amazed b the music that was pumpin from the Sega Genesis!! Pretty impressive for an older game.
The music in this game man, such a masterpiece
anyone else came here and play the entire video as background for ambiance just to embrace the retro vibe of 90s
The whole ass soundtrack to this game gives me such a rush of nostalgia, I wish iwas a kid again 😢
WOW! lol Who did the music for these games? The jazz track for the bar level is AWESOME.
+TheQuantum09 Yuzo Koshiro, you'd be surprised how good he is considering he does old video games
listen "rushing beat shura" at snes
much more complex songs
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
@@SJ-zn7xo What's that supposed to mean? Are you suggesting that game music is somehow not "real" music? Or that his status as a musician is somehow tainted because he does games?
Either way, Koshiro is good, but he's not original. Many late 80s and early 90s Eurodance numbers were basically ripped off for these games. Listen to "Under Logic" from Stage 4 of this game, then listen to "Move any Mountain" By The Shamen.
When I first buy this game in the 90s I was thrilled buy the sound music ....was good back then
Seeing every comment say something about the music is awesome go straight is one of my favorite video game songs
Broke out my old Sega from back in the day
I’m 41 and my son just turned 6
Me and him have been rocking out to Streets of Rage 2
SOR2 was by far the best of the trilogy had better graphics and controls than SOR1 and almost as good controls and graphics as SOR3, which was still not nearly as fun and had an awful soundtrack compared to SOR2. IMO having a good soundtrack makes a world of difference in how fun the game is.
Give sor3 another listen. A lot better than you remember. Keep in mind its a darker game
5 years later and you are still wrong about 3s soundtrack. Also the gameplay was 10 times better I don’t get bored like I do with 2
@@robertbektas1810 yeah i dont get where they get "awful" from. I listened to a bunch recently after not having played it in 20 years. A lot of good stuff there. I like how the boss theme is darker. Its a good soundtrack. Maybe sor2 is better. But sor3 is def not "awful"
Sor3 has way better gameplay. The soundtrack is underated too
@@robertbektas1810 sor3s Soundtrack is awful and distracting

+Terrell Lane ME TOO!
CLASSIC!!! Spent a sleepless night playing this!!!!!
(.........AAAAAAAXxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX..)
I had two friends, one with Final Fight and the other with Streets of Rage. I enjoyed playing both games, but I kept wanting to spend the night over my friend Jacobs to play SoR more than FF with my friend Greg. Greg would get so mad and he would always want to play SoR whenever we were over Jacobs but try not to act like it was his idea lol. Regardless of what other say who took what from what at the end of the day Streets of Rage was better than Final Fight.
I was 10 when this game was released. First game I ever beat. Classic

ahh great times.Music of this game seemed to amaze me when I was a child and still then
What a golden era.
