  • After dropping my beloved Shoei RF-1400, I had to find a new helmet. Enter the “Big Bull by Dave Designs” from Temu. I saw this helmet and couldn’t help but laugh at its ridiculousness. With no intention of actually using it, I bought it purely for the fun of it.
    In this video, I share my experience with this $70 Temu helmet and give some insight into what I saw with it, which was somewhat what I expected when I did my Ruroc cutting-in-half videos. If you enjoyed that series, you’ll find this one interesting too.
    Ultimately, this whole video is about my unwavering love for the Shoei RF-1400. Despite the hilarious detour with the Temu helmet, my recommendation remains the same: invest in a Shoei RF-1400. It’s worth every penny.

    Great video! I like your explanations of the how and why behind your decision on your helmets. I personally like ratchet closures myself, but I still own a helmet with D-rings and you’re right it’s not that big of a deal using them. I do appreciate the your thoughts about white vs black helmets! I’ve often wondered if there was a noticeable difference in temperature, now I know! As always great content and more importantly trustworthy content!

    Timely video... Both my son and I are in need of new helmets. My son needs a new one as his was crushed by a truck tire (no his head was not in it. Helmet was behind the truck on the ground out of the sun and got forgotten about) mine needs replacing due to age (5 years old and I noticed that it is starting to break down now due to use and age). So we are considering the Simpson Mod Bandit helmets.... But they are very $$$$$$ in Canada. Mind you so are the Shoei RF1400 helmets which is also a helmet I what to try on for fit comfort.
    What's your thoughts on modular helmets? was that something you considered?
    Color. You are correct, color of a premium Full Face helmet using premium materials will have little to no effect on rider comfort due to heat. Where the different will be felt is the external surface of the helmet to tough on a hot day!
    but when you are actually riding what you head feels in the helmet will not be much of a noticeable difference.

      In terms of a modular, it sounds nice but with all of the wiring of microphones for the Cardo and the mic for my audio recorder it just seems too much to bother with to get that all figured out.

    You touched on riding in the heat just a little, do you have any videos in the works on how you dress for the heat. I am in Atlanta, and it is brutal right now, but I am still riding.......

    The helmet color IMO in terms of effect on temperature is negligible. The main topic I've read about addressing helmet color is visibility. The European safety surveys and crash statistics used to say that white helmets were way more visible and were/are/maybe a factor in accident avoidance. Aside from this, it comes down to style and individual preference. Drivers in the U.S. don't watch for motorcycles as it is. Ride safe Dan. That TEMU helmet is hilarious!!!!

      I recently had a closed head injury fully geared up and in a Shoei at 35 - 40 mph on a sumo. Landed on the right top/front of my helmet on pavement three months ago, still have peripheral vertigo and short term memory issues. Go figure.

    I am a huge Shoei fan. I love my Neotech II. I don't disagree with your choice of RF1400 but did you consider Arai? I believe they are the pinnacle of safety. That said I also think they are slightly better than Shoei in safety. I don't have an Arai because I enjoy the convenience of a modular helmet. I am aware I give up some safety but I am good with the compromise. Keep up the great work and excellent content. Thank you 😂

      I looked at everything including Aria but I just really fell back to the RF-1400 because it was super comfortable and I totally trust it in terms of safety. In terms of a modular, it sounds nice but with all of the wiring of microphones for the Cardo and the mic for my audio recorder it just seems too much to bother with to get that all figured out. I like the idea of this video but instead of going after Temu, please look at house brand helmets. Comoto has, Bilt and Sedici Helmets. Rocky Mountain ATV has the MSR helmets. A few weeks ago an influencer put out a video where he was saying a Sedici was just as good as a Shoei. I was skeptical because he got one for free and was paid for the video. I know I owned Bilt Helmets and they fall apart within two years but I wonder if their foam is an issue also. The MSR helmet looks like a good budget helmet that is comparable to a Bell Mx9 but since most influencers were just paid to do a first look and not a review I'm skeptical of the quality.

    • @GearsGadgets
      @GearsGadgets  7 месяцев назад +1

      I might start diving into some other helmets too. I did cut a Sedici in half a while ago and it was fine. Cheap but fine-ish for the price point. I have really learned with helmets, you get what you pay for. The exception comes with Ruroc where I think you get the safety and maybe some concessions with fit, finish, and support to pay a brand that puts a little too much value (Maybe $100ish per helmet) on their name and design aesthetic.

      I agree to a point. Once you get above a certain price level helmet, the law of diminishing returns comes into play. From a protection standpoint, I don't feel the 1000÷ helmets give you that much more than an 800 helmet.

      Thanks, I do not go the chin mount route because they are 3D printed. I am not anti-3d Print (own a printer myself) but I do know the limitations and my concern is that I ride around in HIGH heat/sun here in Phoenix. Some concerns for heat stress, weakening, and breakage leading to the loss of a $400 GoPro and possibly even more valuable footage. There is a method to my madness lol.
